The Catalyst science museum is a great place for kids to learn about chemistry and physics. There are lots of exhibits, including a rooftop observatory, that will keep them entertained. The cafe is also top notch.
Absolutely fantastic place for enquisituve children and parents. Kids get to enjoy experiments and making science fun. The price is great also. Pay once and visit unlimited times for the year. The cafe is also reasonably priced. The museum is also a nice visit and if that's not enough there's a park outside to sort the young ones. I will say something which might not to be everyone's taste. The gift area could do with having a bit more. I enjoy buying souvenirs and more science gadgets for the kids (and me) to take home would be nice.
Rich J — Google review
This is a fantastic place to bring children! Interactive experiment areas are set up in a fun and engaging manner to ensure that the experience caters for each individual mind. The museum has multiple stories each with a different experience. From the top floor an amazing view of the bridge and Spike Island can be seen. Outside of the center is a nice play area and zip line for the children to enjoy. Duck and swan food can be purchased from inside at the desk to feed them in the water outside on the water. This is an interactive experience I would definitely recommend.
Joanne Joubert — Google review
Thought we would give it a go and glad we did. The kids loved the different exhibits and it's not a huge place but they seemed entertained for a couple of hours. Lunch in the cafe was nice and quick. The service from the staff was really good both the cafe and front desk. I would give it 5* but there was a couple of exhibits that didn't seem to be working. The kids didn't mind they just moved to the next ones. Also the age appropriate workshop was already fully booked Buying a ticket seems to give you an annual pass so will probably be back again after a while
Ravi Ahluwalia — Google review
Very interactive science museum. Great use of space and variety of science activities to keep children and adults engaged. Lovely space outside for picnics and there's a good playground as well as walks nearby. Impressive and recommend you take your family there.
Thuy Ho — Google review
We visited during lottery open week so received free adult entry. We had a brilliant afternoon. Kids ages 3 and 7 both enjoyed all the hands on activities. We particularly liked the stop motion video creator stations. Wasn't particularly busy when we visited on a Sunday. Kids didn't have to wait to do anything. Deducted one star as a few niggles like only one ball for 3 magnetic walls, no paper at drawing station or at air blower experiment, broken parts/handle on circuit boards. Would still recommend. We also enjoyed a walk by the water, the small play area outside and seeing the swans and geese. Spent about 3 hours there in total.
NH Daysout — Google review
Great fun for the kids, informative talks and the cafe is pretty good too! There's also a playground right outside so if you have time there's some outdoor fun too
Alex Hamer — Google review
What a brilliant interactive museum for children and adults of all ages. Great information about science, and ways to put into practice, microscopes to look up close at the smaller details (money, flies, material for some examples), stop motion learning and flying scarfs and paper cups. We were lucky to go up to the observation top for - what views, even on a rainy day we could see the roof tops further a field. Live shows and demonstrations by Rob - so engaging and enthusiastic, really got the kids thinking and shouting out. So many questions asked by all. Given web searches to answer further questions when we ran out of time. Do recommend going if you want a day out. Make it a full day for walk round Spike island and watch out for the wild life on the Mersey and Sankey canal
Gemma Armstrong — Google review
I came here as part of Girl guiding brownies sleepover event where we slept in the observatory, this is a very hands on child friendly museum! The staff are lovely and friendly! We took part in keyring making and science space shows, fantastic experience!

If you're in the Chester, Liverpool, or surrounding areas and looking for a simple, fun activity for the kids, Catalyst Children's Science Museum is worth adding to your itinerary. While it may not be worth travelling out of town for, it offers a time-consuming, enjoyable experience for the whole family. We were pleasantly surprised by the variety of simple science activities available for kids to explore. Before we knew it, we had spent over two and a half hours immersed in the exhibits. However, it's worth noting that tickets could be more affordable, and while the toilets were clean, they did appear a bit dated. Overall, Catalyst Children's Science Museum provides a fun-filled day out with the kids, perfect for those looking for a low-key educational experience.
HMZ HMZ — Google review
Great place for the children 4 floors of interactive experiments, spent nearly an hour on the 1st floor alone. Going all the way to the top of the building you are able to look out and see for miles over the river mersey, runcorn bridge ect. Has a park right out side for children to play on aswell.
Debbie Farley — Google review
We had a great visit here with the kids in the summer holidays. It's a fun, very interactive museum with loads of fun things to try. They particularly enjoyed presenting the weather forecast in front of a real TV camera, and making their own animations with various props. We paid to see the 'light show', which was actually a short presentation of interesting facts about light and some demonstrations of things like an infrared camera. The viewing observatory on the top floor has great views of the new bridge over the Mersey and had an interesting glass elevator to get up. There is a cafe which also sells ice cream. You can't take your own picnic food in the cafe but there's a big separate lunch room upstairs with plenty of space to picnic (also lots of space outside on a nice day). The playground was a hit with the kids despite the rain when we visited. The parking is free and there are disabled spots available. Finally, remember that when you pay full price you get free visits for a whole year- we'll definitely be back!
Tim J — Google review
Great place for all ages. Interactive activities for everyone. I've had more fun than kids. Additional workshops are amazing, too. Please remember to book a space for child and adult, as the kids have to be supervised at all times. Entry fee = annual pass.
Sebastian Stern — Google review
It great way of gaining knowledge of science specifically for kids. Adults enjoys it too. We had fun. There is free parking. You can have food and drinks at cafe. Toilets are neat and clean. Beautiful view from glass lift. You can convert you day ticket to annual pass.

