The noted naturalist was born in this humble home, now a museum dedicated to his life & work.
Best museum ever! Really inspiring. Three floors, going through John Muir's life chronologically. Easy to read panels, photographs, plus some videos. Some interactive displays & a fun quiz. A must see if you love being outdoors, in nature, interested in conservation, & beautiful prose, or history in general. What a man! The museum really captures who he was; & it's free.

Excellent! Kids really enjoyed the visiting attraction, I got a great opportunity to learn about the great naturalist & explorer.
Peter Gaston — Google review
Excellent museum - although the building is original, the interior is a modern museum rather than a mock-up of what it would have been like. The information is very well presented, and the two staff that I spoke to were friendly and helpful. And entry is free.

Amazing! Loved it. Lots of info on John Muir - the fire places are just awesome

A fantastic museum. Take about 30 mins to see everything

Interesting place with excellent biography of John Muir. Determined and interesting character. Worth a visit.

Very nice memorial to John Muir. The 3 levels of museum were really interactive and well made. I'm a native Californian and outdoors enthusiast, so this place is a memorial to one of my heroes!

Meh museum 3 floors but very small there is a lift and toilets and its free but only so much to see in it

Very informative and inspiring museum. Yes, it is small but there is lots of information inside! Definitely worth a visit.

Stunning museum in Dunbar! Learnt so much about John Muir, truly inspiring.
David Flecher — Google review
We were thrilled to see such a comprehensive exhibit as we are from Martinez, California and share the John Muir legacy. Our dear friend Will Collin and the team at the birthplace have done a wonderful job with both the permanent and rotating exhibits. Well done!!

A most interesting story of the remarkable life of a man born here who emigrated to America and who was a pioneer of the appreciation of and preservation of nature and wild places

Wonderful museum, inspiring and informative about a great man. Lovely volunteer guide. Very apt for our times. Loved it. Free, but important to give what donation you can to keep it going.

Was only there for a night but everything was amazing. The toilet block was very clean for a campsite toilet and it just seemed nice and organised. Would consider coming again.

Nice little site with friendly people. We were in a static for a few nights in November so can't really comment on the camping facilities. Our van was great, well appointed, lovely and cosy and about 30% bigger than the statics I use to stay in as a kid. The location is peaceful next to the beach but s short drive or regular bus into town. The Brigg and Barrel pub nearby is great for food
Mark Ireland — Google review
Brilliant place..... staff friendly and the place was spotless The pods are in a perfect spot and its a sun trap 😁 they had everything you need and a lovely fire pit. The location is amz too, right on beach my pups are knackered 😴 short walk for pub lunch and John muir Park a 15min walk away for kid's or 10 min drive for foxlake. I just loved this place and I'll defo be back 😁

Unfortunatley it rained for 1.5 of our 2.5 days that is uncontrollable by the park owners, however during that time we sat relaxing in our campervan & walked our dog around the park,& every member of staff from the receptionist to the shower block valet lady to the maintenance guy working in the rain always greeted us with a smile & hello, the whole park is perfect, the other campers that were there had respect, they cleaned the showers after use ready for the next as we do,inbetween the valet lady doing her daily clean, same went for anyone that has used the kitchen facility it was immaculate all day every day,we woke both mornings to the sound of a little chaffinch on our door mirror pecking at the glass!,lovely view from the bay car park just behind the site,& nice walk into Dunbar if you need a few bits,or the bus stops are just outside the site, dont hesitate about staying at this site,we will be coming back soon!!we tried to book there other site tantallon for easter but we were to late ☹️,hope you enioy your stay as much as we did.

