Valladolid

Valladolid is a city on Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula. Its colonial buildings include 16th-century Convent of San Bernardino of Siena, with an ornate wooden altarpiece, and baroque-style San Gervasio Cathedral. Casa de los Venados has Mexican folk art and furnishings. Cenote Zací is a sinkhole pool with stalactites. The underground cenotes of Samulá and X'Kekén lie southwest. Farther west is the Mayan site Chichén Itzá.

Calzada de los Frailes, also known as Friars Road, offers a glimpse into Valladolid's colonial past. The street is lined with vibrant 16th-century homes, sombrero shops, and small restaurants. At the end of the road lies the tranquil Parque Sisal where visitors can relax and people-watch. Adjacent to the park stands the Convento de San Bernardino de Siena, an impressive sand-colored structure that adds to the area's historical charm.
Calzada de Los Frailes is a beautiful and charming cobbled street in Valladolid that runs diagonally from the centre of the city to the Sisal neighbourhood and the ex-convent. It is lined with pretty, pastel-coloured buildings on both sides which have cute boutique shops, restaurants, cafes, hotels and sidewalk bars. There are some delicious vegan and vegetarian restaurants along the street including Le Kaat, Yerbabuena and Elela (the last two are situated on the street across from the convent). I loved wandering along this street and taking photos of the pretty buildings. It was generally quiet, although the street is open to vehicles, so it could get busy at times. It was lovely to explore here!
Brittany Thiessen — Google review
Very pretty pastel coloured, colonial buildings along a straight street full of trendy boutique shops and up-market restaurants. A wealthy genteel atmosphere. Pleasant to stroll down to the Convent at the bottom. I did enjoy a good coffee in the small colonial cafe to the right at the corner of the street just as it opens into the Plaza.
Richard Coghill — Google review
Not as picturesque as you see it in the blogs, mainly because it is not closed for traffic and cars passing by make it impossible for it to thrive and bloom. During the day and in full sun you just want to escape from there as the heat is unbearable and there is nowhere to hide except for cafes and restaurants.
Sebastian Zak?ada — Google review
The Calzada de los Frailes is a four century old narrow road that connects the Monastery of San Bernardino de Siena, the ancient Mayan barrio of Sisal and the downtown neighborhoods of Valladolid. This is both a residential and commercial street so don't walk into just any door. It is beautiful though and walking down it you feel the blend of the Spanish and Mayan cultures. If you are in need of souvenirs, there is a little shop right at the start called "Colores de Mexico". The prices are a tiny bit high but they are fair and the obviously handcrafted items are carved from the very heart of Mexican culture, blending folk arts of colonial Spanish and indigenous designs like the hand punched tin and wood crosses adorned with little milagros and painted with bright colors that you'd expect to see all across Mexico, but especially in the Caribbean facing Yucatan.
PhxVanguard — Google review
Very adorable street with lots of colors and a few shops and places to drink or eat. I went at night and it wasn't busy at all.
Agrine Ahmadi — Google review
Beautiful colonial walk around colorful buildings leading to the park. In the park you will find dancing, singing, food stands and beautiful flowers. Along the walk you can find shops, restaurants and the beautiful church. I recommend trying some yucatecan dishes while in the peninsula. Very safe but still be smart. Also, try some #marquesitas but they close at 10 and it was the only stand I found selling them in #Valladolid
Andie Price — Google review
Great street it is a nice 15 min walk from the central place to the conventi. There are a few public parking around so it should not be a problem to park your car in exchange for a few pesos.
Henry de Chaillé — Google review
Pretty and colorful with little boutiques, but very quite. Would be nice to have a couple more cafes
Clayton Reed — Google review
It is a really beautiful street, the best place to take a walk and relax. You'll see a lot of stores, cafeterias and an there's an excellent restaurant (Jardín de los Frailes) which, seems, it used to be in somewhere else in the city and now is located in the middle of the avenue. At the end of the street you'll find a beautiful church where you can take nice photos.

