Hiking area
The Anza-Borrego Desert State Park Visitor Center is situated in the picturesque desert town of Borrego Springs, Southern California. This charming village is surrounded by the stunning landscapes of the 600,000-acre Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, featuring wildflowers, palm groves, and rugged canyons. As the only International Dark Sky Community in California, it offers unparalleled stargazing opportunities with its clear night skies.
Stopped here on the way through the desert and decided to go on a hike. Visitors center recommended the Slots and the Palm Canyon trail. The Palm canyon trail was pretty awesome to see all the Palms at the Oasis. Almost all of the trees in the canyon were uprooted during a heavy rain and some of the others due to fire. It was a little unexpected to see so many of them at the end of the trail. The trail is out in the open during the beginning so best to go early morning during the summer. The Slots were pretty neat as well and we did them later in the afternoon as the high canyon walls give a bit of shade during the day. Some of the trail is a little tight and can be a bit of a squeeze. The wind coming through the slots was awesome as it was over 100 degrees. There are also many wind caves towards the end of the trail that look like beehives from the distance. Overall it was such a great experience we decided to rent a campground and stay the night to look at the stars. Campground was clean and had clean showers and bathrooms. I will definitely go back here when looking for a place to camp on the West Coast.

Awesome park with a lot of amazing desert and mountain scenery! Love the trails, and flower blooms. Great metal art along the freeway as well. Would definitely recommend visiting, especially during super bloom! It can get a bit crowded, but well worth it.
Volodymyr Korsun — Google review
One has to be there to truely experience the majestic mountains, and sound of the oasis at Palm Canyon Trail. If lucky, one can encounter residents of the desert. It is a beautiful place to visit, hike, and occasionally hear the howling of coyotes. Best seasons to come: fall, winter, and spring. We hike the Palm Canyon Trail and visited the oasis in the desert. The palm trees were burned in a 2020 fire and have a remarkable recovery in less than 2 years.

Clean bathrooms, public WiFi, a very nice and reasonably priced gift shop, exhibits, well produced short film + VERY friendly and helpful staff...!

Stunning! Visited in the first week of April. Saw the flowers in Henderson canyon though most of the verbena were being chewed up by the caterpillars. But the cactii were starting to bloom. We were there only for a day and did not have a 4wd so couldn't see a lot of it but whatever we could was beautiful. I wanted to see desert lilies and saw so many! I've not seen so many different types of wildflowers and this place was full of them. I'll definitely visit again to see the sights that I missed this time with more time and a better vehicle. Oasis hike was also great.

This is a cute park nature center surrounded by a beautiful garden with labeled native plants. Inside were informative dioramas, a movie theater and a very nice gift shop. It was hot out and they let us watch a couple of nature movies
Crystal Jean Baranyk — Google review
My wife and I had a great experience here, we saw the beauty of God's creation. We couldn't go out hiking to where more flowers were blooming because the park Ranger stated the weather's temperature was too high for people to do any hiking. But we got matching tee shirts with the park's logo on them and 2 bumper stickers that showed the beautiful scenery. We drove just a little over 100 miles. Definitely next year were going to plan a early trip out there again and also going to the lake that's not far from there. I recommend for those to go out and experience what our world has in natural beauty.
Henry Ortega — Google review
The visitor center was really well staffed, clean and the gift shop was very reasonably priced. They had presentations at set times during the day which was really lovely to hear about (Though we didn't quite arrive at the right time to see one ourselves due to wanting to leave early for the trail). The shop had maps, guides to local insects and other local fauna/flora, hats/shirts and other trinkets. We stopped by here to ask for some recommendations of the nearby trails that had good wildlife and a place to see the wildflowers. Palm canyon was one that was recommended and it did not disappoint in the slightest! All in all, lovely visit made especially memorable thanks to the very knowledgeable and friendly workers.

Wonderful Visitor Center not to be missed! Highlight is the short video showing the varied fauna and flora during the desert's four seasons. Many displays for young and old alike and a MUST SEE when you are visiting the area. Beautiful collection of desert plants. Such a scenic area! Allow at least an hour to take everything in. They have ADA restrooms and entrances, as well. Don't forget this is a CA State Park area so you'll need to pre-pay at the self-service kiosks and place your ticket on your dash. Plenty of large parking areas for RVs with toads, too!

Amazing place to visit in the weekend. Almost like going back in time living in a western movie. Had an old western town to visit. Lots of trails to see and walk, watch out for snakes though. Great curves going down and up hold if you like curve roads or ride motorcycles. But great for the family to go and visit. And if you stay at night, up will see all the constellations in the sky due to the area being a dark night society with no lights.

Very informative busy place. Arrive early. They will give you recommendations based on what you want to see. Nice garden area around the visitor center.