Fantastic beach, parking is £2.50 all day. There are toilets. There is also a food truck, which is good and a fair price.
Mark Holmes — Google review
Great place in good weather. It would be a good place to be at night for star gazing and seeing the aurora boriais if it wasn't for the crazly and unnecessarily bright lights.
Paul — Google review
First time out with our new motor home. Lovely site. Toilet block, showers, food prep area for campers and laundry available. All clean. A few minutes walk to the seafront with an easy walk to Dunbar or east links beach walks. Dog friendly. Price maybe on the higher side but it’s a great spot!
Lyn Irvine — Google review
We namely booked this site for the facilities for 1 night as it was at the very end of our trip. The website advises that check-in is open from 2pm, but no mention of closing time. Luckily this wasn't an issue as there was a box near reception with pitch details in for us to pick up, but this was about as good as it got. Laundry facilities, which we had been hoping to use, closed at 5pm (unlike the previous site we were at which was open overnight and closed during the quiet daytime period) which meant we still had wet clothes unable to dry out after a day's walking. We followed the site map to the tent area, only to find 2 motorbikes blocking the one entry/exit point. We almost didn't spot our pitch as someone from the next one was sat in the space, and the pitches were annoyingly close together so we could hear every conversation from others. Not to mention a fire risk! Park rules were blatantly ignored as children were playing football in the tent area and this did hit our tent at one point, for which we received no apology. When initially checking the shower block, at least a couple smelled of urine so we had to wait for a cleaner smelling one to become available before we were able to use them. After an already long few days away this was a disappointing end to our trip, and unfortunately we couldn't wait to leave. dont waste your money on this Sh**t hole
Christopher Morrow — Google review
Mixed review, beach is close but no views, toilets & facilities plenty of space&clean, but the odd shower cold!! Asked for a quite spot.... Was put next to a park even mentioned not keen on booking, but TOLD it'll be quite, however lots of families,I only booked week before!! WAS noisy, difficult getting toddler down for aftrernoon naps, esp when guys on machine cutting grass (cut empty pitches surely or when people out!!)and kids playing in park & footy right outside, so spoilt our stay, when there was other empty spots the whole stay !!!

First time visiting and loved it. Caravan was warm, clean and welcoming. A lovely quiet friendly site, minutes walk to the beach plus dog friendly pub down the road. Staff are friendly and helpful too, can’t fault it. Highly recommended.
Dawn Etheridge — Google review
Easy fine stars for Belhaven. Started well with a very friendly and helpful welcome at reception. Things only improved from there. Facilities are spotless, really spotless. Showers in particular worth a big mention because the design gives you loads of space - each cubicle has a lovely hot shower, seat, sink and toilet. All lovely and warm too. Probably too nice as you're inclined to spend ages in there. Pitches on the park are decent, if not huge, but plenty of space to manoeuvre. Location is pretty much on the beach, and there's a short walk to the nearest pub. Downtown Dunbar is about 20 mins walk, and scenic if you take the coast route. Other highlights are on site kitchens which seem to have everything for catering, nice blend of tent, touring and static pitches, easy emptying and servicing of water and waste is really well thought out. All in all, one of the best UK sites I've visited and highly recommended.

The castle is next to the harbour. There is a Old building that has a couple of old cannon's which are know made out of wood as the original ones are in Edinburgh Castle. The kids loved it as there is a timeline in stone telling you about the place in the path.
David Lightfoot — Google review
Went late and there wasn't much we could see. Just had a quick walk through the ruins. It's a very nice town though.
Nayon Sultan — Google review
Worth a look as the harbour is pretty cool. Not much left of the castle but it must have been an epic fortress during the wars of independence.
Gazzofication — Google review
It's just a ruin that you can't get near. The setting of the castle is nice and very close to the quiet town. Small free carpark
Becky D — Google review
If you're expecting a site that you can walk around, you'll be extremely disappointed. There's not even that much to look at as most of it was blown up in 1869 to enlarge the harbour. It is also off limits to the public as it is dangerous and crumbling into the sea.
Hitman H — Google review
Very quaint and beautiful place to wander around. A working fishing harbour where you can see the lobster boats coming in and unloading. The town itself is beautiful too.
Gary King — Google review
A lovely place to visit in Dunbar, the site has free parking available. There is a nice walk to see the seagulls with their chicks, the fishing boats and much more amazing views.
Patri Arteaga D — Google review
Historic castle and a working harbour. Very pleasant area to explore and relax in. Lots of information boards giving the history of the area. Well worth a visit if you're in the area.
Colin Reay — Google review
This is an old ruined castle sitting right over Dunbar harbour when we were there there was limited access, probably due to a lack of safety maintenance work during the COVID pandemic. The Castle is associated with a great Scottish Patriot The Countess of Dunbar (Black Agnes) who defended the castle with limited resources against an English siege army in 1338 during the second war of Scottish Independence.
Alan Holt — Google review
Lovely quaint Harbour and last remains of Dunbar Castle. Small garden over looking sea was lovely too.