Spike Island, a historic 19th-century industrial hub, has transformed into a picturesque riverside park with scenic paths and a visitor center. Nestled between the Sankey Canal and the River Mersey estuary, this unspoiled artificial island boasts parkland, woodlands, wetlands, and footpaths. Visitors can enjoy stunning views of the Mersey Gateway Bridge and Jubilee Bridge while exploring the large open space.
Lovely area for a walk and wildlife. Lots of different habits and plenty of room for all the kids sightseers and dog walkers. Shame the canal has emptied.

Nice relaxing place, needs renovation ,nice wildfowl swans ,ducks ,geese

Love this place, great for a walk, playground, wander to the old runcorn Bridge or View the new bridge and surrounding views, feed the ducks and swans, enjoy the picturesque canal
Samantha Rhead — Google review
I have been coming to spike island since I was very young and have recently started using here for running. I always love coming and being in the large open space, the views of the mersey gateway bridge and the jubilee bridge are great and i think the cafe has been a great addition in recent years. There are always lots of dog walkers and people exploring with their children and using the park area. It is somewhere i/we will visit again and again.
Rhianna Gill — Google review
Saw those posts in a cafe shop. Had a nice walk along the water and saw a few big fish swimming there. Nice place for cycling as well. Love the view of River Mersey.
shelly — Google review
I live not far from Spike Island, so it's part of my home. It depresses me to see that there's no water in our canal anymore and that the council almost seems to be willingly incompetent in trying to restore it. Shame on Halton Council for neglecting such a beautiful area. The fix is as simple as turning a water pump back on and doing some landscaping to bring the canal back to its beautiful self, but Halton council are too greedy to be considerate about conservation.
Harry Lee-Jones — Google review
Spike Island a great place for a walk and lots of wildlife too. Cafe food is really good and cheap! Don't know how they do it for those prices. Well with a visit.
Andrea Derbyshire — Google review
Lovely place to visit, for walkers, families, dog walkers, and anyone who likes wildlife or a good view. There is a small café on site at the boat house. Nearby is The Catalyst Museum, with another café and a play area outside, which is popular with families. After the closure of Fiddlers Ferry Power Station, the canal is currently being kept full of water by a team of volunteers, the boat owners, who are doing a fantastic job. If you visit, don't forget to make a voluntary donation in the bucket at the boat house café to help with the upkeep of the water pump run by the boat team.
Babs — Google review
A great gem of Widnes! Loads of wildlife due to the canal, river mersey and woodlands. Right next to the Catalyst museum, with free parking! Cafe nearby next to the canal. Lots of water fowl present in the canal and are quite tame. If you are in the right place at the right time, you may meet Hermon the Heron!
Emma Jenks — Google review
Peaceful place to walk and right on the edge of the water with a shop to get a coffee during the day and they've even got the water back in the canal!
mark corrigan — Google review
Lovely area for a revitalising walk. There are many ducks and swans in the water which are quite friendly and can be fed by purchasing some food from the Catalyst shop. There is a play park for children to enjoy and a little zip line. This is also a great area to walk the dogs while enjoying the scenery. I would recommend going for a nice relaxing walk here.
Joanne Joubert — Google review
Easy walking with great views of the Mersey Gateway bridge. Plus small cafe serving food and hot drinks.
Janet Flexney — Google review
A beautiful area right on the banks of the Mersey. The remains of its industrial heritage are still there including the wrecks of some "flats" (flat bottomed boats designed to carry cargo on the shallow river). Kids love the open space and the large number of extremely friendly swans and geese. There is also a well maintained play area.

