Bridge
Sights & Landmarks
Devil's Bridge, also known as Ponte del Diavolo, is a stunning fifteenth-century bridge that spans a shallow gorge. The bridge offers breathtaking views of the picturesque town perched on stone cliffs, with its array of church towers and the winding river Natisone below. Visitors can explore the charming streets of the town center, visit the Celtic Hypogeum, and admire the Cathedral and churches. The surrounding landscapes are enchanting, making it an ideal destination for leisurely walks.
The Devil's bridge with it's story and legend is a wonderful place to visit in every season. The views from the bridge of Cividale and the Natisone river are always a balm for the soul.

A very beautiful bridge. The mind gets excited to see the water from above.
Sharif Jahan — Google review
Spectacular bridge in the centre of Cividale. During the summer, it's getting dry and there is not a lot of water flowing under the bridge.
Bogdan Tasnadi — Google review
Cividale del Friuli, which has been given UNESCO World Heritage Site status. The bridge is very picturesque, and it’s a great place to see the beautiful waters of Fuime Natisone flowing below. According to legend, the bridge got its name from the belief that the Devil built it in just one night in exchange for the soul of a citizen from the city. Julius Caesar founded the city around 50 BC, and when visiting, one can truly feel and see history firsthand.

I loved this place. For me it was the first sight of the old town of Cividale del Friuli. When you look down to the rover you see a calm valley with tropical plants growing on the sides of the canyon. You see all the towers of the churches. Really beautiful

Sights & Landmarks
Santuario di Castelmonte is a medieval sanctuary and pilgrimage church located in Italy. It features a statue of the Black Madonna and Child from the 1470s, which is highly revered. Visitors are expected to dress appropriately and show respect while exploring the site. The atmosphere is peaceful with minimal noise to allow for appreciation of the views. A must-see attraction at this shrine is the basement where historic records and accounts of miracles are preserved.
Second pilgrimage here after more than a decade. A beautiful Sunday and I prayed sincerely. I had a divine feeling which is very difficult for me to express.

Archaeological museum
Museums
Cividale del Friuli, situated on the banks of the Natisone river, seamlessly blends the charm of a quaint village with the vibrancy of an urban center. This culturally rich town boasts an Orange Flag distinction and remains firmly rooted in its history and traditions. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it proudly showcases several remarkable landmarks, including the Monastery of S. Maria in Valle, the Tempietto (a small temple), and various churches dedicated to St.
Excellent museum. Surprising to find exhibits of such high quality and density in such a small town, and with excellent English translations. You get a very clear and comprehensive idea of who the Lombards were as people, right down to a belt buckle with its wearer's name embossed on it, and a pair of keys. Wonderful
Toby Ashworth — Google review
Under renovation. Only the second floor is open and many display cases are without lighting. Looks pretty shabby. In and out in 20 minutes. Not worth the 6 euros. Only person there.
Brian Thome — Google review
Very interesting museum. Cividale has a lot of stories to tell. The museum is focused in particular on the Longobardi Kingdom that had in Cividale a very important place. Every first weekend of the month you can access the museum for free and there are also events of every kind (music, conferences and so on). The location is wonderful in the main center of the town. Free parking on the other side of the Natisone river .... just cross the Devil's bridge!
Alex Gasp — Google review
A fantastic collection of very important early mediaeval finds from the Langobard period. Well worth travelling to pay a visit. It is one of a number of museums in Northern Italy which devotes a large amount (in this case, all) of its space to the material culture of the early mediaeval period, something which is, for some reason (possibly a hangover from the days when pride in germanic heritage was frowned upon) is very sadly lacking in Britain. There are plans to create a museum dedicated to the Anglo-Saxon period in Winchester. If it ever comes to fruition, I hope that it will look to museums like Cividale for inspiration and combine quality and quantity, rather than confirming with modern museum trends in the UK which seem to favour style over substance.

The funerary objects of a little warrior (4 years old) are touching, while those of a knight buried with his horse are curious (both displayed in a large shrine). The gold jewelery is dazzling, the necklaces from 1500 years ago are eye-catching and colourful. Definitely worth visiting (with a complete ticket for the Temple and the Christian Museum). I have dined at the Orsone on two occasions and each time has been unforgettable. The menus are innovative, imaginative, and delectable. My partner savored the most incredible dessert he has ever tasted, a pea-centered confection. I highly recommend this establishment for those seeking an extraordinary fine dining experience where talented chefs skillfully combine unexpected ingredients to surprise and delight diners. The service is exceptional, and considering the quality of the food, the prices are quite reasonable.
We held our youngest son's wedding reception at Orsone in Sept 23. We had guests from all over the world, and everyone agreed that the location, the food and the service were outstanding! The reception started at 13.00 with an outdoor aperitivo and continued until past midnight. The chef alternated the courses served at the table with small plates that were carried on trays to people who were outside dancing or chatting. The chef ( who could be watched while he cooked )also provided an excellent menu for our guests with food intolerances. The Orsone team was plentiful and best of all, attentive and discreet. Thank you so much! The Beltramini Family

