Amazing piece of architecture located in the very center of town.

Huge means important and this one is expansive. They play chants so you can heat the impeccable acoustics. Clean as a whistle. Visit

It is truly beyond my comprehension how beautiful these cathedrals can get! You actually get a full sensation of medieval ages, and subconsciously diving over 500 years to the past! Make sure to stay longer in the church, and enjoy the organ play!

Medieval building with high ceiling and beautiful stained-glass windows, what’s not to like about it... Such historical town with a nice cathedral (was once a cathedral) to boast. Constructions for this place started since the 14th century, however, it was not completed until the 17th century. This town is a must visit.

Lovely organ. The poster says it will be played every Saturday in July and August. For some reason no sound came from it on 2nd July.
Adrian Cotton — Google review
High columns and overall in a good shape. I thought it was a standard catholic church otherwise but behind the church is a nice steppe kind of a structure mostly seen in Buddhist architecture.

Mooi kasteel! (Translated by Google) Beautiful castle! But it's a shame that only a limited part of the castle is open. Marvelous place. Steeped in a fascinating history this little gem has a lot going for it. It's on the small side for a chateau, but there is an interesting walk around the outside before spending some time inside. A couple of highlights inside too. See photos

Really nice Chateau to visit, not big but a nice place to visit The staff were very helpful I say this because our visit would of been so much nicer if they did a audio guide in my case in English, at other locations I have found that the audio guide sort of brings the visit to life, takes it to another level
Sam Edwards — Google review
Was sold out the concept of the 'dame blanche' but that was just 3 minutes of the entire visit. The chateau is nice and so was out tour guide but felt like they had overadvertised a small aspect just to attract (and trick) tourists.

Chateau de Puymartin tells a scary story of adultery ❤️ and murder 💀. While the lord of the castle was at war, his beautiful wife did not remain faithful to him. When he returned and revealed this fact, he hanged his lover and imprisoned the beauty in the tallest tower for the rest of her life 🥺. It is said that to this day her spirit wanders the corridors of the chateau and cannot find peace.😱 The place is great for kids and teens 👫. "Gives them the opportunity to test their knowledge of ancient Greek mythology through an interesting quiz."🏛️ 👁️🖐️👂👃👅

Great experience overall. Beautiful castle and friendly staff. However, when playing the escape game, the crowd made It hard to enjoy the ambience and puzzles. But nothing too serious. Would recommend

Fantastic. However, to few rooms where open for public. I wish that more of the castle was accessible.
Thomas Skou Dale — Google review
Whilst I might appreciate the castle during the day might be good to be visited (judging from others pictures), the night event is a real shame not worth a single penny. 15 euro to enter, with a space in a car park that might see you leaving the car at about 1.0 km away on a steep hill. The main part of the evening will be spent listening to some disco music and only at about 10 you can see some show. If you want to eat some food that is served in pity portions and has to be paid separately (15 euros for the hot dish). Save your money and stay home.

(Translated by Google) Set back from the main street, at the back of the cathedral, you discover somewhat by chance this magnificent little building, the "Lantern of the Dead". Shaped like a bullet, it reveals itself to you by chance. Small chapel, it is located not far from a necropolis, located behind the cathedral. Enter, and you will find yourself inside a cocoon... interface between the world here below and the world beyond. A must see, because of its shape, its purpose, and don't forget to read the sign nearby, evoking its history. Exciting ! (Translated by Google) A riddle !!! A very mysterious tower. A must see !!! Behind the Saint Sacerdos Cathedral, in an old Benedictine cemetery which has now disappeared, stands a tower. It was built in 1180: it is called the Lantern of the Dead or Saint Bernard Tower, sometimes also Lantern of the Moors. It would have been built to thank Bernard de Clairvaux (Saint-Bernard) who saved the city from the plague in 1147. He would have blessed loaves, then miraculously curing many sick people. Very massive, this strange stone ogive never ceases to intrigue... Its unique architecture contributes to the architectural appeal of Sarlat-la-Caneda, because it is very different from other lanterns of the dead. The tower is built with this beautiful limestone, this blond stone from the region which puts gold on the houses and castles of Périgord. It is made up of two pieces. The one on the ground floor has a ribbed vault. We can see an opening which undoubtedly made it possible, using a pulley, to hoist a lit lamp into the upper room. The second room, the one at the top, is inaccessible, it is pierced with narrow windows which could let in, at dusk, the uncertain glow of a flame, a beacon to guide the dead on their journey... But how could the lantern then be enlightened? The function of this building remains enigmatic. Perhaps it was a funeral chapel? The conical roof, punctuated by four stone bands, is covered with a gray patina, like ashes. The tower remains mysterious today. It was classified as a historic monument in 1981. (Original) Une énigme !!! Une tour bien mystérieuse. A voir absolument !!!