Museums
The Norton Priory Museum & Gardens is an historical site with a plethora of activities for kids, from exploring the ruins and museum that date back to more than 900 years, to exploring the Georgian Walled Garden with its exotic plants. It's located about 15 minutes southwest of Halton Castle, which features fantastical wonders like secret passages and staircases.
Overall a great afternoon spent here. Great exercise in beautiful surroundings, the guided walk was entertaining, educational and humorous for both Adults and Children. Gardens were lovely, wide selection of plants, shrubs and fruits suitable to be grown in the UK, well worth the 400M walk to visit. When the vast array of roses bloom, the garden will be beautiful. Two exhibition rooms showed the history of the sites buildings and the people who lived/owned the eastate. Cafe was reasonably priced and the food and service were very good. I definitely will visit again.
William Derrick — Google review
Well, what a complete difference. I have always loved this place and haven’t been for about five years. The changes are immense, really well thought out and executed. Loved the whole experience. Love the displayed items. Love the little interactive sections. More excavation going on to the rear (very exciting). The walled gardens were beautiful, so fragrant and pretty. The volunteers were lovely and friendly. Keith was a star and explained a number of fruit trees. Herb garden is growing great. Produce grown is for sale. Freshly picked too. Definitely worth a little stroll around. Little cafe to have a coffee or cold drink, indoors or outside. Blue light discount applied when buying ticket ( buy one get one free) Happy days Will definitely go back soon
Caz Bitz — Google review
The museum is quite interesting, seeking to give historical context to what otherwise might seem like 'just a ruin'. It's fascinating to wander round the remains of the priory, including the undercroft converted into an entrance to the Victorian house which stood on the site of the priory, incorporating some of the original buildings. There is also a lovely stroll through a woodland garden. For me, the highlight of the visit is the walled garden, a short walk away. It's a beautiful garden mate of lots of different 'rooms' with fantastic ranges of flowers and plants. The original conservatory has been converted into a lovely arbour with places to sit and admire the garden. Staff at the museum and garden are fantastically helpful.
Finn Dymond-Green — Google review
The site itself is stunning! It's a massive green area, with a peaceful and relaxing space for walking, play area for kids, a museum with the rich history of the site and the family that lived there for generations and a café with a delicious cake. We spent 4 hours there, visiting the area around the museum and the Garden (+-400m crossing the bridge) that, because of the time of the year the flowers weren't in full blossom, so we'll definitely visit again in June. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful and also Paul, the guy who opened the gates of the garden for us (it's open at 12) and the lady that explained everything about the garden for us were really great! We paid £22 for 2 adults tickets, but they have different prices for kids and family tickets. I think they have some events during spring and summer that you can check on their website. Also, someone was having a marriage ceremony there, so I believe you can hire the place too. There's a parking lot in front of the building and accessible facilities.
Sarita Belvedere — Google review
What a gorgeous place! The ruins are absolutely fascinating and the exhibitions enrich the experience with a lot of information and history. The grounds are stunning, plenty of hidden gems to look for in the woods and the gardens are immaculate and beautiful so colourful. The cafe has some lovely food and the staff are nice. I will definitely be coming back because we've had such a nice time there.
Natalia Czarnecka — Google review
A fascinating little museum and archaeological site. I came here on a group visit, and we were taken on a guided tour that lasted an hour. The reception staff and volunteers were all welcoming and helpful, but our guide in particular was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic, and we learned so much about this site's long and eventful history. It was fascinating to hear about life in the 12th century priory and how in later centuries a Tudor hall, and then a Georgian mansion, were built by the Brooke family on top of and around its ruins. Accessed through an even later Victorian porch, the vaulted undercroft is remarkably well-preserved with a beautiful tiled floor. Was very impressed with the huge 14th century St Christopher statue and the digital image showing how it looked when it was vividly coloured. The museum is full of stone architectural fragments, carved stone coffin lids, pottery and all manner of medieval, Tudor and Georgian artefacts excavated on this site. The skeletons and their facial reconstructions were really interesting. All the exhibits were well lit and clearly labelled, and there were info boards, artist's impressions, and interactive displays especially for children. Some good views of the priory ruins from the upstairs gallery. There's a café where you can get light meals as well as cakes and drinks, some accessible toilets, a nice gift shop and free parking. Did not get time to explore the woodland or visit the walled garden, but I'll definitely do that next time I'm here!
Valerie Hinchliffe — Google review
I grew up close by and this was my first visit since being a child. I was not expecting the experience to be so good!! Very informative and interactive. Excellent mix of outdoor activities (lively woodland, garden and ruins) and indoor learning. Great way to spend 1/2 a day!
Jack — Google review
Quite different as part of the priory is indoors. Nice museum but quite loud/echoey when all the videos are being played. You can also walk around the ruins outside and there is a nice woodland walk as well as a lovely walled garden. There's also a reasonably priced cafe with a good range of food.
Sian — Google review
Had a lovely day here. Staff were so helpful and very informative. The museum was interesting and well done. The grounds and the walks with walled garden were lovely and autumnal and thoughtfully done. We enjoyed a lovely lunch in the little cafe . We had booked a wheelchair which was a real help to our visit and a much appreciated addition. We also got to see the Moon on display.
Val Bagnall — Google review
Our first visit, we were very impressed. It was raining but we thoroughly enjoyed walking round the ruins, the walled garden and the woodland, and will definitely return on a sunny day. The indoor exhibitions are excellent.
Lee Pitt — Google review
Lovely little place with friendly, very knowledgeable staff. Went into the gardens first where theres a good variety of flowers, fruits, vegetables and herbs. Apparently Norton is well known for its quince plants, and there are quite a lot if them around this garden. Theres some cute tiny garden sheds for the kids to play in and borders with herbs for different ailments, however it could do with more signage so you know what each of the plants are. Next, went into the priory and museum. This a relatively small space on two levels, upper level with a large room with mostly photos and models, but great views out of the windows over the priory ruins and graves. Downstairs is another room with more actual artifacts as well as the porch to the priory which is obviously used for weddings and functions. The St Christopher statue is huge and if you press the button there is a voiceover and colours projected on to the statue but the room was too bright in the sun so it was impossible to see. There is a shop and a cafe but this was closed. I've marked down a star as it is a little expensive for what it is but it is a nice place to visit.
chris h — Google review
My mum and I had a smashing time especially the walled garden and the Plant Fair for the extra £1.00. Buy your normal tickets online for the museum and Gardens, it's much cheaper than on the door. The walled garden was absolutely beautiful, well maintained and plenty of seating areas too, an orchard which we didn't look at. The museum and grounds were filled with lots of history, ruins, lots of trees and plants, a children's play area, picnic areas, woodland musical instruments, herb garden, summehouse and lovely walks to the canal. There are two car parks, one outside the museum and the other car park is by the walled garden, but they are far apart. Car parks are free. Those with walking difficulties or wheelchair will find the grounds uneven and there are toilets ONLY located at the main building, the 250 metre walk from the garden to the main building, an easy 10 to 15 minute walk for an able bodied person but a 20 to 25 minute for an elderly or wheelchair person. The toilets were clean and in the ladies toilets, they offered free sanitary products, a very nice touch. There is a cafe serving hot and cold food and beverages and an ice cream parlour. There are seating indoors and outdoors and also dog friendly. I was told the fruit and vegetables grown on site are used in the cafe. There is a gift shop, all located in the main building, look out for their honey.

