Market
Sights & Landmarks
Kuromon Ichiba Market is a spacious market in Osaka, Japan, known for its diverse range of vendors selling street food, fresh produce, shellfish, and souvenirs. The market offers an incredible variety of stalls featuring live fish, exotic fruits, affordable items from dollar shops, and artisanal souvenir shops.
Went here before pandemic. Fun to look around and decent food stalls. Had humongous oyster, tuna sushi and beef skewers. They’re pricey but good to try a few things for fun.
Eunju Lee — Google review
One of our must-visit list for Osaka. Nicknamed “Osaka’s kitchen” because both local homeowners and restaurant chefs get their supplies here, the market is famous for its fresh seafood. One reason for the market’s popularity is that many stalls will prepare, cook and serve their food to you right on the spot. This makes it an excellent venue for strolling, sampling, and snacking on a delicious variety of fresh market foods.
Andrew Ang — Google review
I went there in the afternoon for lunch on a weekday, very convenient to reach by train. There was no heavy crowd compared to the Shinsaibashi area, there are a lot of eateries, but most are quite pricey and perhaps overpriced. Location: good, easily accessible Food: Taste good, but overall the price on the higher side, perhaps overpriced
Ong Chin — Google review
I do not recommend this market. Yes, every thing there is beautiful, but too expensive, especially for foreign tourists. Many shops have tables there inside and offer fresh seafood to bake and sell to you on the spot. It tempting but you should be careful. First, much more expensive than in stores outside, second, you should keep eyes to avoid substituting less fresh seafood for the ones you've picked out.
Bars Bars — Google review
Went on a Sun morning. Was surprised it wasn’t that crowded. Great variety of fresh seafood options. Fruits were huge, fresh and reasonably priced. Most stores are small and squeezy. Be prepared to buy your food and stand at a corner to consume.
Calbee Cracker — Google review
We came before pandemic. The market was pretty incredible and it was quite big with a long alley as typical market in Japan. The store mostly sold various local produce, seafood, clams, fish, fruits, traditional snacks and confectionery, daily needs grocers etc. we tried, sashimi in makuroyagin, grilled scallops, strawberry mochi and white strawberry. It was fresh and delicious. Price is moderate. Easy access when you stay in Namba area.
Miranti Vidyasari — Google review
Not crowded on a Saturday 3pm. Easy to walk about. Many food and snacks can be purchased but we were too full to try. We bought soya drink, it's very thick and no sugar added. For those who drink healthy drinks can try. those who prefer sugary drinks may not like it. Suggest buy 1 cup and share around to have a taste first.
Ceres Ng — Google review
This place deserves high praise for its abundance of incredibly fresh seafood, which can be grilled right in front of the guests. Every establishment here provides excellent service, and the wagyu barbecue is absolutely outstanding.
Jayjay — Google review
Many seafood stalls cook fresh when you buy the dishes. Wide selection. The quality is not as expected. The grill ones take time in some weekend.
ni ni UD — Google review
Incredible place to find fresh seafood. You can sit down at stalls to munch on individually prepared meals.
Hii Wei Wei — Google review
Excellent market. So many options. So many different food to try. Unfortunately my stomach is not large enough for everything. The wagyu beef skewers are the best.
Winona Khocolate — Google review
So... much... food!!! If you're a seafood lover, this is the place to be! There's plenty of gigantic prawns, shellfish, lobsters and unagi here, along with Kobe beef skewers. Be prepared to pay a bit... we paid ~20,000¥ for our meal as we had the jumbo prawns + lobster + Kobe beef skewers + snow crab + scallops, but it was so worth it!! So fresh and tasty, not like the frozen seafood you get elsewhere.
Cecilia Tran — Google review
Must visit for folks coming to Osaka the first time. Huge market with lots of seafood, they even offer to cook for you on the spot. There are some popular stalls that are extremely crowded, thus, I would recommend you to come early in the morning if you plan to have your breakfast here.
Wendell Ow — Google review
Nice place to have some sashimi and sushi. Recommend going about 10 am ortherwise there will be crowded. The food was quite expensive but good quality. Should survey the price first and choose the cheapest one.

Kuromon Ichiba Market, also known as 黑門市場 (Kuromon Ichiba), is a renowned culinary hotspot located in the heart of Osaka, Japan. Serving as a haven for food enthusiasts, this bustling market is revered for its vibrant atmosphere, diverse offerings, and the unmistakable aroma of mouthwatering street food. Today, we journeyed through Kuromon Ichiba and experienced a culinary adventure like no other. Upon entering the market, we were greeted by a sensory explosion of colors, sounds, and tantalizing smells. The pathways were lined with stalls offering an impressive array of fresh seafood, local produce, and delectable snacks. A seafood lover's dream, Kuromon Ichiba Market offers everything from succulent crabs, plump oysters, and shimmering sashimi to the finest cuts of Kobe beef. The highlight of our visit was undoubtedly the abundance of street food options to choose from. As our taste buds danced with anticipation, we meandered through the bustling lanes, each stall seemingly offering a new and exciting culinary delight. From piping hot takoyaki (octopus balls) and crispy kushikatsu (deep-fried skewers) to generously stuffed okonomiyaki (savory pancakes) and freshly grilled seafood, every bite was a burst of flavor and texture.
Wisanu Tuntawiroon — Google review
Came in expecting higher prices for tourists, and indeed, the seafood and Kobe beef options were not budget-friendly. But okay, decided to give it a try since I'm a tourist exploring Osaka for the first time. Worth noting that taste-wise varies among the stores and is subjective to individual preferences. Despite the cost, many places offered tables and chairs for a comfortable dining experience.
Jeraldine Tan — Google review
This is a must go for seafood lovers. There are many stalls selling fresh & high quality seafood like otoro, kamatoro, Chutoro tuna cuts, gigantic scallops, fugu fish, sea urchin, oyster etc. offering the best ingredients we get in a sushi restaurant. One can select different preparations of either sashimi, sushi or grill. The market closes at 2pm so it is advisable to go in the morning to get fresher selections.