Karst
Nature & Parks
Cenote Zaci is a breathtaking natural swimming spot that boasts an open-air karst formation. It is a popular destination among tourists for its scenic views, cliff jumping, and snorkeling opportunities. However, the area is currently undergoing renovation and thus visitors are only able to observe it from one point upstairs inside the adjacent restaurant. Despite this setback, it remains well worth checking out due to its unique geological features and free entry for visitors looking to admire its beauty.
FYI: it is closed for renovation - so you can only look from one spot upstairs though It’s inside the restaurant. At least you don’t need to pay a fee for watching natural resources here 😂 (unlike everywhere else)
Visakha Thongphetsavong — Google review
Visited Cenote today, 60 pesos per person. Was really good and was able to jump off into water from height. Had food at the restaurant, sausage was overcooked but chicken fajitas was good.
Penny Hurst — Google review
Very nice, half-open Cenote. Clean water, nice personel... because we had misunderstood with lifeguard about one thing - life jacket is MANDATORY. On many other Cenotes, you can choose. But on this you can't go in water, if you don't wear life jacket. But with, you can jumping in water from different heights as you like. Highest jump is about 10m above water level. Entry (for one hour!) was 60 MXN.
Zdeněk Liška — Google review
Unfortunately, the cenote is currently close until the end of april, according to the local news for renovation
Thomas L — Google review
Entry is not cheap, but not busy when we were there. Beautiful cenote, the nicest we have visited during our month in Yucatan. Easy to reach and a nice cool down after you visit to EkBalam.
Kido Oudenbroek — Google review
This was our first cenote and it was awesome. They do make you wear a life vest but they let you jump from ledge about 25 feet or so and two lower ones. My son and I loved it. The fish will nibble your toes so free pedicure. I also liked that they limit people and only let you stay an hour, at least on Sunday when we went. It is plenty of time but also makes it so you can actually swim and jump without a crowd. A must.
michael graber — Google review
Looks like a good place to swim, unfortunately it’s closed for now
Luisa Almeida — Google review
entry was only 70 pesos cheapest ive been and the water temp felt so nice and refreshing. less than ten minute walk from city center as well
Ken Lawson — Google review
Zaci is an open Cenote right in the center of Valladolid, charging 60 pesos entrance fee. It’s easy getting down and getting into the water. The water is okay, not very clear so not worth bringing snorkeling gear. Wearing a life jacket unfortunately is mandatory and they don’t have really decent ones, so they come up to your face all the time. As a quick refreshment within the city Zaci is okay, but no more.
Dunja Rieber — Google review
Stunning cenote! You may have to wait 10-20 minutes to get in, but that’s also no bad thing as it prevents overcrowding so you always have space to swim around. It’s around $60 pesos per person which includes a life jacket. Other cenotes can charge $50 pesos just to rent the life jacket, so this seemed like great value to me. Only 5-10 minute walk from the centre and they have a restaurant, too. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Valladolid.
Dominic Goddard-John — Google review
Very nice cenote 👍 60 pesos per person and they provide life jackets. It’s really fun! We went on a Sunday so there were more people, but overall it’s pretty good!
RY Yan — Google review
Recommend getting here early. Its a lovely pool in the middle of the city. Jumping spot from about 7m. Not for diving, quite popular with locals. Lifejackets obligatory.
Karel Šana — Google review
Horrible attitude from the cashier, not explaining how it works and not making feel tourists welcome. Other than that the place is awesome
Felipe L — Google review
A vibrant cenote right in the middle of town. I went with two children and they also enjoyed the experience. Economical to boot!
Neil Miller — Google review
I love this cenote, the beauty of it speaks for itself. The entrance costs $60 MXN per adult and they provide life vests and you can stay for 2 hours.