Absolute gem of a place. Stunning grounds, fab little reasonably priced cafe, dog friendly and even more child friendly place to visit. We've got an annual membership which is incredible value for money. Highly recommended for all ages.

Interesting site of old priory now with extensive exhibitions inside an original undercroft and some Victorian tiles.Walled garden full of quince apple and pear trees and lots of plants and flowers to wander among.plentiful parking fabled acres via lift and ramps to exhibitions. Cafe and gift shop.Lady at reception very knowledgeable about the site. There is also a woodland walk down to Bridgewater canal but we didn't have time to do that.

I recently attended a brilliant wedding hosted at the Norton Priory Museum. The priory and it's surrounding grounds/ruins are fantastic, and made for a wonderful setting. I would highly reccomend a visit.
Aidan Q — Google review
We always have a brilliant time at Norton Priory. It is a beautiful play that has a serenity. Norton Priory staff are so friendly you feel like it is a home away from home. I would highly recommend the annual pass. There is so much to do for the children especially in school holidays, such as puppet shows, medieval days, jewellery making and even some of the plays are included with the annual pass, plus there is a discount in the gift shop and cafe. In which the food is freshly prepared absolutely delicious and a good price. There are also other events which have a small added fee but even this is worth it. If I could give more stars I would.

Small museum with plenty of interactive activities for the children to engage in. Beautiful gardens to walk around. Staff were extremely polite and helpful

Really surprised at how great this place was. The walled garden was gorgeous, luckily the rain stopped! The staff were very friendly and informative and there's a good cafe and gift shop. Will go again.

Very interesting place with lots to see. The garden was coming to the end of season, so not at its best, yet still lovely. (It's closed over winter.) We had very tasty quiche in the café, walked in the woods as it was sunny, and ran out of time to look in the museum! So we will be back. It looks like some people just go for a coffee and it justifies that. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Nature & Parks
Victoria Park is a restored site that was established in 1900. It offers an extensive range of facilities such as a lake, fountain, tennis courts, playgrounds and even a dog park. The park boasts a Skate Park, Splash Pad, Climbing Boulder and Bowling Greens. Visitors can relax at the Cafe or enjoy live performances at the Bandstand. Additionally, there is usually a Butterfly house on display (currently closed).
This park has something for everybody, well loved and well used. Widnes are so lucky to have a place like this park. Beautiful playing area various age groups, with water feature, ideal on these hot sunny days, ice-cream shack, local cafe in the park. Toilets in the cafe a long walk from play area, could do with some closer to the play area. Lovely lake with ducks. Disability friendly. Very clean.

Been here many times and it's always such a lovely place to visit. Big play area for the kids, the bonus of Espositos cafe and ice cream shop too. Great food and the ice cream is gorgeous, lots of flavours to choose from. Lovely little nature trail to walk through and spot the fairy doors on the trees. My grandaughter loves it there.

Brilliant park with great facilities. Includes splash pad, water fountain, gardens, skate park, tennis court, rock climbing, gym equipment, play park and cafe. Only down downfall is lack of parking it can be very hard to find a space on a dry day. Early Saturday morning is a park run, it can be hard to access the cafe and navigate around the park.

Butterfly House, cafe and ice cream self service shop, free to enter and free activities....also excepts card payments at the cafe and the ice cream shop... Granddaughters loved it and they are both under the age of 3yrs.. Going again in the future.

