Specialty Museums
The Limburgs Museum in Venlo offers a journey through the natural and cultural history of the province of Limburg. The museum features themed rooms and multimedia exhibits that showcase the complete history, culture, and traditions of the region through a diverse collection of objects and exhibitions. Visitors can explore exhibits ranging from prehistoric times to post-Roman eras, as well as enjoy interactive displays on music, sound, and global differences.
Great museum with a collection suited for a broad audience. Restaurant has a limited, but very good selection. Ask for Gerardus Beer.
Ramon Moorlag — Google review
What a pleasant museum this is, with it's from neanderthal to post Roman exhibition. Also we enjoyed the music exhibition on sound, and music, and how it makes us feel, how it's been available, and the global differences, and an opportunity to make a rock video although I think this is meant for the kids not 6'4" adult males. 😁 There was also a small exhibition on Louis 14th and his relationship to the area. The architecture is interesting, and a good view of the Juliana park. There is a cafe available for a light snack and drinks if you require this during your visit. Although it is recommended that tickets are purchased online for a visit slot, we were fortunate it was quiet at the time of our visit, which we broke up with a visit to the cafe.

Small but nice museum, air conditioned. The music floor is very fun, there are activities inside.

i really enjoyed the exhibition The Sun King and the Prince of Orange (by the way its going to be held from10th June 2023 till 7th of January 2024). keep in mind, the exhibition is in German and Dutch only.
Svitlana Domanska — Google review
A very nice and interactive museum. They have „places“ for children on every floor so you have a good chance that even children under 4 stand the whole museum. You get a free drink per person in the cafe ( it has very fair prices compared to other museums)
Theo Sobieray — Google review
Next to the ticket office said i don't speak Dutch and promptly spoke English to me explaining all the exhibition spaces My congratulations to the entire organization of the museum because it is very interactive, simple and organized Very interesting space to take children to visit, because there are areas for them to play.

#32Venlo great location right across the road from the train station. Small shop and a nice cafe on ground floor. It was completely empty when I went to visit, even the cafe on a Saturday afternoon. Being so quite the prehistory display on level 1 was a bit eery! Second level had a lot of Christian art, very well laid out and displayed. Last floor had a lot about the provience of Limburg with lots of activities for kids. #railthetrails

Art Museums
Museum van Bommel van Dam in Venlo is a contemporary art museum founded by Maarten and Reina van Bommel-van Dam. Housed in a renovated old post office designed by renowned Dutch architects, the museum offers year-round exhibitions of drawings, sculptures, and paintings. The spacious and easily accessible venue features a fascinating exhibition by Atelier NL downstairs and a 50th-anniversary exhibit on the first floor.
Museum has just re-opened after a lengthy hiatus inside the old post office which hs been renovated by Dutch super Architects Bierman Henket . Downstairs with a fascinating exhibition by Atelier NL, a 50 jubilee exhibit on the first floor . The building is wonderfully renovated, lots of it is accessible to the public without having to buy a ticket, the Cafe' on the groundfloor just awesome, the furniture by Leolux and the guides superfriendly - even if I say so myself :-) The cafe' is a a light flooded space with first class coffee - aanwinst voor Venlo !
loola Realpirate — Google review
Without the first floor exhibition the museum has almost nothing else to see. If it wasnt for the view on the top floor or the sand room, its just a bunch of sofas. Super sad to see so much empty space that could be filled with local artists or students from the area. The service was super personalized and the best one I ever had.

The City Hall of Venlo is a must-see landmark and popular tourist attraction. Its stunning interior and exterior designs are a visual delight for visitors. Located in the Markt, the Old Town Hall offers beautiful architecture to admire while enjoying a drink. During Christmas, the area comes alive with festive decorations, including a magnificent tree in front of the building. The carefully placed lights highlight the architectural details even at night.
The Old Town Hall is a beautiful building that you can admire while you enjoy your drink at the markt. During Christmas time, the place is much more animated and in the front of the building you can make stunning pictures with the big Christmas tree that they organise each year. I like the fact that even at night, when there is little lighting, you can still notice details of the architecture due to careful placed lights which enhance the beauty of the Town Hall.