Art Museums
This museum is packed with colorful Mexican folk art collected by Dorianne and John Venators. The private collection includes pieces dating back to the 16th century, and is interesting in that objects are displayed in an actual private house, instead of being displayed in glass cases. With your donation, the museum has the opportunity to benefit local communities through a variety of programs.
Great experience! They do tours at 10am so be there on time. I think there might be more tours but I’m not sure how exactly it works. The tour lasts about 1 hour and is walking around somebody’s house with loads and loads of Mexican art and souvenirs. It really is worth it!
Agata Majka — Google review
Amazing unique art gallery / museum / home. We had such an interesting tour by Sergio. The house is beautiful and the art throughout every room is stunning. Hearing about the art, the house, and the owners along the way was great too. Really recommend it. They have guided tours most days at 10:00 11:30 13:00 14:00 and 15:00. Just ring the bell and they'll let you in.
Tam Finlay — Google review
It’s a private house with guided tours multiple times per day. There’s a 100pesos donation for I don’t remember exactly which cause. You have to arrive on time for the tour, no need for reservations. We went to the 2PM one there’s some in AM and later 3PM as well. The guide was very informative and answered all our “non house related” questions. It was even better than expected.
Fei C — Google review
Whether you enjoy art or not, this is a great experience to learn not only the art history of the Yucatán and nearby regions but also general history of these areas all while getting to walk around a spectacular home! Really love the fact that all donations go to local charities in the community as well. A must visit! They have a few tours that run throughout the day and take about an hour to complete.
Phoenix Wilkins — Google review
A personal elaborate art collection in the elaborate personal house opposite the main square. It is very interesting even though I am no culture vulture. There are personal tours normally 10 am, 11.30, etc, in English and Spanish. The 100 peso charge is given to the local community. Ring the bell, and they will confirm the next time. As is next to the main square and church, there is plenty to see and do(drinks, snacks) if there is a slight delay
Fred Flintstone — Google review
Miguel gave us an amazing tour of this spectacular house full of Mexican folk art. We arrived 2 minutes before 10am and joined a group that was already waiting in the lobby. He was a very knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide. He walked us through most of the rooms in the house and explained the history behind several different pieces of art and the different themes of each room. Visiting the Casa de los Venados was a last minute decision, but it turned out to be one of the absolute highlights of our trip!
Samuel Engelen — Google review
Really enjoyed visiting this amazing private house and museum. We had a very good tour, informative and friendly. The guide was a voluntary contribution which is to raise funds for local charities!
Lucie Gledhill — Google review
This really is amazing. Not only b/c of the folk art, but due to that this is a private house where the owner, Doug, just opens up his home for tourists to flood through and touch his stuff. He even comes out to greet most tours. The suggested donation all goes to local charities and not to the owner or guides. I gave a tip to our guide and my wife noticed that he went to the charities jar and put it into their instead of his pocket. This tells me that the owner really takes care of his tour guide staff.
Brandon Smith — Google review
An amazing opportunity to view a private residence in the middle of the city with a ton of Mexican art. Best of all, the donations you give at the end of 100% to local charities! The tour guide Miguel was phenomenal! We got there right at 10am and the tour started within 5 minutes after! I highly recommend you visit here! It's well worth it, and they are doing great things for the local community.
Zachary Smith — Google review
Imagine a place full of beautiful Mexican arts, crafts, sculptures, paintings where all donations given by clientele go entirely to local causes and those in need. Whilst the website offers guided tours at 10 am, there are actually about 4 a day, giving many more people the opportunity to view these treasures. By the way, the tour by our guide David was interesting and entertaining. Highly recommended.
Liz Hawksbee — Google review
So cool! Very neat collection of art from two American collectors who resettled in Mexico. The home is amazing, the house dog is adorable. Very fortunate to see John "Deer" and his wife's home. Amazing piñatas, costumes, and hand painted furniture, and a super cool bit of history on the significance of skulls in Mexican art. We also learned the meaning of "Yucatan" in Mayan! Highly recommended.
Naomi Goff — Google review
If you have an appreciation for art, architecture and capturing stories visit this museum. The guided tours are from 10:00 11:30 13:00 14:00 and 15:00. Just ring the bell during this time or wait outside until this time. They will open the door and let you inside. Once inside you'll be given a 45-50 min tour about how an American couple purchased their retirement home and rebuilt the house over the course of several 10 years to what it is today. Their story is inspirational and their art collection is of artists all around Mexico over the course of their lives. 100p is a suggested donation and it goes directly to many local charities in the area.
Bobbi M — Google review
Highly recommend. Great collection of contemporary folk art from across Mexico. Beautifully restored hacienda. Guide, Sergio, was brilliant - super knowledgeable about the collection and multilingual. $100 recommended donation well worth it. They offer tours x5/day at 10am, 11.30am, 1pm, 3pm and 4pm(?). Ignore what it says on the website, you just turn up and ring the doorbell ahead of whichever time slot.
Ruby Manson — Google review
Not to miss in Valladolid! More Mexican folk art than you would see in a museum, this is a private house right in the centre. Donations of $100 mxn support local charities for the disadvantaged. David us an excellent guide & if you’re lucky the owner might be there to explain further. Recommended
Jane Jagger — Google review
wonderful house. It's worth coming to see. Sergio is a great guide. We were pleasantly surprised by how he tried trito connect with the visitors and learn a few words of our language.
Tanja — Google review
DO NOT MISS THIS PLACE. "Modern Art" may not be your thing, but you do not want to miss this. The "museum" is a private home that is open for public tours a few times a day. We went to the 1 pm tour. There was another planned for 3 pm. Not sure what other times are scheduled. It was a little confusing because you walk up and ring the doorbell if no one is at the door, but the building is well-marked. If you ring the doorbell and it isn't a tour time, a person will answer and tell you the time for the next tour. On to the tour itself: the owners of the house made it their lives' mission to collect handcrafted Mexican folk art. When they moved to Valladolid in retirement, they bought an old colonial-era building and renovated it to modern standards. It's a great tour for both the art and the architecture. Our tour guide was a quadrilingual professional who seemed to know about everything in the house. He's fun and gives a lot of valuable information about the culture and the city while talking about the art. He explained the treatment of skeletons in Mexican art and the treatment of death in modern Mayan religious philosophy, both of which helped us understand the art better. The building is a beautiful hacienda and the art will give you insight into the culture around you. There's a donation box at the end. Proceeds go to a local charity. Tips can be handed directly to the guide at the end.

FANTASTIC find in Valladolid! I highly recommend a visit❤️ This is my third trip to Valladolid, and I finally made it to this beautiful home today- so worth the wait. This is a private residence chock full of amazing Mexican folk art, with guided tours for the public which start each day at 10am, 11:30am, and then a couple of afternoon times, too. It's an optional $100 pesos donation at the end, money which goes to various charities in the city. Be sure to tip your tour guide, too😁👍
Julia L. — Google review
It's really worth spending some time to visit this private house/museum. The guide is very passionate about the collection and will answer all your questions. The tour lasts about one hour and it is just with a really small group so it is very enjoyable.
lisa borrelli — Google review
Defintelly pay a visit to this house. The first tour starts at 10.00am and the second tour is at 11.30am. You can just ring the doorbell a few minutes before the tour starts and someone will open the door. The tour is very nice and especially the tour guide knows a lot and is very friendly.

The Mercado Municipal de Valladolid is a local market in Valladolid, Mexico that sells produce, meat, and clothing at low prices. It is also a popular place to buy hot sauces made from locally sourced ingredients.
Definitely worth visiting to see some authentic culture. If you’re a traveller like me, pick up some spices. Recommend: achiote, Mexican orégano, and dried peppers. I paid 10 Peso per bag.

Lots of great food and snacks at this local market! Clothes and other goods are also sold here in the building where the meat market is located
Saul Garcia — Google review
Nice little market. 1 of the buildings hosts the butchers and clothing. I'd avoid that build as the smell is not very pleasant. The other building hosts the veg and fruit. It is a newer building and much nicer to visit.
Nikko — Google review
Maybe is not a big local market but you can find a lot of interesting things here, a lot of organic and local veggies and fruits and some handcrafts, it’s a really interesting point in Valladolid and also cheaper than other places, so come and support the local people and buy here!