Fabulous huge park brilliant for kids 4 different areas in the play park. A water and sprinkling area for the extra hot days so the kids have fun running through the water. Huge field often used for festivals shows and fairs. We stopped and had ice cream from the small parlor, and it was lovely. Walking around the lake was beautiful until we went to the far side of the lake it was filled with bird poo. All over the paths field side of the water, Benches. Was a build up which would suggest its not cleaned regularly. Other than this the park is beautiful. And the enclosed area for the dogs is fantastic.
Lauretta Latham — Google review
Brilliant park lovely cafe. Toilets. Easy to get to. Street parking
Haze Brown — Google review
It's a nice, medium-sized park with a generous kids play area, a pond with lots of ducks, geese, swans and other birds. There's one or two dog areas as well along with two cafes, a tennis court, Basketball area and so on. Overall I'd say it's a great place located close to the town centre however my only issue is the fact that the park is always windy, way too windy for my liking however, should you be lucky enough to visit it during a sunny day you will be enjoying it to the fullest.

Great little park for the little ones , They also have a mini coffee shop too and a greenhouse with butterflies in
Stew Alford — Google review
Great park with almost everything you could ask for. Lake with birds & a fountain, Skate Park, Playgrounds, Splash Pad, Climbing Boulder, Tennis Courts, Bowling Greens, Cafe, Bandstand & usually a Butterfly house (though that’s closed at the moment I think) Only thing I can mark it down on is the parking. There is no car park so you have to try & find a spot on the surrounding streets which sometimes can be difficult.
Toxteth O' Grady — Google review
Best Park I have ever been, always clean and tidy. Love the little lake with the swans(the male Swan is dangerous tho 😄😄😄). Great place to get out with kids too, there is a big playing area.

Italian restaurant
Pesto Widnes is a traditional tavern that offers Italian tapas-style piattini dishes. They have an outdoor terrace for dining as well. The restaurant serves the unique Espresso Romano, which is not commonly found and requires skill to make. It is considered one of the most authentic Italian restaurants in the area. Despite its popularity, reservations are recommended due to its busy nature. Pesto Widnes provides excellent service and a diverse menu, making it suitable for couples, friends, and families alike.
Just had a super Birthday Lunch today here. The setting is ideal, the variety on the menu was fine and much appreciated. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a lovely meal.

I was there with my friend and we had a good afternoon lunch. I order my Espresso Romano who not many do or understand how to make it and was pretty well. A decent and one of the most authentic Italian restaurant. Even we entered without reservation, that place can be very busy and you can't just show up and expect to find table. One of the best places you can dine in around widnes. I recommend them 👌

Very pleased that my gluten intolerant mum had a decent range of pasta dishes to choose from (but only fusilli if you're gluten free). If you don't mind a 15 to 20 minute wait, there were loads of pizza options too, but we were on a bit of a tight schedule. Excellent value and lovely big premises. The staff were very pleasant and accommodating too. All in all, a great experience.

Wasn't in the restaurant was in a side room for a friend's birthday. Probably around 20+ people most of whom had ordered afternoon tea. Would personally not recommend the afternoon tea thought it was quite poor. Also was shocked to find we only had a two hour slot. What's that all about we were a party. Wouldn't ever book there for anything. Felt it was like sling your hook. Even moved us from one table to another. Not impressed. If it's the same in the restaurant 2 hours only will not be going back. Wasn't ready to go. You were just a number in and shoved you out.

Great place. Lots of choices. Excellent service, though was a bit slower than usual when we visited. Place was full on a Tuesday night, which speaks for itself. Lovely for lunch or dinner. Perfect for a special occasion

Really nice resturatant. Went there for a business lunch and the food options where plentiful, and delicious. The price very fair and the staff great! Would go again

Fantastic, purley by accident I stumbled upon this gem, I chose my Google maps on route to Liverpool airport and clicked search restaurants and Pesto was the closest so ended up here, so glad I had 3 choices for 9.99 or 11.99 or 14.99 that was for 3 different dishes, great tasting food too and waitress excellent. Will go again.

good food but tiny portions (the photos speak for themselves). the service, on the other hand, is really poor, there is no tablecloth on the tables and the waiters are not attentive to the needs of the customers, cold as ice. not even an Italian in the staff, too bad ..

Widnes Brewers Fayre is a relaxed, family-friendly pub/restaurant chain that offers a variety of classic dishes and international favorites. They provide an extensive selection of allergen information to review before making choices, ensuring that special dietary needs like gluten-free options are catered for. Despite occasional supply chain issues leading to some unavailable items, the staff suggests alternative options without compromising the dining experience. The service is excellent and highly recommended.
Great breakfast all freshly made and tasty. haven't tried other food yet but I will definitely be back to try it. Well done! Edit: Great Sunday roast and Alcohol free cocktails for under £3!!!!