Hozenji Yokocho, located behind Hozenji Temple in southern Osaka, is a charming narrow alleyway filled with around 60 traditional food stalls, cafes, and taverns. Originally a bustling theater district in the 1600s, this area offers a wide variety of dining options ranging from sushi to hot pot and the popular Osaka dish okonomiyaki. The atmosphere comes alive in the evening with swinging lanterns casting a soft light that transports visitors back to old Japan.
Located not far from Ebisu Bashi and Dotonburi, in one of the side streets of Shinsaibashi Street, this small temple is very charming, especially in the evening when the little lanterns are lit. Check my IG or TikTok @tabimawari for content about Japan & itineraries
Tabimawari — Google review
An interesting contrast to the busy Dotonbori tourist area as this place seems to be a secret alley of shops and restaurant that gives an old-time Japan charm, it's almost like being on a movie set! The strip is set in cobblestone paved path and it features a minor temple called Hozenji, for which the street was named after. There's a small stone Buddhist statue now beautifully covered with moss, thanks to a long tradition of people pouring water into the statue as they make a wish.
Recz Baltazar — Google review
Rustic alleyway, worth viewing
Sheryl — Google review
Really neat set of alleyways that's full of good food. A tad less busy than Dotonbori as well. Would definitely recommend strolling around here for lunch or dinner!
Nicholas Pun — Google review
A beautiful place to wander through in the day and away from the crowds, a few monuments have English translations too! Definitely come back at night time to see the rows of tiny bars alive!
Lily D — Google review
An area located in the bustling Minami district, yet still retaining the peaceful atmosphere of Naniwa. Within Yokocho are long-established Japanese restaurants, bars, okonomi-yaki restaurants (Japanese pancakes) and kushi-katsu restaurants (skewers and fried meats and vegetables).
Sengoku Daimyou — Google review
This alley has become a major tourist draw in Osaka, it's a narrow stone-paved alley lined with traditional Japanese izakayas, restaurants, and shops. It's especially enchanting in the evenings when the lanterns illuminate the narrow alley, creating a magical ambiance.
κεηηγsκ — Google review
Nice street with a lot of good looking restaurants but very very crowded at night. You will have to take some time to queue, which is normal in Japan though.
Catharina Kohnen — Google review
This is a pair of narrow cobbled pedestrian lanes in the back of Dotonbori (towards Namba direction), filled with small interesting restaurants. Less commercial than the bustling Dotonbori main streets, but more fun.
Henry Mok — Google review
Its a narrow street , its pretty but nothing special. Some Cafe are here.
Supergoola — Google review
Sounds better than it is. Haven't tried any restaurants here but feel that this Street wasn't much different to many others, except for the cobblestone
Tobias Gehrke — Google review
Quiet alley with great restaurants. We wandered at random and came up with a great king crab leg restaurant.

Namba Yasaka Shrine, located in the Namba district of Osaka, is a truly unique and visually mesmerizing attraction. The shrine's main building is shaped like a giant lion head with its mouth wide open, creating an impressive 12-meter tall and 11-meter wide structure. This shrine is often referred to as the Lion Shrine due to this distinctive feature. It is believed that the open mouth of the lion swallows evil spirits and brings good fortune to those seeking success in business and education.
One of the most distinctive and iconic sights in Osaka for its gigantic lion head stage. I would call it an absolute must visit in the city. They also offer a variety of lucky omamori charms with images of the lion on them. Located roughly 10 minutes walk from Namba station
Jacob Newcomb — Google review
To have such shrine in the middle of the city is unbelievable. It actually looks really cool and very traditional at the same time by being located there. They were remodelling a couple of things when I went there but that only means they are taking care of it and maintaining it. I'd say it is a must to see if you are into looking and very traditional things from Japan plus it is very unique to not look at.
Sergio Portillo — Google review
April 2024. This shrine was amazing to see. Very short visit but truly worth it. We went at around 14:30 and there was not a lot of persons. We could take a few pictures and enjoy the scenery. Truly amazing ! No entry fee.

A nice little shrine close to Namba station. It is not a huge shrine but the giant gargoyle head is worth the visit.
Joshua Clubley — Google review
Super cool little shrine in Osaka. It's not that big, bit it's got a giant head with an open mouth that is for sure the main drawn. It also has several walkways, some cherry trees, and a lil temple as well. It's very accessible and not too crowded (then again, I did go on a rainy day in February). Overall would recommend.
Ruthie R — Google review
An interesting design shrine in the area with a beast head shape structure. Quite busy most of the time, but surely a landmark to be seen and visited if you haven't done so in the past.
Luke L'sk — Google review
PLEASE REMEMBER THIS IS A HOLY SITE REQUIRING YOUR RESPECT! This is a quiet and intimate little shrine in Osaka with some pretty unique features. It is worth your time as well as your best manners. Please keep in mind this is a religious site and not an Instagram baddie location to take your internet content at ♥️
D — Google review
If you seek a shrine with a different focus, then look no further. Much less crowded than your other more famous shrines in Osaka. You can not enter the mouth, but everyone waits their turn to get a photo in front. There are three different road access points. Wheelchair friendly. Amulets and charms can also be purchased. Worth the visit!
R Williamson — Google review
As my wife dragged me to this, our 90th shrine, she said, “this shrine is not like any one we’ve seen before.” I rolled my eyes, but she was right! It’s different! No vermillion gates, no Buddha guys, just a giant head shaped like the demon guys you sometime see. It’s a small complex with this headliner temple (see what I did there) and another small temple sandwiched between modern buildings. They do goshunin here, and not just by selling you a sheet of paper, which my wife appreciated. Come for a unique photo if you’re in the area but don’t expect to spend more than 15 minutes here.
Josh Diddams — Google review
Small temple and pretty quiet. Its kind of nestled in a residential area~ Of course, it is famous for the lion’s head, but it is a beautiful shrine regardless. The people at the shrine office were lovely and they also had a laminated menu to look at to choose omamori, if you don’t speak much Japanese yet~ This goes without saying but this is a place of worship, so it is best to be respectful~
Ro Newcombe — Google review
Such an impressive shrine 😍 the grounds are small, but the main building and the stage are both worth checking out. It was a great opportunity to get some cool photos.

Good place for a sincere prayer with a good holiday trip in Osaka. Realistically and thankfully, my perfect trip in Osaka ends with a divine visit to this famous temple before flying home the following day. God bless indeed.

It's a tranquil place in the middle of the city. 10-15 minute walk from the station (maybe faster depending on how quickly you walk) and must be early to avoid crowds. If you only want pictures, good for you! Other than that, I didn't find anything too exciting from it. (Or I'm just not into shrines...😬)
Yen Jimenez — Google review
Very small but interesting shrine. Worth a visit if you happen to be in the area and it's not that touristy. You need to see it in person and admire the craftsmanship but other than that nothing much to explore. They do have a decent selection of charms as well
Terry “Monochromist” Chua — Google review
A small but unique Shrine with the Lion head as the main characteristic. We went here as the hotel we stayed at is just a short walk from here. Worth a visit if you happen to be around this area.

Amazing shrine to look at, try to put some money in the box in-front of the shrine- we’re not religious but wanted to leave a donation for us being there. *would also recommend- DOURAKU records, they’re very close to the shrine & is a vinyl lovers dream! You can stop for a beer or coffee and just enjoy the music that’s playing, they also put on old movies in the corner which is very fun. The owner is so friendly and will have a good chat with you :)*
Pipp Hughes — Google review
The 12-meter tall, 11-meter wide lion head-shaped building that’s the main attraction here. Apparently, the huge open mouth of the lion is said that it will swallow any evil spirits plaguing you, leaving you only good luck for succeeding in business or school-related ventures. That was why I decided to drop by this place. Place was filled with tourist but you can still get a decent shot of the temple. Sells nice Amulet. Worth the time and visit!
Hestiabelle Zannillestel — Google review
The Shrine was settled in not too many years ago. The icon lion head is presented protection from diseases, the natural disasters and human sickness. People praying there looking for good health and protection. Surrounding with a nice gardens, I noticed a status of excited hose, guess it's symbol of lifting upright energies. When I was there the moment was rather quiet in the middle of buzzy city Osaka. 😍
Lihua Zhao — Google review
It’s unique architecture not like any other shrine you’ll see makes it very popular among visitors in Osaka. It can be quite crowded, depending on what time you’re there, but the crowd move on quickly as they’re there just to take pictures. Although it’s a popular site, please act respectfully as it is still a holy place.
Fairuz Aarif — Google review
Amazing shrine, such incredible handiwork. They had an interactive board that offered information about the history of the shrine and town and the customs of the shrine in English and other languages. Very cool. Some beautiful cherry blossoms too and wasn’t too busy, we went at 10am.
April Kerslake — Google review
A small shrine near a super busy city but definitely worth a visit. Not like the other temples, the lion over the shrine is something you don’t often see. Although there may be crowds, you’ll still be able to take a photo if you’re patient as the crowds move on quickly. Also, it’s free to visit so another plus!
Ashley Nicol — Google review
It’s located in a quiet block ( mainly residential) but easy access to train stations. The shrine is not big. You can easily walk every building in it within a few minutes, but I recommend stopping at a corner of the garden or simply stand by the lion temple to enjoy the quiet moments of a beautiful shrine. The gift shop is selling a very cute pair of amulets. If you’re interested in small souvenir, you should stop by and take a look.

Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Osaka Castle, a revered structure dating back to 1597 and rebuilt since then, is a major attraction in Osaka. The stunning oriental architecture of the castle is just one reason to visit this historical site. Surviving wars and earthquakes, the castle features beautiful gardens with still ponds that offer fairytale reflections at night. Inside the castle, there's a museum showcasing its long history and providing information about Toyotomi Hideyoshi, who first built a castle on the site.
The largest castle in Japan, and a very impressive sight to behold. It’s white and green color stands out boldly in both blue skies and grey, and it is an excellent place for some photos. It’s definitely a must visit if in Osaka for any length of time. I personally recommend using Moriya station for easy access.
Jacob Newcomb — Google review
The castle itself is super impressive. It's beautiful and can be seen from quite a distance away, making it feel very grand. The surrounding area of the castle is also really nice. On one side is a river/lake? That is lined with cherry blossom trees, and on the other is stalls filled with yummy food. The area gets very busy pretty quickly, so if you want to go up the castle (which I imagine is an impressive view), then it might be best to go earlier in the day.
Georgia Ramsamy (GG) — Google review
The castle is absolutely gorgeous, something you will remember forever. The view from the top is also amazing. If you have time to stay and read and view all the history inside I would recommend it, but the inside is renovated to be a modern museum. so don't expect it to look like a castle on the inside if that's what you are looking for you won't get it here. If your are in more of a time crunch I would probably spend more time in the park and skip paying to go inside. Still a very beautiful and historic place to visit.
Daniel Lara — Google review
The Osaka castle has incredible views and has 8 floors you can walk up filled with the history of the castle and area. Beautiful set out and air conditioned on floors 4 and 5 for special artifacts. There is a lift to floor 5. There were allot of people when we went but the line up went quickly. We spent just over an hour there. You can listen to a portable tour guide - not sure if it was in English, but there are written descriptions of everything. We enjoyed this castle.
Suzanne Haynes — Google review
Historical Place in Osaka – Is It Worth Visiting? I decided to challenge myself and visit Osaka Castle under the blazing sun on a super sunny day. The walk from the metro station to the castle took about 10 minutes, which was manageable. However, reaching the castle from the entrance itself required another 20 minutes, and I must emphasize again, be prepared for the scorching summer heat. A helpful tip: consider getting the ticket online, or you can even book it when you arrive at the castle, which costs around $5. This way, you can skip the line at the ticket vending machine. The castle boasts 7 stories, with the top floor offering a 360-degree view of Osaka. From that point, you can see the entire city. However, the walk path to the top is quite narrow, so be prepared for a crowd. On the lower levels, you'll discover Japanese national treasures, including craftsmanship of swordsman, paintings, and an Osaka map. All in all, visiting Osaka Castle can be a rewarding experience, especially if you're interested in history and cultural artifacts. Just make sure to plan ahead for the hot weather and consider purchasing tickets online to save time.

Osaka Castle stands as a historic and iconic landmark in the heart of Osaka, Japan. With its grandeur and historical significance, it draws visitors from around the world to explore its storied past and captivating architecture. During my recent visit to Osaka Castle, I was awestruck by the impressive structure and its surrounding grounds. The castle's imposing appearance against the backdrop of the city skyline was truly a sight to behold. As I ventured through its meticulously preserved interiors, I gained a deeper understanding of its historical importance and the rich heritage of the region. The sprawling castle grounds offered a serene escape from the bustling city life. Strolling through the lush gardens, I enjoyed the tranquility and picturesque views of cherry blossoms and traditional Japanese landscapes. The panoramic vistas from the castle's observation deck were breathtaking, providing a panoramic view of Osaka's modern skyline juxtaposed with its historical charm. While visiting Osaka Castle, I also had the opportunity to learn about its role in Japan's history, particularly during the feudal era. The informative displays and exhibits within the castle complex provided insight into the lives of the samurai and nobility who once inhabited its walls. Overall, Osaka Castle is a must-visit destination for those interested in Japan's history, culture, and architectural marvels. Its grandeur and significance make it a captivating experience that offers a glimpse into Japan's rich past while providing a serene and picturesque escape from the city's hustle and bustle.

One of Japan’s most iconic locations and indeed, one of its more impressive castles. Osaka castle is a must see for anyone visiting the city. Don’t make our mistake and buy your ticket online in advance so you can skip the majority of the line. It’s as of September 2023 less than 4 bucks per adult. Be sure to check out your group pricing if you’re coming with a crowd. Students are exempt from payment if they can present proof. Not sure if this applies only to Japanese students or those also studying abroad. Elevators and ramps available, so it is a lot more handicap friendly that some would initially assume. Stunning views from the top floor with some very interesting and unique gallery displays showcasing its art, history, and more. You will see some places indicating where you are not allowed to take photos. Restrooms available. Gifts shops at the top too!

Osaka Castle stands as a majestic testament to Japan's rich history and architectural grandeur. The imposing structure and surrounding expansive grounds transport visitors to a bygone era. The main tower, reconstructed with meticulous detail, houses a museum that delves into the castle's historical significance. Exploring the castle grounds offers a picturesque view of cherry blossoms in spring and vibrant foliage in autumn. The castle's impressive stone walls and intricate design showcase the country's samurai heritage. Whether admiring the panoramic city views from the top or strolling through the Nishinomaru Garden, Osaka Castle provides a captivating journey through time and culture.

Landmark of Osaka that is a must to visit. Osaka amazing pass includes the ticket inside, and enable you to skip the queue. Amazing pass ticket also includes the ticket for boat ride, go if you have time Even if you came after hours and the tower is closed for visit. Just taking pictures in the garden is good enough. The tower is mostly just museum, with a observation deck that is not too high. Not a must go in for me, personally If you are coming with kids, I would suggest visiting the Osaka castle playground that have an impressive slide. It is quite some distance away from Osaka castle, but there is 'train' to transport you there, need to pay

Osaka castle is a really great landmark to visit when in Osaka. I went in the morning which worked out great for lines. Tickets are not hard to purchase through a machine on site. You can take the elevator and stairs through multiple floors of the castle and read a lot about the near by history of the area. The top floor has a great panoramic view of the surrounding city which is beautiful. The castle itself has a gift shop and a stamp to stamp your note book.

