The Hatay Archeology Museum is a must-visit attraction, showcasing a remarkable collection of local artifacts from ancient times. The museum boasts an extensive display of Roman and Byzantine mosaics, depicting nature and human life across different periods. Its colossal size befits the historical significance of Hatay, making it a unique destination for history enthusiasts. Visitors are captivated by the conceptualized rooms and sections, setting it apart from other Turkish museums.
One of the great museums you can ever visit, huge and divers collection. Can't be missed if you in Antakya visting it is a must. However, it needs minimum two hours so make sure you have enough time when you go there.
Rawan Takriti — Google review
Really really impressive. I was there for 1.5 hour. It was not enough time. This place is huge. If I didn't have to run to a meeting I would have spent probably closer to 3 hours. Its extremely nice museum and really interesting if your into this kinda stuff. Would recommend everyone to stop by if they are in or near antakya.
Sander bj?rvik — Google review
Hatay has been a very important location in all its history which spans thousands of years. This museum with its colossal size is just a deserving place to house this history. With its amazing mosaic and roman collections, this museum is worth spending hours. The conceptialized rooms and sections are unique in Turkish museums.
Varol Tunali — Google review
This place is a really good place with really good mosaics. If you ever come to Hatay you should probably come here. There is also samtatues of greek gods which if you are into greek mythology you would like.
Ahmet Ceylan — Google review
Undoubtedly, one of the best antiquity museums that I have visited- its mosaic exhibition is amazing (and rivals Tunis's Bardo museum) and the tutorials and information is easy to follow and understand. It gives a great context to the region from pre-historic to the Ottoman period. A must see!
Erkan VOLKAN — Google review
An excellent museum with displays relating to all historic times. The collection of mosaics are incredible and there are some very well preserved sarcophagus. Well worth a detour to visit, also do not miss the the Hotel museum
Ray Porter — Google review
An impressive museum with a variety of exhibits about the area's very old history. I have been to many museums in Europe and this one could easily be in one of its capitals. The finds from the Hittite period are particularly impressive, as is the quality and massiveness of the mosaics from the Roman period. Worth it!
Remzi K — Google review
Very nice museum. It has the biggest Mosaic collection in the world. Plan to spend at least 2.5 to 3 hours. It has a nice cafe to relax inside the museum as you exit. Parking was an issue for us. Besides the amazing mosaics spend some time at th sarcofagus section.
Kostantinos S. — Google review
I couldn't imagine the amount of historical and archiological findings in this area. The museum was a trip to the history of the rigion. Amazing collection pf mosaic and marble sculptures. It is a must to see for Hatay visitors. Update: more sections are opened, and more mosaic is in display.
W Rose Gac — Google review
One of the biggest museum in existence and holds so many well known treasures, including some of the best preserved Roman mosaics including the world famous Gypsy Girl. Definitely should not be missed.
Brian M — Google review
This is a fairly new museum. You will need more than an hour if you want to see everything. A wealth of information, artifacts, history and culture all in one place. Well presented and it seems as if there is more to come. Definitely worth the trip. Note, you can purchase one entry ticket here and also see St. Pierre Church and another museum for a discount fee on the same ticket. Ask when entering. For locals, a museum pass is a great idea. It's much cheaper.

The Church of St Pierre is a significant historical site located in Antakya, Turkey. Carved into the side of Mt. Staurin and dating back to 1100 CE, it is one of the world's first cave churches and holds great importance in Christianity. It is believed that St. Pierre held the first religious meeting here to spread Christianity, making it a center of Catholicism and a pilgrimage site for Christians. The church also houses a museum and offers stunning views of the city.
Very old and historical church. Located on the hill so you have to walk to the top. The access if very easy. Actually, the inside is just a cave. I think the attractiveness is the rich-history behind this building.
Muhammad Luthfi — Google review
Entrance fee currently the equivalent in TL of €8 but free if you have a museum card. To be honest there's not a lot to see. Ten minutes max, which is disappointing given the significant impact of the Antiochean church in early church history.
Gregory Kane — Google review
It's closed for renovation works. After the earthquake those works stopped also. I hope the damages are not significant. This is a picture with damages from outside of the museum.
stroe haris — Google review
This place, although is small, should be visited for the historical value that it has. As the first church in the world, and another historical site in a city that dates back to the first civilised city-states of the world. It is better to have the museum card as it gives access to all museums and historical sites of Turkey for 1 year.
W Rose Gac — Google review
The church is a small hall in the mountain. You need to know a bit of history and significance of the place to enjoy the atmosphere, have a look at the city view and tolerate the groups of religious tourists ( not to mention a rather expensive entry fee) Take your time to go around the church (opposite direction of the main entrance). You shall find an amazing number of tunnels dug in the mountains and the figure carved into the mountain. Unfortunately, the path is not marked and cleaned, but it is definitely part of the amazing history where people had to prepare escape ways to flee religious persecution.
R S — Google review
Nice place to visit, returning back to the Apostles time and feel the history. The entry fees is high compared with other museums.
Tomas Boman — Google review
Easily accessible and worth a visit, but only if you're passing as there is not a great deal to see. Do not miss the Hatay archaeological museum and the Hotel museum, they are a must visit!!
Ray Porter — Google review
Interesting story, the first church were build in a cave, worth to visit. The entrance fee is a bit high so if you have museum card will be better.
Rawan Takriti — Google review
The church is open and unharmed (unlike the city center). But there is a tent camp right in front of the church. There is not much to see. The visit is worthwhile if you seek a spiritual connection with this unassuming place of great historic importance.