Love Henderson Canyon when in bloom. Also discovered the Desert Garden area. Much less crowded on a week day than we expected. Weather was cool when we went which made it all the more enjoyable
Abigail Howell — Google review
During our visit in January weekend this place was pretty crowded, long line to pay for park pass. The information line was better. The ranger that helped us was very knowledgeable and friendly. He told us there was a stargazing event that night and told us when to go and where to go. Unfortunately that night wasn’t a clear night so didn’t see much stars.

Got to see the bloom in the lower park. Station was friendly, informative and interesting. Watch the short movie! Buy something at the gift shop! It's all good

Galleta Meadows is a unique desert sculpture park located along the Southern California S-3 highway in Borrego Springs. Created by artist Ricardo Breceda, the park features over 130 massive metal sculptures known as "Sky Art." These sculptures include creatures such as elephants, raptors, dinosaurs, mammoths, saber-toothed tigers, serpents, horses, and even a sloth.
Galleta Meadows is an awesome place to visit in Borrego Springs with animal and human sculptures spread across the town and valley. There close to 100 sculptures of animals and humans and it is truly an incredible collection of art sculptures with many appearing life like. Great for photo opportunities and can easily spend a few hours to see and try to find all the sculptures, but well worth it.
Brendan Kiely — Google review
Lovely little drive (came through Julian entrance). Make sure you bring extra water because it gets HOT! The statues are wonderful to look at. You can google the locations of them all beforehand and screenshot the map since service tends to get lost since this is a remote area in the desert. The dragon is by far the largest sculpture. Some of the sculptures are accessible by walking only since some of the dirt roads have been blocked off to preserve the area. Also, some of the dirt roads are very bumpy with deep holes so make sure you drive carefully or take a 4x4.
amber enriquez — Google review
Sculpture in the Meadows run through Borrego Springs both North and South of the roundabout in town. You can drive up to many to get a close view and see the beautiful and detailed works of the artists. This is a must do in the area and worthwhile time spent viewing.
c “cfl” lane — Google review
The sculptures are amazing. The amount of detail is incredible. The road getting there is rough at times. But absolutely worth the drive. The serpent alone is worth the drive. And it's free
Gary — Google review
What a fun place to explore and I don't even think we saw everything. I guess there is bunch of different Metal Sculptures thru out Borrego. The dragon one is cool and the scorpion and cricket one is pretty cool. The scorpion you can actually drive up to and some other animals. The dragon..no they have it stringed off but you can walk up close to it and take pics. We drove off to another road and saw a hawk or eagle one and horses. Half a day trip then enjoy the small town they have there.
Heidi Kindel — Google review
Loved being able to get up close to most of the sculptures. Some are closed off to vehicles now and it was too hot to walk out to them. Very impressive!
Sara Hoege — Google review
Wonderful place to visit is definitely worth going during the daytime. Because at night or closer to dark you can't see much
Godzuki26 — Google review
This is such a neat place! There are many different sculptures spread across the desert. It’s private land but the owner generously allows visitors to come experience the sculptures, and it’s free to visit.
Gretchen Mominee — Google review
Really cool place that you can drive up to and take pictures of all the sculptures. If your in the Borrego Springs area, it's a must see especially with how easy it is to access and check out. Definitely find a map of all the sculptures and save yourself some time!
Shawn Hunter — Google review
What’s not to like? These sculptures are scattered all over this massive park. You don’t have to see them all, but use them as little stopping points on your way to other things.
Nicole Ridgely — Google review
“I had the wonderful opportunity to visit the charming town of Borrego Springs. After finishing my activities, I decided to venture out and stumbled upon the enchanting Galleta Meadows Estate. The estate boasts a collection of stunning and one-of-a-kind sculptures scattered throughout the area. It was truly a mesmerizing experience to walk amidst these artistic wonders. If you’re ever in the area, I highly recommend paying a visit to witness these beautiful sculptures firsthand.”
Carolina Camero — Google review
It was such a great experience driving around to find the sculptures.
kat ben — Google review
Spectacular metal sculptures all over the place. We only visited 53 while more than 100 should be out there. Some Google Maps coordinates of certain sculptures are not correct. But that is not a real problem, because you will see most of them from a distance!

Nice little place for a rest and sight see some awesome art sculptures if you are in the Borrego area. I was there during some beautiful rainy weather :-)
Orion Hauk — Google review
It was really cool. You can see all metal sculptures by driving in the area except the dragon!

Amazing spot for some night photography, unfortunately I may have dropped my memory cards at the scorpion or serpent. Still a great (and eerie) experience attempting to get the right shot in pitch black and dead silence!

