Sandcastle Lappeenranta is a popular tourist attraction that features giant sand sculptures built by around 30 Finnish and international artists every summer. These themed sculptures made from about 3 million kg of sand include dinosaurs, Wild West scenes with steam trains, and outer space featuring popular characters such as ET and Darth Vader. The location also offers small carousel-style rides for kids' entertainment.
It was our first stop at Saimaa Cycle Tour! Really nice place :)

Very basic constructions. Felt like a false advertising. The construction is alright but far far away from a sandcastle.

Lappeenranta Fortress, an 18th-century fortress complex, now serves as a hub for museums, shops, restaurants and theaters. The area is a great spot to explore on foot with its rich history depicted in various places. It also offers stunning views of the waterfront and easy access to key locations in Lappeenranta.
Nice to walk around all the buildings on a sunny day! You can learn about the different places and their history. There are also great views to the waterfront and it's a short distance from all key locations in Lappeenranta. I would recommend coming by foot rather than car as you can get the most out of the visit by walking.

Very beautiful fortress built on a hill with a breathtaking view of the port of Lappeenrenta and the cruise ships that criss-cross the lake. Summer is the best time to enjoy the port and the small beaches nearby. In addition there are plenty of nice little restaurants on the edge of the lake.

We were here after hours on a Sunday evening. We weren't able to go inside many of the businesses, churches, or museums, but exploring and walking through the area made us want to return. Excellent views of the harbor and city. Beautiful old painted building. A wonderful summer evening.

Saimaa, the largest lake in Finland, is located near the city of Lappeenranta and offers a wide range of recreational activities. The area is known for its stunning natural beauty and clean, transparent waters that are even drinkable. Visitors can enjoy boating, nature trails, and picturesque views of the surrounding landscapes. Saimaa's shores are also home to endangered seals, adding to the allure of this popular destination.
Greatest nature visit I did in a foreign country! Very very beautiful sceneries and the lake was extremely pretty. Lake water is very clean and see through, even drinkable! The nature trails around were also very entertaining to walk in. Thoroughly enjoyed the trip with family.

Holiday Club Saimaa, the biggest amusement spa in the Nordic region, is situated in Rauha, nestled on the banks of Lake Saimaa. Although the hotel building may appear a tad dated, the accommodations are generously proportioned and offer both ample ventilation and comfortable lodging. The expansive recreational facilities include options such as a bowling alley, ice hockey rink, swimming pool, various leisure spots as well as a sauna for those seeking relaxation.
A very nice place .. the building in the hotel looks a bit old, but the rooms are spacious, the ventilation is good and the accommodation is comfortable. It has large recreational areas from the bowling alley to the hockey hall, the swimming pool, many recreational places and the sauna for those who wish, and a beautiful view of the largest and most important lake in Finland And there are restaurants inside, and most importantly, the prices are good. I will definitely visit it again and I advise everyone to visit it if they want an enjoyable and quiet vacation.

Dec-30-2023. 10th visit over 5 years. Spa was chilly, air and water were colder than before. Lights were either too dim or too bright. Worst ever were two tents with tables and one extremely bright light. Cosy as an interregation room. Sauna was good as ever. Please don’t lose the potential you have!

Overall a good stay. Having or side restaurants offering their service was good, and the hamburger at O'Reilly's was very tasty. Hotel breakfast was a slight disappointment. I didn't visit the spa section so can't comment on that. Reception worked efficiently and service was good and polite. Can see myself visiting again with the family if I end up at that part of Finland again.

I was tempted to give even 2 stars. I’m enjoying my stay with the family, spa is great, found good food, kids are enjoying themselves and everything else works fine too BUT what I consider to be totally out of question is the fact that there is no real AC in the room. When it’s super hot outside and you decide to stay in a hotel, you definitely expect air conditioning to be able to sleep well.

Good hotel near beautiful lake with modern spa and fresh looking rooms. We spent here 3 days in spring We struggled with only one big deficiency - poor WiFi quality. Connection was slow with a lot of interruptions, somewhere (ex. Le Beef restaurant) it was not available at all. Spa and water park are interestingly designed with amazing remarkable fountain and deep water area! We also visited Gym area. It's equipped well and could be recommended for aerobics and power exercises. Check in/out were fast, all staff was positive. Recommended.