Dope market. Chicken, beef, pork and lamb. Fresh fruits and vegetables. Handmade goods and regular cheap things. Worth a visit especially for a grocery shop!
Marble Jaguar — Google review
A really neat local experience. Grabbed a gorgeous bouquet of flowers for very cheap. Note, avoid the meat section if you're weak stomached or naive as to where your food actually comes from.

One of my favourite local markets on the whole Yucatán peninsula. You can buy handicrafts, vegetables, fruits, tacos and more, at local prices. Absolutely worth a visit or more, if you stay in Valladolid.
Greg Simbowsky — Google review
It's a very nice local market selling groceries and clothing/shoes, etc. Purchased flipflops for 250 mxn, the prices were written clearly, which is hard to see in other touristic places.

Nice stop for ladies looking for souvenirs or fresh fruits and snacks. Colorful display of vegetables, flowers, and also fresh meats. Men would probably be wondering why you took them along. Nice stroll from the city center, about 1 mile. By the way, I always ask for permission before taking pics. Just do it.

Definitely worth a visit, different places with food like burritos and tacos guacamole,.. you can choose your own dishes and sit at the tables in the middle of the place. Great ambiance.

This mercado is little bit off the beaten track, at the edge of town some 10 min walk from the cenote Zaci. It's housed in a beautiful arched colonial style edifice and it's very colorful inside. You'll find everything there - fruits, vegetables, meats, clothes and what I was most amazed with - homemade HOT sauces in so many different colors. I bought over 10 at less than 2$ a piece. Great place to soak local atmosphere and many local eateries around

Ice cream shop
Wabi Gelato is an artisanal gelato shop located in Valladolid, offering a fusion of Yucatecan and Mediterranean flavors. The menu is updated daily to provide a wide range of options, from classic choices like chocolate and mango to more unique flavors such as toasted almond or limon with habanero chile. Customers praise the exquisite taste and freshness of the gelato, with some highlighting the friendly service and welcoming atmosphere.
Wooow🤩 delicious ice creams!! 😍 All of them are incredible and home made! For me the best flavours are banana with choco, chocolate and mango with maracuya. Suuperecomended and the owners are really nice!
Marta Atienza — Google review
Wow! Unbelievably good! My 2 favourites were chocolate and banana + choc chip but every flavour we tasted was great :) My girlfriend and I are from Australia and have been travelling around the world for the last 2 years. We have been to 40 countries in that time and we eat ice cream almost every day. This is only the second ice cream shop we have been to in that time that I rate 10/10 (the first one was in Italy). It’s a must visit!
Joshua Fellowes — Google review
I love getting local ice-creams from places I visit and this one was certainly interesting. There were not a lot of flavors choices available like it is being advertised here but I did get my favorite flavor of Mango! The ice cream seemed very true to natural flavor with no additive. Do check it out if you are around the place.
Rikin Patel — Google review
Menus will change daily according to the lady working in the shop and she is such a lovely person that gives you the vibe of the main actress of a romance movie running a small dessert shop in a beautiful town, she is very polite and knows a lot of languages (the menu is written in all kinds of languages and she let me put “lime” in mandarin on it. I truly cherish this experience and the gelato is very flavourful ** Note there is only 3 chair in the shop and no AC so don’t expect a big group to sit and chill there** **also you can pick 3 flavours at most for the small cup not sure for the big cup tho **
Norma Yang — Google review
Don't get me wrong... it's not that the ice cream are very bad or service is not up to the standards. But... I can't shake the feeling that it's a very well designed tourist trap. The prices are through the roof and it's just ordinary ice cream. tl;dr there is absolutely nothing special about it. If you are fine paying premium, by all means go for it.
Sebastian Zak?ada — Google review
Lovely gelato. Not as creamy as I usually like it but also not to sweet. Punchy flavours! Try the almond and chocolate banana!
Shomo Shabas — Google review
Very good gelato, not very sweet compared to other places we’ve tried in Mexico, which is perfect for us. It seems that the flavors change regularly. We’ve tried the pistachio one and what they called “Surya Milk” with turmeric, cardamom and ginger and it was a lovely surprise! The staff was very friendly as well. Would definitely come back.
Thaís Macedo — Google review
Pineapple and coriander was a delicious twist on my usual favourite of pineapple and basil. The sorbets and gelatos were all excellent. I eat a lot of gelato when back home ( some would say I eat too much!). This place was as good, if not better, than a lot of European places. The lady who ran the shop was lovely and gave me some great tips on what to order in the restaurants- she was patient with my rusty Spanish and just overall super sweet and positive. It was pricey compared to other ice cream places but worth it for the quality.

A must try in Valladolid. When the weather is striking hot, they serve amazing ice cream for every taste buds, from creamy to fresh fruit flavors. It surprised me the spicy lemon one (habanero). Towards the last bite my eyes were teary. They know what they are doing.

Amazing taste for all my family. We had caramel, hibiscus and chocolate. The ice cream was delicious and texture could have been stretchier but was impressive either way. Try their caramel flavour!
Liz Bates — Google review
We were only in Valladolid for two nights, and we had gelato here twice. It was very delicious, though perhaps a bit on the expensive side for Mexico.
Mary vtn — Google review
Absolutely delicious! This shop has the best ice cream around. The flavours are unique because they are made fresh every day and they make different flavours. They only have 4 milk based flavours and 4 water based flavours but it’s enough! We tried the Jamaica and pineapple-cilantro and this was a huge winner. On the mill based we tried the almond and salted caramel and they were incredible too! It makes us sad to see some ignorant reviews here of people saying that they don’t have a lot of flavours, that the price is too much or that the staff is rude…. None of that is true! This ice cream is made in house in small batches and this costs money! If you want cheap mass produced ice cream, just go somewhere else! This store doesn’t deserve your ignorance. Thanks Venecia for the amazing service!