The art center in Borrego Springs, located in the desert, serves as a remarkable source of inspiration. The institute was established thanks to the efforts of local philanthropists around a decade ago, bringing immense benefits to the community. Both the art institute and its adjoining restaurant may have varying operating hours depending on the season, but it is undoubtedly one of the top attractions when visiting Borrego Springs.
This is always a must-stop on my visit to Borrego Springs. Located right on Christmas Circle. The exhibits are outstanding. They showcase artists while one has the opportunity to see our beautiful desert landscape through their eyes. Be sure to pursue the gift shop. Again, everything reflects the talents of our artists.

Samuel Christian — Google review
to see an art institute in the middle of the desert is quite an inspiration. Local philanthropists pulled together about 10 years ago and made this happen for the local community. Hours may be seasonal for both the Art Institute as well as the attached restaurant, Kesling's Kitchen, but these, along with the other great shops and restaurants in Borrego are worth the visit. Most impressive, just like the unique sculptures scattered all over the desert in Borrego Springs, no tax dollars, government agencies, or outside developers have been involved in these local improvements.

Borrego Palm Canyon is a popular spot near Borrego Springs, just 8 minutes away from downtown. It's a great hike for families, but it can get hot, so it's best to visit in the winter, spring, or early morning. The trail is about 3 miles round trip and some sections are still closed due to a past fire. The canyon features flowing water and a desert oasis.
Borrego Palm Canyon is a great trail to hike and see some great scenery, explore a canyon, and see a large oasis. The hike is about 3 miles round trip with a separate optional return trail that leads back to the parking lot. The trail follows a wash up the canyon with a great oasis as a reward as the end. A great trail to hike if visiting Anza Borrego State Park or Borrego Springs. Best to hike in the early morning on hotter days.
Brendan Kiely — Google review
I recently hiked the Palm Canyon dessert trail and had a wonderful experience. The trail is an in-and-out route, culminating in a stunning palm oasis that, while not accessible due to habitat preservation, offers a serene spot to rest and enjoy the surroundings. The best time to hike is in the morning when there are fewer people, allowing for a more peaceful experience. The trail is also very kid-friendly, with easy terrain that even young hikers can manage. Overall, it's a fantastic hike for nature lovers of all ages.
Elias V. — Google review
There is a gift shop and snack bar at the parking lot. Adjacent to the parking is an ancient palm grove that has provided for the local native Americans for generations. Several hiking trails lead off into the desert and mountains.

Great hike for the early Spring. Lots of wildlife and flowers. Easy hike with some river crossings and some rock climbing that could be hard for older or handicapped folks.
Terence Curren — Google review
This trail surprised me. I meandered for a while, finding the trail and then hearing water. Followed the water up. Lots of bouldering and looking down where you step with all the rocks. Many alternate paths, I went up a completely different path than I came down. It's about 1.4 miles to get to the Palm Oasis, took almost two hours roundtrip. In April after a wet winter, there was plenty of water coming down, very pretty. You could still cross the river though which was nice. $10 day pass to park.
Jenny Robinson — Google review
Great easy hike (although a bit long for kids)! All you see is desert and then all the sudden you come across the oasis. It’s amazing!
Sarah — Google review
We hiked the trail yesterday. It's a beautiful trail and wildflowers are starting to show. Tread mindfully if you decide to get closer to the stream or decide to pause at a rock, they grow around them too. We took the trail that followed the water and had two stream crossings to get to the start of the oasis. We learned from other hikers that there is an alternate trail with no water crossings. We didn't see any bighorn sheep but very much enjoyed the easy hike. Pick up a brochure at the trailhead entrance which will interpret the sights at numbered markers (we forgot to do this) and bring water. It's not a long hike but it's warming up so you will need to stay hydrated :-) We were also glad to have a hand towel and extra socks.
Heng Lam Foong — Google review
Great hike! Really neat going deep into the canyon. The geology is more complex than initially thought or seems. Really cool. The alternative route is really special definitely recommend taking that route on way back. We Love this park it always amazes us.
Carlos Archuleta — Google review
It took us almost two hours there and back again at a moderate pace. Stream crossing twice on the way. Look below your feet for lizards and snakes - we saw a big western diamondback rattlesnake! Look up for bighorn sheep on the rocks. The beauty of palm oasis is unmatched and provides shade. Bring plenty of water and sunscreen. Open sky restrooms at the parking lot.
JitkaKac — Google review
Borrego Palm Canyon is a joyful and peaceful hiking spot. The 1.5-mile trail leads to an overlook with views of the post-fire palm recovery. Don't forget to bring enough water; I took 0.75L, but it wasn't sufficient for the dry air and upper 80s temperatures.
Gala Gala — Google review
An awesome hike for families! Borrego Palm Canyon was beautiful this weekend. It can get really hot so time your adventure in the winter, spring or early in the morning. A sign said it was lambing season (February), but we only spied adult sheep. Bring water and snacks. Our trek was about 3 miles round trip, with some sections of the canyon still closed- due to a fire a few years back. With littles, anticipate about 30 minutes a mile. I was shocked at how much water was flowing down. A true desert oasis! Please note, dogs are not allowed on this trail.
Tim Yargeau — Google review
Great hike not too hard or Long. Usually has water and might see some big horn sheep
Chuck Lawrence — Google review
One of the best trails in the Anza Borrego SP. It is short, about 3 miles round trip, family friendly, full of beautiful surprises especially in winter. We hiked this trail with our two kids, they spend a lot time playing with the water and rocks. At the end of trail is the palm grove, they seem caught fire but still alive. The creek is full of water and mini waterfalls. I enjoyed this trail so much, highly recommend it.