Always thought great food here. Wide selection of menu and just enjoyed the new cream egg sundae

Oh my days. The staff here was lovely and took good care of us! The atmosphere was pretty good, everything was pretty clean and no issues. The all you can eat breakfast buffet was amazing! Especially compared to the Toby Carvery round the corner, slightly dearer but worth it! The sausages were juicy, the eggs were perfectly sunny side up and still runny, the beans weren't overdone, the mushrooms were delicious and the grilled tomato was great too! The only let down was the hash browns were a little dry but all in all that was damn good!

Stayed at Premier In across from Brewers Fayre in July 2021. I really liked how friendly stuff was, very welcoming and accomodating. Food was freshly made and very tasty! I had Cesar salad on the first evening and chicken was very tasty, not dry. On the second evening I had Sirloin steak medium done, again was very nicely cooked, and on the third evening I had "The Big Stack" burger, which didn't disappoint either. I liked a good range of drinks available alcoholic and non-alcoholic. For desert I had sticky toffee pudding with ice cream, it was hot and fresh. Pub is aligned with Covid rules, such as masks when walking in/out and to the restroom. Hand sanitizer at the entrance, one way system, also desks cleaned after each customer. In a good weather table outside must be very nice too. Lots of parking, nearby is a cinema, bowling etc. Prices seems low in comparison to some of the restaurants in midland, not sure about North prices in general.

Enjoyable experience going for breakfast there traditional English that is. Didn't have to wait payed around £10 for large selection of food (help yourself).. refillable teas/coffee clean spacious seating would go again... also think that kids eat free but don't hold me to that??👍 plenty of parking to

We called in today for breakfast with our kids. I had the unlimited breakfast and I got my 2 kids for free. Arrived at 10.15 which was almost the end of breakfast service and was very happy to see that all the unlimited foods were still available and the staff were still bring out fresh hot food. The selection of foods and drinks was large enough to keep us all happy. The restaurant was in good clean condition and the staff were very friendly and always on top of removing the empty plates. I would certainly recommend breakfast here and will definitely be returning.

Ate here 2 evenings, 1st the chips tasted like they had been re heated! 2nd night everything perfect.. it is was spot on!! But its only 'pub food' so dont expect 5* service good and friendly. It was nice to have background music, removes the 'chatter' noise

We had a delicious meal today (31st), with excellent service. Full allergen information was available for me to review, prior to making my choice, and particular care was taken to ensure that my food was gluten free, which was greatly appreciated. Despite a number of items being unavailable due to supply chain issues, alternative options were suggested, and this didn't impact upon our experience at all. Can't fault the staff for their helpfulness - I would definitely recommend this restaurant. Thank you for a great meal!!

In just one word, I can say "excellent." The behaviour of the staff is very good and courteous, and I can confidently say that it has some of the highest quality and most delicious food in the UK. I have been to many restaurants and fast-food places, but this is my favourite restaurant. Try the food here. My spouse and I come here two to three times a week.

Staying away for work, lucky me, dinner for one!. Was lucky and got a 25% discount. Nice enough place and food tasted good, not quite meeting the expectation of the menu picture!

Possibly the worst place I’ve ever ate at. We went for breakfast as we were staying at the premier inn. Will not be making that mistake again. Before we even sat down we had terrible service from the rude hostess. Then overheard many further rude interactions with staff. They were busy yes but that is no excuse. Found egg shell in the eggs. Severely undercooked black pudding. Many things on the menu online weren’t even available. Do not make the mistake of going here for breakfast.

Came here the other week with my family to celebrate my daughters birthday. First can I give a massive thank you to who I believe was the manager, she was excellent and incredibly friendly, offering my birthday girl extra ice cream on her desert. Wishing her a happy birthday and overall just making sure she had a great time. The food here was excellent, fresh, hot and well presented. Unfortunately I was to busy scoffing my face to take a picture. The staff at the bar were amazing when It came to paying and let me know the discounts you could get by signing up to the bonus card and even helped me set it up before I settled my bill. I was very pleased considering it was such a high discount for such little effort. They were patient with me as I had no WiFi signal to sign up on my phone and even helped me connect to the public network the restaurant has. Overall 5* and will definitely be making a return to here.

Every time me and my family visit, regardless of the time of day, the service is impeccable and the food is fabulous. The restaurant is always immaculately clean. Tonight (29/02), particular thanks to the manager who went above and beyond (as he always does) to ensure our visit was a delight. Very accommodating and managed to fit our family of 5 in, even though it was a spur of the moment visit so we didn't manage to book. I have never been dissapointed from a visit to the Widnes restaurant, and it represents great value for families to enjoy quality time together. Couldn't reccommend enough.

Pub
Restaurant
Church View Inn is a pleasant establishment that warmly welcomes dogs and offers a delightful ambiance. Despite visiting during a busy period, the attentive and friendly staff made every effort to accommodate our needs, successfully securing us a table. While the desserts were somewhat petite, the lamb dish was truly outstanding, with its tender meat effortlessly falling off the bone. This fantastic pub boasts not only exceptional cuisine but also an amazing team who ensured that our Christmas experience was nothing short of extraordinary.
Dog-friendly pub with a great atmosphere! We arrived during a busy period with most of the pub full, but the staff were really lovely and accommodating and managed to get us a table. Desserts were a little small, but the lamb I had was amazing, falling right off the bone.