What more can I say then what has already been said? We both had the large cup with 3 different flavours. Vanicea (sorry if I misspelled) was patient and very helpful, I think we tried all seven flavours and two honeys! Mmmmmm!

Absolutely the best gelato we had during our trip to the Yucatan. Fresh ingredients, friendly staff. So good we came back the next day to try more flavours.

Great ice cream at a reasonable price. Very friendly service. We were too late for Chocolat ice cream the first day, ate some lime ice cream, which was excellent and very refreshing. When we came back the next day, the girl welcomed us like we were regulars. We had our chocolate ice cream with another scoop of caramel - worth coming back for it. Definitely recommended to try. A scoop cost around 65 pesos. It is a small shop with a tiny seating area for 3 people so we had our ice cream to go.
Lars Simon — Google review
Just really good ice cream. Not the cheapest by any means, but very good. Chocolate and Stracciatella (although they have other, more creative choices) were delicious! Would give five stars for the ice cream, just the prices are a little beyond reasonable.
Andreas Eymannsberger — Google review
We come from Italy and this is likely one of the best or maybe the best ice cream we have ever had. Very special tastes, perfect creaminess but not too heavy. The staff is friendly, helpful and their shop is beautifully designed. One of the cutest places where we felt truly happy during our one month Mexico trip. We’d love to have a spot like that closer to our home! PS : try their affogato !

Extremely friendly and welcoming staff! Explained how the ice cream flavours are crafted and let us try several flavours before deciding. Very delicious!

This gelato was amazing, and I typically do not like gelato. We got chocolate, almond, and my husband got one that had espresso poured over it. We all loved it. The woman at the register who helped us was overly kind and helpful and let us taste test. She was smiling and welcoming. I just wish they had more space to sit and enjoy: there is one bar top table with two chairs. There wasn’t room for anything else. So we took it to go and ate as we walked.

Restaurant
This restaurant is located right across from the beautiful Spanish-colonial convent of Saint Bernard of Siena, and its Yucatec cuisine is as good as the atmosphere with dishes such as panuchos de cochinita pibil (refried tortillas stuffed with shredded pork, beans and chili) and red chilaquiles (refried tortillas with egg in an annatto sauce). There are plenty of vegetarian options and international standards including burgers and lasagne.
I ordered the vegetarian sandwich and oh my God it was so good! After backpacking a while I definitely crave anything healthy or a delicious salad and they had all of that here. Super cool ambience over a candlelit table and Lil fountain in the background. Service was excellent. They even gave me complementary tea at the end. :-) vegetarian heaven!
Danny G. — Google review
The atmosphere of this place is very cosy and they make tasty juices. The food, however, could have been better. The presentation was nice, but the flavors were kind of bland and nothing special. For authentic Mexican food there are better options in Valladolid.

Amazing vegan options in a tranquil environment! I loved the vegan lasagna and chocolate mousse. The quality of food and service was stellar. I can’t wait to go back and try more.
Christina W — Google review
Best cappuccino so far on our trip (all others have been too weak for these two Europeans!). The food is decently priced and delicious! So much flavor, and even my spouse who can’t handle spicy food loved his pork dish (he asked for the mole sauce on the side). I had the Yucatán chicken dish and it was incredibly flavorful. Handmade warm blue-corn tortillas on the side. The mole was delicious as well, but a tad on the spicy side even for my taste. Also tried the tamarind Agua fresqua which I’ve never tried before, refreshing but a little sweet (not too sweet, I assume it’s supposed to be a little sweet!). Facilities are clean as well, great restrooms, space between tables, cute decor, pleasant music playing in the background (nothing loud or annoying like in some other places). Also, not often mentioned, but they had sharp cutlery so you can actually cut your meat. This impressed my spouse who has been annoyed by the “butter knives” we’ve received at other places. Staff was super friendly and very efficient with food and getting the bill etc. They even have a little map where you can put a pin to say where you’re from! 10/10 would go back in a heartbeat. Perfect spot for lunch or breakfast.

Very fresh but lacked flavor. We ordered french toast with fresh fruit. My wife enjoyed it but didn't rave about it. I got the veggie burger without cheese and it had zero flavor. I added ketchup, that was a mistake. I will however give 5 stars for the papas fritas. We also ordered drinks. The horchata was watery, the other was oj strawberry something, the oj was overpowering and tart.

Delicious fried potatoes and frappe and mango smoothie. Friendly prompt service. Thank you we will return to try some other foods.

A spacious Restaurant with a beautifull backyard. Located biz outside of the city center so that's why it was not crowded when we were there. Offers lots of Juices and Smoothies. When it comes to the dishes, they have lots of veg/vegan options. Very friendly staff. They even has a small Shop, where you can purchase health related products like aloevera Cremes. Definately worth the visit.

Excellent food and atmosphere. Service was great as well. The chilaquiles with oaxacan mole and egg was a winning combination. That mole was magical. The Chaya and egg scramble was perfect and the juices fresh and tasty. Great place.