Pros: Location is great and Imatra city is like 10-15mins of driving. Good breakfast with many options. Nice area, dog friendliness, you can walk and enjoy the beauty of Saima lake. Cons: Boring dinner options at the hotel restaurants. Parks are full of dog poops and the room furniture is quite old.

We had a great evening with family. Bowling and dinner at O' Leary's.
Kristofer Pöysti — Google review
The area is extremely nice, with a large lake and a small sandy beach area (excluding the large amounts of dog waste literally everywhere even in the sand where babies run around and play) The room is fine but without basic amenities, e.g., shampoo conditioner or lotion. Also, for some reason, room slipper has a cost? Other hotel chain room slippers are just naturally part of the room price, found it slightly odd. The room also only had plastic glass? No real glass? There is also no real AC, so in the summer, it's pretty warm in the room. There is no smart TV for bluetooth or Chrome Cast connection with your phone, so basically, it was just a decor piece. Even the basic channels didn't work properly and at times crashes or showed an error screen. We are 2 adults in a double bed room, but for some reason, the sofa was turned into a bed as if expecting a third person? When asked if they could convert it back to the sofa so we can use it properly, we were initially asked if we could fix it ourself and put bed linens away in the cabinets. I shouldn't need to do anything for a place i came to stay comfortably and paid for? Restaurants in and around the hotel, however, were splendid, especially Le Biff. Overall, it's a slightly odd vibe, but i believe it's a good place for families and people with pets.

Excellent hotel! This hotel is located near a beatiful lake and surrounded by spectacular nature. The rooms in the hotel are good, there is a safe, a kettle and a fridge in the room. The hotel provides the excellent water park. Only one a drawback for me, it's prohibition of taking photos there. The staff of the hotel are friendly and welcoming.

The locality and the eatery itself were highly pleasant. Adored it. Opted for the burger while others chose the beef steak. The burger was agreeable, not extraordinary but satisfactory. The steak received great acclaim! However, one steak was undercooked instead of being medium, prompting a replacement. Remarkably, they prepared entirely new steaks, so commendations to the staff. Extensive drink options were also available. Overall, an excellent experience. Visited for a more refined dining affair.
Visited here for a bit finer dining experience. The portions were great for luxurious and enjoyable dinner. Prices are quite ok, considering the kind of service. I had a really nice experience here and will go again when the occasion is right.

Recommend this spot for a lovely high-quality lunch or dinner on the terrace or inside. Lovely service with waiting staff speaking good English alongside Finnish. Food offers the best local ingredients and some really impressive dishes! Good selection of local beers etc. too! The terrace offers a lovely spot to sit in the sun during the summer. Highly recommend!!!

Excellent casual bistro experience. We stopped by quite early in the evening and had no trouble finding seating. The food was well prepared, but a little on the heavy side for my liking with bacon, deep fried fish and creamy potato mash. The bistro is situated near to the water, but the view mainly consist of a car parking place. Excellent service!

Wanha Makasiini offers delicious wine pairings with mouth-watering testing menus, as well as an a la carte menu. The location is a beautifully restored old building close to Lappeenranta harbor. The reason for 'only' four stars is that the ingredients could be more locally sourced - serving seawater salmon in a restaurant located by the biggest lake of Finland seems like a bit of a wasted opportunity...but I would still definitely recommend!
Erika Gracés — Google review
The neighborhood and the restaurant itself was very nice. I loved it. I took the burger and the rest took the beef steak. The burger was nice, it wasn't fantastic but it was nice. It seems that the guys loved the steak! However, one of the steaks were done raw while it was asked for medium, so they had to change it. Actually, they did a good job, as they made totally new steaks , so Kudos to the staff. Nice slection of drinks available as well. All in all very good.

Everything was great. We haven’t tried much but the beef we can recommend wholeheartedly. I personally don’t like carpaccio as I believe it was over engineered in terms of ingredients. I’d rather prefer plain meat as the carpaccio usually is presented. However kudos for the efforts and in general I can’t complain. Haven’t tried wine. Service is swift and attentive

The food was very good. For starters I had pike tartar and it was excellent. The Black Angus I had for main course was well prepared and the potato cake and the veggies were really tasty. It's a quiet place in a historic building and based on this experience I can warmly recommend this restaurant.

