Portofino

Portofino is a fishing village on the Italian Riviera coastline, southeast of Genoa city. Pastel-colored houses, high-end boutiques and seafood restaurants fringe its Piazzetta, a small cobbled square overlooking the harbor, which is lined with super-yachts. A path leads from the Piazzetta to Castello Brown, a 16th-century fortress and museum with art exhibitions and panoramic views of the town and the Ligurian Sea.

Portofino Bistrot is a charming and romantic destination in Liguria, Italy, just an hour's drive from Genoa. This picturesque fishing village offers a dual experience - it's frequented by the rich and famous yet also boasts nature parks, hidden beaches, monuments, and hiking trails with stunning views of the Tuguillo Gulf. The colorful buildings, stunning harbor, designer boutiques, and seafood restaurants make it a popular spot for day-trippers.
Great atmosphere and fabulous spot right on Portofino's harbour. Good and friendly service. Attentive. Ok prices, and good quality food, well presented and cooked.

The experience of visiting the restaurant was unparalleled! Delicious food, especially nice house wine, and excellent service. I would like to note that ravioli with spinach and ricotta impress with their incredible tenderness, and the portion turned out to be very large. It was a real gastronomic pleasure that complemented our evening. Special thanks to our waitress for her attention and professionalism. Although the prices are a bit higher, the overall experience is worth every penny. Thank you very much for a wonderful evening!

I don't even know where to start. But maybe I do. 7.50 for a glass of water which was clearly from the tap and we were not even informed it had a price. Moreover, they brought simple peanuts and chips from the supermarket. When you pay 10 euros for a glass of prosecco you kinda expect a little more effort.
Elisa Restelli — Google review
Tourist trap however it’s still nice spot with nice waiters. We sat on the booth tables near the water so we got the chance to see the fish & swans. Lovely place for an appetitive stop before heading to dinner. The drinks were pricey for Italy

Great lunch with my husband and our toddler at this Bistrot. They were friendly and the pesto pasta was amazing. We also ordered the zucchini and shrimp pasta which was also really fresh. Highly recommend.

Rude manager/owner. Spaghetti was uncooked. Ordered Marinara Mussels to receive olive oil mussuls. Bread was not fresh and waiter knew it. Not recommended

We stopped by for a quick bite and were pleasantly surprised. Warm and fast service, super fresh & delicious grilled calamari and salad.

After seeing all the bad reviews about this place and considering the experience I just had a couple hours ago, I feel obliged to weigh in. I’m giving this place five stars. Disclaimer: I only ordered a glass of wine here, no food. The service was good. They took my order within seconds of me sitting down and brought the wine fairly quickly. And look at the complimentary snacks that came with the wine! What’s not to like about this place?
Thomas Dwyer III — Google review
Despite so many negative reviews, our experience was not bad at all. True, the portions are small, and the prices are very high. However, the culinary experience in the heart of Portofino, overlooking the harbor, comes with its price. The quality of the dishes was good, and we did not experience unfriendly service. One reservation might be the water, priced at 8EUR, and the added 15% service charge to the bill.
Mateusz Molasy — Google review
The food was amazing. However, beware the staff likes to sneak in charges to tourists, the waiter kept offering me a glass of water but when I asked how much he said, 8€. Why offer it then? The price for the drinks is outrageous since my friends paid 13€ for one aperol and it wasn’t very good and their orange juice costs 12€. I would come back only because the food and views are good. Finally, I read in the previous reviews they charge a hidden fee but it didn’t happen to us, they only charged us 3.75€ for the service charge (coperto). If you go make sure to check the bill before you pay.

WORSE PLACE IN PORTOFINO. The servers were rude and didnt give us more than 5 mins to choose our food. While we were deciding what to drink, the servers forced us to order without even looking at the menu. We didn’t like their pushy attitude so we decided to leave and pay the bottle of water we order (and didn’t drink) for 10€. Not to mention that we were three adults and they gave us a table for two (Kids). We went to eat to the Splendido Mare right after, which was a way better experience, with polite and respectful people! Ditch this choice if you pass by. A la poubelle Portofino Bistrot.
Pablo Garcia — Google review
The panoramic view from this venue is breathtaking; however, the culinary offerings fall short of expectations. Be forewarned that engaging with the owner may mar your experience significantly, as their incessant complaints can transform what should be an idyllic day into an exceedingly frustrating ordeal. Ultimately, the negatives outweigh the positives, making it difficult to recommend.