As well as being a fantastic viewpoint for miles of coast from St Abbs Berwickshire to The Bass Rock and beyond, The Battery has become a great summer venue for many musical and art mediums. IT’s amphitheatre atmosphere gives the venue an almost spiritual feel.
Billy Main — Google review
This was our first time visiting the Battery since its opening in 2017. A spectacular setting and a great stage for the local community to use and for local exhibitions, such as the current John Muir exhibition. Our kids loved playing with the mirror boxes and 'performing' on the stage. Definitely a highlight for our visit, along with the wonderful harbour and castle.

Interesting enough restored gun battery which was used for defenses in the Napoleonic wars and was attacked twice during the American war if independence. Takes half an hour to wander around and take in the gorgeous views.

1h from city centre of Edinburgh... Still well worth to drive!!! My favourite pool... my little daughter absolutely loves this one! You should see her face when waves signal is sound! Highly recommended for toddlers!
Sebastian Kraus — Google review
This is such a fun pool for kids & adults, it has the wave machine going on every hour & half hour & it has a long flume shute but non swimmers can't go on it. It does have a couple of things for toddlers & it has a bubble area in the pool as well. My only problem is that it could do with another disabled changing cubicle but all in all it's a great place to take your kids.
Heather Henderson — Google review
Kids love this pool which has a flume, wave machine and toddler area. And a cafe where you can spectate. Family changing rooms are really hand with small kids in tow.
Katherine Galliard — Google review
Easily the best family leisure pool around Edinburgh. Flume and wave machine. Kids always ask to go back here more than the others we have tried. Practical pool side cafe. Front desk staff helpful. Busy at peak times. Top tip, drop the kids off and go for a coffee cake and a shop on Dunbar high Street. Sunday afternoon done.
Mark McNaught — Google review
Myself and my wife went here and it's a brilliant pool with a flume and wave machine with a large shallow end for those with toddlers or babies. One downside is that the pool is unheated and there isn't a dedicated heated baby pool which meant our 12 month old daughter only lasted about 30 minutes before she got too cold and we had to leave. Still an enjoyable experience and we all had fun.
John Fleck — Google review
Great place to take the kids. It can get busy, so arrive early or expect to queue. Waterslide and wave machine will keep kids busy and there is a shallow area for younger kids/babies. The only negatives are the tiny change rooms and the undrinkable coffee ☕️ at the poolside cafe.
Scott McBay — Google review
If you actually want to swim at a time that suits you its impossible as there are no dedicated spaces between the kids jumping in, and families throwing balls. Some behaviour notices would be great; or maybe 'swimmers have right of way'. I'm not that much of a cummugeon as it's great to see kids enjoying themselves and learning to swim, but as an adult swimmer I felt in the way and unconsidered.
Linda Alexander — Google review
Lovely staff. Large car park. Scenic views.
Lynette Bm — Google review
Great pool and kids enjoyed the wave machine and small slides (not old enough for the flume yet). Fairly clean and well kept considering the number of people using the facility although changing areas had some litter. Very busy at the weekend though so be prepared to wait up to 30 mins to get in!
Malcolm Findlay — Google review
It's great to have a pool to swim in,we're so lucky to have this on our doorstep. However, it's also great to have one with a usable flume, not forgetting the wave machine. Good changing area and shower.
Gavin Wilson — Google review
Tried phoning to book health suite before arrival..this was at 910am but kept ringing out, tried 3 times with no answer so decided to turn up and see if we can get in. 2 reception staff chatting and finished their conversation before noticing us waiting. Got to the health suite which was looking old and shabby no water as out of order. The sauna done its job.
Marc Forrester — Google review
Mixed feelings about this place tbh Pros:- *Relaxed life guards with regards to jumping in. *cheap entry. *ample parking Cons:- *Dirty uncleaned facilities, worst I have ever experienced. *Staff are rude and one woman was stinking and covered in dirt all over her uniform, actually really disgusting! *Everything is outdated. *They force you to buy a token instead of offering change for lockers, absolutely shameful in this current cost of living crisis tbh. *They jam pack the place so you don't actually get to swim rather you bob from one place to another. Visited once and never went back in the week we were visiting as the cons outweighed the pros 🤷‍♂️
Wayne n co. — Google review
On Sunday, we attended Dunbar splash pool - my Partner's Son fell and burst his chin open (which was obviously a mistake) & the lifeguard was right in front of it happening. As you can imagine, it was very stressful without needing to approach the lifeguard myself to ask for a tissue & help from first aid, I emailed to make a complaint for the future with this being a family pool the lifeguards help should be stepped up a little. I have had 0 correspondence which I think is shocking. I love this pool, but seriously has been a major let down!
Holly — Google review
Great swimming pool, wave machine and flume. Our kids love it here. Changing area could do with more attention. Floor is very slippy and my daughter slipped and hit her head off a locker today. It was very busy today.
Karina Maxwell — Google review
Amazing place. Located in a beautiful location, on the beautiful seaside, surrounded with beautiful castle ruins and deep history. We took children for a swim, swimming pool is open to public, just walk in.

