The Beach of Durrës is a popular coastal destination that complements the vibrant city. It features a long stretch of golden sand along the Adriatic Sea, making it an ideal spot for beach enthusiasts and water lovers. The beach offers a lively atmosphere with beachfront cafes, water sports, and entertainment options. Visitors can enjoy both relaxation and adventure here. Additionally, the area boasts public and private sections backed by hotels, bars, and eateries.
Beach is good, the sea was clean but a little cold in the mornings. Sunbeds were 500lek (5 euro) for two sunbeds and umbrella. It is a little crowded.
Frederika Trajkovska — Google review
Earlier I left a negative review and now I want to revise it: I still believe the beach to be unattractive and overcrowded. The air is also quite polluted compared to other areas in Albania. However the people in Durres have been so kind and warm! It’s one of the friendliest places I’ve been. I think the people here are generally very happy and even though it’s a fairly big city, it still has a small town feel. This is a great place to make friends but the beach leaves a lot to be desired.
James D — Google review
Disclaimer: I went here in March and I would recommend you do everything in your power to avoid this beach. It looks dirty. It smells dirty. There is nothing to do and the walk was not relaxing. +1 star cause I took a cool picture of the pavilion at the South end of the beach which looks like it's from a Wes Anderson movie.
Corine Bos — Google review
They are just slowly opening up for the busy months. It is a nice beach with many shops and restaurants.
Alejandro Villavicencio — Google review
I visited in March and I would not recommend visiting this beach. It’s dirty, pretty miserable and not a relaxing visit to the beach at all. There is litter all over the beach, and what seemed like a layer of muck and grime on the surface of the sea and the wet sand. Maybe the only good thing is the dedicated cycle and walking path, but that just… ends at some point nowhere near Durres centre.
J K — Google review
Coast is dirty however people are great, helfull and warm beside water is great, shallow and safe. You can play with your kids so safely.
zafer ?ak?r — Google review
Been travelling Croatia, Montenegro and when arrived here, i found this beach to be... Tragic. Dirty, you'd probably have to walk for miles into the water to be able to swim. Milions of sun bed for rent. Good i always book a night only in advance when going to a new place so i happily went for 5 mins walk and left next day

The Beach of Durrës is a coastal haven that beautifully complements the vibrant city. With its long stretch of golden sand along the Adriatic Sea, it's a sun-soaked destination for beach lovers and water enthusiasts. The beach exudes a lively atmosphere, with beachfront cafes, water sports, and entertainment options, making it perfect for both relaxation and adventure. The clear blue waters provide a refreshing respite from the sun, and the picturesque sunsets over the sea offer a serene way to end the day. Durrës Beach is a must-visit spot for locals and tourists alike, creating a harmonious blend of seaside enjoyment and city life that captures the essence of this coastal gem in Albania.
Hovhannes Minasyan — Google review
A lovely place for a really cheap beach holiday. I paid £158 total for return flights & an apartment on the beach, for 5 nights for 3 people. We had a great time in Durres where everybody seemed very friendly. We can't wait to return.
Courtney Barrett (CJ Renzo) — Google review
It was unforgettable! The beaches are spacious and clean, and the sea is incredibly warm. People are kind and friendly. The owner of the apartment is cordial and helpful, always there for any help. We will definitely come again. Thank you for everything!
Danijela Djurisic — Google review
Didn't set foot in the water at all, it's dirty with black oil deposit, beach is dirty with plastic bottles, trash and cigarette butts etc... Broken side walk, hotel is over priced during July/August considering overall condition of the beach. Beach is very small with millions of sun beds, over built and broken... Taxi is outrageous, 15.0euro for 3kms, some restaurants are okay but other fast food stores just try to rip you off, 200leke for very small portion of fries etc... Enough said... after been traveling in Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Greece and Croatia etc... The beach in Durres is not the one that I will come the second time for sure.
SPNH2233 — Google review
this is not Albanian turquoise rivirra rather cheap and cheerful beach escape for Tirana. Ugly sand color but cannot fault a see temperature it's like swimming in a warm soup :)
ThePolishTraveller — Google review
I guess the bad reviews come from the high season. I am currently here and it is definitely should be higher rated in my opinion. Water is clear and not dirty. Also a bonus not having the sardine style umbrellas. Good time to come.

Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
Durrës Amphitheatre is a 2nd-century CE Roman amphitheater built by Emperor Trajan, boasting a capacity of 20,000 seats. Located in the heart of Durres, Albania, this historical site offers visitors an authentic glimpse into the ancient past. While exploring the city, travelers can immerse themselves in local culture and reminisce with Albanians about their cherished memories.
The Roman Amphitheater of Durrës was built under emperor Trajan in 2nd century and was destroyed twice by earthquakes in the 6th and 10th centuries. It is still preserved very well, considering everything. Its capacity was estimated from 15000 to 18000 spectators. It was discovered in 1966 and it is a place you must see while visiting the city.
Daniel Haman — Google review
The ruins of the Roman amphitheater are in the middle of the center of Durrës and would be hard to miss if you're looking for whatever little remains of the ancient part of the city. You might be tempted not pay the admission price because most of the ruins are visible from the streets that surround it. But if you're a lover of archaeology and you want to get a closer look at the location of gladiator fights in a Roman province, a stroll inside is essential. You might have to do a little bit of careful climbing, but it's part of the adventure. Well worth the detour.
Georges Younes — Google review
What a great spot to see and feel history, the admission price of 400 leks for two of us is very reasonable. There is no guided tour here, you just walk around by yourself and it's perfect!!! You walk out on the field in the middle as well. There's also a really cool mosaic in one the rooms.
Brian Helms — Google review
Nice day out with family. Plenty to see if you like archaeological sites and ruins, it is a long walk around with some uneven ground where it is difficult to walk. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes for climbing. Lots of shaded areas yo stop and rest The coffee shop is very overpriced but comes in handy for cold refreshments after the big walk. We went on Saturday and there was no parking available it is better to catch a bus if you can. Lots of people around but the place is huge so it doesn't feel over crowded. Expect to pay an entrance fee 1000 LK per adult and 500 for a child over 12
Sandra Elezovic — Google review
This is our second time coming here in five years. There is a 2000 year old story written and lived in these walls. It definitely needs a lot of work to preserve it and make it more interesting, because this amphitheater is a treasure that needs to be known by everyone. We still enjoyed it. My 9 year young daughter was very excited to visit this gem and she loved it.
Eduart Mustafa — Google review
Great place to visit but poor service. I went there the last Sunday of October. The last Sunday of each month you can visit all the historical museums and parks without paying if you are Albanian. But the lady who worked there didn't let me to go in,because she told me that I have to pay. I went to the Archeological museum too, and there I could visit the place without paying. The law is not the same 😉🤔
Majlinda Linda — Google review
The place is OK, it's cheap to get in but nothing special to see. If they dig out a bit more and cater for international tourists it will help. It's one of the handful of places to visit in Durres so you might as well pop in to it.
Stuart Hurcomb — Google review
The biggest Roman amphitheater on the Balkan peninsula! Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area. And there is no need to pay the entrance fee, just walk around it and you will have a great view from above!
Marc Stadler — Google review
A lot of history here. If you go to the street above the amphitheater, you can have an ample view of the complex. Worth going there.
Gaby Gancea — Google review
What a place, can only imagine what it was like, but beautiful to wander around and take it in
Chris Scott — Google review
One of the oldest Amphitheaters in Europe. Visitors can climb old seats, stand in the middle of the theater (and perform if you want). It's not really big, in 10 -15 minutes you can cover inside and outside. Cost at the time of the visit was about US $3 per person. Still, ancient history you can touch and make your imagination wonder is priceless.
Val Klionsky — Google review
Old but in ruins. Enter after paid some euros. You can see everything from outside.