Red Ocotillo is a popular restaurant in Borrego Springs, known for its delicious farm-to-table cuisine. Located just off Christmas Circle, this charming spot serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a menu featuring fresh garden salads, burgers, steaks, pasta, soups, and desserts. The restaurant's quaint atmosphere and high-quality food make it a favorite among locals and visitors alike.
Came for lunch after a hike. Sat out on the huge covered patio and enjoyed the views of the flowers and mountains. Food took a bit to be served, but not horrible. Had fish tacos (a little bland and the fish is breaded) and a Reuben sandwich (awesome with huge chunks of corned beef). Prices were not outrageous. Staff very nice.

Quaint little oasis with fresh and high quality food for all times of the day. Being our first time in Borrego Springs, we were suprised by the food options in this little town. Summer is the off season, but there is still a good handful of choices to eat. We chose the Red Ocotillo after finding out what the ocotillo actually is. It's the plant that grows in abundance in this area and it's pretty cool looking. We stopped in for breakfast. This place is charming and quiet. There seemed to be one waitress working at the time and she was hustling all over that place. She was fantastic. There seems to be a separate menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner here. For breakfast we ordered for the four of us pancakes, a breakfast plate with eggs, sausage and toast, biscuits and gravy (I'm still trying to find one that lives up to my standards after growing up in Oklahoma) a breakfast burrito and huevos rancheros. The food is fresh, made homemade and comes out piping hot. This place is truly a gem. I don't care the price, because for this quality of food and to have the pretty views of the desert; priceless. My biscuits and gravy were flavorful and pretty close to what I had growing up, the pancakes were fluffy and delicious, burrito was well balanced and savory and my huevos rancheros were light but flavorful with killer salsa. Honestly, everything was really good and we probably will end up back there for dinner. The homemade potatoes were also probably the best I've ever had. I don't think you'll find ultra trendy foods or techniques used here, but the food is anything but stale and flavorless. It's almost like the comfort of eating at a diner, but minus the greasy and low quality food. I really enjoyed our breakfast and I'm sure we'll be back. Also, after having our battery die in the parking lot, the staff helped us jump our car and get back on the road. Thanks to the Red Ocotillo for the great food and hospitality we were shown and for our first visit to Borrego Springs, the staff and food will definitely make us want to return. Until next time.

First off the wait time was about 45 min to dine in which is kind of a stretch to wait for food. They seem to have a fair amount of staff and not sure of many kitchen crew they had. I ordered a number 1 burger combo( bacon avocado cheese) with a Caesar salad. They got my order incorrect and gave me a regular burger. The meat was pretty bland with no flavoring. Order it medium rare but it was more of medium well and dry. The Caesar salad with soggy and didn’t have any crunch. Was recommended by a local to check it out was disappointed in the end. My girlfriend ordered a quesadilla with a fruit cup but they gave her a grilled cheese instead which was another mistake. I wouldn’t come here again if I visited Anza Borrego.

We read the reviews about how long it takes at this restaurant so we were prepared it was going to take awhile but by the end of our visit I was so frustrated that we cannot give more than 3 stars. The servers were very nice, the food was good but to wait over an hour for a club sandwich and a hamburger was hard. If our food would have been amazing maybe I would have been happier. Their prices are higher than normal. Our observations were if you sit inside or on the covered patio next to the door your service is going to be better. We sat outside at the furthest table from the door. I finally went inside to pay our bill and our server told me it was too hot to walk that far. We will not be going back.

Service was so so, my breakfast was cold while his was warm. It was good but took an hour and a half to get poached eggs, toast, potatoes and tea. It had plenty of seating and plenty of staff running around.