Recently, I returned to Turkey to visit the Museum Hotel Antakya, a new hotel in the Hatay Province. Despite my previous visits to Turkey and experiences like the Lykia Way trek and Antalya, I was unfamiliar with Antakya. This historical landmark is located along the Mediterranean coast and shares a border with Syria.
Amazing bazaar full of natural products! Must visit in Antakya and go for hummus and then coffee

The Habib-i Nejjar Mosque in Antakya is a stone mosque that has undergone reconstruction over many centuries. It features a minaret dating back to the 1600s and an intricately designed domed ceiling. This mosque, named after a carpenter called Habibi Neccar, holds historical significance as he was one of the early followers of Jesus' apostles and was martyred along with them.
Spent morning prayer here, very peacefull place. They planted orange tree in the terrace The place is built to memorize Habib An-Najjar, the carpenter that mentioned in surah Ya-seen, that keep his faith although have to be killed. He then rewarded with paradise You can also visit the tomb of Habib An-Najjar here. Such lovely place

Hz. In 33 AD, Jesus sent 2 apostles to the region of Antioch to spread Christianity. During the missionary work, the first Christian community in history and the Saint Pierre Church formed in Antiochia. However, the majority of Antioch people react violently to the apostles. On top of that, Carpenter Habib - i Neccar, who first believed in the apostles, made suggestions to the people of Antioch and helped the apostles. 3. An apostle is also sent to the city to support the apostles. However, all this is not enough to calm the people of Antioch, the apostles and Habib - i Neccar was killed by the people of Antioch. In the Qur'an, these events are explained in verses 13 and 19 of Surah Yasin. In this respect, the Habib - i Neccar Mosque was built in the 13th century during the period of Baybars, the Turkish Mameluke Sultan of Egypt and the region.
Ismail Onal Morcul — Google review
According to the Qur'an, Habib-i Neccar (neccar means carpenter) was the first person who believed in apostles of Jesus, and thus, was slaughtered by the people of Antioch. After the region became Muslim during the Abbasi reign around 6th century, they built this historical mosque in memory of Habib-i Neccar by replacing an old temple. The rumour has it that, Habib-i Neccar also believed that there will be a last prophet after Jesus, so, Muslims also consider him a sacred person who became Muslim 6 hundred years before the Prophet Mohammed.
Ahmet İhsan Kaya — Google review
Habib the Carpenter, or Habib Al-Najjar, was, according to the belief of Muslims, a martyr who lived in Antioch at the time of Jesus Christ. In Muslim tradition, Habib believed the message of Christ's disciples sent to the People of Ya-Sin, and was subsequently martyred for his faith. This place contains the body of Habeed who’s considered as a pious for Muslims.
Kassem Maksoud — Google review

Castle
The Bakras Castle is an impressive structure situated on a plain, surrounded by protective ravines. It has managed to remain remarkably well-preserved over time. Accessing the castle can be confusing as there is no clear pathway upon arrival. Despite this challenge, exploring the ancient castle proves to be an enjoyable and thrilling experience. However, it should be noted that reaching the castle by car is not possible, and caution should be exercised due to rough grounds on the premises.
Amazing ancient castle. Much older than it's thought to be. Difficult to explore, but a lot of fun.
Abhay James — Google review
Impressive setting overlooking the plain, protected by ravines on either side. Surprisingly well preserved. Excellent road leading to castle, but once you're there, it's unclear how to get in. We tried clambering various scary ways, but didn't find a path to the top. A walking stick would be a good idea in any case. It would be nice if there were a safe, signposted way in.