Castle
Sights & Landmarks
The Venetian Tower of Durrës, also known as "Torra e Durresit," is a significant historical site that reflects the city's rich past and strategic importance. Built in the 15th century by the Venetians on the remains of a Byzantine tower, it stands as a testament to the city's fortified history. Perched atop a hill, Durres Castle offers panoramic views and provides insight into the city's medieval heritage.
It's like remains of Castle, one can see only wall of the castle which still remains. At the end of tower you will find the tower.
Syed Hamid Akbar — Google review
The Venetian Tower is not that towering. Still, if you're walking nearby, why not take a look at the tower and a section of very old 10-metre wall?
Hungry Ghost — Google review
Located by the tip of Durres harbour front. Easy to get to with taxi for us. Good way to start here visit the tower, then walk to the sea front to enjoy the view and walk along the shore. Then walk to the Durres amphitheater and follow up to the square, great mosque and the city centre to grab a lunch or coffee.
Tomson Chan — Google review
Nothing much, really. If you come only to see the castle well it’s not worth it. However, if you come to go around the place that will be ok,, there is some cafes and restaurants and the beach is just near. It’s next to the old mosque so you can walk from the castle to the mosque and vis versa.

It's closed but looking forward in coming back to see it next year. Durres Castle- This monument consists of a single tower and wall. Referred to in many guides as the Venetian Tower. It dates way back to the 400s, during the reign of the Byzantine Emperor Anastasius I

Nice part of a castle near to the see. If you have a walk and passing by that is a nice place to see for minute or two. We stopped by on our way to promenade.

Great sample of an ancient architecture that allows you feel how old this city is.

Well reconstructed, but the fence around the base makes it a terrible tourism draw. Could be much more photographed.

The Tower of Durrës, known locally as the "Torra e Durrësit," is a remarkable relic of the city's rich history and strategic significance. This imposing structure, which dates back to the Venetian rule in the 15th century, commands attention with its robust stone walls and cylindrical design. Climbing to the top offers panoramic views of the city, its picturesque coastline, and the Adriatic Sea beyond. The tower's interior houses a small museum, providing visitors with insights into its historical context and the city's maritime heritage. Whether you're interested in history, architecture, or simply seeking a stunning vantage point, the Tower of Durrës is a must-visit destination that encapsulates the enduring allure of this coastal city.

Byzantine Forum in Durrës was the bustling center of the city back in the 6th Century AD. Although not well-preserved, it still stands as a monumental place with its ancient artifacts and structures. The Byzantine Market within the forum is a sight to behold, but there are calls for more investment in maintaining these historical treasures. Despite being visible from the street, there's potential for local authorities to better utilize this significant site.

Gusto di Mare & Sushi Time is a top-rated restaurant in Durres, offering a delightful dining experience. This establishment is known for its delectable seafood and sushi options, making it a must-visit for food enthusiasts. With its inviting atmosphere and excellent service, it's an ideal spot for enjoying a satisfying dinner. Whether you're craving fresh seafood or flavorful sushi, this restaurant promises to deliver an unforgettable culinary journey.
I got take away around 11am. The owner was so nice and worked through me not knowing Albanian. The sushi was great all things considered. The chunks of fish were large and the rice was quite good. It’s a bit more expensive, but I feel the quality is pretty good.
Caleb Hackett — Google review
♥️ Perfect!! The food is perfect. ♥️ The salad is excellent (iceberg with avocado+prawns). The sushi is magic, they are very generous on the salmon! (Could use more ginger on the side, but thats may be my taste only). Fried squid and prawns are amazing, too. The quantity is very good! It may be a detail, but they also added forks and napkins, which is logical for delivery food, but restaurants usually omit them. They speak very good English, so you wont have any problems ordering on the phone. The delivery is fast! You can pay by card even for delivery. Our food was for to go, so it doesn't look as on a white plate on a restaurant table, but when you imagine the taste, it is very presentable! I am usually strict when it comes to reviews, but this is worth it! Go try!
????????? — Google review
My experience at this restaurant left me with mixed feelings. While the service was excellent and the atmosphere was enjoyable, the food fell short of expectations. The seafood salad was below average, with preserved seafood that was difficult to chew, paired with an overly acidic sauce. The tom yam soup contained only two shrimps. The seafood pizza was just about edible. Despite these disappointments, I appreciated the nice atmosphere and enjoyed sitting outside. Overall, I would rate the restaurant three stars primarily for the service and atmosphere, but it would have been two stars if not for those aspects.
Eka Megrelishvili — Google review
Very nice restaurant, sushi were surprisingly good, but very weird serving - you don’t get to choose which sushi rolls you’ll get - it’s always an assortment. Marinated anchovies unfortunately we’re cooked and not raw how I was expecting them. Pasta with seafood is nice but the squid was cooked awfully