Excellent service, value and view! Highly enjoyed our leisurely dinner here recently. Portofino being the home of Pesto, the simple pesto pasta dish stood out as a vacation highlight.

This restaurant was so bad that we will remember it forever. I’ve never written a review before, but this restaurant made me do it. If it were not for the stunning view and scores of oblivious tourists, this restaurant would have died a long time ago. $8 euro for table water. $4 euro per customer added as a tip. A pizza that was clearly a supermarket pizza. A “nicoise salad” that was basically a tasteless mixed green bag salad. $9 euros for a coke. $17 euros for a Gin and tonic. Spaghetti that was an embarrassment even for Canada where we are from. While we were there, we saw other tables visibly upset at the food and prices. There was a scene with one Italian lady storming out of restaurant warning everyone about being ripped off. Anyways, there you have it. Hope you read this before deciding to venture in!
Chris Clibbon — Google review
AVOID this restaurant at all cost! If Google would allow me to give an overall rating of 1 - I would! This is probably my first negative review - based on how we were treated! We had an hour to kill, before we boarded our boat back to Rapallo and we were looking to sit, relax, get a drink and soak in the views for 1 last time. In general, almost all these seaside restaurants are aversive to customers with kids or large families and we were both - 8 in the group with 3 kids (2 in strollers)! They come running and say 'reserved' even when there are plenty of vacant seats (pictured). This restaurant was the same and then some! 1 waiter reluctantly let my sister in law and her kid and my mother in law sit. Just when they were settling down, the other waiter, came and literally chased them away, with some rude tone/words in Italian! You read it right. The stroller was folded and tucked away. Kid didn't even need a high-chair. Needless to say, we took our business elsewhere...where we had a pleasant time and were treated respectfully.

We stayed here two nights for our honeymoon. The staff were so lovely. Some of the rooms are small which is understandable given the size of Portofino. Overall a lovely stay!

The location of the hotel is amazing and the service is fantastic .. if you are not staying at the hotel and you just want to visit, it is preferable that make a reservation and either the restaurant or cafe otherwise they may not let you in. If you don’t have a car, you can walk from the center of Portofino up to the hotel, and it takes 17 to 20 min. Absolutely worth visiting..!

Absolute waste of time. Won’t sit you to enjoy the view on account flowers for other guest needing said table. Don’t expect service at the pool or good bookings at restaurants in town either. Room (junior suite) very average size, lighting awful, toilet flusher problematic. Conclusion, don’t bother.

A lovely place to stay for the couples. The location is very well. It’s in the middle of the Portofino, and you can see the view of the Portofino Yacht Marina.

Truly enjoyed staying at this hotel! I'll tell you what is special about it: 1️⃣ The view and location convenience were amazing! It was situated at the square of everything - shopping, breathtaking views, delicious restaurants, and mouthwatering gelatos! I'm a light sleeper, but I wasn't bothered by any noise from outside. Can't recall anything that disturbed my sleep 2️⃣ The service was top-notch! The staff was incredibly supportive and friendly. They even went above and beyond by providing us with beach slippers, tote bags, and artistic pouches when all we asked for was beach slippers! 3️⃣ We had access to the main Splendido hotel for all its wonderful facilities! They had Benz shuttles available for pick up and drop off every 15 minutes. We enjoyed the spectacular view, the pool with teal sea water, and the unforgettable experience at the outdoor Dior spa! 🌊 4️⃣ This hotel also offers free access to dior beach club & 1-hour boat tour for free, and you can even add more hours if you wish, with just a small extra charge! The boat takes you on a tour. U’ll be able to see the famous houses from a sea view. U’ll get the chance to swim next to Dolce & Gabbana's house and let the beautiful sun sparkle and shimmer on you! 5️⃣ The rooms were incredibly convenient and comfortable. We booked a suite as we were 3. They provided high-end hair and shower products, making the whole experience even more luxurious! I truly found myself in Portofino! Thank you for the unforgettable experience that made me want to come back again! 🌟🙌

From the moment we arrived, Matteo was just the best person we experienced in Portofino. As soon as we walked in he made us feel like old friends. We will definitely be back because of him. 10/10 recommend. Thank you Matteo for making us fall in love with Portofino, because of you!! Before we came to sit, I said I will never be back. After leaving we will definitely come back again. Grazie Mille

We had our post wedding dinner here and it was INCREDIBLE!!! One of the best dinners I've ever had. 4 of us all had different items and it was all spectacular. The tuna spaghetti was amazing! Chiara was so wonderful, taking great care of us all! I have a lot of great photos of dinner, on my other phone

We had an amazing experience. The clientele is rather international and pleasant. The amount of bloggers is much lower than expected considering the amazing view (that really is worth a photo or two) The pianist last night was amazing, the staff is caring and professional. The prices are like in similar locations and the menu too. I hope you’ll have a lovely stay too.