pool was awesome we was visting 2 time and definitely back again
Lukasz Urzykowski — Google review
We have visited here a lot. I think it has great potential but is gradually needing more repairs that haven't been done. The small slide is great for younger kids. The big slide great for able swimmers. Kids love the wave machine. The snail and flag water things haven't worked for a long time. Lately the bubbles have stopped working. And the water spout now not working. On the last 2 visits. The plastic mats you walk on to get to showers are cracked and falling apart in places. The vents in the loo were very dusty. The family change smelt of urine from the bin (I think). There were several plasters on the walkway down to the pool. I highlighted this and was cleaned up. I think with repairs and some better cleaning this would be better place to visit.
Emma B — Google review
Disappointed. Drove here from Edinburgh with my toddler after hearing how good the kids' facilities were. Website and pool timetable completely incomprehensible so tried to call twice to check opening times, no answer each time. Timetable showed lessons from 3:30 but arrived find the whole pool closed at 3pm for swimming lessons. No indication on website or timetable that whole pool closes for lessons. The two memebrs of staff on reception could not have been less interested and just directed me to the incorrect information on their website. Cue toddler metldown when told he can't go swimming, lady on reception just shrugged amd turned away. Awful service which is a shame because the facilities looked good through the glass.

The Rocks is a relaxed cliff-top hotel with wonderful views of the sea. It offers private dining and seating, as well as a seafood restaurant and beer garden. It also has wheelchair access and serves alcohol.
What a superb location, great view from room 5. Decent sized room, nice and clean and big super comfy bed. Staff lovely. Served tasty food. ☹️ bedside lamps - no good for reading, not enough light.
Shona Ross — Google review
We were here just over a week ago. There was a warm friendly atmosphere in the bar (we had the dog with us) partly due to the log fire which was very inviting. Staff were efficient and friendly but the food let them down. The starters of goats cheese and beetroot and soup were ok, although the soup was rather thick. My main meal of steak and chips with onion rings was tasteless and the chips and onion rings were burnt black! I asked for replacements and was told by the young female server that they were black because they were triple cooked! I couldn’t believe my ears. Nevertheless, she did bring me another portion of chips but not onion rings? I ate the chips and fed the steak to the dog as he prefers unseasoned meat. My husband had fish pie which he said was ok. A young man approached us and was interested in our experience and past experiences of the Rock’s. He removed the starters from our bill and apologised for our experience. He said that he was from the sister restaurant and was taking complaints very seriously. He assured us that we would see a difference the next time we visit. I hope so, because the prices are for quality, not what we were served. We will wait a while before we go back. However, we will return to give the restaurant a second chance.

