Shenyang

Shenyang is the capital and largest city of China’s northeast Liaoning Province. It was the site of the 17th-century Manchu capital Mukden, and the imposing Mukden Palace (Shenyang Imperial Palace) is a blend of Manchurian and Tibetan architectural styles. Mausoleums of Qing dynasty emperors can be found at Zhaoling Tomb, amid the pine forests and lakes of Beiling Park, and at Fuling Tomb in the city’s east.

So brilliant museum containing so many precious ancient stories and memories ❤️.

2023 Returned to this museum and realized it had moved. Different experience. Free for tourists. 2 hours to briefly finished, 3 hours or more for detailed trip. 2009 Old review when I was a cabin crew. Lots of antiques of historical values to appreciate.

I was extremely impressed by this museum. My relatives offered to take me here on the way home from another attraction, and I had no idea what we were going to see. The only problem was we got here about an hour before closing, so I was not able to even see a fraction of the displays. If you like historical Chinese artifacts, particularly pottery, then visit this place if you have a chance.

I have visited The Liaoning Museum, Shenyang northeast. China on two occasions in the last 3 years and this museum is with out question as good as any in the world. I have been to a few of the major museums in the world which have Chinese cultural history items on display and have an interest in Chinese antiques like Ceramics, Jade and Bronzes, etc. I've been to The British Museum, Percival David Collection, UK. Shanghai Museum, Shanghai. Nanjing Museum, Nanjing. The Palace Museum Beijing, Beijing. The Forbidden City. and of course The Palace Museum, Taipei. I can say with out fear of contradiction The Liaoning Museum is as good as any of them, definitely world CLASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. The Museum it self a modern building and of course a modern interior, display cases and lighting world class, the presentation outstanding. the management and staff should be proud of what they offer the public. This Museum stands up against all the best Museums in the world. Don't miss out on this museum if you are visiting Liaoning, Shenyang. China. not many people get to this Museum because its not a tourist destination but if your interested in Chinese ceramics or Jade etc your eyes will water from the beautiful items on display in this Museum. The Mukden Palace is an extensive and intricate museum showcasing historical art and crafts. It was built in 1625 by Manchu emperor Nurhachi and his son, Huang Taiji, resembling a miniature Forbidden City. The palace served as the Qing dynasty rulers' residence until 1644 and has 114 buildings, which include imperial living quarters, ornate ceremonial halls, and a royal baby cradle. While not all buildings are accessible to the public, visitors can explore the central courtyard structures.
Wonderful experience! The architecture also has Manchu elements and everything is in great condition.

Went there during the school summer holiday, there were a lot of families with kids. Should avoid holiday seasons for a smoother visit. Foreigners can only buy tickets at the entrance which is quite inconvenient. Hired a tour guide at the palace’ gate, he was rather informative. Highly recommend if you want to have an educational trip. However, this palace is a much smaller version of the Beijing Forbidden City. Tried their modeled ice cream which was quite good.

Nice place, cost us CNY 50 per person, full of historical, must know the story before going, better appointed a guide during visit, but the day while I visit was very crowded, and was snowing at the same time. One thing is the customer service that letting visitor to store their lungguage close at 3.45pm, 45 mins before the palace close, which I felt a bit too early, we need to rush out for our lungguage. What a shame.

2023 Returned to Mukden Palace with my daughter, place was very crowded with local tourists. Due to over crowding, some places was forbidden to enter and only allowed to view from outside. 2009 Old review when I was a cabin crew. Imagine yourself walking back to history. This is the 1st Official Imperial Palace in China, the one at Beijing is 2nd, in term of history this is older. The palace is usually very quiet on a non-holiday season and will take at least 2 hours to finish. Eye opener for tourist like me. Amazing preservation from the small china wares that are still on display to the majestic architecture of the palace. Some of the china wares left me in awe. Buy the tickets directly from the ticket counter as there are some illegal sellers.