Great little place opposite a park in Valladolid. The food was lovely, however I enjoyed the drinks more!!! I started with a ginger drink, which I loved so much I ordered another drink when the meal came, but it was a cucumber and lime one.

Absolutely delicious! Great choice of fine and yummy food. Many vegetarian plates, wonderful breakfast, good juices and smoothies. Great coffee, nice garden and and and good service! We were there twice and were sad, that it already closes at 5pm…. Best restaurant in town!

Utterly and entirely pleasurable! We started with tortilla soup, which was crazy good. Then had the pork mole that put me in ecstasy! -seriously. Service was great, and the food was spot on perfect. we would not hesitate to come back here again! Great job guys!!

Update: went back a second time for dinner and it was VERY disappointing. The dinner menu is very small. Not the same as lunch which surprised me. My tamales were very dry, the Buddha bowl was bland. Definitely won’t be returning. Far better veg/vegan places in town these days I have been wanting to try this place for years and somehow never managed until yesterday! The place is super cute, lovely back garden, and colorful decorations. Unfortunately, we moved inside due to so many mosquitos (even though it is dry season). The food was not as great as we hoped but tasty. We ordered chilaquiles and the veggie burger. The chilaquiles were good but for the size the price was ridiculous and they charge extra for a protein but have no vegan options. Definitely better chilaquiles elsewhere for a fraction of the price. The burger was also tasty but for a vegetarian burger over relied on cheese and mayo for flavor. The patty was crumbly/soggy and lacked structure. I liked that it contained mushrooms though and wasn’t overpureed so you could identify the ingredients but it should be thicker/more cohesive. They veggies on it were nice though! The potatoes were very tasty!! We tried various baked goods which were only okay. The granola cookie is very dry, the brown is more like a cake texture and also dry. The banana bread was the best and very moist! Our smoothie was lackluster and once again the price was pretty surprising. While I wasn’t thrilled by my experience, the dinner menu looked like it had some good items so I will likely return to try more things as I love the large vegetarian menu. Wish the prices matched size and quality though.

Came here twice when passing through Valladolid & back from Merida to Holbox. About a 15 minute walk from the ADO bus station in town. Healthy options & big portions - plus everything is really tasty. I recommend the tortilla soup, mango smoothie, & carrot cake.

Fast food restaurant
La Casona de Valladolid is a popular mexican restaurant in Valladolid that offers a wide variety of dishes from the Yucatecan region. The restaurant is located in a beautiful courtyard and has an outdoor patio that is perfect for lunch. The buffet menu closes at 5pm, so make sure to arrive well before then to enjoy all the food!
We were taken here for lunch at the last leg of our daily Yucatán excursion with Xcaret. The place is beautiful, clean and has wonderful service. Food buffet was amazingly delicious and plenty (so much selection). Great way to end the day!

Very good restaurant buffet. The place is beautifully decorated, the buffet is mexican typical dishes and don't forget to try the Mexican coffee cause it s gives me smile all along.

Stopped by for the lunch buffet as the reviews are good and was not disappointed. The variety and quality of food was great, the service was top notch and the restaurant was gorgeous! They had all my Yucatan favorites and a few contemporary choices as well. The only reason this is not a 5 star was the price. As of writing this the price per person has 600 peso's. This does include draft beer but as someone who doesn't drink alcohol the price is a little steep. It was excellent, just be aware of the new price.

We went there for my friend for a dinner before we left Valladolid. The food was good for a buffet style food with a lot of variaties. The staff was lovely and kept checking on us and making sure we have out drinked refilled. The atmosphere and the style of the place got amazing area with sculpture of a saint

La Palapita de los Tamales is a small family-owned restaurant in Candelaria that specializes in tamales. The prices are low and the tables are big, giving the restaurant an air of rustic simplicity. The dining room opens onto an outdoor terrace, where diners can enjoy views of the church facade and nearby rooftops.
Sweet place with plenty of choice for vegetarians. The sikil pak and cheese empanadas were delicious, the hoja santa tamale had a unique flavour but was a little dry compared to tamales I’m used to. A lovely garden at the back and a very nice little shop with honey and kitchenwares.

I nearly broke my neck while leaving this place as I missed the last step on their stairs. Despite having this near death experience, I still had a great time in this restaurant. I would definitely recommend their homemade guacamole and the tortilla chips. The tamales were okayish, could have been flavoured a bit more. Also tried the tortilla stuffed with egg which was served with mashed beans and tomato sauce. It was a small portion but taste was good. If you are bored or you just don’t like the people which you are hanging out with; ask if you can have a look in their kitchen. They showed me how they made some of their recipes. It was quite interesting to see how they get a raw egg slide into a thin tortilla 😁

Great options for dinner at quite reasonable price. We shared poc choc and tamele colados. Decent taste and the Mexican/juice drinks are great. Servers are very attentive and checked on us multiple times

Good restaurant to try some tamales. They also serve a very good guacamole and decent portions of horchata. The tamales itself were a bit bland. Adding some spices to the dough would help. They did provide some sauces on the side that upgraded the overall taste.

Was recommended by our hostel to eat tamales (Yucatan specialty). Really cool interior and you get a lot for the money. One tamale is 45 pesos and is very filling (i ordered 2 for me and it was too much, one would had been enough). If possible choose different ones and share with friends. We also tried salbutes that were delicious. Go for it when in Valladolid.

