This is the third most important church, after the cathedral of San Panfilo and the complex of the Santissima Annunziata. It was built around 1076 over the ruins of a Roman temple dedicated to Jupiter. The church assumed prestige in the fourteenth century, during the government of the Anjou, and even more so when Sulmona had prestige with the Aragonese domination of the Kingdom of Naples. The large and rectangular Romanesque-Gothic façade has a Gothic-style portal, surmounted by a very large rose window. The interior has a longitudinal plan with a Latin cross plan and three naves. However, due to an exponential rise in population during the Swabian rule in the 13th century, expansion of the city center became imperative. Consequently, a secondary wall was constructed to contain the burgeoning residential area. Museo Confetti Pelino, located just outside Sulmona, is a celebration of the history and production of the town's famous confetti. It is home to the oldest confetti company in Sulmona. Visitors can tour the facility and explore its museum, which offers insight into how the Pelino company started. The large retail store on-site provides various options for purchasing confetti, making it a great place to find unique gifts.
Great way to spend 45 minutes. Don't miss the short film on the top floor. It's better than our last visit in 2007. And it's free!
Keith Brown — Google review
Very informative on how Pelino company started. Free to get in. Gift shop to buy your confetti.
Silvana Villella — Google review
We toured this facility and we enjoyed it. No free samples though, thus 4 stars. We bought some candy and yes it was delish. They have a large retail store with all kinds of options. Great for gifts. Easy free parking. Free tour at all hours just let receptionist know what language you need the film in.
Alba Grillo — Google review
It's a quick, free, visit. You see some old devices for making the candy, some pictures of celebrities, lots of certificates of sorts. It's kind of neat, and definitely part of the history of the town, but nothing too exciting. The selection of confetti felt like less than from the shops in the pedestrian zone, but it was neat seeing some of the custom orders. Basically, moderately interesting, but I wouldn't pay, or wait, to see it.

The Locanda Medievale restaurant boasts an excellent position, conveniently situated near the main square. While the cuisine may be considered average, patrons can expect exceptional service from attentive and friendly waitstaff. The establishment is highly regarded for its impeccable location and pleasant dining experience.
We came on a Saturday evening at 1845 hrs in late March. No reservation is needed. This place opens earlier than others nearby. Menu has English subtitles. One of the two servers spoke English. We felt the food was of very high quality, with generous portion size. We enjoyed the bean soup, the Caprese salad, a pasta dish, and the chicken dish. Everything was delicious and well presented. We chose the house wine at 4 euros per glass and it was quite nice. Beautiful music was playing, which complimented the historic and interesting decor. I am sure we will be back this week!

Really nice restaurant on one of the main squares. They accommodated us even tho they were almost closing, so we really appreciated it. The dishes were tasty and served in good portions, we also loved the medieval decorations. The only thing I would say is that I was expecting to find more traditional dishes on the menu, while I had the impression that they had the classic traditional dishes that you can find all around Italy.

It’s hard to get a bad meal in Italy… unless you eat at a bar. And Locanda Medievale is A BAR. We were here and nothing else was open/avail on a Sunday evening, so we made do. Plan better - make an rsvp elsewhere. Otherwise the wine, location and hospitality were great, but the food was below average. Bread was not good, I had the white pork and it was tough and dry. The house wine was good and a bargain. The tiramisu was good.

Buonvento, a restaurant in Sulmona, Italy, offers truly exceptional meals that leave a lasting impression. With its delightful ambiance and antique vibes, this gem of a place is worth revisiting. The chitarra al ragu stands out as an exquisite dish, while the perfectly cooked arrosticini and heavenly polpette add to the culinary experience. Additionally, Buonvento takes pride in serving organic local wines that complement the delectable cuisine.
Great food, specially the agnello porchettato. And also, here is the the best tiramisu in Italy, creamy, delicate and not so sweet. We will highly recommended this restaurant.

Our daughter, who lives in the area, told us more than once that the food at the Buonvento Restaurant was excellent. During our recent visit to Italy, she brought us to decide for ourselves. My daughter was right. The food at Buonvento is beyond excellent. The various antipastos were supremely delicious. The pasta was a "wow!!" experience. The third course was rich with flavor. The whole meal was enriched with a local, organic wine that was unforgettable. Furthermore, the team manning the restaurant was warm and welcoming. In my view, the visit to Buonvento was a Michelin-level experience. If you are in the area, make sure you visit Buonvento. It will be a highlight of your visit to Sulmona and to Italy.

Update: I returned this past Friday night in early September 2021 and I have to say the menu just wasn’t the same. We had the same waiter Edmund and he was again, excellent! The hit of my last visit - pasta w cream sauce - was not available and the other pasta dishes paired in comparison. We did try the local fried cheese balls in Ragu and they were very tasty. It’s still a nice place, but I was a bit disappointed without that creamy past dish that brought me back. ——————— Original review June 2021 If you’re in Sulmona - you want to eat here!! A very pleasant atmosphere on a side street with a view of a 14th century church and filled with locals - locals so friendly, they insisted that we sample their wine! The waiter spoke fluent English and made fantastic recommendations for sampling a few dishes and sharing others, so as to not just run up our bill, but allow us to try the local specialties. The pasta with cream and sausage was the highlight dish! A wonderful meal and true taste of L’aquila region!

Great restaurant in Sulmona. Both food and service were very good. We ordered mostly whatever counts as local dishes. Cacio e Uva is a must, the chitara primi is delicious - ask for the spicy oil on the side and mix it into it for additional pleasure. They also had a delicious pasta with ragu and red wine which was very unique and delicious for me. They also have a wide and quality selection of wines. The place itself looka very welcoming.