Service was slow but that just might be Borrego in general all restaurants around here seems like it takes forever. The chicken Parmesan is as okay. The chicken was good but sauce was quite sweet for marinara sauce. Fish and chips were a little greasy. Slaw was also sweet. Fries were stale.
Kristina Bolt — Google review
We stop here often when we come out to Anza. The plating is appealing, the food is decent. The prices are comparable. Whether you get a nice cold beer or an Arnold Palmer, always a thirst quencher! The service has always been slow, but I have never had speedy service anywhere in Anza-Borrego. Now here’s the best part, they are expanding with a new outdoor venue, It’s Beautiful!

One of the finest hamburgers I've had. Perfectly cooked and seared high-quality beef with cheese, bacon, avocado, tomato, and red onion on a fresh brioche bun with a pickle. Served with mayo, mustard, and ketchup on the side so you can customize it. Many side options, and the coleslaw I chose had all the classic elements in perfect balance. Very nice outdoor seating too.

Good Mexican place. Nice friendly atmosphere. Be ready for long wait time or line to be seated on weekends, sometimes 45 mins or even longer

Still my favorite place in town. I've been stopping here for years after work. Food is reliable quality, organic and they make accommodations for vegetarians/vegans. Like the calm atmosphere, I usually site outside so I can listen to the birds. A note for those visiting from out of town, if you are in a rush pick up something from the market none of the restaurants are speedy. Welcome to the desert, take it easy and learn to relax it's too hot to rush.

I asked a friend for the best eggs Benedict in town and she referred me here, sure it was good I finished the entire plate but that never happens and I was still hungry. Grateful for the complatary coffee cake which was great. The outside patio is really beautiful and charming and peaceful. Dog friendly -ish.

We were aware it could take up to 60 minutes. We ordered 3 sandwiches (one turkey sandwich and two BLTS) during their lunch time. It took 94 minutes from the time we ordered to get our incredibly mediocre food. The waitress was so insanely rude when we inquired about the wait. Quite possibly the worst dining experience I’ve ever had, we had to laugh at how bad it was, but we also missed out on doing tons of stuff because we spent over 2 hours in this god forsaken restaurant.

Great food, service at the bar, and cold 🍺. I ordered the #2 burger with tots and a cup of chili. I was very impressed with the size and flavor of everything, will recommend to anyone coming through this area

Food was really good, but just had a sandwich. Enjoyed the potatoe salad. Kitchen seemed a little slow, but they were quite busy and expected. It's a nice place, I will return and definitely recommend giving it a try.

Great spot for a bite to eat, we got in early in the morning and didn’t want to make breakfast so we decided to give this spot a go. Cute spot I would recommend if you’re not in the mood to make breakfast 😂

Carmelita's Mexican Grill is a laid-back and long-standing eatery with quirky decorations, serving up classic Mexican dishes alongside happy hour specials and televised entertainment. Located in a modest mall, it offers hearty lunches, dinners, and delightful pomegranate lemonade. Visitors can also enjoy the vibrant atmosphere with good vibe music while savoring traditional enchiladas or rancheras for dinner. The restaurant prides itself on cleanliness, spaciousness, and courteous service from its professional staff.
This was our first time eating at Carmelita's Mexican Grill, and it was excellent. We ate the traditional and rancheras enchiladas for dinner; they were absolutely delicious. The restaurant itself was very clean and quite spacious, but the good vibe music contributed the most to the atmosphere at Carmelita's. The staff were courteous and professional; doing everything they could to serve the large numbers of people there. We were very satisfied with the service, quality of the food, cleanliness, and pricing. Hence, if you are craving Mexican food in Borrego Springs, consider eating at Carmelita's Mexican Grill - don't just take my word for it!

Just arrived in Borrego Spring and hungry. Not too many choices in town but we decided to drive to Carmelita’s. They are doing takeout only at this time. We ordered food to go. Friendly staff and great food! Refried bean and rice were delicious! Chicken tortilla soup was tasty and not salty; the tortilla strips were still crunchy. Yum!

Food is ok. Service is less than average. Cash only payment option. Atmosphere is 2.5 out of 5. Because of the absence of competition cafe is busy otherwise it would be empty.

The food here was good! Service was a little slow, and we had a hard time getting our check so we could leave. I think they were just busy and getting ready to close. It’s a good place to go after a hike!

Service: Extremely poor. Folks seated in front of us asked for silverware 2 times. Folks behind us asked for chips-salsa 2-3 times. Also, no one took our order for a long time and then two different people came to take our order. We weren’t sure if we were going to get our food😁 and we didn’t get our food for a very very looooong time. We asked 3 different servers to check our food. We asked to talk to the manager; there was no manager. We asked to talk to owner; there was no owner around. Ambiance: Decent. The outdoor patio was quieter and much nicer. Indoors it seemed very noisy. Restroom was clean. Food: Chips-salsa were good. Food was okay in taste, nothing great. It was nice and piping hot. I would not recommend this place. Service is terrible.