Hi. I’m sorry to say, we had breakfast this morning from you. It was awful. The bacon was over cooked, like leather. The sausage under cooked. The tomato’s , warm on the outside, freezing on the inside. Hash browns, well over cooked, I couldn’t cut them properly with my knife. My wife, left all of hers. I didn’t want to complain when we was eating, because you had other customers in too. Please look into it.

Quite busy for a Thursday afternoon but our reserved table was available. Four of us ordered mains and desserts. We were told that there was a delay with food orders and we put that down to a new menu, however we waited the best part of an hour. Food was good though. Beef rib (X2), beef & ale pie, chicken schnitzel were all cooked and served beautifully. Bill totaled busy under £80 - good value.

We attended The Church View Inn over the weekend during our stay for Creamfields. Its a busy pub/restaurant in a quiet village. It was very quaint and in nice area. We were advised of this place by our hotel concierge. It was busy when we attended but the gent who was head of service was super welcoming and accomodating even though the pub was full and very busy. We sat outside in outdoor area which had shelter, heating and light. We initally planned to just have a few drinks outside but the staff advised as soon as table became available they would get us inside. We ended up just ordering our food outside as was lovely evening. Food was delious and well priced. Staff were very attentative and went over and above to make sure we had drinks food etc everything we needed. We got a seat inside as weather got a bit cooler later into the evening. Couldnt recommend highly enough. Especially the gent who served us didnt catch his name but he was wonderful and done a fabulous job. Will defo visit again!! 🤍🙏

The tall barman was the star of the show so lovely, helpful and nothing was too much. The dog menu, treats and water for dogs is splendid. The beer is good but for the food it was bog standard and very small would not eat there again such a shame.

Asian restaurant
Desii Indian Cuisine offers a range of dishes from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal in a contemporary dimly lit setting. It comes highly recommended by satisfied customers who have enjoyed the incredible and fresh food. The lamb curry is particularly noteworthy for its tender chunks of meat that are expertly cooked without being fatty. The staff at Desii Indian Cuisine are friendly and provide a warm welcome to all guests. This restaurant is definitely worth a return visit for its delicious cuisine and great service.
Went here for my birthday with my husband after being recommended by my dad. We absolutely loved it! The food was incredible, all very fresh! My husband got a lamb curry and usually he is worried about getting lamb as it can be fatty but it wasn’t fatty at all, it had big chunks of lamb and was cooked beautifully, so soft. And the staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. We will definitely be going back!

Booked a table for eight to celebrate Father's Day. Arrived at the restaurant on time at 17:30 and waited anxiously until 20:15 to be served. We sampled various tandoori dishes and around five types of curry, which were decent in quality and served piping hot. However, the most disappointing aspect was that the bill was overcharged by approximately 20%. After carefully reviewing and calculating the bill with the restaurant staff, they rectified the incorrect amount. To add to our frustration, they initially claimed that their card machine was out of order, but we insisted on paying by card and, lo and behold, they miraculously had a perfectly functioning one. It left us feeling rather dishonestly treated. I would only recommend this restaurant if you have no urgency to satisfy your hunger and don't mind paying extra for the privilege of aimlessly sitting and waiting.

Visited for a very busy Christmas day meal. The restaurant was full and the staff were run off their feet. Waited a while for our meals, but staff were pleasant and kept the drinks flowing, so we were happy enough! Food was gorgeous and worth the wait. We'll be back!

We booked to eat here on Christmas day 2023. The positives are a follows. The atmosphere was good, the staff were very friendly and the food was really good. On a normal visit I would imagine its a great place to eat but unfortunately they just couldn't cope with a full restaurant at Christmas. We booked the 3pm sitting and waited 45mins for a drink, a further 45 mins for our starter. Then another 1.5hrs for the main course. We gave up waiting for dessert as did other tables, they took them home but we didn't bother after 4 hours we just wanted to go home. 1 large family group walked out after the starter as they couldn't stay any longer. I wouldn't go again at Christmas but I would give it a go at another time.

Unfortunately didn't get chance to try the food. I reserved the table for two on the 21/12/23. The table was booked for 17.30 on 31/12/23, a full 10 days before. When we arrived there wasn't a great deal of people in there. One of the staff was scrutinising the bookings ledger, another was asking when we had booked, had we paid a deposit. There was no booking in the ledger and there was no interest in the email I was attempting to show them. We were then reluctantly offered to stay but informed that it was a set menu on a new year eve. There was no mention of this when I booked the table. We felt like they didn't want us there and I didn't want to spend anything up from £70 there. Will not go back. Very sad about the experience, the place looks very nice and the man who first greated us was friendly but that is we're it ended.