A beautiful castle on a huge compound with a dry and water moat and bridges. The main castle sits in the center with an imposing 7 story structure. If you visit, try to get in line for tickets, or better yet, get tickets on-line so you don't have to waste time waiting in queue to get tickets. The top floor is a must visit to get a panoramic view of the castle and it's surrounding. The other floors are great as well that provides the history of its builder and how it was constructed. This is a must if visiting Osaka.

This is probably one of the main landmarks in Osaka. The space of the park is very large and the environment is so refreshing. There are some restuarants and souvenir shops as well. I visited here during a sunny winter day. I think spring is the best time to visit the castle.
Chamal Perera — Google review
Amazing castle with a great museum and informational walk to accompany it. Even though it is not the original castle there are many many cool renderings inside the museum that shows how grand of a castle system it was in the past. The history of the castle is very well laid out and in English too with videos and dramatic clips to engross you in feudal Japan. The area around the castle is just beautiful and very accesible for all
James Garcia — Google review
For me, this was much more than a check the box experience in Japan. To really immerse yourself in what Osaka Castle has to offer, make this a single outing for the day to see as much as possible and go deep into the details of the history of this place. In Western Civilization, much time is spent on Europe in the Middle Ages, here is an open door into Japan's history. Take advantage of the audio player available in the castle, English language available, and listen to each segment on each floor of the castle. There is rich history to learn and understand about Japan and the story behind the castle. Inside and outside the castle, this place can be enjoyed for hours.
Steve Foster — Google review
A great historical museum that is a must visit while in Osaka. A few warnings beforehand: Buy the tickets online to skip the massive queue! Also, be aware that the castle itself is quite a walk from the nearby stations (10-20 minutes walk). Other than that, the castle is super informative and interesting. At the top, you get a 360 view of the city! P.s., you are not allowed to take photos in the castle!

Beautiful area with plenty of history! I loved the bridges and the scenic walk to the castle. Overall I loved the museum experience and the view point so I definitely recommended however, the museum has a very modern feel to it. I was expecting an older traditional feel. We visited in summer and it was about 35 degrees which was quite exhausting. Recommend this place to all tourists and people in the area.

If you visit, Osaka Castle don’t forget to take some time to capture the iconic view of the castle against the backdrop of cherry blossoms if you visit during spring. This place is a historic landmark in Japan and a popular tourist destination. Visitors often appreciate its impressive architecture, beautiful gardens, and historical exhibits inside. Also to make the most of your visit, consider arriving early to avoid crowds, exploring the museum to learn about its history, and enjoying a leisurely stroll in the surrounding park.

If I would need to choose one word to describe Osaka castle I would use word- crowds. You need to stand in a queue to buy a ticket, for the elevator (my advice to take stairs), to see exhibition inside and even to get down. The castle keep is in fact a new built. It is not so much historical and have limited amount of artefacts. For whatever reason you cannot take pictures on floor 3/4. The territory of the castle is quite impressive and really worth visiting.

Osaka Castle is a captivating historical landmark with a majestic presence. The architecture is impressive, reflecting Japanese heritage. The surrounding park and gardens offer a serene escape, perfect for a leisurely stroll. Inside, the museum provides insightful exhibits about the castle's history. While the interior may be less grand than the exterior, the panoramic views from the top floor are rewarding. Overall, Osaka Castle is a must-visit for history enthusiasts and those seeking a glimpse into Japan's rich cultural heritage.

Scenery was really lovely, not too long of a walk, we came here during the late afternoon to evening, enjoyed a meal there while we waited for the sun to set to get some good pictures. So calming, but was a really hot day! Wasn’t too crowded, the drain lids on the ground were pretty, they all had a different images of Osaka castle which I thought looked really cute. Really beautiful and would definitely come again!

It is a very beautiful and impressive castle. As it is relatively centrally located in the park, you have to walk a little way from each station to get there. However, this provides many opportunities to take beautiful photos. Alternatively, a "little train" takes you quite close to it, but from there you also have to walk the last stretch. However, this vehicle does not run so frequently. The ticket for the castle can be purchased quickly online, as there may be a wait to buy the ticket on site. There are also various discounts. There is a breathtaking viewing platform at the top. The individual floors can be reached via stairs, and an elevator is also available if required. The story is told over two floors using various visual displays. It was all really impressive. Hint: Osaka amazing pass

Osaka Castle is a beautiful and highly recommended landmark in the city. Actually, the is a place where you can enjoy a good view of the city from the castle. It is regarded as city’s main attraction. The castle is architecturally beautiful from outside than the inside. There is an adjacent park near the castle which is so beautiful and you can enjoy your time with family.

Amazing museum and beautiful panoramic view of the city. Take the stairs up to appreciate the different museum exhibits as you climb and reward yourself at the top with the city view. The museum is unlike other museums - it gives you a very focused view of history of Osaka castle and the major players involved at the time of Japan’s unification. It’s one of the best museums we’ve been to in regards to how it conveys the significance and importance of its history.

This is one of the best places to see cherry blossoms in Osaka. And you can see most of it without needing to go up to the castle tower. The place is very well maintained, and great for walking around and soaking in local scenery and nature. There are lots of great spots for picnic too, which the locals take full advantage of. The easiest landmark to remember is the natural history museum. The park is a 3 minute walk from there. All in all, great place to visit, especially when the weather is good, and even more so during the cherry blossom season.

Osaka Castle! Osaka Castle is a must-visit attraction if you are in the city. The castle is a beautiful and historic landmark that offers a glimpse into Japan's fascinating past. The castle is surrounded by a moat and beautiful gardens, which make for a lovely walk on a sunny day. The castle itself is very impressive, with its towering walls and beautiful architecture. Visitors can explore the various floors of the castle, which are filled with exhibits and artifacts that tell the story of the castle's history. The views from the top of the castle are also breathtaking, offering panoramic views of the city and surrounding area. The castle grounds are quite large, and there are many other attractions in the area that are worth exploring. There are several museums, temples, and shrines nearby, as well as a beautiful park that is perfect for a picnic or a relaxing stroll. Overall, I highly recommend visiting Osaka Castle if you are in the area. It's a beautiful and historic landmark that offers a unique glimpse into Japan's fascinating past. Just be sure to wear comfortable shoes, as there is a lot of walking involved!

A beautiful must-see in Osaka. The castle is gorgeous and entry is relatively cheap. Good air-conditioning inside is great during the very hot summers, and English explanations are available in de Tower, however there are some grammatically incorrect places. The waiting line is a bit long which can get tedious in hot weather since there is barely any cover. The view from the top is amazing! Worth it in my opinion

Loved it, so unique and special to Osaka. It’s obviously been rebuilt three times and it had been renovated to be a museum inside but it’s still older than many places in America. I loved the artifacts in the museum inside especially so but a ticket online in advance to ship the long lines. It’s a bit of a walk to get to so wear good walking shoes.