We stayed there for two nights the hotel is located in a nice place . The food was lovely the big problem is there is no staff you are left to your own devices . It stated breakfast first morning yes second there was no staff at all I just left my key on counter and checked my self out. Its a shame because could be a very busy hotel if run right.
Lukei Boy Mcghee — Google review
We stayed for 2 nights mid-week on an Itison deal. Was a bit apprehensive after some of the reviews, however we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was a bit odd as there were not many guests and very few staff. One staff member, Janie seemed to be there most of the time and appeared to do everything except cook. When Janie wasn't there, there were no staff, the front door was locked (you got a key.) She was very friendly, helpful and professional, despite having much to deal with. There were a couple of issues - non delivery of food and a plumbing emergency which closed the kitchen, but she dealt with this professionally and overcame the problems despite some irate guests. The food we did get was fabulous! Dinner was delicious. As was the cooked breakfast, the best Eggs Benedict I've ever eaten, and my partner said black pudding was the best he's ever had. The hotel is situated a ten minute walk from the centre of Dunbar with beautiful views over the coast and golf course. Lovely coastal path next to the hotel. The hotel grounds could do with tidying up a bit but the hotel itself was clean and tidy. The reception was not always manned, there were no staff there overnight. This didn't bother us at all. The room was nice enough, comfortable with a good shower and plenty of hot water. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely go back.

Booked table three days in advance for Easter dinner for six at five thirty. On arrival told by surly staff that no table available. Told to go to bar where bar staff said they ere too busy to serve us. Eventually told table was ready. Shown into breakfast room with six by twelve table with a bit of cutlery thrown on table. So had to almost shout to speak to each other Asked why no dining room staff said only table for six taken and couldn’t put smaller tables together? Some food eg undercooked steak pie was inedible, even chips (which are an additional charge) were undercooked. Fish pie measly to say least. My daughter ordered herb tea was told none available-other waitress said it was. Service continued to be surly and unwelcoming. At no time was there any apology offered. Had my family not travelled from west to meet up and I from Toronto -I would have left. Altogether the worst dining experience ever. All this for a mere 160 pounds! I contacted hotel next day but no reply. Utterly unacceptable.

That was bad. Had them 5 stars but now.... Booked for Sunday roast. Told them there would be a vegetarian. Got there and no vegetarian options except extra vegetables. Lucky I had the rice and pea risotto 🤢. The two roasts were little bit of chicken and mash. No puddings, roasts potatoes or cauliflower and cheese ( wasn't told before it arrived) glad I didn't ask for the vegetarian option, that's a lot of mash. Didn't hang around for the children's party list of desserts. Staff were miserable. On top of everything had to argue that we didn't have a bottle of wine. Bad evening out.

We dropped in last minute for lunch, and they could fit us in. I would advise making reservations though. The portions were perfect, the food damn tasty, and the service excellent. They made the bold claim of having the world's best olives. I don't know about that, but they were really good!
Bob Palmer — Google review
Despite being excited to stay at the hotel the service and lack of communication when attempting to receive a refund or change of date for my stay. I have attempted to contact the hotel on 5 different occasions the first one being 5 days before my stay to attempt to change the date due to a death in the family and having to travel 500 miles away at last minute. This is truly disappointing and unacceptable.
Aisling Baker-Ford — Google review
If you're thinking about booking the restaurant, don't. We waited 45 minutes for the starter and gave up after 1hr45mins and left. We were charged for the drinks and starters despite the fact their incompetence ruined what should've been a celebration. Our booking was made weeks in advance and confirmed the day before. We were told that there was another large party in and 1 person in the kitchen. Staff were totally unapologetic and had a total lack of understanding that there was 3 young children in our party. I emailed (no answer on the phone) to express my disappointment and it went unanswered. Poorly staffed, poorly managed and poorly executed.
Philip L — Google review
We didn't stay in the hotel. We booked for an evening meal. The food was VERY mediocre - pub chain food NOT Gastro.....Only four options of main course available:- Fish and Chips, Burger, Steak or Veg shepards pie.........Two different couples left before their food arrived - both had been waiting over an hour for their food to arrive with no explanation. A third couple paid and said the whole experience had been a shambles.........Our food did arrive in a timely manner but was greasy and not at all inspiring. I ordered a pint of soda and lime - I was served a small glass with so much ice there was little liquid in it. If we had paid full price for the meal and drinks (we had a voucher) the bill would have come to almost £68............Will not be going back any time soon.