Carvery
Toby Carvery Widnes is a timeless family restaurant that specializes in serving roast meats carvery-style. They offer kids' menus and classic desserts. Customers have mentioned that the food is delicious and there are plenty of options to choose from. However, some reviews mention that the restaurant can get busy and cramped. It's worth noting that there are no menus on the tables, so ordering can be a bit confusing in terms of portion sizes and what each dish includes.
A really great and pleasurable afternoon.we were just passing through on our way to Manchester, we hadn't booked but they found us a lovely table. Service was exceptional, very friendly and happy to help. The food very good, hot and tasty. I would definitely recommend if you fancy a tasty lunch.

I wouldn’t be coming back here in a hurry. There were flies hanging around the whole restaurant and a big flock of them gathered just above were the food is sitting so I imagine they’d been landing on the food all day. The service was fine and the staff were great so no issues with the customer service side of things. From a customer perspective to come to eat somewhere we’re there are flies hovering above open food isn’t really great. The toilets weren’t restocked either. The dessert of the chocolate brownie and ice cream was nice though.

We popped in for an ice-cream sundae after a long drive north. The place was quiet but the staff were very attentive and friendly. I'm sure at other times the place is buzzing. Ice cream was hollow and wasn't great but that's not really what Toby is all about.

Had a carvery, food was very nice with plenty of choice. It was a bit busy and quite cramped. There was no menus on tables which didn't help when needed to order food I.e what size portion and what it entitles you to or not. You do have to go to the bar to order drinks and food. All in all I think it was worth the money and the food was very tasty so would go again.

We are regular Toby carvery visitors but haven’t been for a while before this visit. We hadn’t booked and it was exceptionally busy so we thought we would be turned away however we were asked to just wait for around twenty minutes and was given a table after only ten. Despite how busy it was all the staff were brilliant well done guys thank you very much

Just ... Wow. Thank you, to all the staff. As a person who suffers with Autism & PTSD, I don't always arrive on time for a booking; which can be detrimental to my experience. Coming here today, that's what happened. Because of that, the table we were given was slightly out of the way and, as expected, was having a detrimental effect on me. I wouldn't normally speak out, but I felt that I could and did. For a busy Sunday, yes it was difficult for the staff to assist. But once the situation was explained, the staff and management were amazing. We were moved in an instant and were made made to feel incredibly welcome. The carvery was beyond expectations; I don't normally finish a king size plate, but I did today. And the dessert was exceptional. I will have no hesitation in recommending and will visit again Five stars all round

Call Sunday teatime with friend after pre booking. Escorted to the table and a very efficient young lady asked if we wanted drinks. Explained how to go for the roast. She was alert and on hand throughout our stay making sure we had drinks when requested. A credit to the company. The roast was the best I have had for many years. Well done to all concerned.

Normally we love the cavery here but yesterday we stopped in around 2pm and the food was not up to standard. The whole plate of food was cold and the roast potatoes where raw in the middle. They also gave my partner the tiniest Yorkshire pudding ever. The staff were nice though. It was a shame because we normally really enjoy the food.
Keiron Blackmore — Google review
Food was amazing!! Table was sticky which was fine as we wiped it ourselves. Waited for nearly 20 mins to get the attention of the server but ended up asking a server in a different section for dessert. Again, had to go and seek the lesser spotted server lady to obtain the bill as the app wasn't working. We go to this Tobys quite regularly but unfortunately it has gone downhill so will probably be looking elsewhere. Again, can't fault the food!

It's an absolute pleasure dining here. It's clear that all the staff work hard, and they go the extra mile. Yes, the meat is a bit fatty but it's cheap and cheerful and that's what you come here for. I've never come here and had a bad experience; the staff are very accommodating to my disabled husband which is great because I feel confident about being able to come here again.

Lovely Roast dinner here, couldn't fault the food, all freshly made. Gets rather crowded though so booking is necessary. They were turning people away. A little bit of a wait at the bar to get our drinks and you have to join a queue for your food. The queue goes down quickly but the day we went it was quite long.

Great food, nothing beats a Toby! Due to my father suffering agoraphobia we ordered a takeaway away, you get plenty of top quality food, we've never had any issues. Staff are friendly when I go and pick up and you're never waiting around. 5 star service and food.

Super service and great food. Only little suggestion I have for the kids menu, smaller stomachs version. if you could have smaller versions of all the kid main meals as there were only three options for the smaller kids meals and meant we had to order to bigger one and he left half of it. Only a little point otherwise fab.

Offers a decent basic breakfast for the money. I paid for myself and my lady. The total was less than I paid for a single breakfast at a Hotel Indigo recently. Limited options for vegetarians and my partner was almost laughed at for asking if they did fried bread, I enjoyed the visit though, and will return.

Service from the staff was very good to attend to us all, time from ordering to receiving dessert was a little excessive but all in all a very pleasing place with great food, good Prawn Cocktail starters. Only regret is that I should have gone for profiteroles rather than the Christmas Pudding, lol.