Centuries-old Romanesque Lombard-style church, with a striped facade & richly decorated interior.
Gorgeous church that sits on top of a hill. Be careful of the traffic and cars going up. Use the stairs to avoid cars. The church is filled with ceiling art and there a a gorgeous organ in the back. This church was built in 12th century based on my research and it is meticulously maintained. There are sculptures as well as beautiful stained glass.

The minor Basilica of San Martino al Monti is not imposing and appears very modest from its exterior, but so richly decorated interior. Very impressive and imposing interior with lavish golden textures and marbles, artwork and glorious stained glass windows. Built in the 12th century, this is Lombard-Romanesque style at its finest. It claims to possess an organ of 1679 by Tomaso Roccatagliata. It's well suited this impressive, exclusive piece of Italian Riviera, Portofino.

Delicious and fresh pasta dishes! Amazing location and lovely service. We ordered the mussels for our appetizer, and the sauce was amazing. Loved it! The Eight Hotel Portofino is a great place to stay in Portofino due to its excellent location. It offers free parking, a spa, and friendly staff. The rooms are well decorated and very clean. The breakfast is also great.
A wonderful hotel with a very clean and comfortable room. A bit small compared to the other hotels we stayed at while in Italy. Great service and accommodation except for at the very end when the front desk didn't want to contact the Splendido to request transfer of our luggage. Was kind of odd. Ended up just walking our four bags down. About halfway the Splendido staff recognized us and took over which was nice.

Good location, friendly and accommodating hotel stuff, good breakfast. They have a sister hotel with in Paraggi (6-8 min away, hotel shuttle takes you there and brings you back) with a sandy beach and as a hotel guest for a fee you can enjoy seaside and I highly recommend that. Room 10 review: Shower sides are open and water is spilling but there is only one foot towel so soak all the spilled water. It is most likely the reason for moldy smell in the room, water damage on the wall, and mold in the shower. Shower area needs major scrubbing. Water pressure is good and shower head is good too. Interesting that their toilet paper the same one you get at the airport :) Strange because they are charging quite a bit for a night and should afford to buy better toilet paper. Bed is not comfortable because it is too hard and if you are a side sleeper, mattress doesn’t have enough give. Pillows are not comfortable too because they are too flat. Bed is a good size, probably king size. For how much we paid which is over $1000/night, I expected cleaner accommodations and a more comfortable bed with pillows. I personally won’t stay here again if nothing is done about pillows and the mattress. I can overlook a dirty/moldy shower and cheap toilet paper but comfortable sleep is a must for me.
Lidia Smorodina — Google review
The location is great, the personnel is very attentive. But you can hear your neighbor’s iPhone alarm iPhone ringing with 2 doors closed.. the doors are absolutely not soundproof, to the point that you are wondering if it is open! The room quality is so so (see pictures) the TV was not operable. It’s a good hotel but not a 5 star, not worth almost a 1000 euros a night!
Max exavit — Google review
Great location, friendly staff, rooms on the small side, no view of the sea from anywhere so do not be fooled by the picture. The thing that got us this morning was no water. Have been up since 7:00 trying to take a shower and head out. It appears there is not enough pressure. Check the video. They said there is a problem with the main pipe somewhere in town. They don’t know when it will be fixed. They offered that we can take a shower in Spa! Not acceptable for a so-called 5 star hotel to work off the pressure of the main water pipe! This is a fundamental basic. In many countries hotels/rooms without water would be shut by the health inspector.

Although our hotel experience was great, they double charged us for our room mistakenly. I’ve tried to get in touch with the team there several times with zero responses regarding my refund. I've never experienced this level of bad customer service from a hotel and am incredibly frustrated with this process. I still have yet to receive my refund after almost 3 months.
Sonali Karunaratne — Google review
Paid for my stay using Hyatt points. They still charge me over $1200 at check out and then make excuses when working on a refund. there is never an actual hotel manager on site, just reception. I’ve resorted to disputing the charge with my bank.