La Couleuvrine is a historic hotel with friendly and professional staff. We enjoyed our stay in the spacious and comfortable room located in the tower, room spacious and comfortable with well-designed and chic decoration. The breakfast buffet offers a quality selection of food. We look forward to returning soon to this beautiful place. The La Couleuvrine is an elegant, historical hotel situated in Sarlat-la-Caneda, France.
Good location, quiet and convenient to seeing the medieval part of the town. Very close to the Lantern of Death and Rue Republique. Small but very comfortable and cozy room, good linens and pillows. Staircase a bit of a thrill but that’s most places! Great bathroom accommodations. Would definitely recommend.

The most gorgeous Medieval city. The apartment was small but nice. The restaurant was lovely and the food was awesome and we were looked after by a really pleasant young man who was willing to engage and made sure that we were well looked after. Our only disappointment was the gentleman at the front desk while checking in and out. Very unpleasant in his responses and really lacked person skills. I thought he was a bit rude as well. Unfortunately he put a negative on our stay.

Stayed here for 2 nights. Nice location in the center of town. The area is very quiet. We got a unique room at the very top of the building with no neighbors. It's nice but extremely old and very hard to get to using old tiny staircases. Not the safest when you have luggage 😅
Kevin Kwok — Google review
It’s a lovely hotel right next to the beautiful meandering shambles of Sarlat. The room was a bit dated, but so goes sleeping in a tower.
Paul O'Dell — Google review
Unfortunately when we booked there was only one room left, a small double. Due to the high temperatures when we arrived we had to use the fan which was incredibly noisy. Otherwise everything was perfect.
Elisabeth Nudds — Google review
Lovely historic building with a fantastic location. I appreciated that after check out, they promptly phoned me to let me know I left something in the room. Memorable 4 night stay here. Parking is a bit of a walk but free. We used Sarlat as a base to visit other wonderful places like Domme and Roque la Gageac.

My husband and I visited Sarlat for a Saturday market day and found this restaurant on the Vanilla Bean app we use to find vegan dining options. They have one vegan starter, main dish and dessert option, all of which were delicious and just the right amount of food. We dined outside on a warm fall day. The service was wonderful and it was a very enjoyable meal.
Mona Cameron-Ball — Google review
I don't know how old most of the building actually is after refit in the 1980's, but it's got a lot of character. We had the room at the top of the tower, with balcony, old, knotted beams, tiled roof, mediaeval statues. Smallest bijou lift ever. Wonderful staff, great food, comfy rooms.
Iain McNaught — Google review
The vegan risotto was disappointing. I appreciate you offering a vegan option but recommend using a rice more suitable for risotto or offering a different vegan option like tofu steak in a nice marinade. The starter (salmon gravadlax) was better and the service was great.
Julia Chen — Google review
The room did not meet the expectations at all. We reserved with some friends and we were given a room on the road, not part of the hotel which was a bit strange. Our friends were inside the hotel. The room was very small, the bathroom very narrow and no wifi at all. The bed was very comfortable. The lady at reception very friendly and the location very good. Parking was extra which we knew about but in actual fact not really necessary as there is free parking in the same location (same walking distance) as the paid secure parking. A bit disappointed overall considering the reviews I had read before
Jacquee Spano — Google review
Clean room. Great location for visiting old town. Free parking is available for a little hike. Room I received had to go up and down severely spiral staircases and through halls to reach but part of being an old structure.