The Creel is an exquisite restaurant with a modern European cuisine that is locally sourced. The chef is amazing and the dishes are delicious, fresh, and stunning in taste. The starters are perfect, the main courses are perfect, and there is nothing that can be faulted about this place. The waitstaff are attentive and kind, and the atmosphere of the restaurant is lovely. I would highly recommend this venue to anyone looking for a fantastic night out!
One of the best restaurants in East Lothian. Seriously - relaxing atmosphere, friendly service and unique food. The cod with curry and coconut is a must! Highly recommended. Fingers crossed they'll get the Michelin star anytime soon :)

Fresh, flavoursome food which is beautifully presented by a really friendly and professional team. This cosy restaurant offers a warm, hospitable welcome. It has a great menu featuring wonderful, fresh local ingredients alongside a really well thought- out and varied wine list. Service is both friendly and highly professional. Nothing seems to be too much trouble and the team can answer any questions you might have about the menu. Highly recommended!

Great quality food. One of the nicest lobsters I've eaten. Service was great & very personable. Scollaps very tasty, thought could have been a little bigger, & dessert arguably slightly over-priced, but overall very happy. We will return without question next time we're in the area.

It was our first visit at The Creel in Dunbar and we were delighted by the fine food there. I had the Seasonal Asparagus wrapped in Parma Ham which was fresh and delicious. I followed this up with the Pork Belly in gravy with mash and carrots, this was mouth watering and just melted away in the mouth. The service was friendly and speedy with excellent wine choices. The atmosphere was quite intimate also helped by the historic surroundings of the dining area. If you are in East Lothian a stop at The Creel in Dunbar is highly recommended

Tasty dishes, gorgeous flavours, yum! Your chef is amazing! Been for dinner and was blown away with the flavours and the freshness of the ingredients in our dishes. Wow, we left happy. Starters were perfect, mains were perfect couldn't fault this place. I never imagined cod could be so tasty and delicious. Everything cooked to perfection from scratch so be patient you won't regret it. We booked again to return a second night but sadly had to cancel but we will return! Wonderful place brilliant service with extras and atmosphere. Thank you!

I was disappointed with the food, especially after reading previous reviews. My starter was very poor quality scallops and my main that was a "special" was a very bland roll of lemon sole filled with crab in a sauce not dissimilar to Young's fish in a bag. However the restaurant has a lot of promise if they get the food quality to where it should be. though they have no real competition for the style of food in the area. It has a formal setting and an old world feel.

We came passing through with a tiny appetite and received big smiles and service. Such generous staff, lovely food and atmosphere. An example for excellent and most of all heart felt hospitality and love of good food and guests. Thank you.

Excellent food off the main menu particularly the sea trout, the special of monkfish wrapped with Parma ham was a tad dry though. We tried most of the starters and the monkfish was our favourite. Service was great too and fairly fast, helped by there only being a couple tables (would definitely book). The dining room was historic and charming apart from the jug to catch a leak and the two wine fridges and chargers with bright lights which made it feel a bit cramped. Would recommend highly in the area.

This is such a delightful restaurant. Small place by the harbour. Lovely panelled room. The service is a lovely combination of formality and friendliness. They judge it perfectly. The food is terrific. Excellent produce done well. Impossible to find fault. Congratulations.

Lovely place!! Our party of six all had six different mains and they were all delicious! Seriously. Amazing. Food! The service was amazing and friendly! Intimate atmosphere and good vibes all round. Definitely worth the price, would recommend! (Couldn’t wait to take photos before we tucked in!)

Incredible, been a few times now and by far the best restaurant in Dunbar and probably East Lothian. I've yet to find a restaurant I'd rank better in Edinburgh & The Lothians.