We went into this place walking around it looked nice and clean had not big expectations. Prices where fair, and staff very nice. Tried a little bit of everything but our favorite was the regional lime soup and hot chocolate with a spoonful of honey & cacao beans it blew our mind! Definitely a must go to when you visit this nice artesanal town.
Marlen GS — Google review
Service was bad and the food was the worst I had in Mexico so far. The tamale was very dry. The dish of the day was half cold and the description of the waiter was completely inaccurate: chicken instead of pork, no tomato... The hot chocolate very watery. I came here because of the Lonely Planet (2019) recommendation. Do not make the same mistake ! Obviously things have changed. Closed on Monday, please change the opening hours on Google...
Victor Nguyen — Google review
My breaded chicken was a bit disappointing - everything was fairly cold and only small scraps of meat. My partner's lechón was better but nothing special. Maybe it was just a large difference from my expectations after reading other reviews? Service was unusually suffocating. Asking for orders only a minute after we'd sat down and then standing close to the table waiting impatiently until we'd decided. We weren't really made to feel welcome. The bathrooms also had no water when we visited although this seemed to be a street wide issue and we we told about the issue upon entering the premises. On the positive side, we had the table seated on the balcony at the front which was a super location.
Nicholas Solly — Google review
Amazing food. We found it walking around the neighborhood from our hotel. I got the citrus chicken and I can't remember what the chicken with corn sauce was but honestly it was top 3 dishes I have had in all of Mexico. Must try if you are in Valladolid.

A very disappointing experience. Food was ok (yet nothing special) but the service is really bad and it ruined our evening. We were ignored by the waiter and despite many reminders we were not given even basic attention. Don’t fall for their drinks either - I attach a photo of what was served as a “margherita”. I spoke to the manager about it and he did not seem too bothered. He even tried to increase the bill by adding drinks that were supposed to be free due to happy our. Not sure why this place is recommended, really. It is to be avoided!

First restaurant we tried in Valladolid, and it met and exceeded all our expectations. The food was delicious. I had the soup of the day, a mix of chicken, pork and cheese with nachos, an absolute dream. The drinks were delicious, mainly the Chaya drink. Mind you, they don't serve any alcohol. Prices were pretty decent. We paid about 700 pesos for 4 people.

The restaurant La Selva is a great place to go for delicious Mexican food at an affordable price. The margaritas are amazing and the tostadas panuchos and sopes are some of the best in Valladolid. The service is friendly and helpful, and the restaurant seems very local.
Great value for money at La Selva in Valladolid. Amazing margaritas and palomas for only 50 pesos. Tacos, tostadas, empanadas etc. go for between 11 and 15 pesos. Highly recommended!

My wife and I loved this place. It was recommended by the hotel we were staying at. It was definitely a local feel. The food was amazing. I had the Chalupas with beef and the Sopes with chicken. My wife has the Soap de Lima. The staff was very friendly. It was CASH ONLY when we went.

First of all: the margaritas are incredible, especially taking the price into account! Secondly, the tostadas panuchos and sopes were the best we’ve had in Valladolid without a doubt. Amazing food for an even more amazing price and service. Simply a 10/10, especially in comparison with other spots in Valladolid.

The lime soup and the guacamole were the stars of the show! Straightforward Yucatán food at a very reasonable price. The chicken was bland so get the carne malida or pork.
Raymond Scott — Google review
You should visit if you have a chance. The food was wonderful. The masa they used is unique. The lomitos was a wonderful filling in the empanada. The sopa was delightful and wonderful even on a hot, humid night. The chalupa was a mix of textures, soft potatoes inside with a crispy masa crust. Definitely have the agua fresca de Chaya, it’s refreshing and sweet from added pineapple. And bring cash.

A must try for Valladolid. A mixture of locals and tourists in the venue which is a great sign. We went based on google reviews and are glad that we did! The lime soup is delicious - again a google review try! We got tostadas and chalupas and codzitos. Portions were very big. We let the waiter choose our protein 😂 - we had chicken on the tostadas and then had carne (we think!) on the chalupas. There was a surprise hard boiled egg on the chalupas so maybe choose your protein yourself if you don't want to be surprised. The paloma was lovely also - some of the other cocktails were huge. It was reasonably priced, the bill came to 150 pesos each including a tip.

The only bad point is the staff that come to your table. We've been there twice within 3 days and not once the waitress gave us a smile that made us feel welcomed. The food is great tough and the musician that came in with His guitar was stunning. Wish I had more pesos because his voice had something magical.

it's a really great place! we had it recommended by the receptionist at our hostel and it was a gem. everything we had tasted fresh, the guacamole was really good, and both soups we tried were spectacular! also the atmosphere is really nice and it seems like a very local place. they also do delivery. it is also well priced. absolutely recommend a visit!

The best regional food we had during our trip in Mexico. Simple, cosy and light environment. The food was tasty and affordable. Please try the lime soup. It was really the best local meal I had. We also tried their taco’s speciality and the one with black beans was simply amazing (so good that we forgot to take a picture 🤭). They do not accept credit card so bring some cash with you.

The restaurant was packed with locals and some foreigners like us for our whole dinner. The food was good and of exceptional value, the best on our 18 day trip around the Yucatan. The atmosphere was unique with interesting solo singers with speakers serenading the audience. The service was faster than some restaurants but strange why our drinks came with the main course, after the appetizers, but the place was full.