I loved this place. It was so big and there were so many things to explore. This is an authentic Chinese palace with many different parts opened so that you can find out about life in the olden days in a chinese palace. You can ask for a guided tour but you would of course have to pay. I honestly thought that it would be boring and was even reluctant to go as I thought it would be only about history, however, as soon as I arrived the scenery blew me away. The palace was so majestic and even the alleys and corridors were insta-worthy. 10/10 would go again especially if it is snowing.
whatscool - — Google review
The 'other' forbidden city, the less popular one, but all the better as there isn't the crowds you'd find in BeiJing and the palace is well kept and you get even more hints of Manchurian influences in the articles and architecture. Definitely worth a visit and a nice afternoon walking the pedestrian streets near the palace.
Hugh Yu — Google review
A lovely historic site. It's fortunate that it survives the wars and political upheavals. If you are interested in history of the Manchurian era, this is a must visit. The Palace is worth a visit but be prepared for the traffic chaos in Shenyang.

Airport
Shenyang Taoxian International Airport is a modern airport with a variety of flights and amenities, including shops, restaurants, and a business center. It's conveniently located just 30 minutes from downtown Shenyang, allowing travelers time to explore the city. While it can get crowded during peak times, the staff are praised for their assistance in ensuring passengers make their flights on time. The airport is well-equipped and provides easy access to information.
Nice airport but so many people in early morning. On 25th October arrived at 0645 to catch 0800 flight to Beijing but the line at CZ counters was huge! No way I could check in on time. Fortunately the staff helped me and others in the same situation to get the boarding pass in time. The same at security check, there is a last minute boarding line and well prepared staff to prioritise access to the counter based on boarding time. Finally I could get on board on time. Well done and well deserved 5 stars! However, better to arrive earlier to catch morning flights… ;)

International flight to Frankfurt. No hurry. Few people. Security check quick and good . Often checked by young ladies . And not to forget my Subway. With it the day is good. Delicious and a lot of choices. Airport is overcrowded for domestic flights. Very busy. But international department area is less busy. So you can relax and enjoy your flight. No hurry and few passengers. If you arrive and you need a taxi, please go outside and take an official one. Otherwise you pay too much and you get angry. If you use Shenyang airport only for transit you can stay some days as Tourist in Shenyang . You get a short term visa for China . Good .

Very big airport and quite speedy in their procedures. But I experienced a very rude security check officer, a lady who double checked my bag while being so pushy and all; I hope this is just one bad egg in the tray. Immigration and customs are great.

One of the worst airports in China. I've been coming to Shenyang for years and it gets worse every year. I normally fly from HKG so there is only one direct flight by China Southern. It arrives at 00:25 and there is a 70% chance the plane will park by the hanger which is far away from the terminal. I used to be able to call Didi and have me picked up at the departure level since cars are not allowed at the arrival level. Since 2017 the departure level will be closed nightly. (Can you imagine any other airports in a major city closes its departure hall every night?). This year, to my surprise Didi is not allowed from 11PM to 5AM now! So you must take a licensed taxi. I'm fine with taxis except 9 out of 10 will try to rip you off by either asking for more or having other customers ride with you. (No, share ride in Shenyang does not mean share fare).

I've never had connecting flights at Taoxian so I'd better not comment on that -- though I am not very optimistic. I am just really grateful that it is well-equipped and easy to get information of. Most importantly, they have toilet bowls in the restrooms at this airport so that no squatting is needed -- the latter is very headache-inducing in China. Food is expensive but it is pricey at other airports anyways. I speak Mandarin so getting help around SHE is not a problem. Could be difficult for those who do not. I guess it will be easier to ask fellow passengers who seem to be bilingual for help. A thank-you would be enough in return.
Andrew Hao — Google review
The airport security was very rude and removed tools that were very expensive from my luggage after inspection and I closed my luggage. The airport has limited food and closes early. Very few persons speak any languages other than Mandarin. I will make sure from this trip to never return. I have traveled internationally since 1974 and have never been treated so bad.