Had a fantastic 4 night stay here, the staff could not do enough to help you, were so friendly and went out of their way to make sure you had a good stay. Breakfast had plenty of choice, the roof top garden and hot tub was in a beautiful setting and drinks can be served there as well. Visited the sister hotel to enjoy the beach which was beautiful, they’ll even provide free transport for you. The hotel is in a fantastic location with only a short walk into the main area of portofino. Highly recommend this hotel and would certainly visit again
J Gill — Google review
This is supposedly 5 star hotel, but it does not have a halve of the amenities that the good hotel should have. It’s very deceiving from the website. To start - the rooms are small, the bed is very low and flat, there is no view except old and ugly houses nearby, no restaurant, no bar, no beach, no view. Nothing.

One of the best restaurants to dine in Portofino. Family owned very friendly and welcoming service. Dined at many places in Portofino and would only recommend this place and La Terraza. It’s also much calmer than the packed and busy port area. The pesto and panna cotta were one of the best I had in Italy :) The seafood is fresh caught during the same day so the catch of the day will vary. Highly recommend. As you can also see in pics - this place is a pick for both Giorgio Armani and Andrea Bocelli.

Do yourself a favor and avoid the packed restaurants by the port and just walk about 5 minutes to this quiet, amazing place. The flat pasta with pesto had the best pesto sauce I've ever tasted. (Trennete o Mandilli al pesto). I used the bread to soak up every last bit of pesto. The spaghetti alla marinara was delicious as well. Perfect al dente and seasoned to perfection.

This place is an authentic gem. We felt at odds being the only foreigners in this small, quaint hillside locals’ enclave but that’s exactly what we wanted. The owner/staff were good-hearted and had a regal professionalism. Our best meal of the trip, a true romantic hideaway well worth the five minute trek up the hill away from the harbor spots most land in. Seafood was unparalleled and we left charmed and in gratitude.

We waited for this restaurant to open at noon. While waiting, a woman who happened to be associated with the restaurant almost ran us over on her motorcycle while apparently running late for work. We crossed the street and while waiting, struck a conversation with a group from our cruise ship. They were a group of 8-10 who didn’t have reservations either. As the restaurant opened, the larger group was seated first (by the lady who almost ran us over with the motorcycle). As we approached the door, the lady yelled…’CLOSED’. We were confused because the restaurant was empty with the exception of the group who was sat before us at 12:01. We started walking away, only to see two people (non-African American) be seated. I asked them if they had reservations and they told me NO. This is our first experience in Portofino, and it’s not a very favorable one, especially with this restaurant. She was rude and had zero customer service skills. Clearly we are not in the US. Didn’t have an opportunity to taste or review the food. We will spend our money elsewhere, without hesitation. “rude culo “

The food was delicious! The service was very nice! The only downside was the extra charges added to the bill which is still understandable. However, we ordered Campari and to our surprise we paid an absurd 30€ for two. Unfortunately, the drinks are not on the tab. It is worth checking well what you are paying for. However, we felt very comfortable in the reastaurant!

Ristorante Lo Stella is a historic establishment in Portofino, dating back to 1850 and currently run by the eighth generation of the founding family. The restaurant offers Ligurian seafood, pasta, and desserts with a special recommendation for their tortelli di Preboggion. Situated at the seafront, it provides a picturesque view of the harbor and yachts from its covered terrace. Additionally, they feature daily specials and host various events including karaoke nights.
The location of the restaurant is wonderful, the food is delicious and fresh, and the Arab waiter is respectful and helpful. I wanted to thank him for choosing the appropriate halal dishes for us, and he was the savior. . The decor of the restaurant inside is beautiful

We had an amazing dinner at Ristorante Lo Stella. The service was excellent; it was fast and the servers went out of their way to make sure we were happy with everything. We ordered the seared tuna and the prosciutto with melon. Both were delicious. The tuna was perfectly cooked. Large portions too. Beautiful location and atmosphere. I highly recommend this restaurant.

This was aggressively delicious! I was not ready for how amazing the pasta dishes were going to be. The octopus and potatoes was so light and flavorful. I was caught off guard by the different approach to the lasagna and it was extravagant, you MUST try. The cocktail, I recommend which was created by the brother of Martina. The seafood pasta was mouthwatering, every bite. The dessert was a nice refreshing contrast. Definitely worth a visit to Portofino for this restaurant. Can I give it 6/5 stars?

Fried mix seafood is fresh and delicious. The pasta is also good. And we can set in the restaurant to see the view, an interesting experience.

