Xiamen

The small city of Xiamen is the perfect economical choice for anyone visiting China. Xiamen is surrounded by mountains and the sea, while the architecture is a combination of traditional Chinese buildings and western structures. Perhaps Xiamen is most famous for its hot springs, as there are more than 3000 of them, while visitors can also enjoy the area’s many amusement parks, such as Magic Island and Happy Valley.

Sights & Landmarks
Points of Interest & Landmarks
Gulangyu, also known as Gulang Island or Kulangsu, is a car-free islet off the coast of Xiamen in southeastern China. This UNESCO World Heritage Site boasts nearly one thousand historical buildings, including former European consulates and Chinese-inspired Art Deco mansions. The island's rich history dates back to the turn of the 20th century when it housed a thriving European community due to Xiamen's role as a gateway for traders and missionaries.
A former foreign enclave from 1840s until the 1930s, it is now both a residential suburb and a major tourist area. With its significant rich history, it was formally designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site 6 years ago. There are hundreds of the old colonial-era buildings nestled all over the island. Without motorised vehicles which are prohibited on the island and depends solely on your pair of legs, you need 2 days to fully explore the many mansions and villas opened to the public.

A well-developed tourist island which has well-preserved old houses. It also features a beach and different shots. Every major way is paved beautifully and you can tour the whole island inside an electric vehicle. Trees are all over which also provides shade and scenic beauty when strolling around. Several shops for different things can also be found if you're looking for souvenirs and gifts you could take with you.

Beautiful island with historic architecture. But overcommercialized and overcrowded

A UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. Beautiful Island. 8 minutes ferry ride off the coast of Xiamen. A day trip would not be able to cover and enjoy the beauty senic of the Island. Cars or bicycles are not allowed on the Island.. The only vehicles permitted are small electric buggies. Good to spend a night or two walking around the whole Island. A must visit place when you visit Xiamen.

Limited seat on Ferry and u might have to stand for 20mins. 日光岩 is the must-go item as you can see the whole beauty view of 鼓浪嶼

The ancient buildings are very attractive, and it feels like time has stopped here. But there are a lot of people, and there are some speculators who are cheating here. The rest is wonderful.

Been here many times alr . The place is very big . You can stay here for one whole day . For tourists , you may not be able to get tickets to the island as it is always very packed
Amanda — Google review
Great architecture and beautiful old lanes that wind throughout the island. Riguanyyan (sunlight rock) offers some fantastic views. The top can get really crowded. If there is time left, I would recommend that you visit Haitangtiangou. There are performances of the Nanyin (Chinese music) and a fun puppet show for kids. Wander off the beaten track and you will find some pleasant surprises.

Well... If you are visiting Xiamen and you don't take out a day for this island, then you have really missed out on something. It is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to. So it takes a ferry ride to get you there which can cost you up to RMB50 to RMB 308 depending upon the kind of ferry you take there are several options like those which take you around the island are more expensive. We went at around 12 pm and bought 50rmb tickets for 130 pm ferry... There are ferries every 20min so don't worry.. some people say that you need to book the tickets in advance but I don't think that is a problem or maybe we were very lucky...we went on a Saturday when many people are there and still got the tickets over the counter. After reaching the island, you should definitely take the electric cart for RMB 50 which will take you around the island and drop you to different parts and also pick you up again and drop you back to the exit. Keep your tickets safe to show every time you want to take the cart. The island is so big that even one day is not enough to see it all... We saw the museum which had piano museum and 12 caves in it. And also there is motor boat rides in the beach, which I think was very expensive (RMB150 for Scooter and RMB 300 for the boat) only thing I feel is that asking for tickets everywhere is very expensive. One tickets to island and one to the cart is what we should be charged. The place is full of greenry and is so beautiful.. we enjoyed a lot and luckily it rained the day we went so it was not too hot. Piano museum is also worth a visit. Later on we went to the under water fish aquarium which has a lot of different kinds of fish and is a place you can spend some of your time. But again you have to spend RMB 90 for the ticket. There are a lot of souvenir shops, some restaurant and also a hotel within this island. But yes everything is expensive and food.is not vegetarian friendly so pack something for yourself and take with you.

A lovely tourist spot with breathtaking view and lots of local foods. I suggest to buy the ferry ticket in advance as there are many visitors even on normal days. Hope to be back again soon.

Picturesque island close to Xiamen in South China. Unfortunately has become quite touristic (mostly Chinese, but also foreigners). The streets out of the shore are calmer, but still full of shops and commerce. Nice views and characteristic architecture of European inspiration.

The campus is known for its picturesque location between the sea and the Five Old Men mountains, making it one of the most beautiful campuses in China. The modern infrastructure sprawls over an expansive area at the foot of Wulao Feng hill and near Xiamen bay.
No doubt one of the most beautiful universities! Lots of food options (for tourists?) I know I won’t able to afford to dine in the restaurants when I was in college.

Started from 2018 Oct, it's mandatory to make reservation through the Uni Wechat account 'U厦大' in order to visit the university. It's said that the influx of tourists has seriously interfered the school order and teaching. Visiting slot as below: 1. Mon-Fri: 12-2pm (1000 reservations) 2. Weekend & school holiday: Available whole day (5000 reservations) 3. National holidays: Available whole day (10k reservations) Reservation can be made 3 days in advance. For the moment, there is no other way to visit the uni without reservation by yourself, travel agencies face difficulties to get the seats too. DON'T BELIEVE on someone claimed that they have SCALPER TICKET which can bring you in (you might asked to pay 80rmb to 800rmb), they are in fact didn't make any reservation and you might face serious 'break in' offence. ** The building structure is very interesting, and there is a tunnel named Fu Rong Tunnel which has many nice murals painted by students.
Tan Wei Ling — Google review
The most beautiful university in China... Great scenic views all around... Apparently, since too many people visit the university, they have put blockades at the entrances and more you have to make a registeration online to visit the university... Around 5000 people can visit the university in a day... It would be better to register 2 days earlier than your preferred visit date...