Catholic church

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Grote of Sint-Martinuskerk, Venlo is a must-see attraction in the city's old town. This historic church, dating back to 760 AD, has endured wars and natural disasters to stand as a stunning example of Roman-style architecture. The bell tower boasts an impressive 53 bells, making it one of the most extensive carillons in Europe. Inside, visitors can admire beautiful stained glass windows and exquisite woodwork altars from the 15th century.
'Zomerconcerten' - churchbells combined with electrical guitar!! Just noticed you can even request songs here
Sander P — Google review
St Martin's Basilica traces it's origin from 760AD and after surviving wars, fire and earthquakes is a beautiful example of Roman style churches. The bell tower with 53 bells is one of the largest in Europe. Located in Venlo city centre, the interiors are worth experiencing.
Saji — Google review
Disappointed. I have visited many churches around the world, but never encountered a closed door for such an important church and sight in a big place like Venlo drawing many tourists. Very disappointing these very limited opening hours and even closing 2 days all together.
Pedro de Pedra — Google review
The bells are far too loud! Limit your noise to the facility of the church, and everyone is happy. Why is your institution forcing every non-religious individual to be part of your traditions. It’s nothing less than a demonstration of the peerless power of your institution that doesn’t have to follow common right, tax policies or noise regulations and doesn’t even care that just a minority of the population actually wants to be part of this tradition. Not even 20% of the Dutch population is catholic, and less than 10% of them are regularly visiting religious gatherings. That means, that 360,000 people in the Netherlands are actually involved in the bells' tradition whereas 58% of the population (~11,000,000) consider themselves as non-religious, but are still forced to listen to it. Doesn’t sound very democratic! #BanChurchBells
El Dorado — Google review
Don't let the newer church-tower fool you, this is a real big medieval church. Dating back to the 15th century the highlights of this Gothic church are the beautiful glass-stained windows and the altars featuring amazing woodwork craftsmanship. Free entrance.

The restaurant Kwartelenmarkt 11 offers a delightful dining experience with a tranquil ambiance. The staff members are courteous and fluent in English, adeptly describing each dish in detail. The chef personally greets and engages with every visitor, ensuring personalized attention and enjoyable evenings. The menu boasts an array of delectable dishes, each distinguished by its unique flavor profile. Immaculate restrooms, multiple payment options (card and cash), and spacious cloakroom facilities add to the convenience of patrons.
Wonderful experience. Quiet atmosphere. Polite waiters who also speak English fluently and can describe in details every dish before you try it. Chef personally came to me and each other visitor to introduce himself, ask what you prefer at food and wish a nice evening. Tasty dishes, each one tastes different then another. Toilets are clean, you can pay by card and cash, spacy wardrobe.

I'd give this a 4.5* if I could. Really good value for money if you consider the price vs quality and quantity. I'd probably recommend a 3 or 4 course in total. Bread you pay extra so if you say yes to more just factor that in (€5 each). No menus and you can have the dishes knowing before what it is or as a surprise and they let you know at the table. Definitely recommend.

Ivan Stoev — Google review
A very fun experience. The concept of this restaurant is to always change the menu depending on season and local availability of vegetables, fruit etc. Therefore there is no menu, all the courses are set. Of course changes can be made for dietary restrictions. Since we do not have any we let the chef surprise us with a four course meal. Everything tasted great and it was exciting not to know what you were getting. Definitely not for fussy eaters, although my partner ate basically everything (even Brussel Sprouts), while he normally wouldn't even touch lettuce. Go there with an open mind and excited that you might be trying something new. Probably also not suitable for vegetarians and vegans.

Restaurant
The Tapas Bar called Eethuis Tante Toer is highly recommended for a visit. Although they do not have an English or German menu card, there is a hint on the card suggesting to ask a waiter for a Tapas Menu. By doing so, customers are pleasantly surprised with four rounds of delicious food at an unexpectedly affordable price. The cuisine, while tasty enough, may not be the most authentic in terms of their rijstafel dish.
Creative solutions to the -Venlo problem- In 2024, a group of colleagues found themselves stranded in a cozy yet strange restaurant in Venlo (Netherlands). What follows is the abstract of the problem they faced when ordering food. The menu on a black board consisted of two lists: tapas, and main dishes. When ordering, a distressed waitress had to clarify that, unfortunately, each table could either order tapas or main dishes, but never both. The reason was not given and exceptions never accepted. International Experts have come up with a list of creative solutions that are meant to circumnavigate such problems in different scenarios. Scenario A - full house After taking votes, all comrades agree on sharing either tapas or main dishes. The dilemma is easily solved. Scenarios B - failed elections In which a comradeship should find itself agreeable to both tapas and main dishes equally, and would therefore fail to find a voting majority. B1 - separatists The group splits into minor groups, depending on tapas or dishes preferences. The two groups shall dine separately and pay separately. B2 - coalitions The group splits on minor groups but with the secret intention of sharing all food. In this nasty scenario, the two tables secretly divert their own half-eaten food to the others without being seen. Both tables should taste both tapas and main dishes. Bills are separated and regulated apart. B3 - exclusion A lucky vast majority preference is established. Only one person, not agreeing on the chosen food, shall dine alone in a different table. This might create further social friction. B4 - diversion The table finds a loophole in the system. Convincing the waitress to serve both menus in one table as long as Two different bills are produced. The kitchen therefore will think of serving two different parties. C - fugue The group elopes the restaurant at fast pace.