A beautiful castle, we really enjoyed it. The best spot for pictures is behind the small lake. It has vending machines for drinks and ice cream, restrooms, even garbage cans. The entrance is free

It was my first time at the beautiful Osaka Castle. The entire place was truly stunning and beautiful. There were so many things to see in and around Osaka Castle. You could get tickets to go inside Osaka Castle, and go all the way up to the top to see the view all around. It was so magical. They also have gift shops, clothing shops and restaurants to eat at. I would definitely recommend seeing this amazing Castle in Osaka. Five out five.

Looks quite amazing to be honest. Big castle that tells the history of the area and how it was build. I recommend you come and if you have the Osaka pass it is included. You can ride an elevator, but there was a long queue when we were there so we took the stairs. The view you get from the top of the castle is quite good

The castle is a must visit landmark when in Osaka. The grounds were well maintained but we did not get the chance to go inside as the castle was closed due to public holiday. Nice walk to get to the castle entrance and very pretty views!

Very cool historical site which has been turned into a museum. Views from the top aren't very spectacular but that's not what you go there for. The architecture on the outside is the most impressive to me and seeing how the Castle evolved through the ages is very interesting. Recommend getting there very early as it's extremely popular and the entry line gets long fast. If you have a pre-paid ticket, or the Osaka e-pass they have a special line for you though. Also, if stairs are our natural enemy, be prepared to wait for the lift or just enjoy the outside instead. With it's rich historical significance, this site is popular for school excursions so if you arrive too late, you will have to deal with late groups of kids in the museum and grounds. If this bothers you, get there at opening time or near closing time after they're gone. The kids are honestly great and very friendly though. A couple of groups let us join their class photos and the more confident ones tried speaking to us in English

I was amazed by this place just after Fuji mt. Very good reserves, beautiful to detail. Must come spot for all tourist over the world. You could buy ticket to go inside the castle to understand more about history of Japan.

It was a double moat. Automatic 5 stars. It’s a nice walk to the castle and the castle itself is amazing, especially up close. I did not go to the top of the castle since you have to pay and I was short on time. There are many food vendors on your way to the castle and rails to assists walking up some of the inclines. It also have ramps in case you can’t take stairs

What a well preserved structure. Externally, it's beautiful. Internally, the top floor gives you a good view of Osaka and the other floors give you history lessons about the castle as well as the founder of Japan. It was an amazing experience.

Nice collection of historical items in a historical site, converted into an impressive museum. Must see 360 view of Osaka from the observation deck. On a busy day the queue for ticketing can be annoying though. We also enjoyed the street food booths around the entrance.

Superb Castle! The museum is really nice too. Learned a lot there. Try to come at opening or else it’s packed. And but your ticket on some app to skip the line! Must see during cherry blossoms.

Okonomiyaki restaurant
Okonomiyaki Mizuno is a renowned eatery in Osaka, specializing in Osaka-style Okonomiyaki pancakes. This popular spot offers a variety of toppings and is particularly known for its vegetarian options. Featured in the Michelin Guidebook for Osaka and Kyoto, it's no surprise that there's always a queue outside this legendary restaurant.
The okonomiyaki was super delicious. We had to place the order from outside the restaurent. They allotted us a table later. The ingradients were prepared for us already. They prepared the okonomiyaki was prepared in our own table. That was a nice and first time experience

Food was above area for the price on the menu. We went for the half half options for ¥2300. Queue was a bit long and it was understandable due to the limited seating and also time needed for preparation and consumption. Overall a great experience, considering that the stall have gotten Michelle awards consecutively for years 👏👏

We queued for a long time for this place and we’re sat right at the chefs table where Omonomiyaki was cooked freshly in front of us. The food itself was tasty and packed with ingredients but it wasn’t a very filling dish so you leave still a bit hungry. It was one of the ‘cheaper’ options in the area. I felt the staff worked very hard and were professional. The atmosphere was great but mainly tourists. I would suggest trying here if your wanting to try Okonomiyaki for the first time.

We had been hearing a lot regarding how the okonomiyaki in Osaka were different from those in Hiroshima and finally got to try the Osaka version. It was arguably as good as the Hiroshima one but cooked a bit differently. Here all the ingredients are consolidated into a single pancake. This restaurant was mentioned in the Michelin guide and there was a queue of people waiting to be seated. We waited for almost 30m but it was well worth it. We had the set meal with pork belly, scallops and a slew of other ingredients and it was delicious. Highly recommended.

(Trip was made back then on 13 Dec 2019, 2 years before the Covid-19 Pandemic hit) There‘s pretty much always a queue for Mizuno. Why? Well they’re purportedly to be one of the best okonomiyaki restaurants in town, being awarded the bib gourmand in the Michelin guide. One of their most popular items is the Yama imo-yaki, is a pancake which uses only mountain potato instead of flour. Honestly, I’m not a fan of the Yama imo-yaki. It had this mushy slimy texture which didn’t go down well with me. As for the conventional pancake, it was good but nothing groundbreaking to make it stand out. The pancake wasn’t dense and can be considered fluffy (but so was Fukutaro’s). Personally my vote goes to Fukutaro.
Shingo Sae-Lim — Google review
Great okonomiyaki place that’s able to comfortably accommodate English-speaking guests. The mountain yam (山芋) okonomiyaki is the star of the shop and offers a nice gooey version of this well known dish. The mountain yam compliments the protein very well and also elevates the crunchiness of the fresh vegetables in the batter. The bit of mustard that they add is a must as the tangy spiciness adds a great balance to the dish. The more common flour version is also available but pales in comparison to the more interesting yam version. Nonetheless, it is still an option for those who aren’t brave enough to try something slightly uncommon. The staff are super friendly and helpful with giving recommendations as well as making sure that all in the queue are comfortable. The restaurant is also very chill about guests taking pictures of the place.

This Michelin bib gourmand establishment has a simple but tasty okonomiyaki made from Japanese potatoes versus using flour. The toppings were fresh and had an amazing char from the flattop grill. Service was fast but seeing the chefs making it in front of you is such a treat so you can see your food being cooked in living color. Also, try their local ginger drink to help with digestion and cleansing your palette between bites.

Waited about half an hour at around midday on a Friday. Orders are placed while in line and we’re told explicitly that no additional orders weee possible once the order is placed. Seated upstairs - take care up and down the little steep steps! Food is cooked in front of you on the table. The chef seemed to speak minimal or basic English but was friendly enough to try and explain every dish with a big smile. Food was amazing. Went for the seafood sets. Great flavours and would love to go ahead if the lines weren’t so big.