Sarlat is one of the best town to visit and stay in Périgord and the Couleuvrine is so quaint and pitoresque. You can sleep in an old castle ...the restaurant is really good and the service is impeccable. The ros facing the streets can be a bit noisy at night but it is all worth it! Price is also amazingly reasonable

A fantastic hotel, we loved our stay. Pros: location is perfect being on the edge of the town means it's a lovely quiet area, but only a couple of minutes walk to get to the centre. Breakfast - proper full sized, tasty criossants and pain au chocolat, lovely selection of other continental items. Room - we had a family room which had an outdoor terrace with a table and chairs. Beautifully decorated and really clean. Bedroom and bathroom were both huge. Shower worked well. We enjoyed being able to come back to our room and sit out on the terrace. Restaurant - we ate at the restaurant on our first night and would have gone back again, but it was closed on our final 2 days. Food was really well presented and tasted great, and a reasonable price too. Nice atmosphere on the outdoor terrace with good service. Cons: A couple of minor points. WiFi needs to be improved. It was possible to get a weak WiFi signal in the breakfast room, but in the bedroom there was no WiFi on our Android phones and only an extremely weak signal on our Apple phones. We ended up using lots of data. The terrace outside our room could do with a sweeping. We kept walking dirt into the room.

Restaurant Le Grand Bleu, located in the charming town of Sarlat in the Dordogne region of France, is a refined dining establishment that combines the artistry of gastronomy with locally sourced ingredients and exquisite wines from the nearby Dordogne Valley. Set in a quaint stone house, this restaurant offers an elevated culinary experience that highlights seasonal flavors and showcases the culinary traditions of the area.
On my last day in Sarlat, I found its best restaurant (so far). Clearly a cut above the rest. The degustation menu is very good value considering the wonderful quality and presentation of the dishes. The decor is modern and welcoming. The staff is exceptionally attentive and the Chef is a cracker. Booking well ahead of time is unsurprisingly essential. Thoroughly enjoyable dining experience. If you have reservations towards French coffee (like me), don't order it.

We really enjoyed our dinner at le grand bleu. The servers were friendly and helpful. They all spoke English which was helpful for the little questions about the menu. I enjoyed a foi Gras appetizer and a beautifully cooked cod and the dessert of soufflé was a perfect way to top off the evening. My wife enjoyed the sable fish entrée and beautiful dessert with ice-cream and other yummies. Thanks to Maxime and his staff.

Best meal and deal in Sarlat and the region by far. We had the Menu Bistrot for lunch: amuse bouche, entrée, plat, dessert, café with goodies and a glass of proper wine. All very delicate and fresh, full of flavors, truly French haute cuisine. It would have cost thrice more in Paris. Not to be missed.

Disappointing after all the great reviews. Food looked nice, but was lacking the finesse and taste we were expecting. Chef is very hospitable and gave us a nice wine pairing with each course that they don’t normally do so that’s why I’m giving 2 stars. Skip it.

A great dining experience with an interesting and diverse menu from a talented and creative chef. Every dish that my wife and I enjoyed was complex, wonderfully prepared, and beautifully presented by a helpful wait staff.

We ate very well here! I went with a vegan friend, and I don’t eat milk products and they graciously accommodated us. The chef came out to take everyone’s orders and he prepared a special meal for my vegan friend. My vegan friend was very impressed and felt that the meal was delicious as well as thoughtfully planned and researched. The restaurant itself is simple as well as the service - not fancy or ostentatious, but the food was incredible. I would definitely recommend for foodies who enjoy eating a very good meal. Also, if you have any food allergies, I would recommend telling them when you make the reservation. This will help their team plan in advance.

A great end to our holiday. The food was spectacular, not a single complaint from our entire party of eight (which included a chef with high expectations) and the service was wonderful too, really felt like royalty. We actually dined from the bistro menu at lunch but it certainly felt like it deserved it's Michelin star, and for amazing value! Didn't get photos of the amuse-bouche and petit-fours but these were also fab!!

It was pouring it down outside, but the welcome we received at the Auberge Le Miradol was all sunshine & smiles. We hadn't booked & were quickly seated with everyone well cared for & brought indoors as the rain made outdoor seating impossible. I had the menu du jour: green bean salad, chicken with olives followed by the most delicious isle flotante. My partner had the mushroom omelette. Delish all the way & not overpriced. Nothing too much trouble for the busy staff & a friendly, warm ambiance made it easy to stay, longer than the rain! We'll be back as soon as we can. Thank you all.

Very very good and authentic! Not only the food but also the service! They even speak english! We ordered the menu and everything was amazing! The potatoes with a lot of garlic and fresh herbs, the foie gras, dessert, a lovely gin-tonic and beautiful wine...everything with so much care and flavour!