The history of the castle, which is thought to date back to the Middle Ages due to the features of its round and high castle bastions in several levels, dates back to the Hellenistic period. The castle, built on a steep hill among the mountains to the west of the village road, served to protect the entrance of the Belen pass at first and the Seleucid capital after Antakya was founded. The castle, which was the most important defense point of the Principality of Antakya in the north during the Crusader period, changed hands several times and then fell into the hands of the Knights Templar and was besieged by Baybars in 1268. The castle, which is large enough to accommodate a regiment of soldiers, maintains its magnificence by remaining intact, although it is generally in ruins. Located on a high hill, whose north and south sides are separated by deep valleys, the castle is waiting to be discovered with its three-storey square architecture. "We need to bring it to light" Hatay Tourism Association President Sabahattin Nacioğlu, in his statement to the AA correspondent, reminded that the story of the city began in the Paleolithic Age, when the first traces of human settlement were found, and that it has been the center of civilization of different nations and cultures for centuries. The world's first cave church, St. Stating that there are traces from every period of history in the city, which hosts St. Pierre and Habib-i Neccar, the first mosque of Anatolia, Nacioğlu continued as follows: "Unfortunately, however, Bakras Castle has been abandoned to its fate. However, Bakras Castle is a very old castle, and when you go from Antakya to Adana, it is located in the location we call Topboğazı. The castle is a very beautiful place for people who have been going there for years, and it has a very historical importance. It is a place that he said he wanted. Of course, the governorship and municipal authorities of our province have very important things to do here. We need to bring this to light. It is a castle that will especially attract the attention of tourists. It should be a place that people should visit when they visit Hatay. When our groups visit, they can see that beautiful view. "There is no trip there at the moment, but if the restoration and roads are done, landscaping is carried out and we, as tourism professionals, promote it, it will be included among the places to visit and see." Dünyanın ilk mağara kilisesi St. Pierre ve Anadolu'nun ilk camisi Habib-i Neccar'ı topraklarında barındıran kentte, tarihin her dönemine ait izlerin bulunduğunu aktaran Nacioğlu, şöyle devam etti: "Ancak maalesef Bakras Kalesi kaderine terk edilmiş.

Pöç Kasap ve Restaurant is a traditional eatery housed in an establishment with rustic stonewalls, offering a delectable selection of grilled meats, lahmacun, and hummus. Highly recommended, this classic restaurant allows patrons to customize their meals by combining options like Tepsi Kebab and Kagit Kebab served alongside Pepper Flat Bread.
Strongly recommended. Multiple your choice, make it half + half to try both of these; Tepsi Kebab + Kagit(on paper) Kebab + Pepper Flat Bread(biberli ekmek) Service could be better, Turkish wellcoming deserves better than giving just one slice of lemon and two slice of radish.

This restaurant has a fresh food and also tasty. I ordered the kagit kebab which was very good. The layout is gorgeous but two things that brought down the rate. The first is when I asked the staff if it is possible to photograph their stone oven, after the agreed, one of the worker in the oven room showed a very unpleasant behaviour. The second was un unclean washroom.

I visited here with some local and foreign friends. Surely people have always some doubts why here is so popular. This doubt might be price or taste. But neither price nor taste is bad. They are even under-rated. You will love and will be surprised with low price. The only disadvantage, you have to wait a bit longer.

If there was an option to give 6 stars, I would use it. The food is absolutely delicious. Everything is tasty and refined. One food reminded me of my origin country, Lebanon, so they brought me more, complimentary. The atmosphere is amazing, the setting beautiful and the music enjoyable and not too loud. I highly recommend their Lübnan Cevizli, olives with thyme, grilled cheese with garlic sauce and Helva with cheese. They have a nice homemade wine, I had the red "özel seri" and was happy with it. Authentic Turkish & Syrian cuisine in a gorgeous old-fashioned, yet cozy, setting. Love the upstairs with a view of the streets. Many vegetarian options, and chef is flexible to adjust the menu according to your needs. Customer service is exceptional.

Fine food, wide selection of dishes, friendly atmosphere and good service! Another great restaurant in Antakya, if you like fine exotic food, you must try cherry kebab, Maklubeh, The place have an outdoor and indoor seating, live music, and nice mezeh dishes and serve alcoholic drinks. The location is very good in the old city, Must visit!

The Turkish restaurant Müzeyyen Antakya offers an incredible dining experience with its beautiful atmosphere and delectable cuisine. The ambience is stunning, and the dishes are absolutely delicious. The hummus has a distinct and delightful flavor that is truly enjoyable, while the other eggplant appetizers are also excellent. When it comes to main courses, the Alti Ezmeli Beyti and Sarma Beyti come highly recommended. The staff is friendly and helpful, enhancing the overall dining experience.
It’s a hidden gem, nice restaurant experience with a plate of Mezze and the Kebaps. I also ordered the chicken and it was juicy and tender. They have indoor outdoor seating and the vibe was nice. The staffs are also friendly.

Typical Antakya cuisine and decoration, good food yet slightly expensive than other places that provide same service.

Wonderful dinner! The staff was friendly and helpful. The food was great! We had a variety of dishes that we shared. They serve wine as well. We tried a different restaurant the second night and wished we had come back here. It’s worth the visit!