This restaurant is well located by the sea in Durres. I would comment the food by the category 1. The Vietnamese shrimp rolls were so taste and juicy 2. The bruschetta very nice too 3. The sea anti pasta for two was not so nice, the marinated sardines were tasty and also the tartuf shrimps and mushrooms. But the salad mix of sea food was very cold and the aroma of the pepper was everywhere in the food. 4. The sushi didn’t have any difference between them in their taste. So a no for me!! The service was great and the cleanliness too. The plates were well presented.

Very nice restaurant, with many tasty seafood offered, from 🐟 to 🦀 and 🍣. Tasty food and variety of dishes, pleasant atmosphere with very good service, located near the seaside and close to the Durres promenade. Recommend to visit. Prices are average, worth trying.

We ordered a plate of grilled seafood for two. The plate arrived with lots of crustaceans shells (empty) and hardly any food to eat; found 4 heads of prawn on first attempt to eat and two prawns only; they seem to garnish the plate with unedible food. I sent the plate back. Very bad experience. They think they can do this to tourists. Atmosphere is ok. Service is slow..

We had a lunch in this fabulous location just 15 min from the center of Durres. The view from the restaurant is amazing as amazing is the quality of the food. We spend around 15€ per person, very fair price. Absolutely worth the visit. The road is a bit tricky so just be careful to the directions. The only cons is the we received the pasta and the meat before the antipasti platter which we have to ask for but it could happen.
Marco Pitzalis — Google review
One of a lifetime experience :) the way to this restaurant is not easy and not every taxi can make it The food and the atmosphere is amazing!!! All traditional though very modern and like really - nice. Everything delicious!
Natasha Kulagina — Google review
Food: the antipasta plate is good. Traditional food with different flavours. The risotto is one of the worst risottos I ever tried, no souse, just dry rice with very small amount of sea food. The fish came with nothing which is shocking. Don’t order seafood here. Order meat instead Drinks: beer and wine is good. Serving: 45-1h to get the food. Absolutely ridiculous. The food did not come all together. It came one and one. The first and second dish were ice cold when the third dish came

Restaurant Rimini in Durres was very nice. Next to the sea. Indoor and outdoor seating. Menus had English imcluded and some staff spoke English. Had bruschetta, Tagliatelle with Salmon and Cream, and Tagliatelle with Seafood. The food was good, although the Tagliatelle in the salmon dish was slightly undercooked, the cream sauce was very tasty. Wait staff was friendly and nice.

Bad service and the food also, only the pizza is good here. My boyfriend had a pizza and I had the pasta with seafood… I waited for the pasta very much, he had the pizza first and I waited after him 20 minutes. Not good… we also waited a lot to get the order. I do not recommand this place, maybe just for the pizza.

Elegant place, staff is helpful, English speaking. We had octopus starter, fried squids starter, a portion of baked potatoes, 2 delicious fish soups, 2 small beers, 1 sorbet for around 17 euro. Portions were small, still it's clearly stated that they are starters, so no complaint, but the quality was good and well cooked. An advise: the sort of purea of potato to garnish the octopus was tasteless and didn't add any value to the dish. Bread was nothing special, so skip it if you are on a diet, not worthy. The fish soup was amazing, carrots cod and dill. Must try! Potatoes were tasty too! Overall a good place. I think I will go back to try the fish pasta.