The family really enjoyed the food. The Chili Verde was tender and moist and spicy. The breakfast burrito was very tasty. The shrimp enchiladas was okay but I wasn't wowed. The house margarita was good and strong.

Food was great, staff is friendly. Service is a tad bit slow to our liking but we didn't mind it a lot as we got our food super hot and tasty. Ambience is appropriate to the desert climate. Definitely try the margaritas.

This was our first time at this location and so when we saw a sign for Carmelita's Mexican Grill we were excited and decided to stop. We entered through the Cantina and were greeted by staff and noticed the immediate smell of the Mexican food. Our first introduction was the salsa and chips which were great! Our server Adrianna was at our table quickly and friendly. We noticed that after giving our request that she was all over the restaurant serving all the other tables like a bubble bee at each flower. We got our food pretty quick and we noticed immediately how hot it was and when it cooled a bit just how great it was too. I had the beef Chimichanga and it was cooked to perfection along with rice and beans. We also had the shrimp fajitas which my wife tells me were absolutely divine and she couldn't stop eating because they were so good. The freshly made corn tortillas were a big hit at he table as well. All in all our luncheon was outstanding and the service was excellent, thanks to Adrianna and staff who were so friendly and courteous. We have scheduled to return to Borrego Springs in a few months to enjoy another great luncheon.

Convenient location but food is average. Nothing special or extra tasty. Parking is plenty! I agree with other reviews where customer service is bad. They brought us water when we first arrived but when we were ready to order, I could not catch any of the waiters’ eyes/attention! Even when it came to paying the bill, we walked up to the register and STILL had to wait for our specific waitress to come. Ridiculous! We ordered the meatball soup and only the meatball was good. Everything else was super average. The taquitos were perfectly crispy but flavor didn’t jump out to me. The drink was ok too.

I used to live near this restaurant and I was very excited to be able to go back. We loved the food here back then. They have done some beautiful upgrades inside and out, but the food was so disappointing!!! First and foremost they do NOT have a kids menu. When I asked why I was told, oh well everyone prefers to share with there kids or go alacart. We do not. My son unfortunately is very particular. His meal ended up being just about as expensive as ours! My husband and I wanted a combo order and I admit I’ve not seen this before, they have a “basic” option. And if you go beyond basic they nickel and dime you for every single thing. My food was not that great, a friend said it reminded her of del taco sauce. The chips were stale and the salsa tasted like tomato sauce. Service definitely could have been better. We waiting almost 20 minutes just for a glass of water. There are other fabulous options in Borrego but for us this was the last time we will be spending any money at this location.

Located in the middle of an arid landscape, Kesling's Kitchen impresses with its unpretentious ambiance, featuring a kitchen and pizza section that are openly displayed. The pleasant aroma pervades the entire establishment. Although the scorching heat forced us to dine indoors, they do offer outdoor seating. We indulged in a delectable shared sandwich and rice pudding, both of which were delightful. While we didn't sample their pizzas, they certainly appeared authentic!
We just came across Kesling's Kitchen just looking for a quick bite. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the food was delicious! We had the Fish & Chips, a Fried Chicken Sandwich and a Greek Salad. I would recommend all of them.

For being in the middle of the desert this place is really good. The setting is unpretentious with the exposed kitchen and pizza area. The entire place smells good. Was super hot when there so had to stay inside but outdoor seating is available. Shared a sandwich and a rice pudding, both delicious. They have pizza, haven't tried it but looked legit! I wish they had a better selection for salads but no complaints.

We were the first ones In whe they opened. The food was excellent and the staff is very nice . It's a little pricey but vary tasty . The chips that they give you are homemade and almost melt right in your mouth and they are the bomb so if your out and about and rolling through Borrego Springs stop in . Everything they serve is on the healthy side even the tea. Enjoy

Look, I am moving out to Borrego Springs from New York City so my experience with pizza is pretty darn extensive. So with that in mind, I decided to try the margherita pizza here. Why not? I wasn't let down, for sure, but I wasn't blown away impressed, either. Again, I've had some pretty awesome slices in my day and I really didn't have high expectations for pizza out in the desert. It surpassed my expectations! Honestly, I should have tried something else from the menu because it all sounded good but for some reason the thought of desert pizza grabbed my attention. I would definitely recommend stopping here if you're trying to get some pizza or a cold brew. This place won't let you down. Promise. Don't go writing all your friends in New York City about the pizza out here, though. They might give you an earfull. A+ for overall atmosphere, vibe, service, and quality. Great visit

The green chili pepper and cactus soup was absolutely phenomenal, never had cactus soup before but now I will search for it. And the Kesling sub sandwich also was very good and so filling. The grilled romaine salad was good but could have been grilled a bit more. Sitting outside is a great view of the mountains in the passing RVs. I also enjoyed the beer selection on draft.