We just arrived into Osaka and I had found this restaurant that served okonomiyaki , a Japanese pancake that I needed to try. It was Michelin rated for several years in a row. I’m thinking what an experience at a rated restaurant- wow. I read that there was a lineup before opening at 11 am. So I dragged my friends there for 10 am and waited there for an hour. It was a nondescript looking place, I watched as the lady setup railings for people queuing to get into the restaurant. It transformed a-bit with all the people now gathering. They must have read the same as I did. While in line we were given a menu to order and ended up ordering 3 okonomiyaki to share. Their number 1 & 2 Yaki, yamaimo yaki- with pork belly & shrimp and pork belly and scallops plus the Mizuno yaki. Shortly after 11 am we were lead upstairs to the second floor, got seated and ordered some draft beer. On thé grill, covered it looked like orders were cooking already. A server flipped the yaki and proceeded to add their sauces and gestures to us that it was ready to eat. We had to help ourselves from the grill, this Japanese pancake broke up like a mess of scrambled eggs. I don’t know if it was supposed to be like this??? Then they started to fry the mizuno yaki. After they finished it with an egg and some sauce they indicated it was ready. Now this yaki stayed on the grill longer only because we have not finished with the first 2 yaki yet. I actually prefer the mizuno yaki, it did not fall apart and more like an omelette in consistency. The yaki was okay an experience. The wait staff was not attentive and just going through the motions of cooking. We were somewhat disappointed because the energy/environment was from the guests being in the restaurant only. Overall I was let down- flavour profile not present, service non existent and like a greasy spoon just churn and burn. Not recommended.

Bought my family to try this famous place out during our family trip and gotta say both adults and children loved the food we had here! We had to queue for approximately 20-30 minutes or so but the food arrived quite promptly once we were seated. The portions were generous and the flavours were on point. Best to come here with a bigger group so you can try more items from the menu!

it is a very popular okonomiyaki shop in osaka which is always mentioned in the tour books. lots of tourists and locals were here waiting as early as they open just before lunch time. there weren't too many seats inside so people who wanna try this Michelin's recommended shop, has to be patient. we were seated after a 40mins wait (think it's not too long in average?) at the second floor. quite stuffy it was to be honest. we ordered a yam okonomiyaki cake and a seafood deluxe one. the staff cooked at our front for the yam one (i think it's more watery and difficult to handle). it tasted funny with yam's stickiness and texture. then the seafoood one came as cooked inside the kitchen (so it's not a DIY shop). it was nice with prawns and oysters and many lettuce! and of course, lot of sauce on top! however if you're saying it's the very best okonomiyaki shop and very unique, em, maybe, it's not as its fame.

On a Monday at around 5pm, there was approx 12 people ahead and we waited 20 minutes before getting seated. We placed an order while in line and it was noted that you are not allowed to make changes to the order once placed. There's an upstairs section that can hold 5 parties of 4 and then the downstairs is a single line of 8. The meal is cooked in front of you and you serve yourself with a provided spatula (remember not to leave the serving utensil on the edge bc it's hot!) We ordered the setfor 2 to share amongst 3 and it turned out to be a good amount. The experience was unique but the dish itself was nothing special. I wouldn't advise waiting in a long line if you don't have to and suggest checking out a different instead. Accepts credit card.

This restaurant has won 6 Michelin stars over its lifetime, so expectation was high. It did not disappoint. It's mouthwatering watching the chef at work preparing your meal but the combination of flavours lives up to it. I was a little worried the meals would be small and I would leave hungry, but I need not have worried. We had the Totonburi set. They seat 8 people only so there is always a queue to get in.

A touristy locale, but worthwhile when hungry. There are so many other similar restaurants ,but this one had a wait list. It was a good choice. We had the preset 3 menu with okayonimayaki. They cooked in front of us and asked ingredients to add or omit. Nice preparation and we opted for less mayo and light mustard. Scallops were cooked just right. Great chef and interactive with customers. As always , post wherever your palate guides you to.🤭

I ordered a set of okonomiyaki which were cooked right in front of me at the counter and served as warm, hearty meal in these colder winter days. The chef also checked with me whether I’d like certain ingredients (e.g. nori) or sauces (e.g. mayo) to be added which was nice. I visited in the evening and there was a long queue which took about 20 minutes.

Recently been here on our way to Dotonbori. As usual, you need to wait in line for a bit to dine here. Food was excellent. Each okonomiyaki is cooked differently and it's nice to see how the chef cooks each one in front of you. Do keep in mind that for some, sauces may be overwhelming. I didn't find any uniqueness to the atmosphere.

Michelin star guide for years. At least from what sticked to their door, since 2016 and never missed a year. And it’s not a lie, taste super good. Personally very much like their yaki soba, very good! The scallop okonomiyaki also great, with a juicy and tender scallop cooked perfectly. Long queue, had to wait I think almost 30 mins more to get a seat. Service super speedy, no engagement between staff and guests, speed and high guests turnover. Price was quite high to be honest. But what we get was a good one, and I think it is worth the wait and the money. Find an earlier time to avoid crowd and long queue. Place in general is clean, although tables can be a bit oily.

Needless the say, the food was epic! By far the best okonomiyaki ever tasted. My suggestions for you to go around 3:30 pm latest for an early dinner. There were no wait when we entered. 1 hour later, there was a queue for at least an hour, maybe more.

Food was great 👍 though slight overdose of mayonnaise. Queued for about an hour on a weekday around 1.50pm. It’s worth it. The chef will cook everything for you. You just have to sit back and eat your dishes. Free ice water provided.

We had the 5 different option of okonomiyaki set and we were not disappointed. All the offerings were tasty and it was certainly deserving of all the Michelin awards it has garnered! Must try!

Okinomiyaki Mizuno was a great place to dine. We were on a mission to determine if we preferred Hiroshima or Osaka Okinomiyaki. Our expectations were high here due to its Michelin Guide rating and the fact we needed to line up for 45 minutes. Once seated the food was served quite quickly and the Chefs appeared very happy. We chose the 4500 yen set which came with a few kinds of Okinomiyaki. There was plenty of food to fill us up. Everything tasted great, the food was flavourful and came with various sauces, although it was slightly on the rich side. Unfortunately the Okinomiyaki house we ate at in Hiroshima was hard to beat and took the crown. In comparison, Okinomiyaki Mizuno was twice the price, so there might be better value Okinomiyaki places in Osaka (which we would have looked for if we had more time in Osaka!).
Hayden Butcher — Google review
We tried the Mizuno-yaki, and the Yamaimo-yaki made with Japanese yams (picked the scallops and pork belly as fillings).  Both were made with good quality ingredients, and were rich and comforting, as you would expect from okonomiyaki.  The staff are efficient. One okonomiyaki is a good amount of food, but some other people ordered two okonomiyaki each, which is not a bad idea if you are hungry!  No additions after you order, so make sure you order everything up front (they will tell you this when you order). The place is popular, so expect a long line.  But we went about half an hour before the 11 am opening, and got in with the first seating.  You order your food while you are in line, so by the time you get in, they will have the ingredients ready or have started cooking one of you okonomiyaki.  We were done eating by 11:30, so it's pleasantly efficient.

Takoyaki restaurant
Restaurant
Takoyaki Juhachiban in Dotonbori is a popular spot known for serving delicious octopus-based snacks. The takoyaki, or fried batter balls with octopus, are praised for their perfect texture - crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. The batter is made with dashi, milk, octopus, beni shoga, and shrimp pieces before being fried into spheres in a cast iron pan. These octopus balls contain surprise ingredients that elevate their flavor.
Very found experience to walk around dontonbori street and try all the street food. Our friend from osaka recommended this stall in particular and we weren't disappointed. There was a line when we went but it went by fairly quickly. You have to order and pay through a machine and then get a ticket. Food was good, no complaints.