Restaurant
Kodra e Kuajve is a pioneering agrotourism restaurant in Durres, offering a unique experience at the top of a hill with breathtaking views of the coast. The establishment features horse stalls and riding facilities alongside its cozy restaurant. It's considered one of the must-visit places in Albania, providing a relaxed atmosphere for visitors to enjoy horseback riding lessons and delicious meals.
Really lovely find, a short drive from our hotel. Tables surrounding a centre arena where horses were either exercised by staff or ridden by guests (children and adults). Good selection of food and loads of staff to make service good. Combine this with a hill top location and great views down the coast it's a local "must".

Great kitchen with wide range of food from traditional Albanian to see food. We really enjoyed thanks to low season. Unfortunately part of restaurant with wonderful view under construction when visiting. Not our last visit. 😉

The food is great and the view gorgeous. The service was fine and we even got a free desert.

I've been there for lunch and a short horse ride, so don't know about the rooms, but the building looks gorgeous, also well cared, clean, has huge very beautiful hall for the events with terrace. The restaurant has pretty interesting interior with big windows to the horses part and!!! - so delicious food 😋; service is on good level, there are waiters speak English well. The prices are reasonable, but, as I've checked, different (higher) from the menu on the website. Horses are very well cared, so clean, it costs 500leke to take a short (up to 10 min) ride with instructor who is happy to assist you with taking a few nice photos while riding, and the ticket for the ride you can buy to your waiter while enjoying your delicious lunch. That is definitely a place I would recommend to visit.

The food is fresh, special and delicious. Staff is very kind and the service was pleasant. What I liked the most were the horses. Completely another atmosphere from what we are used in Durres. The interior was very modern and calming. If you are lucky and go for an early dinner you can catch the most beautiful sunset

The place looks lovely, the view is georgeus however the service has dissapointed me because I had to take my own menu because the waiter was taking ages. The food I will rate as a standard of 4/10 .

This is the restaurant. This is far better food any five star hotel serve in Europe. We had best meat , chicken and sea food salad.Top quality of the food and service . Location , atmosphere and breath taking view . We would like to thank management and staff for allowing us staying our motorhome in their garden.

Love place with best view. Stuff friendly. Prices more expensive for Albanian ;) steak is not steak but dry slim slices of meat. They don’t know how to prepare steak.

We visited their restaurant with a great panoramic view of Golem & the Adriatic sea. Tasty meat dishes. I recommend stewed goat meat, probably the best I tried in Albania

Didn't stay at the hotel, but we've eated at their restaurant. The food is very tasty but quite pricy. If you want to eat there, stay away from the chicken fillet. It gave us a very nasty food poisoning. Nevertheless, the veal, lamb and goat are delicious and you really must try them.

This hotel in Albania is one of the best I've stayed at. It's really clean, and the restaurant is amazing. The food is delicious and unique. Plus, the view from the hotel is absolutely wonderful. I had a great visit and found it to be a relaxing and warm place. However, I do want to mention that during our stay, around midnight, my family and I were startled by the sound of gunshots. We were scared and didn't know what was happening. It turned out to be a traditional practice in Albanian weddings, but the hotel staff didn't inform us about it, which was disappointing.

The view is amazing. Quiet and peaceful on top of the hill looking over the coast line of Golem. Even though it was the middle of July a cool breeze was running through the entire patio. They also have horses but we weren’t much interested. The place wasn’t crowded at all. The food was great and we enjoyed every single dish (seafood products are *chef’s kiss*). But I think it was expensive. (~2000 leke/person no drinks)

We visited this restaurant yesterday and the location is outstanding! Unfortunately we only went for drinks and dessert, which were great, as we had previously eaten lunch. The whole place is beautiful, set on a hill above Durres, with panoramic views of the sea across Golem and the mountains with a lake behind. The enchanting thing we're the horses, kept beautifully and exercised in the training ring at the centre of the restaurant garden, which was great to watch under the shade of the awnings of the terrace in the surrounding garden. The horse and trainer were obviously enjoying each other's company playing. Would definitely recommend to give another relaxing perspective of the city!
