Yantai

Yantai encompasses a port city and its surrounding area in eastern China's Shandong province. In the north is Penglai Pavilion, a centuries-old clifftop pagoda overlooking the Bohai Strait. Farther east, connected to the mainland, Zhifu Island is the site of Neolithic artifacts. Nearby, Changyu Wine Culture Museum offers insight into the region’s wine production and Fisherman’s Wharf is home to restaurants and bars.

I was here with a tour group in late April 2016. I had a good feel of what mainland Chinese wine cellars looked like. Many of the information there were dated and I was surprised that the brand did not seem to be able to expand its market despite its historical edge!

Best museum to learn about the wine culture and history in China! This museum is more educational, while the other Changyu museum/tourist spot is more for people who are interested in tasting wine. Plus, it's so close to the historical district and the ocean.

Thanks to the wonderful students, people and city of Yantai for letting me experience a fascinating museum that reflects the wonderful, but complex relationship between China and the world. The Germans gave China the gift of modern wine production. With it, the hard work and ingenuity allowed Chinese people to expand and improve the wines over the years. The museum is a gem- as great an experience as the Napa Valley vineyards or the caves of Epernay. Special thanks to SDIBT, which invited me in March 2016 to teach a course on Real Estate and finance. The students were bright and the hospitality was epic. I hope to return soon to teach (and learn ) again. Yantai was once an American navy base until 1938. I can imagine that the American missionaries, traders and military enjoyed the hospitality. The city has many things to see and I hope to see it in the summer some day when the beaches are full.

(Translated by Google) I went there at the end of November last year. It occupies a large area and is dominated by European manor buildings. Wine-making equipment and wine storage are displayed in the basement. There are large vineyards around the winery; the overall scenery is good. Penglai Chun is an Asian restaurant where you can confidently place an order even if you don't speak Chinese. The menu offers a diverse selection of dishes prepared using fresh ingredients. The restaurant is known for its Nochae cuisine, which was created to honor Jin Shi Huang and has gained popularity in Yantai, where the restaurant is located. Apart from enjoying the famous Yantai Kaoliang liquor, guests can savor a delicious dinner with other alcoholic beverages.
(Translated by Google) You can order even if you don’t know Chinese. The walls are full of photos of each ingredient and cooking method, so you won't have any trouble ordering. The menu is quite diverse, and probably because it is made with fresh ingredients, the dishes are generally delicious. Penglaichun is said to be a place where you can enjoy a variety of old vegetable dishes, which were developed in the Lu Dynasty to serve as a gift to Emperor Qin Shi Huang. Although I went there without prior information and only ate the foods I was familiar with, the taste was excellent. Since it's located in Yantai, I tried to order Yantae Gaoryangju together... but it seems like they don't enjoy Yeontae Gaoryangju here. There is none. So, I enjoyed a delicious dinner with other Kaoliang wines. If I have the chance to go to Yeontae again, I would like to stop by again and enjoy other menus.

(Translated by Google) It doesn't seem like a very good restaurant. But it doesn't taste bad It tastes good, but it doesn't seem to live up to its reputation. Did you expect too much...? It seems that a lot of Koreans and tourists go there. The price of sweet and sour pork, which always appears on blogs, has risen a lot. It's 58 yuan. Sweet and sour pork has a lot of fat and the meat smells like meat.