Well, to be honest, I did not expect that. My friend told me, it’s a great place with good food. But I have to say it was excellent food. The starters was Carpaccio great taste, nicely arranged. Main course incredible with an awesome gravy. Dessert a variety of cheese. Only the Brie was a little bit to weak to stand against the others. Good service, I think her name was Morna? She did a great job with the recommendation of the wine. And I think, it’s not to expensive. I love that place.

Bustley little bistro just near the harbour. Limited but delightful lunch menu with two course set price, plus the option of specials, such as lobster. Very professional service staff and superbly presented food. Really great fish options.

Italian restaurant
Umberto's is a popular spot in Dunbar, known for its delicious and satisfying Italian cuisine. The restaurant offers a variety of options, including breaded mushrooms with garlic sauce and flavorful bruschetta that comes highly recommended. Customers praise the friendly and professional staff, as well as the welcoming atmosphere. Many visitors appreciate the perfect pizza dough and the option to enjoy half pizza and half pasta.
We always come here for meal when we visit Dunbar. Pizza dough is perfect. We love option half pizza half pasta. Kids menu available. Place with nice atmosphere. Very friendly staff.

Absolutely annoyed at the service. You pay them money for a takeaway and then they tell you to wait outside until it's ready. You know how cold it is outside and we waited too long outside. Never again the service was atrocious. If your that bothered about COVID close shop then. It's supposed to have eased but this one's taking it seriously

Not Umbertos now, just a really bad coffee bar? Totally clueless in how to run it, we sat next to a young family, our order had been taken and so had theirs 30 minutes earlier but not even their or our coffees had arrived so she went to ask and both they and us left, we went to Cafe Central across and round the corner, now they know how to run a business, brilliant staff, and great coffee ☕ too

One of the most disappointing restaurants I’ve been to in a long time. Literally just 5 pasta dishes on the menu for main courses, that’s it, unless you count a selection of filled rolls. You have to reach over the head of fellow diners to refill your own soft drinks. There were three unaccompanied children in the window seats behind us, possibly the proprietors children, all playing video games and music at full volume on various mobile devices and shouting at each other. Food we ordered (spag bol)was average at best and I felt sorry for the two young girls who were the only waiting staff there, running around like headless chickens. Really the only redeeming feature of the visit was the small bill at the end, less than £20 for two mains, a soft drink and a beer.

Popped in today for a light lunch. We had the breaded mushrooms and garlic sauce along with a portion of Bruschetta. Although the restaurant was busy, the service was great. The staff were very friendly as was the chef (owner?) Robbie who came to check we were satisfied with the food, which we were. The bruschetta especially is a dish I would recommend. All in all a 5 star experience and we will definitely return the next time we visit Dunbar.

Food was good and service too. Nice place with plenty of pasta dishes, not too many vegetarian options though. Very tasty coffee and I loved the soup. Pizza was a bit tasteless but just maybe because it was meat-free.

One diner shared their experience on Tripadvisor about The Black Agnes Gastropub, praising the delicious and remarkable food. They mentioned visiting the restaurant multiple times during their weekend in Dunbar and expressed a desire to return in the future. The portion sizes were ample, providing good value for money. The fish and chips were described as perfectly crispy and fresh, while the mac and cheese was considered satisfactory but lacked excitement compared to other dishes.
Fantastic late Lunch...last had the pate for Xmas Day it's that good. We all had Steaks or the trio of Chicken sizzler with all the trimmings. Great Value and service

The food was hot and the staff was really friendly. The food generally lacked salt. The pastriy for the pie slightly smelled of burnt oil. However, the meat was succulent and nicely prepared. The prices are reasonable and the food is hearty. Considering the overall experience, I would visit again.

After reading other reviews on here I was expecting a cozy spot for a tasty lunch, but unfortunately instead I got a drab room with mediocre food. Decor was grey and depressing. Food was not worth the price. I had the fish and chips - the batter was pale and the chips tasted like they were cooked from frozen. I asked for sauce and was given one sad solitary packet. Not worth £15 in the slightest.