This is my third restaurant visit in Sarlat, and by far the best. Well presented, high quality (The foie gras was noticeable), good price. I did really enjoy the casseoluet, which instead of tons of potatoes, was served with delicious beans cooked with the duck in the oven. Limited but interesting wine cart. In the heart of the town, distributed on three level, the last with a terrace which we discovered only at the end of our mea. That is worthy than everything else, and certainly than the tables on the high street, which are imho too squashed and subject to breath the fumes from other annoying smoking people that have such a bad habit.

Great place! If you like charcuterie and cheese, this is the place! Informal and homely. Friendly staff. Good service! Go with an appetite! My favourite was the little parmentier de canard. Delicious!
Humphrey Harrow — Google review
3 weeks in France and one week in Sarlat. This is the only restaurant that we visited twice. The food is so good. Probably not standard fare for Perigord. Meat and cheese is their speciality, more like Haut Savoie but so, so good. And the staff there are brilliant. Courteous, friendly actually very witty and charming - they make the visit even more worthwhile. We had a cheese plate, the montange plate of mixed meats with cheese and the tartiflette. The plates are served with a delicious and fresh salad but for just €1 you can get a side of pomme de terrre. I can’t bring myself to call them potatoes because I’ve never eaten a potato as good as this. If you’re in Sarlat and you’ve done the foie gras and duck thing (which is awesome) you must try this place, and you must have the pomme de terre side. If you’ve got the appetite, go for the coup de glacé, a coffee and an Armagnac to follow (not cognac 🙈😂) thank you to the team at Chez le Gaulois, you made our visit to Sarlat the first of many x

In the town but slightly towards the edge of town. This is a lovely little restaurant, the menu is fairly small and basically a deli, the meals are mainly a selection of meat, potato and cheese. The price is reasonable, the service is brisk and everyone is freindly and cheerful, so a fantastic place to eat and relax. You are packed in so it is a little crowded but this adds to the atmosphere. Well worth a visit. Even just to watch the meat being cut up....

Wonderful restaurant in the heart of Sarlat. Authentic French country dishes, locally sourced and delicious. We’ve taken guests there several times and the meals and service were consistently excellent. Highly recommend!

Nice restaurant if you are into 'chiffonade' of meats and cheeses as well as raclette. Very friendly staff. Definitely worth a visit! I would recommend a reservation although I believe they only take one for 7 PM (first service), if you want to eat later you'll have to wait until a table free's up.

Our second visit,Jo's birthday The welcome from front of house was lovely, the nice young lady appeared to recognise us from our last visit. We over ordered the food, and she gave us a reccomedation which we followed luckily. We had a pate & bread between us. Followed by 2 large plates covered in ham cheese and potatoes The cider complimented the ham & cheese well.

Wine bar
If you're looking for a wine bar with great food and atmosphere, Le Bouchon is worth a visit. The charcuterie is especially excellent and the small space makes it very intimate.
Great bar and tapas joint locally, right in the center of town. We love coming here. They got great wine, artisanal beer, yummy cheese and cold cuts. They recently added some more tapas to the menu that’s pretty good, ie...mussels, shrimps, beef ... They are also planning to expand to the next little space over. Owner is super friendly. Outdoor bar is super cute and indoor space is also well put together.

This was one of our favourite places in Sarlat unexpectedly. Different to most of the other eateries which focus on traditional dishes of the region. Here they serve a mixture of tapas and charcuterie & cheese platters. The quality of the tapas was absolutely fab! We had the duck hearts, tuna tataki, croquettes and best of all, the grilled calamari. The atmosphere was superb too. Informal, warm and welcoming. Very sociable place!

Lively atmosphere, great food (especially the calamari and the moules), lots of locals, and good prices (€53 for five plates, two aperitifs, and a bottle of wine) all added up to a fab experience. “The best wine is not necessarily the most expensive one, but the one you share.”

Without reservation, we dined outdoor. We picked 3 dishes. All were more like salads. Dishes were good but nothing special. Service was long.

Good tapas and wine, good service, but you have to realize ...a bit more Rugby World Cup was the feature for the ambiance🙃

This is a really nice, chilled out tapas bar providing a pleasant alternative to the many Sarladaise style restaurants. The plancha mixte was excellent as was the patatas and the croquetas de jamon. Champagne and local beers completed the experience.

Lovely place. Wish I hadn't arrived a little too drunk as I would have enjoyed this place better