We were visiting the area [March 7-10, 2019], and had the experience of hoping Borrego Springs would impress us with its culinary wonders!? This is my third review of our experiences; the other two being Kendall's Cafe and the Red Ocotillo, please see/read them. Out of the three, this place/experience was the best in food quality, service, and aesthetics. On that note; the first insights are that the weekends can be busy compared to regular weekdays. As we hoped for our second lunch on a Saturday afternoon, we noted a line emanating from the front door. Not so on trip one, Friday afternoon. This sight created a dilemma; so rather than wait being pressed for time and feeling hungry we decided on the Red Ocotillo 😒. Upon entering the door at Kesling's you order at the front so perhaps looking at their menu on line would be in order to make the process a bit more efficient? The restaurant was not busy so we had our pick of many tables. The order consisted of mine, the Safron Tom and the Go Go Greek sandwiches, and one of their beers on tap [which they were out of?] Made a second choice which they had. The food was well prepared, fresh ingredients, well presented, and tasted very good on the palate. A small side of their slaw was surprisingly fresh, hearty, tasty, and not too saucey. The beer was one of their (brown) offerings,; very good. I noted the business was not busy, so the quick and efficient service stands to reason. Enjoyed the modern and clean looking aesthetics, see my pics and others. A very nice touch was the the children's art work on the way to the restrooms. The restrooms by the way is often a factor of the whole experience. It was clean looking and well stocked including paper towels for drying hands...Overall the rating is in the range of 4.2-4.4 🌟's Enjoy! .

For it's limited menu options and a casual food court kind of feel, this place surprised me with its good food! We went here for lunch. No waiting time, but there is definitely a continuous crowd coming in, eating and moving on. We chose the house special cactus and green chilli soup, pork bahn mi and chicken on flat sandwiches. The portions were decent, the sandwiches come with a side of salad. Everything is fresh and definitely tasty! The cactus soup was delicious!! Will recommend this place to friends if they head out to Borrego springs. Didn't try their beers and wines on tap, but that is on my list for a next visit.

Big Horn Burgers & Shakes is a counter-order restaurant located in the Palm Canyon Hotel and RV Resort, making it a great spot for families. The menu offers customizable options, and there is ample indoor and outdoor seating available. Despite being somewhat hidden, this restaurant provides a fun and cute atmosphere to enjoy delicious burgers. In addition to their specialty burgers, they also offer the option to create your own. The shakes are particularly excellent here.
Nice restaurant in the desert state park. I don't think there are crazy many options to eat in the park but this place is located in cute old styled western city location and offers nice food and shakes. Food is served very quickly and they have a nice veranda with a great view.

Nothing like looking at a photo of a burger on the online menu and expecting that, but getting a burger that is like a gas station burger that has been sitting under a warmer for 2 days. The fries were cold and stale. There were the little bits that lay in the bottom of the fry basket at night when you are cleaning up the kitchen.. I live less than a mile from this place, so travel time should not have affected the quality of these products. I arrived about 1 pm thinking it would all be fresh and hot since it’s the beginning of the service day and the season is just starting here in Borrego. Never again.

An unexpected delight. Come on in to the Saloon to order or go straight past Lobby Checkin and food counter is on your left. Gorgeous raised outdoor patio views with beautiful desert garden beneath. Very well done! Then the food! I haven't had a burger that great in a long time. It was the kind where you need five napkins and oh, so delicious. I chose to customize mine which they encourage. Additionally, their secret sauce was yummy. Full bar available. If you need more reasons to try them out; the service was impeccable and it's adjacent to the AB Park Visitors Center.

First time here today. I sat at the bar. The service was good, and they kept checking up on me. The bartender didn't write my order down, and I ordered avocados on my burger, which it didn't come with, but I didn't say anything since she left before I got my food. Forgot to mention I was the only one who ordered food in the bar and the burger took 23mins. The plate was hot, so I'm sure it sat under the heat lamp for a while. Too only offer burgers/sandwiches, I would think they would be fantastic, but the burger was just OK, nothing to talk about. The drink she made me was great! It's probably the best titos Moscow mule I've had. One thing i noticed was that the mule was $13, which was $1 more than the burger. The hotel area is super cool, though!

This place is neat! I got the mushroom burger, and the grilled onions and mushrooms were perfect. The burger was really delicious and the service quick and friendly. My son got a chocolate shake that is top 10 in best shakes I've tasted. The fries were overcooked, but the sauces are pretty great. The biggest drawback is how pricey it is. For being so conveniently located though it's a nice spot to refresh after hiking.