My wife and myself decided that the pub looked OK, so took a gamble. We were in for a surprise. The landlady was brilliant, very friendly and helpful. The food was excellent, the best pub grub I have ever had. When we left I shook the chef's hand, what a wonderful cook. If you're in the area, go in, you won't be disappointed. 5 STAR 🌟

We walked in for lunch after a visit to Dunbar. Busy little restaurant so lucky to time it for a table. A great choice of good quality pub food. Chicken with black pudding and haggis was delicious.

Definitely a nice local place for a big dinner. The portion was very generous and I must admit that I struggled eating it all. You certainly get your moneys worth here! The fish and chips were perfectly crispy and fresh. Mac and cheese was good, but not as exciting. The bar next door was perhaps more "cozy" in it's decor, but I found the restaurant clean and with friendly staff.

If i could give no stars i would. Walked in to ask about getting a table for 2 to be greeted with "We are shut" no hello or anything. Would maybe suggest you have a look at the way you talk to people. E.g "Hi, So sorry but we are unfortunately closing" might have been a better way to word it. 😐

We had a really great experience at the Black Agnes. We arrived on our way up to Dundee and had our little dog and two children with us. The staff were really friendly and accommodating with us. We sat on a table near the back and recieving excellent service. My wife had the stake and Ale Pie which was really good wholesome homemade food really well cooked. I had the scampi as I was in a seaside town. Again it was really well cooked and tasty. Our daughter's had sausage and chips and fish and chips of the kids menu. Food was reasonably priced. All the locals were really friendly too and made us feel welcome. We will definitely stop in again on our next visit to Scotland.

Nice wee restaurant with friendly helpful staff fast efficient service. A limited menu but all that you could wish for in starter's and mains but very little sweets available. I had the battered fish which was well cooked and enjoyable. There was a good selection of drinks available, unfortunately only instant coffee available, maybe invest in a coffee machine even just a small tassimo machine would have made a difference. All in all a nice wee restaurant with excellent food.

It pleasantly surprised patrons with its availability of Budvar on tap. The staff and regulars are amiable, creating a warm atmosphere. A great old pub. Lovely to sit outside when the weather is good, perfect to hide inside when it's not. Foods superb, beers fantastic and they're dog friendly.

No stars as the food was the worst I have ever had in my life. sausage and mash. No words to describe the solidified good that was passed off as mash! It was served with a MUG of tinned peas poured all over the top. All I saw was a bowl of peas in front of me. DISGUSTING!!! Hard nose manager trying to discuss my complaint over the bar with me in front of customers. Devoid of all manners Indignant that I complained, she said she 'has never had a complaint before'. ( then read all the reviews then). The startee made me feel sick and when I mentioned it, this woman replied that she likes it..( thick goo jelly poured over a started salad) Worse, this woman (said she owned the place) served a customer who had a small dog sitting on top of the tables customers eat from. Ientioned this too her and she replied she didn't see the dog. Really? As you served the food? Dogs jumping up at me as I was trying to eat and she refuted everything and finger pointed. Meal was Def the worst I have ever had and I felt sick. A mug of tinned peas poured on the meal? I could see she was giving me lip so I said to her if she continutled , I would be leaving a review. She changed her time immediately and said 'i will have a word with the chef'. Is that after you have served up around 50 of his meals??? Some manager...you have to listen to your customers!

After parking my motorcycle near the castle I got chatting with a local who recommended the steak pie, and it was amazing. Service and food was very good, reasonably priced and I’d say better than what’s in the high street.

Excellent little pub. Budvar on tap which was a pleasant surprise. Friendly staff and locals. Little outside area for when the weather allows with views towards the harbour. Also a restaurant upstairs, but I didn't have occasion to try the food on the last trip. Would highly recommend if you are looking for somewhere welcoming to stop after a day hiking or just in town.

Lovely cozy little bar next to the harbour. Didn't have food but it smelled really good! Friendly service and dog friendly too.

This is kind of the quintessential small Scottish pub. You walk in, it's immediately clear everyone inside is local, know each other, and have for years. But they're also really friendly and make you feel at home. We dropped in for dinner after a tour of Belhaven brewery, and couldn't be happier that we did. The food was amazing and the atmosphere was fantastic. If you're in Dunbar, go here even if it's just for a pint.