We had tried takoyaki in Tokyo a week ago at some random place and didn't like it. So, we were convinced that we just didn't like takoyaki. And then we decided to try it while visiting Osaka. And it was much better! I like that you get to order from a machine to customize precisely what you want. They were crispy on the outside, seasoned well, gooey on the inside, and the octopus was cooked appropriately. It was a rainy day when we visited, so eating them warm and freshly cooked made them especially delicious.

Simply delicious and nothing back home in Malaysia can compare in terms of taste and quality to the real deal here. First bite into the crunchy outer layer will burst the creamy inner hot fillings that melts in your mouth. Then, as you chew further the texture of freshly-cooked octopus will spring into life as you munch away. Definitely a taste to savour. 800Y for 8 big pieces is worth the try!

April 2024. We tested the takoyaki once at Osaka. At this stand it was very good. You order through the machine and then they give you your order. We order 2 kind half half, one with the classic sauce and one with salt. It was very warm and good. I really like the salt one as it really complemented the natural taste of the takoyaki.
J — Google review
After trying several takoyaki shops in this area and some in Osaka, I like this one, the most!! They put crispy rice in takoyaki so that you will get the nice texture soft and crispy in the same bite. I had tried : Negi , original and salt. I love salt and Negi, this 2 flavors made me feel so fresh.
Y Methakunvudh — Google review
They are going for the creamy soft texture with crunchy bits which I do enjoy, however, if your dish breaks apart even before you put it in your mouth, it speaks a lot. Skip the negi version as they only put spring onions on it, nothing else. Skip the seaweed with salt too, as it is just a forced variety with no ambition to even be an upgrade/ different dimension on the original sauce one. Palatable, and definitely nice tasting if you like your balls to break apart even before putting them in your mouth.

While each Takoyaki in Osaka is special and different. Juhaichiban make their takoyaki crispy with rice cake as part of the batter. Long lines are expected, but you can order and pay by the machine. Lovely and helpful staff. They do have some small benches at the back if you want to dine in.

One of the best Takoyaki I have had in Japan. There was a queue to order but the line moved reasonably smoothly. You order on a machine and I ordered the spring onion (750¥) for 8. The order came out fresh and on a cool Osaka night these were perfect. Would recommend if in Dotonbori!

I hear that this is a popular place for Takoyaki. They are located in a pretty busy area, so they are hard to miss. You should expect a long line, but the service is quick. I went before new year, so the line was really long, but I was surprised at how fast I was able to order takoyaki. You order through a machine, so it makes it easy and convenient. You put your money in, choose the takoyaki that you want, and then the machine will give you change and the ticket of your order which you will give to someone so that they can take care of your food. You can eat it right away or order it as take out to eat later. I got the green onion, sauce and mayo takoyaki and it was delicious. I can tell the outside of the takoyaki is different from other takoyaki I tried. The texture is different, but it shows you the different types of making it. Personally, I prefer other takoyaki with the solid texture, but I'm glad I tried this one. I recommend trying this place if you really like takoyaki and you want to explore the different shops around here.

Queue was super fast since you order through a vending machine. Cospa was great. Taste was okay, I like how they incorporated tenkasu (fried batter bits) in the takoyaki which adds to their texture, but I wished it still gave some crunchiness on the outer parts of the takoyaki. They were generous with the filling though! You will find a relatively big octopus cut inside! Anyway, worth a try!

It's good, not great. There was a queue and many people were eating it. I personally think that 8 balls are too much so this is good for sharing. Also, they have a variety of flavors and sizes to choose from. I got the 6 pieces for about 550 Yen. They also have a place next door for you to stand around and eat

This takoyaki place is very good and manages to be popular even while being surrounded by fierce competition. You order your takoyaki through a ticket machine on the wall. You can pay with either cash or (japanese) debit card. There is no seating area, so you'll have to eat the takoyaki while standing or find seating nearby on a public bench.

Very fun. You can watch them prep the takoyaki as you stand in line. For us there weren't many people and the line moved fast - it leads you to a vending machine where you can pay for your order and hand the ticket to one of the guys working there. We really enjoyed the takoyaki because these have special tempura flakes so the balls include a nice crunch. The sauces give it an excellent flavor and the texture is pretty unique - gooey and chewy and also crunchy. Definitely a fun place to try. I wanted to try the green onion one but you could only order 8 of those and that was too much for me. ;)

One of the best Takoyaki shops located at the heart of Dotonbori. We ordered the basic set 6 pieces for 500 jpy. The octopus dice is huge, crunchy & the batter is well-seasoned. The taste is truly on point. Please expect long queue for Takoyaki at this shop.

Well I was one of those that saw a long queue think it must be good and march ahead! 😹 The queue moved quickly, you need to use a machine to buy tickets for items you want, and only accept cash. I bought 6 balls (min) and beer. Really goes well together! The ball tasted really crunchy outside and soft and chewy delicious octopus inside. Great sauce and mayo! No complaints. 😄

Another type of Takoyaki, its crispy outside and still creamy inside. The queue was moving very fast, hence no need to worry for it. There are different sauces that you can choose; mayonnaise, sweet sauce or you can mixed both.

Jiyuken is a renowned restaurant that has been serving its signature dish, curry and rice topped with a raw egg, for almost 100 years. The establishment is famous for its old-school vibe and specialty curry, which is directly mixed in with the rice along with onions and beef. In addition to their popular curry dish, Jiyuken also offers hayashi rice, omelet rice, breakfasts, and fried pork cutlet.
The perfect ‘homey’ meal! Jiyuken was an amazing visit for me and my partner. We came here for the first time for dinner (first picture), and were blown away by the pork katsu curry! As someone who loves katsu curry and had only tried it previously in australia, this was by far the best I’ve ever had! It was that good we came back for lunch the next day (second picture). The adorable aunties in the restaurant make you feel extremely taken care of as they constantly refill your water and make you feel right at home. Insanely cheap and huge portion sizes too, the pork katsu curry was only 1050 yen (about $10.50 aud)! Highly recommend this dish specially to those who love a wholesome, homey style curry that makes you feel full!

Be aware that the "Meibutsu" curry rice is spicier than the average Japanese curry and it has a complex flavor to the mix. Mixing with a raw egg is an unique experience which I have never had and doing that at the table feels a little bit funny. I saw other local Japanese people would pour in some soy sauce before mixing which I left out entirely so I couldn't add note to that. The result was also unexpectedly fun. The Katsu pork cutlet was pretty decent and with good portion. But I would only return here again for the curry rice again. Service was pretty good as well the lady owner was very kind to recommend us it's to order and offered my daughter a smaller utensils set.

The main dish is curry rice topped with a raw egg. You mix the egg with the curry and enjoy. Overall, good curry flavor but definitely need to order a set or some meat to balance the curry rice dish. Otherwise it is too plain with just the single flavor. Overall good, but not quite special.

Came here specifically to eat omurice and it was pretty good. Very solid but nothing mind-blowing. I'd probably eat it again. However, the eating experience was way more intimate with a random couple than I would have preferred. I understand that it's Japan and space is limited - but we were put in a corner with the back to my wall and side where there was a clear plastic divider that separated my wife and I with a random couple. It was awkward. They were less than 2 feet away from my face lol. The servers were also not very nice, but I assume that has something to do with how busy it was. When we left at around 1, there were at least 10 people waiting outside. My wife got the pork katsu curry and she said the pork was too fatty and didn't enjoy it.

