Interesting museum and house with information about how grape wine making was introduced to Japan. Everything was in Japanese, but google translate app did a fairly good job translating the information boards. Lovely garden surrounding the house. You have to take shoes off but slippers are provided for the main parts. Remember to remove slippers for the tatami mat areas. The video was in japanese, but it was still lovely to see the images of the wine making process. Two lovely Japanese women greeting us and tried to use their translation app to communicate with us. They kept our bags whilst we wondered around the museum. It was pouring with rain, and my paper bag with two bottles of wine had a hole, so they put it in two plastic bags and a cloth bag just in case! It was very sweet of them. I gave the cloth bag back as we were taking the taxi back to the station and the plastic bags were sufficient.

Keijiro Amemiya purchased the current Chuo Line, Kobu Railway, Kawagoe Railway, and vast land in Karuizawa, planted the current deciduous pines and broad-leaved trees, and created Karuizawa. The winery itself boasts a stunning location below the Chichibu range and provides tours of its operations, including an option for a premium tour guided by the vineyard owner.
Beautiful winery. We went to another winery in Kochu and this winery tasted a lot better to us. I found a really nice red wine with fragrant barrel flavor (see photo). (Translated by Google) Tasting is systematic and educational. Nowadays, when tasting wine at wineries, you no longer have to pour yourself an unlimited amount of wine from a bottle or barrel; instead, most wineries charge a fee for a 20ml sample. Among these, our tastings are very ambitious, such as comparing the characteristics of each variety and model year, as well as comparing the taste of new sake (of course, it's not free). However, if you visit about 5 companies and drink 20 glasses for a 20ml cup, it will cost you 400ml, so you will get a lot of money.

Nice winery providing 95% of Koshu of the region. Testing room is available

No idea what was wrong with the guy with glasses working in the counter. Real rude! We just turned around without having any interest trying out their wine. Were looking forward to taste their wine after hearing so much good about it. One person can destroy a brand a lot! Maybe he had a bad day?!

Good wine but staff seems not friendly to visitors

One of the best wineries in Koshu and I'm very satisfied with their wines which are very balanced and yet fruity. The staff has introduced the wines very well and very helpful. Very good experience there.

Good wine, not overpriced. Pay to taste system uses a pre-paid card, but if you find your bottle you can put any remaining credit plus the "card fee" (so long as you return the card) towards the purchase of the bottle. They also hold tasting classes by reservation.

Udon noodle restaurant
皆吉 is a traditional Japanese restaurant that offers a delightful dining experience, showcasing their specialty of housemade udon noodles served in a flavorful broth. Situated in a charming rustic setting with tatami mat seating and an exquisite garden, this establishment exudes an old Japanese-style atmosphere. Renowned for their houtou dish, which combines vegetables, udon noodles, and miso soup, 皆吉 stands out as one of the finest options in Yamanashi.
Beautiful house with a scenic outdoor garden. We enjoyed the speciality hotto udon with hot soup and the chewy texture of the cold noodles.

If you are looking for some typical regional dish (Houtois a dish with vegatables, udon and miso soup), here you should go. There are a lot of Hotou in Yamanashi but this restaurant is certainly the best one. the atmosphere is old japanese styl house with the nice garden. I have tried couple of these dish and if you are looking for the quality wise, this place is for you.

Highly recommended traditional Japanese restaurant specialising in houtou, a flat type of home made udon, served in very rich vegetable soup in a pot. Beautiful garden complements to he experience.

The service is so slow. We needed to wait for almost an hour to eat. Avoid this place when you are hungry.