Came and visit the University as tourist. Quite impressed with the overall infrastructure and facilities.

If I can give 0, I would have given them! Foreigners: PLEASE BE AWARE, not an institution to trust at all! Run away! This is not a good place to work. They will send you "an offer withdrawal" before 1 day of your scheduled plan to enter Chinese territory. Save your time, don't ruin your life, don't waste your time. Never accept their offers!

Very peaceful and worth seeing ancient Budhist temple. Free entry, personell were very friendly to us helping us enter. The mountain trail to peak was not unfortunately opened. Outside of the monastery you can enjoy nice coffee.
Ivana Dobrovodska — Google review
The Nanputuo Temple was a beautiful place for both secular and spiritual visitors. The temple had a few of architectural highlights, a nice pagoda and a nice pond, some beautiful corridors, and lovely calligraphy on big rocks. The temple was also a big attraction to local crowd; tourists should be well prepared for a little bit of tumult. The kitchen of Nanputuo prepared great vegetarian dishes that you certainly wouldn’t want to miss, even though you were not a vegan.

Remember not to wear hats & sunglasses for this temple as it is known as disrespect and the god can’t identify you if you wear sunglasses. Deep history, and nice vegetarian food available too.

Free to enter and is one of the best scenic temples in Xiamen... There is also a mountain that you could climb which leads to a great view of the city... Also at the peak, you could enter the Xiamen botanical garden but there is an entry fee for that place...

Out of respect I didn’t take any photos or video, however I assure you that it is an absolutely beautiful temple a must visit at Xiamen. It is also a very religious place as they hand out the stick candle things to everyone and you can see everyone there praying to the buddhas.

Interesting ancient historical Buddhish temple which attract large crowd daily; be it worshipers or tourists. It is not a very large place though. Worth the visit to satisfy one's curiosity as first time visitor to Xiamen.

Very POOR experience. The person who served us seemed like the owner was not at all decent and very rude. They were only offering buffet which was very over priced according to the food quality and the staff did not entertain the a la cartè. (Buffet was 3000 INR per person). Don't go here thinking that you'll get good indian food and a dining experience. Total WASTE of time and money.

The WORST FOOD, SERVICE AND PRICE POSSIBLE!!!! The food is tasteless.... Way too low taste than home made food, nowhere near the restaurant quality food. And the food is unjustly overpriced. And also worst service to add to the cake top!!!
Abhash Krity — Google review
Well this is the only indian restaurant in Xiamen and a safe haven for vegetarians. The food here is good to taste and you get to listen to bollywood music which is refreshing in China, and doesnt make you miss home. Although their facebook menu shows a lot more variety, they have reduced the number of dishes on the menu which were not so much in demand, and currently they have only north indian dishes and no south indian dishes. Plus they dont have Dum Alu also, which leaves only paneer, daal and chana masala They also have mixed veg, and bhindi masala and baingan bharta. We used to order Paneer makhni, which is better than paneer butter masala and channa masala. Their garlic naan is very tasty and also tandoori paratha. Although it is slightly expensive, one meal with 2 curries and 2 breads will cost around 200 RMB but if you have a heavy breakfast and only dinner then it is not too expensive, although some items like masala papad and roasted papad are over priced at 28 RMB But had this restaurant not been there, our stay in Xiamen would have been very difficult, but thanks to this place, we had a happy trip. Non veg items are in abundance considering the Chinese crowd that comes here so often. This place is always packed be it week end or weekday and is open on all 7 days. but only during lunch and dinner hours which can be found out online.

It is the only Indian restaurant in Xiamen... That also from 2005. They serve for few hours in morning and limited hours in evening. I would suggest to call them and go. You can have full stomach with budget of around RMB 50 - 75 depending on your appetite. You wan't find many visitors but they serve you with big smile. Staff is very friendly. Food was delicious... We had Paneer Butter Masala and Cheese Nan. Both were wonderful.

If you're looking for a delightful dining experience in Xiamen, look no further than 狼群斯美式牛扒皇. The menu features classic dishes such as bread with butter, soup, salad, turkey with cranberries and stuffing, and delectable pumpkin pie for dessert.
The two owners are originally from peter luger’s. the beef here is the best we got in Xiamen, if not China. Very well cooked.

I went here for Thanksgiving dinner a few days ago. Fabulous! It was 300 Yuan (about $42) for a multi-course dinner with "free-flow wine", as Jacky Angela advertised. Bread with butter, soup, salad, plenty of turkey, cranberries, stuffing and little potatoes. Add in pumpkin pie for dessert, and it was much better than what I expected. Carolina took care of us, and Marcus provided some familiar songs and didn't mind if we sang along! Everything tasted so good! The servers did a great job of bringing the courses out and our wineglasses filled. I am not a salad dressing kind of person, but the vinaigrette on the salad was perfect. Not overwhelming. And I normally HATE salad dressing! The soup I think was a potato bacon soup in a thin broth that might have been gouda. The main course offered plenty of turkey and trimmings. Totally worth the money and looking forward to my next meal at Jacky Angela's. I am looking forward to another meal at Jacky Angela's, and if you are looking for great western food in Xiamen, be sure to check this place out! It is on the fifth floor of the Hilton that is located where Paragon Plaza is.