🍛 Really like their meibutsu curry, it doesn't taste the same with any curry I had before. I had tonkatsu & meibutsu curry for ¥1250 (including free flow of water), so delicious~ 📌 Around 5-mins walking distance from Osaka Namba station exit 18. Recommended place to try an authentic Japanese curry taste in Osaka 💯

It is so Showa period restaurant. 名物curry rice is so delicious and the price is not quiet expensive.

If you're seeking a unique dining experience in the heart of Osaka, look no further than Jiyuken 自由軒 難波本店. This charming Japanese western restaurant has been serving up delectable dishes since its establishment in 1910, and continues to wow visitors with its fusion of flavors. One cannot visit Jiyuken without trying their famous dish, the "omurice." This delicate omlette filled with savory chicken rice is a classic favorite and a true testament to the restaurant's expertise in blending Japanese and Western influences. The balance of flavors, coupled with the perfectly-cooked egg, creates a delightful explosion of taste with every bite. It's no wonder that this dish has become an iconic part of Jiyuken's legacy.

Delightfully savory Japanese curry! I had the tonkatsu which was largely portioned and perfectly cooked. The curry portion was generous. The staff were attentive and cheerful. The restaurant is centrally located on Dotonbori. And the icing? About 1k yen for the whole meal. I could see Jituken earning a Michelin rating.

Historic place. Feels like home. Not fancy, but you can eat it everyday.

This is hands down the best curry I've ever had in my life. We came to Jiyuken knowing it was a favorite spot of famous Japanese Novelist Sakunosuke Oda, and for very good reason! English is available on their menu. Their classic Meibutsu curry tasted just as amazing as it looked in photos, and the curry had the perfect amount of kick. The egg mixing in with the hot curry made it taste even better! It was made very quickly and brought to us by very kind staff. Before coming here, I have never left a restaurant and thought, "should I go back in and order another plate?". If you're in Osaka, you have to visit Jiyuken, no doubt about it!

A local Japanese curry restaurant. I adore the whole vibe, very old school and it mustve been around a for while. The curry is very special, directly mixed in with the rice along with onions and beef. A raw egg on top. It was delicious, never tried anything like it before. I also really enjoyed the fried pork cutlet, very fresh, crispy and hot. A big thumbs up and recommendation. Will be back!

This buffet has over 50 variety to choose from, which includes the famous swiss chocolate, specially imported swiss cheese, n much more.. And the staff here welcome you with a bright smile on there face and help with all the quries regarding the food.. And an added bonus, since this buffet is on the top floor of the swissotel you'll get the best view of Osaka city.. It's definitely a very good experience all together, and I'm eagerly waiting for my next visit. Thank you..😊

I don't usually leave bad reviews, but... We booked a late Sunday brunch that would give us an hour for the buffet. The food was really great. However, the staff started taking away the food from the buffet thirty minutes after we had arrived. After my first plate, I went back to get another plate, but the staff started taking the food away right in front of me. I gave up, went back to my table with an empty plate, and told my (Japanese) wife to hurry up and grab what she could if she wanted more. She went and came back and told me this: The foreign staff (maybe 50% of the workers) were taking food away as she was attempting to serve herself - like literally taking the platter away as she was preparing to serve herself! The Japanese staff intervened once with the sweets and helped her get what she wanted before everything was taken away. Overall, the buffet is good in terms of food quality, but the foreign staff really don't understand good service outside of a superficial level. My family left the buffet hungry, even though we paid about $50 per person. I want to say it's our fault for booking a bit late, but... then why even let us book thirty minutes before the food is taken away? I also trust my wife, and she said that the foreign staff is extremely poorly trained. This is not Japanese-level service. Pretty shameful for a high-class hotel to hire such workers.

Service is great, staff are super attentive, the view is pretty good too. Food selection wise, not too bad, but not the best buffet we've had. The dim sum options are unfortunately somewhat bland, and the Chinese dough sticks too dense. It's not terrible tasting, but personally it's not something to write home about either. FYI, was having the hotel buffet breakfast. Perhaps the lunch or dinner options might be better but not really planning to try them.

It was a bit difficult to find for us, honestly. One set of red elevators will take you to the sixth floor, and the other golden elevators will take you to the 36th floor. It was breathtaking. The view is exceptional, I walked in and my mouth hit the floor, I could not believe that this place was not at capacity 24 hours a day. The menu was a set menu consisting of bread, salads, soups, pasta, then main and dessert. It was a lot of food looking back now, but everything was tasty and delicious. The salads were egg and potato, seafood, and tomato bocconcini. By the time the pasta course came, which was Creamy Salmon, I was worried about not having enough room to finish everything. I had the Strip Loin for mains, which was great. Dessert was the Tiramasu, which was fantastic, of course. Such impressive cocktails as well. The Sweet Escape was especially favourited. A fantastic experience all round.

Apparently they just finished renovating / revamping on June 2017. Almost 360 view of the city is spectacular! Its not a traditional buffet but more of a hybrid. The fee comes with a choice of mains + soup and the appetizers and desserts are buffet (ie all you can eat). Selection for me is good and very satisfied.

Lofty place with a city view from 36th floors of the hotel. Night views around and nice music albeit Ioud for a restaurant. Involves some bistro elements though lacking the vibes. Overall nice experience.

5-stars for the views alone! You can see all of Osaka City in the solid glass walls on either side. The venue has a nice layout, you can have a private table by the windows, or if you want to mingle more you can sit in the center or even stand at the bar. They throw a themed party once a month here with live DJ's and light show. Staff is always very kind. The venue is also available for weddings, parties, conventions, and other events. *Note: I've always been here at an event, so I haven't tried the restaurant, except for a course meal at a ticketed event. The presentation was lovely.

Unagi restaurant
Yoshitora, located in the Honmachi district of Osaka, has been a local favorite since 1922 for its mouthwatering bowls of unagi-don, or freshwater eel rice bowls. Tucked away in a small private walkway, this traditional restaurant offers an authentic Osakan dining experience with conventional Japanese floor seating. While reservations are recommended due to its popularity and limited space, visitors can expect friendly staff and top-notch service.

Food was great but what really stood out was the service, top notch. Next time I’m in Osaka, I’ll be back.

Didn't book a table and went there in last minutes, I was lucky to had a taste. Simple set menu for lunch (grilled eel over rice with a choice of soup), staff are really friendly but can't speak English. There's kaisaki style option for dinner with more choices for food. Traditional Japanese building and atmosphere, if you're an eel lover, it's definitely worth to try
Yuanyuan Ma — Google review
We went there randomly without reservation -- it's a bit hidden also. Looks like a very traditional restaurant from, both, the outside and inside. The staff does not speak english so placing an order was a bit difficult, but not a problem. The meal was great, we had a dish with eel (unagi). It is definitely located in the higher price range though and therefore seems good for special occasions.

Super nice and authentic food! The staff there are all very friendly and it's a good environment for dining there. Recommending booking in advance as it can get very busy during lunch hours.