Amazing Yucatec food and lovely service with a smile! We had Codzitos rolls and soup Caldo la Selva. For drinks I choose green drink - Chaya + Pina (tasty and refreshing!). Great portions, budget friendly prices. One of the most delicious meal we had through our 2 week Yucatan Peninsula trip! Definitely recommend it if you want to try authentic and tasty local food!

The vegan restaurant Le Kaat offers delicious tacos and pasta dishes that will please vegetarians. The atmosphere is perfect, with an open-air setting along Calzada de los Frailes, and the guitarist playing when we were there was a favorite part of our experience. Service was quite slow, but overall we enjoyed our meal.
This cozy restaurant has left the best impressions! I would give 6/5 if possible. The restaurant has a wonderful environment, delicious food, quick and excellent service. Everything was simply perfect. The brownie dessert with vanilla ice cream was exceptional. I highly recommend you visit this place when in Valladolid.

We went to this restaurant on new year's day. I don't know whether they were too busy when most businesses were not open on a holiday. It took forever to have our drinks served. I had to chase the server to have the first dish - soup ready. From the time we sat down until the soup, it took more than 1 hour and 10 minutes. We had not idea how long it would take to get the main dishes. No communication. I understand business can get very busy on a holiday. I wish the staff should have communicated better so we knew what to expect. Maybe its the language barrier. The person did speak English with us. We walked out hungry after spending more than 1.5 hours at the restaurant. We had to go to a different place to get more food later.
Sheila Xie — Google review
I enjoyed the 3 tacos with the multi colored tortillas and delicious salsa. The falafel bowl was very bland with a bland sauce. We instead asked for another salsa and used this as a sauce for the falafel bowl instead. The pineapple basil juice was tasty. Ambience very nice with an amazing guitarist playing when we were there. He was our favorite part of this restaurant. Service quite slow and it took a very long time to get a simple sparking water.

I had dinner at Le Kaat after stumbling upon it earlier in the day, walking around Valladolid. I’m vegetarian, so I was very excited to find a restaurant in town dedicated to veggie dishes. The food at Le Kaat was delicious and our server was amazing and friendly. We sat outside in the courtyard/ garden area, and really enjoyed the atmosphere, ambiance, and decor. If you are visiting Valladolid, and especially if you are vegan/ vegetarian, you have to check this place out. I would give them more than five stars if it was possible!

Was such a nice place that we came here for both dinner and breakfast! Many vegan options for both dinner and breakfast, all well thought through. Very nice atmosphere and there were always people there when we passed by (which I see as a good grade). Super friendly and engaging staff. We were also lucky to go there for dinner when they had a musician performing both Mexican and international hits with his guitar, which was a romantic bonus. Lovely little outdoor seating area, but as the restaurant is open towards the road with no clear door to close it was no problem to sit “inside” either. Very good food too, also appreciated by my non-vegan or vegetarian husband (even though it could - as most places we went to in Mexico - need some more seasoning to really bring out the flavours of their fantastic produces). Also appreciated that they had vegan desserts, as that is not that easy to get in many other restaurants. Would definitely return!

The updated menu in the photos... I loved the Hamburguesa BBQ the sauces were very good together, is that kind of restaurant to eat 3 courses to get satisfied if you are a good eater like me. I had the couliflower entry and the burguer. At the end I could still eat another burguer. The flavor was really amazing, but I like it better when I get at least satisfied (that's why 4 stars).

Other than the extremely inventive, affordable and undoubtedly delicious menu, this place has an awesome vibe to go with it. The night my party and I went, we were lucky enough to have guitarist Wilhem serenade us throughout our meal. Juices are great, same as drinks and food is very flavorful and creative. Definitely recommend.
Rumpelstiltskin — Google review
Place has a nice atmosphere. Later in the night there was live music as a nice sauce for the vibe. Exactely that was missing in the food. The vegan burger I was very dry. The chaicoco tea was very watery and the snicker icecream was so extremely small and had little flavor. Food is like, pretty important factor in a restaurant? so I would rate it 2. Tho 3 stars because the waiter took the no tip as a champ. I'm sorry for the dude since he was friendly and the food was served extremely fast. Rather had wait a bit longer if the food had some more care. Also we felt it was healthy with little salt and lack of sauces. That's a good thing imo.

Came in cos of the vibe, dissapointed by food.. curry was taste watery, some zukini&carrot&onion little bit of beans, didn't taste much at all. Nothing in the bowl had much taste. I wanted curry because of it's flavor. But good service and garden. Food, 170$ not worth the price :( Hard to finished it cos quantity of rice is quite big while with muted taste of sauce and veggy. Should study about curry more.. vegan should be delicious, not just feel empty with lack of flavor or ingredients. Too expensive for very basic ingredients

Incredible place to have dinner, everything is vegan and delicious. I was not confident about pastas being italian but my friend tried pomodoro pasta and it was very well cooked, I had a falaffel bowl which was very abundant and tasty and we shared a cashew strawberry frozen cheesecake. Plus, the waiter was very careful in the service and the guitarist created a beautiful atmosphere.

Our dining experience at the restaurant was average. While the food was decent, the sauce lacked in flavor. The service was friendly, and we appreciated the charming garden. However, overall, it didn't quite meet our expectations, and we don't find it compelling enough to visit a second time. Maybe if you are vegan a good choice, but for vegetarian I prefer other options in town.
