Judiaria de Castelo de Vide, also known as the Jewish Quarter of Castelo de Vide, is a historic neighborhood that dates back to the 15th century. During this time, many Jews sought refuge in Portugal from persecution in Spain. The quarter features houses with two doors made of granite, connecting the lower floor (often used for commercial purposes) to the upper living quarters.

Castle
The Castle of Castelo de Vide is a must-visit in the Alto Alentejo region, near the Spanish border. It offers stunning views over the border and was where a king sealed his marriage to Queen Isabel of Aragon. The castle allows visitors to climb up to the tower and walk over its roofs for beautiful village and landscape views. The museum inside showcases military history, but unfortunately, information is only available in Portuguese.
Truly captivating little hilltown complete with castle, fountains and old Jewish Quarter. Lots of well-marked walks in and around town. Maps (rather poor) available at the tourist office next to Matriz Santa Maria da Devesa Church.
Danny M — Google review
The castle is really worthwhile visiting. You even can go up to the tower and walk over the roofs of the castle and have a beautiful view of the village and the surroundings. The museum has a military historical exhibition but unfortunately the information is only in Portuguese. It would be a good idea to hand out leaflets with other languages to explain what is written in the various showcases.

Amazing! Make sure that you visit the Jewish synagogue there and the museum.
Yehuda Morag — Google review
Nice castle. Sadly we arrived at their lunch break so the tower was closed.

A lovely little town full of interesting history. The Jewish museum was a surprise, nicely done. The pointy eared dog is certainly a lively character, perfectly harmless of course.
Saz Dosanjh — Google review
Sadly, as of October 2020, the castle is closed for renovation. Some of it can be seen from the outside. You can walk in the narrow cobblestone streets within the walls and marvel at the views (reaching up to Marvão, a nearby wonder) and the tiny houses. In spite of the maintenance work going on the castle, the village is still worthy of the visit.
Jorge Gamito — Google review
Castel do vide is a nice town in Portugal with a butiful castle in top of a hill and charming medieval village. A museum in the synagogue tells the story of an interesting Jewish community that lives in the past in the town.
Dr. Cobi Ivghi — Google review
Great views from the castle. The maintenance could be better.
Francisco Almeida — Google review
The castle is a ruin under Restauration. To access the tower you must be brave and walk over the roof with no security rail. Not for those afraid of heights
Mariana Noronha — Google review
I visited the Castleo de Vide while I was staying 3 nights in Castelo de Vide in November, 2017. The castle is located atop a very steep hill and the walk up on the cobblestone walk is difficult and for me, killed my knees. It's free to walk around and there also is an excellent small museum as you come into the courtyard which is exhibits of the Neolithic megaliths in the area, artifacts found in the area. Very interesting, however, all the information is in Portuguese no English.

Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Fonte would be part of the Judiaria, the Jewish quarter of Castelo de Vide, one of the most important and well-preserved examples of the Jewish presence in Portugal, dating back to the 13th century. The Fonte da Vila was built in the 16th century, during the reign of King João III, probably altered and remodelled or even finished in later years. The structure constituted the point of radial urban development that is present in the five surrounding streets, on a path that linked the Castle to Fonte da Vila, which has been propagated over time. The fountain has a rectangular shape with a pyramidal cover, supported by six marble columns, with four spouts in the centre. In the centre are represented the arms of the county and those of Portugal. Surrounding and delimiting the Fonte da Vila is a wall, which also includes a drinking fountain.

Casa da Inquisição is a surprisingly spacious museum that offers free entry and is definitely worth a visit. It serves as a poignant reminder of the cruelty humans are capable of. The well-executed displays, complete with English translations and subtitles for films, create a moving experience for visitors. The lifelike exhibits contribute to the museum's impactful presentation.
Here you can enter for free, and you can download a virtual reality app, that works as an “audio” visual guide of the museum. It has a detailed story and also descriptions in Portuguese and English. No idea on how many languages are on the audio guide but pt for sure