Very nice restaurant on the seaside! The food is very tasty, especially the raw seafood, which I truly recommend. Also the wine which we ordered was very good. The prices are somewhat high, but that seems to be the regular price level in Portofino. The waiters were very nice and helpful. Recommended!

The wines are great, especially the french rose! Great kitchen, fresh fish! Great service, especially the waiter! Splendid view! The lemon pie was delicious.

Average and overpriced. €8 for a glass of wine. Had the spaghetti with clams, fried seafood platter and fish ravioli. Only the fried seafood was good, really hard to make fried seafood bad anyway.

Trattoria Tripoli is a family-run restaurant that has been serving Ligurian cuisine since 1911. Situated in the main square of Portofino, it offers outdoor seating with views of the bay. The restaurant is known for its signature dish, "Mandilli" al pesto, a unique type of lasagna. The DeNaro family takes pride in serving fresh fish and pasta dishes, including delicious pesto lasagne.
We had an excellent dinner at Trattoria Tripoli. We ordered the spaghetti with clams and the pesto. The best pesto we have ever had. Really great food and nice location too.

I don't usually do long reviews, but this place deserves it. The hardest restaurant to run is probably a fish restaurant, even worse when seasonal, and way worse when at the heart of a super touristy area such as Portofino. It's probably hard to show up daily and deal with the ignorance of the clientele which must be as insufferable as the continuous heat and the difficulty of finding the right products. I don't know these guys who run this place, but considering how well they do it I wish I did. My meal was almost insanely amazing with some stunningly fresh local ingredients (see photos which I never take). The octopus dish was super pro, but the seafood spaghetti (boring you would think) was more than pro, was a work of love. Its impossible to keep this quality day in and day out while half your orders are prosciutto e melone so cut these fine gentlemen some slack when not everything is perfect. Tip of the hat !

OMG! We toured over 10 Italian cities, but unquestionably, this became our favorite restaurant. The food is more than divine; truly, the flavors are from another dimension. I wish to taste such delicious fish again someday. The service is more than good, and the waitstaff make you feel at home - welcome, cared for, and well-fed

5 stars for 5 star service and some of the most delicious food I have ever eaten in Italy. The squid salad was world class. Looks like a family owned restaurant. Service was very very good and welcoming. Was worth every euro.

A small family restaurant with the most incredibly delicious seafood you'll ever eat. A great manager that went out of his way to make sure we were taken care of properly.

Ist day of summer mother nature turned on the weather. Stopped here for lunch and was not disappointed. Excellent food and wine as well as good service. We also thought the prices were reasonable. The pasta is house made and the seafood was super fresh. It was busy throughout lunch service and we noted many Italians there for lunch.

The food was amazing. The fried anchovies were delicious. The trenette pesto Genovese was the best pesto I have ever tasted. The spaghetti frutti mare was also delicious. Here is my reason for the 3 star service. We were sitting next to two Italian men having lunch. I noticed them pay their bill and leave. When we got our bill, our waiter wrote in pen on the top "service not included". That was NOT on the gentlemen's bill at the next table. NOT COOL.

Absolutely delicious dinner. The pesto was unreal, the service was friendly and great, the views of the port beautiful and overall we had an amazing dinner. Highly recommend to get everything pesto related.

An outstanding lunch dining experience at Trattoria Tripoli. We (4 people) enjoyed all 3 of their 3 fish lunch specials and all were perfectly prepared. Outstanding service from Marco and all other staff members. A clean restaurant that reflects their pride in the business. A very highly recommended restaurant stop in beautiful Portofino.

The gnocchi lime was so light and flavourful. The service was welcoming and knowledgeable especially compared to other restaurants nearby. Overall it is a must when in Portofino. P.s ask for the house chilli oil 👌

This restaurant is the hidden gem of Portofino. The food was exceptional, and the service was stellar. Marco made recommendations to our group that did not disappoint, and his staff were very engaging. Move this place to the top of your list when visiting.

The veal Milanese was disappointing felt like a quick defrosting work and the chips were soggy and cold. Perhaps other plates are better. The service was cheerful and the ambiance is nice though.

Located in the corner of the piazza of Portofino, Trattoria Tripoli is almost a hidden gem! Family owned and operated by the DeNaro family you can expect to have among the best pesto dishes in Portofino!! Seba and his father take great pride in serving only the freshest fish and pasta. My kids are very picky when it comes to pesto, and they all cleaned their plates of every drop of pasta and pesto!. My wife really enjoyed the Orata (white fish with lemon bitter, olive oil, and potatoes. Tell them GIO SAYS HI!