Seems like a decent place with a creative chef. I had the fish platter and was quite happy with it, although came with cooked salmon instead of smoked one. The best was probably the whitefish so I would recommend it at least as a starter.

Restaurant
Angus Steak & Wine in Lappeenranta offers a delightful dining experience with its perfectly cooked steaks and delicious sides. The minute steak is a standout, cooked to perfection and served with fantastic garlic potatoes and grilled vegetables. The cowboy tenderloin steak is also highly recommended, featuring juicy, well-seared meat that bursts with flavor. This centrally located restaurant is an excellent choice for business lunches or evenings out with friends.
We were four and all had different dishes. I took the minute steak and it was lovely. Meat cooked to perfection and tasted very well. Garlic potato was fantastic and the vegetables were astonishing. Thybwere grilled very nicely. The sauce could be much bettee though. We had the cowboy tenderloin steak as well (medium). What a meat. Fantastic steak, it had a nice sear and the meat was juicy, served hot, and again the taste of the meat was fantastic. Potato wedges were pretty good. Some of them had a crusty skin and soft inside which is how I like potato wedges. I'd prefer if all of them were like that. The sauce could have been better again (Pepper sauce). One had meat platter, it wqs quite good and tasty, however, the chorizo was burnt (as you can see from the picture) but upon telling the staff they apologized and sorted it out with a new set of chorizos and boy it was delicious. So job well done. And to my favorite which was the prawn risotto. It was the dish of the night. Full of flavor, one of the best risottos and the prawns couldn't be cooked better. All in all very nice restaurant, totally recommend it.

Nice place, rather expensive. The snails were not that great and I got like 3 chicken stripes with very greasy vegetables but the goat cheese was amazing plus the alcohol free wine was such a pleasant surprise and did taste really good. All in all it was an okay evening with some mediocre good food. For the price I would have expected a bit more. On the side note I ordered an cappuccino and it was so small 😂. But the service was really nice and great.

No joke, best burger I’ve ever had. Soft bun on inside, crispy on the outside with a butter coat. Burger was nice and tender paired with great toppings. Fries were ok. They have vegan, vegetarian and fish options. Alcohol free wine as well. Service nice fast and friendly. You get complementary water (I’m not used to that in my home country). Interior cozy, pretty and clean (I really like their candle light thing). Will go again.

Italian restaurant
The Rosso IsoKristiina restaurant offers excellent customer service that is both friendly and professional. They allow customers to place their orders from the table and even handle payments there as well. The menu includes a delicious Pizza Pollo and Scampi Pasta, which are complemented by onion leaves and mini shrimps. Although the shrimps may not be large in size, the combination of asparagus and onion leaf creates a perfectly blended taste.
Definitely would visit again. Extremely friendly and professional customer service. They take orders from the table, also takes payment from there. We tasted the Pizza Pollo and Scampi Pasta. There are onion leaves along with the mini Shrimps. Shrimps were not that big but the flavor of asparagus and onion leaf blended the taste at just the perfect point. Salt was less but it just kept the original flavor intact. Pizza had pineapple, and those were big. Since I love pineapple in pizza, it was good for me. If you don't please ask them to leave that. Also the salad with nuts and mustard/garlic sauce was amazing. Finally, we also tasted the Panna Cotta, a pudding like dessert. It was also good. A bit expensive, but not that much of premium like Wolkoff. So it was okay. Good experience. Recommended.

Visited 1st time here for Saturday lunch. Had pasta pesto and prosciutto crudo pizza. Was disappointed with pizza dough. Felt like micro oven pizza. Pasta pesto was great with chicken and fried prosciutto crudo topping. Pasta dish was large and price reasonable. Place was not crowded. You can have also free salad with olives, cherry tomatoes, water melon and house sauce while waiting for main dish. Very friendly services. Would visit again for other dishes beside pizza.