This is the second place I've been to in Borrego Springs for food and I'm much happier with this experience vs the first one I had at a "fancier" restaurant in town (check my review profile for the deets). This place is super inconspicuous and you don't really know it's there unless you stay at the rv resort here or look it up on maps in advance, which I'm guessing is why no one recommended it to me when I asked for food recommendations in a local Anza Borrego group. You order at either a front counter or you can order from the saloon. The saloon had a good small town bar vibe going on and the food was quick to be finished. I had the chicken strips basket which was great and my partner had the mushroom burger with impossible patty. We were both a lot happier with this experience vs our last one in town. Bonus is free refills on fountain drinks and they give you your fries in a drink cup so you can take them to go. This may become my go-to place to eat when I'm in the area hiking or camping.

Great spot for a delicious burger. The patties are flavorful with a nice charbroil to them. The Desert Burger is amazing with the sweet potato strings and Cilantro aolie. The Ginny Hendrix cocktail is yummy, not sweet, not so tart, just the right balance. I recommend you give them a try!

I've been here two times and both times were great! The burgers and fries are delicious and the soda is well carbonated. The atmosphere is cool because it's like an old western saloon interior. The staff is nice and the food is fresh. The only thing to note is it's a little pricey ($45 for two burger meals for two people) BUT it's out in the middle of nowhere and the amount of food you get is pretty amazing. I'm a big dude and can usually put away some food but I couldn't even finish my meal here! I would recommend checking it out if you're in the mood for a tasty burger after a long day in the desert!

Friendly service and a great place overall. I got the BBQ chicken salad, but it had no chicken in it. Still a great salad. My friends got burgers and the sweet potato fries were outstanding. Lunch for 2 ran $50. The inside is a bit dark. It is a saloon, after all. The patio was nice.

We're staying at the Palm Canyon Hotel & RV Resort, where this restaurant is located, so it's very convenient to go to for a quick bite. There's quite a selection to choose from for your build-your-own burger. All the ingredients are fresh or freshly made. They also have grilled chicken and Beyond Meat options. My son described this place as, "It's like In-N-Out but better," which pretty much sums it up.

Nicely stocked grocery and trinket store. Can't think of anything you won't find here. Besides the normal grocery, produce items and liquor they've also got a bunch of tourist stuff like t-shirts, keychains, pins, postcards and such. Prices are not too bad and the staff is very friendly.

Generally, expect to pay higher prices than you're used to. Management is able to keep prices significantly higher throughout the year because they're able to make their profits from snowbirds. They're open till 8:00 p.m. which is actually a credit to the community because apart from the gas stations, there won't be anywhere else to purchase alcohol or groceries at 7:30 pm. Fortunately the restaurants in town offer some decent food and that hooch if you're looking for it. The employees themselves are this store's real redeeming quality, they're friendly, accommodating, and extremely helpful. Plus they're locals, so if you have any questions about the area they'll be happy to share their thoughts.

1 of 2 grocery stores in Borrego Springs. Wider range here than other store, but higher prices. Employees seem disinterested in being there. I was particularly disappointed in the produce area - lack of cleanliness and quality of produce. Since I mostly buy perishables locally I've only shopped here 3-4 times in 1yr. Even Mirage Gas & Liquor is preferable to this store for basic items. MUCH cheaper to get non-perishable items from Amazon/Walmart & have delivered. I guess this store is okay if you're visiting/passing through or like paying a premium price for mediocre products. As a year-round resident I've looked elsewhere.

A lot of love for this quirky little market! They really know their customers and what they want to buy. They will have pretty much whatever you need to make a weekend in Borrego work. It's been around for a long time but I'm old enough to remember when the store was was across from Carlees, so Center Market will always be the "new" store to me.

Super busy due to the January RV show, clerks were harried, complaining. Store had nice selection of stuff considering the event. Prices were high, ouch, but they probably need to make most of their money in January. Otherwise town is pretty quiet. My experience was a little better at the other market just down the street.
Jim Cenname — Google review
As far as the market if you're going to go and spend some time at Borrego Springs you want to make sure that you have everything you need. Reason is everything is way overpriced and I paid the price for about 10 items no more than a dozen $93 in change ridiculous so make sure that you take everything you need.

On our way to Joshua Tree NP we were looking for a grocery store to buy some meat and ice, and it came up to be such an interesting place to visit! Not only convenience store with all the house needs but a bunch of souvenirs, western outfits, tshirts, camping and travel related items, here you can find anything you need! Cute little interesting town to visit! Here we saw the advertisement of the Serpent Sculpture, only 5 minutes away, so we came right away to visit! Much better than the grocery store in front of it at “The Mall” plaza. If you’re road tripping in the area this is a good place to stop.