(Translated by Google) This was an afternoon of culture and in Castelo de Vide a pioneering museum in Portugal was created - the Casa da Inquisição - which shows the history and process of the Inquisition, from its creation to its condemnation at the stake in the acts of faith. Let us frame the history of this repressive apparatus that was the Inquisition. The Portuguese Inquisition was created in 1536 at the request of King John III to Pope Paul III. For 300 years, it had a profound impact on society through its Court of the Holy Office. This institution questioned the population about their deviations from the Catholic faith and identified all those who professed beliefs different from Christian teachings and arrested, persecuted, judged, punished, tortured and killed thousands of people and it is important to highlight that around 203 Castelo-Videnses were target of inquisitorial proceedings for alleged judicializing practices. A visit not to be missed! A Confraria is a Portuguese restaurant that offers an assortment of regional dishes and wines. The waitstaff is attentive and knowledgeable, ensuring that every diner enjoys their meal. There's also a small sampling option available, perfect for those who want to try out more than two dishes without committing to full meals. Prices are reasonable, making it a great place to enjoy Portuguese cuisine without breaking the bank.
Not many words in English, but a desire to make it work despite our own shortcomings in other languages. Super sweet proprietor, very tasty pork cheeks etc. We got a taster plate with different cakes for dessert. Will visit again.

We were on our way to our next stop and we read that along the way, A Confraria was a good restaurant to check out located in Castelo de Vide. When we walked in at 1pm it was full we were advised that they can reserve for us at 2:30pm. My husband and I decided to walk around the town and kill time. It was worth the wait. The servers can barely speak English but thanks to google translate and of course - food is a universal language we got to order - Soup for starters, Beef cheeks and Rabbit with Rice. Food was very good. The service was a bit slow because the place was packed. Waiting for a 2:30 lunch was worth it. If you visit this area - check this place out - try to make reservations because the place is always full

The family that runs the restaurant has several decades of cuisine experience. The husband in the room and wife cooking deliver great and traditional taste. They are gate keepers of traditional flavours of the region, not only the raw material (great produce and local source meat). They have the traditional dishes and game options. You can ask for wine recommendations and be quite happy with it, a great mix of food and wine. Do feel free to ask help about the village and its history. He has been helping a lot of Americans searching for their family normally Jewish roots in Castelo de Vide, even helping them to enter the century old homes of their relatives by speaking to the current owners.
Joao Cabrita — Google review
Ah, you gotta love this place. The entrance is a bit hidden in a side street but you sure want to find it. The walls are covered with wine bottles and cartoons making fun of the names of Portuguese dishes. Very attentive young waiters will take your order and counsel you. And you will eat local delicacies. The kick? You can sample the dishes. It is possible to order four samples instead of two full meals to try out much more. And that you should, it is very much worth it Pro Tipp: choose only three sample dishes and let the fourth one be a sample plate of local cheeses and meats.

After several recommendations, The Avenger moved us to perhaps the best restaurant the three of us have been in 2023, after a first attempt to get a dinner at 8pm, they were booked out and we came home to later come back at 9am, since of course they wanted to receive the Best in the World and give him the best table. They received us in the waiting couch, where in a poetry motion they dictated the menu. Your God basically picked everyone's dishes, starters, soup, and dessert, since he wanted everything to be Perfect, what he called the Gift Of the Avenger! The sound of silence was amazing, the ventilation system superb, it didn't seem to be winter outside, and the smell of food, incredible, The GOAT felt home, in the Mount Olimp. He was so excited, with a baby's smile while listening to the history of the black Iberian pig, and his accurate way of eating acorn. Each dish came even better than the previous one, making Your God kaiting everything and everywhere, even his Reguengo was kissed by himself. The cherry on top, was when your Divorcee mentioned his former wife "she never cooked like this, we should teach every women and men how to have the basic cooking skills as they have in Confraria, Im eating in heaven, I'll move here and populate this place" I guess he can keep thinking of happy ways to die, and after this phenomenal meal and special attention, we can all die to keep your God shining like a diamond he is

I had dinner two nights in a row at Dom Pedro's restaurant in Castelo de Video in November, 2017 while on my bicycle tour of Portugal. Outstanding food and service. I had the pork medallions one night and pork loin another night both dishes are enough for two people as it came with french fries (almost filled the plate) and rice as well as bread. I also had the Marques de Borba wine each night with dinner and highly recommend that wine..outstanding. Highly recommend this restaurant!

One of the few options available if dining after 20:30 but be ready for a long wait to be seated and to get your food as the place is really busy and staff tend to be a bit overwhelmed. Food quality is average perhaps because we were one of the last parties to be served. Kids menu is a good deal though. In my opinion, there are better restaurants to enjoy when in the area.