We kwamen hier toevallig binnenwaaien op weg naar een voorstelling in de Maaspoort. De gezellige sfeer en vriendelijke bediening vielen meteen op. Very nice Tapas Bar, I definately recommend a visit. Since there was no english or german menu card, I was a little lost. BUT I found a hint in the card that you should ask a waiter for a Tapas Menu what I did. I paid for water and this very satisfying menu only around 25 €.

Bediening denkt mee . Kortom hele leuke avond gehad . Een aanrader (Translated by Google) What a nice cozy place to eat. We made a reservation in advance and I think that was wise for a Saturday. We had 2 x soto soup and 2 x Thai fish soup (we were 4 adults?). As a main course the choice menu ... a selection of tappas where the kitchen had taken my allergy to tomatoes into account. And the dessert 2 x cheese board and a tiramisu and churos with stroopwafel ice cream. It is not haute cuisine but the dishes have good taste and portions are very good. Service is thoughtful. The food was very good, the starter too, the desert was delicious. The staff were very friendly and constantly checked up if everything was ok and if we were enjoying our food. The reason for 4 stars is that the place itself is very tight and close with the other tables and you cannot even speak with the person sitting next to you without shouting the whole evening. A lot of speaking noise.

Restaurant Chez l'Hêtre is a wonderful establishment that offers a delightful surprise menu. Their four dishes are all delicious and offer a wide variety of flavors. The location is beautiful and the food is delicious. However, I do not appreciate that we had to wait 40min in the lounge area before we were seated at our table. Even though I had a reservation. Also, the time between the courses took too long. I can not imagine how much time people spent there when taking all 7 courses. We left after 3 and we will probably not visit again. Last but not least, all the waiters are very young and awkward.

The dishes were generally excellent with the exceptional experimental miss . Service depended on the waiter . The young lady was very friendly but the two young gentlemen were oldfashionedly haughty . However our evening ended very unpleasantly because of some guests. A drunken group took their coffee next to us and they were incredibly loud. I guess they were asked to move there because they were annoying the neighbouring tables in the restaurant's central area but it spoiled the experience for us ( we were sitting in a nook of the restaurant). I would also recommend they hang their lamps higher, as tall people will otherwise find them looking at the hood of the lamp instead of their dinner partner

The place looked very promising for a nice night out. The food is really good and the waiters polite. Unfortunately we had to leave after the 1st course, the waiting time was way too long. We arrived at 7:30pm and at 8:45pm we were only served with the first meal of the menu, at this speed we would finish at midnight. As we were here for travelling this was not possible.

An excellent place. We decided to take a surprise menu and all 4 dishes were tasty and very versatile. Combination of vegetables, fish, meet and a very light and tasty desert. The meet was done to perfection with a very nice sauce. Dishes are in the exact right portion. The only remark is they added couscous to the fish. This is NOT. It is a pasta. Couscous is a different thing. Service was very good.

Café De Klep in Venlo has an interesting backstory behind its name, as it is derived from the traditional lid on a beer glass, known as "klep." Additionally, the word "kleppen" in the local dialect means drinking. The friendly staff at this restaurant provided exceptional hospitality and even offered insights into the history of their beer. While there is no English menu available, they are more than willing to explain their selection to customers.

The place where you can eat the most delicious croquettes & drink amazingly good beer. The staff is friendly, speaks English. I highly recommend. Would love to visit again!

This place is magical. Tasty food, verrrry tasty beer that hits hard :) (A lot of beers are over 5-6%, but very tasty). But the most important thing is atmosphere. You get the vibe here :) We will come again, thanks 💛

The hospitality of the staff was amazing. They even gave me a little journey in history about the origin of their beer. The food was also very delicious and even though they do not have an english menu, I am sure they will be happy to explain their selection to you. They have a German menu though.

Great atmosphere, feels really authentic. Good price for the quality and taste. I had BIO beef & 3 kinds of beer and all was 10/10. Suitable for beer connoisseurs. Coffee they serve is Blanche Doel, top stuff from Maastricht. Toilets clean as it gets. Two guys who helped me were very cool. Thanks.