Very welcoming place. Everything on the same floor, zero architectural barriers. Varied menu. I do not agree on the contaminations (cheese burger with Montasio cheese for example), but the quality of the meat and the preparation in Josper barbecue are excellent. Excellent beers, too and a good selection of wines. The American aperitif is at the top. Desserts also not bad. Initially they brought Heinz sauces in glass jars, now they have opted for a cheaper mix of the house that I disapprove and have slightly adjusted up prices. Open kitchen very clean and tidy. Young, friendly staff, maybe a bit factitious. They care about children even if it is not really a place for them at least that you do not stay out in the good season. I will definitely come back. Posto molto accogliente. Tutto al piano, zero barriere architettoniche. Menu vario. Cucina a vista pulitissima e ordinatissima. Personale giovane, amichevole forse un po' affettato. Occhio di riguardo ai bimbi anche se non è propriamente un posto per loro almeno che non si stia fuori con la bella stagione. Tornerò sicuramente.

Food and wine quite always very good, and the atmosphere too.. So sorry about Joe's decision of mixing up the the two parts of the restaurant: the more expensive and posh one focused on fancy plates, and the cheaper one serving more burgers and fries. But I think it's still very enjoyable.

We ate at the Orsone twice and both times it has been memorable! The menus are creative, imaginative and delicious! My husband ate ‘the best dessert he has ever had’ which was a pea-based dessert. Highly recommended if you fancy some real fine dining experience and trust the chefs to put together a bold menu combining unexpected ingredients and surprise you with the outcome. Service is outstanding and price is really good value for the quality of food. Wine selection is also varied and offers plenty of international options alongside local wines. We will be back!!

Super tasty Italian food! One of the best restaurants I have been in Italy. The atmosphere is very cosy, specially in their little yard. And the food is top! Really tasty and with a great variety of wines to try. The only little bad thing is that not all the waitresses speak english, although that makes it feel more original.

We found this restaurant by searching the best of Cividale on the internet. On a Saturday 7 pm we arrived without reservation and were very happy to get a spot in the cozy patio! The service was fantastic (one waitress even spoke German and explained the entire menu to us) and the food was delicious. Prosciutto crudo great as expected, the cheese platter was VERY hefty (only for the cheese lovers), Zucchini Spaghetti Carbonara was awesome but also very hearty and salty. My pasta Bolognese with truffles also was great. We had yet another great meal with a ham wrapped steak and wine sauce; can't recall the name though. Overall the meals were heftier than expected...so in the end we ordered a bit too much. But we took our time and just calmly went along with one or the other glass of wine. All of the served wines (Friulano, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon barrique) were good. Long story short: would definitely recommend and come again :)

After more than two weeks of traveling during which we ate at a Top 50 Restaurant and a Michelin Star restaurant, we probably talk about this meal more than any other we had on our trip. Food is delicious and beautifully simple, especially paired with wines from the Friuli region. The ravioli with raisins, spinach, and smoked ricotta was unbelievably good.

Fantastic food. A must-go if you’re in cividale del friuli. Some of the best pasta you will have (maccheroncini with lemon cream sauce and pink peppercorns was my favorite, and the dumplings with spinach, raisins, smoked ricotta and pine nuts were also really amazing). We’ve travelled to Italy 5 times in the past year (and mostly for food, and in regions known for their food) and these were definitely some of our favourite pastas. And for 7-8€ per dish. Other dishes were good but not outstanding.

Excellent food & service. Very nice setup, both inside & outside. Atmosphere was great and we could enjoy a quiet table in a smaller room (still well-decorated). Starting with the cheese & prosciutto platter, combined with the wine, followed by wild boar main courses. To finish the feast, home made gelato fior di latte covered by berry fruits with cappuccino. The worst restaurant we have ever visited! We paid too much money for nothing! Food was teribble and it was microwaved. Potatoes cold and not salty at all, the only good thing was the vine, which they served it to us for 20€ and we found it the next day in Eurospar for 5€! The lady that served us was terible, she was faking being kind... They fooled us with the water with the tomato which we paid for 3 euros for tap water. Such a charming restaurant that surprised us with delicious lunch! It was raining so we couldn’t take advantage of the outdoor terrace, but inside was warm and inviting, and luxuriously rustic. I ordered a delicious pink gnocchi which I forgot to photograph, but the highlight was the most incredible ice cream we’ve ever tried. It’s pushed around on a massive cart towards the end of your meal, and you have no choice but to indulge. The mixed fruit compote went perfectly together. I almost want to see the ice cream tasted like sweetened burrata gelato somehow. Insanely good!

Al Campanile is a traditional Osteria that offers incredible, authentic dishes not commonly found elsewhere. Situated near the Campanile, the restaurant provides outdoor seating bathed in sunlight. The food is top-notch and the service is exceptional, with staff fluent in three languages - Italian, German, and English. One highly recommended dish is the sausage cooked in onion and vinegar, which boasts a unique and delightful flavor.
To all the people not understanding that this is a traditional Osteria and not a fancy resuturant, well... it's your fault! Excellent seafood in heart of Civadale. Bit more expensive but you pay for the quality. Outstanding local wine list.

Extraordinary meal. We tried the gigantic 7 course meal and were amazed at the quality of each of the dishes. Avoid the great bread if you want to make it to the end 😁