We went to pizza perjantai expecting we could taste different pizzas as the promotion estates that you can eat as much pizza as you want. In fact you can select one pizza from the menu and have the entree and desert in the promotion. So if you don't like the flavor you picked you might to get stuck with that an to be honest one pizza is enough for one person so the promotion is quite pointless as if you some up the pizza the entry and desert, depending the pizza you choose could be cheaper just pick what you want than go to the promotion, specially if the person has not the S-group card. We struggled to find the waitress. We have to wait for 5 or more minutes until someone give us attention. And then another 20 min for the pizza. We just had normal tap water and they change it when they saw it was about to end. The pizza was mediocre, nothing really special at least the ones we ordered a lá Rosso and chicken bbq. Entree and desert were quite good. When we were about to pay, another surprise when we realized they charged us for the tap water. We drink two thirds of one and one third of the second and would never expect to be charged for that. In comparison with other pizzerias the experience was catastrophic I am not willing to come back anytime soon. Almost forgot, the salad buffet was so small and with very few options that I rather not get any at all. Big disappointment

Overpriced and under-serviced. Had lunch on saturday 4 june. In the chicken and bacon toast with fries and salad there was a small piece of chicken and about 20 fries with some iceberg sla leaves and pieces of sundried tomato for nearly 20 Euro. REALLY?? and it took 55 Minutes between us sitting down and the food being served. But hé, the waitress apologised that she hadn't told us that waiting times usually are 45 minutes. Never Again, thank you. PS: i had good memories of Rosso from some years ago, but have seen quality and service go down every year since.

Modern looking place with lots of air, overall seemed even a bit bare, since the place was near empty on a Saturday nigh in January. The food was very good, if perhaps a touch traditional. There weren’t too many fresh ideas on the plate that I could see. But a classic done well is a nice thing to have. Quite a good wine selection, with staff well on board with recommendations. Otherwise very good and fast service too.

The food was absolutely terrible, could not finish anything. I don't understand, last year the food was ok, not amazing, but ok. Now it was inedible. The tomato sauce tasted like it was molded, the sausage soup had for some reason cheesy liquid in it and no one had put salt in it. The lasagna was somehow both raw and too cooked. The dessert (rhubarb tart) was like a moist bread and had no vanilla sauce with it. I understand making savings but all of these foods could have been made more cheaply and simpler. Just add salt and make it simple and good. All of the trying to be fancy makes it bad.

This restaurant is between the new shopping centre and the pedestrian streets of Lappeenranta. In other words, it is not an obviously place to find and visit. The restaurant is rather large and is run by a restaurant chain in the city. For the price that is charged, it is no wonder the chain restaurant survived in Lappeenranta. There are two other restaurants with distention types of food, but they are all rather overpriced. When paying a price, it is not just about the experience of tasting good food, but also the experience and the environment. On this occasion, I visited the restaurant in a table of four, including one child. The waiters didn't mind where we were sat, and this later caused issues with regards to noisy and rowdy nearby customers. So, even before we started to eat the food, the experience was uncaring. This is often a problem with Finnish waiters, but in other restaurants whereby the price tag is as high as this restaurant, the waiters are usually trained. In this restaurant, any temp worker could have done the job and with no expertise in customer service. I could write more about the poor experience, but I'll get to the point about the food. Over priced is an understatement. We decided to share two starters. Beetroot dish. There were a mixture of sliced beetroot, and shavings. Not impressive at all. The presentation was in a bowl, and I'm not exactly sure how they expect people to eat from it. Poor culinary skills demonstrated. We also had a cheese board. The last time I had one of these for a star was in Warsaw, and I had so much of it, I thought I would never eat cheese again. On this occasion, it was OK, although there was a sauce on it that was too, although only half a place, so who knows what the point of that was. Main course, we had two fish eaters, a steak, and a vege burger. The steak was cooked well done and was satisfactory, despite the 33eur mark up. There is no information about what type of steak it is sourced from, and it was the most expensive main course dish, by around 10eur! The fish portion for the child was the same as the adult. The skin on the salmon was still on it, so again poor chef skills given the dish was in the children's menu. The adult version had a nice orangey sauce, and was satisfactory. The vege burner was 20e, comprosed of smoked tofu (from the shop), large mushroom, put into a burger with 5 different sauces in it, that they're was never the same bite. This may be nice for an Easter who is an adventurer, but it would have been nice to at least reconfirm the last bite taste palette. The worst part were the potatoes, which were supposed to be fries. Again, poor quality from frozen foods, given that there was hardly any potato, and just skin drenched in oil. Even this simple dish, the kitchen could not get it right. The waiters some how also thing it is good to give both sets of cutlery at the beginning, when the tables are not that clean and there are fabric napkins that occasionally go on the lap. The hygiene consideration by the management needs a reality check on the customers needs and not only focusing on the practical aspects for convenience of the staff. We didn't stay for deserts, although, we did want to order a drink between starter and main course, but the drinks arrived after the main course food. In summary, this is a restaurant that is over rated, over priced and more attention is needed on the customers needs and better quality food. I wouldn't have minded, paying the price, but the staff must offer some sort of service and think about table arrangements if noisy neighbouring customers. In that way, I left with the impression that the place is a compete rip off.

My partner and I had dinner at The Kitchen while visiting relatives in Lappeenranta. We were welcomed by friendly staff who helped us throughout the evening with food and drink choices. We stayed for three hours, consumed starters, mains, desserts, beer and cocktails and left happy and satisfied with the whole experience. I was especially impressed by the cooking of the steak which I ordered rare as well as being offered an array of exceptional choices when ordering whiskey later in the evening. Will be revisiting whenever we are here and I can’t wait to bring more people so we can try the Chef’s Special menu!

Excellent cocktails and customer service. Huge bonus on vegan options on the menu, such as a vegan burger and grilled vegetables. For this kind of restaurant I would've expected the chef to have a taste of the meal before serving. The veggies were way too salty even for someone who adores saltyness. Säräpirtti Kippurasarvi is a must-visit restaurant in the area, but advance booking is necessary as they don't accommodate walk-ins. Their lamb is soaked in saltwater for four days before being slow-cooked for nine hours in a wooden trough called sara, resulting in a delicious combination of sweetness and smokiness. The portions are unlimited, allowing you to indulge in the tender lamb meat and potatoes.
Absolutely one of the best if not THE best Finnish traditional dishes. Simple but tasty. Good service and friendly staff. Nice and unique narration to the almost 1000 year known history of Särä eating. Heartily recommended! Good for almost any religion, since it's lamb.

Kind of a must have experience when in the area but you have to book ahead, no walk-ins. The lamb that serve is brined in salt water for 4 days and then is prepared for 9 hours (so for the 1pm serving they start at 4am!) in a wooden trough called särä which gives it a sweet and smoky taste. They will serve as much as you can eat and then you can finish with a fruit soup. Also the low alcohol homemade beer is great.
Petr Vasicek — Google review
The restaurant only offers one local traditional finnish dish called Särä: a slow roasted lamb with a side of potatoes. The dish is accommodated with bread and butter and you can wash it down with some sweet homemade low alcohol beer. For dessert you get a large bowl of fruit soup. The price is not cheap although you can eat as much as you'd like. The personal was very polite and welcoming. That said, it is worth a visit only if you like lamb and happen to be near Lami, which is where the restaurant is located.
Adi Ganon — Google review
We have tried the restaurant after recommendations. The settings of the restaurant is great and staffs are very friendly. I am a meat lover but found the meat is very salty. It may be the traditional way of cooking but people simply can add extra salt but reducing the salt intake is really difficult. I suppose it's once in a lifetime experience. I have tried many restaurants in the world with family so can differentiate with other places.

We had lunch in this beautiful restaurant in the middle of the forest. You can go at set times, in our case it was 12pm or 2pm, otherwise you'll need to call them to book another time. The food is only roast lamb with potatoes, served with nonalcoholic beer (a bit sweet, but nice, similar to a stout), and followed by a fruit soup (mainly plums, not too sweet and very digestive). You can have as many courses as you want, until you're full. The staff are very friendly and speak English. And the food is scrumptious. Highly recommended!

The best damn lamb I have ever had the pleasure of eating in my entire life. Once in a life time experience. You need to reserve in advance, in order to enjoy the incredible delicacy which gets prepared especially for you. If you have the chance and the time to experience this place, do not skip it. Worth every penny.
