Cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
One of the oldest and most important churches in England, Canterbury Cathedral is visited by millions of people each year. With rich history dating back more than 1,400 years, the cathedral contains some beautiful historical collections and is home to the Church of England. The main attraction is the crypt which was about to hold a wedding when it was visited.
Amazing experience. So much history and experienced guides who delight in imparting this history. We took a break after an hour or so and went for refreshments. Came back and spent another couple of hours there, a good way to see the Cathedral if you have time. Ticket allows you to return again during the year of issue, excellent value.

Sadly on this visit could not go inside the main cathedral because of a private event we could only go to the crypt and the gardens but for a mere £5 it was worth it. You still get to see the stunning architecture of the cathedral from the outside and the crypt has lots of great things to see with such a stunning herb garden. I would recommend that you always check for events before you have you heart set on seeing the cathedral just in case but this was still a lovely option!

Canterbury Cathedral is an absolute marvel of architecture and history, and I cannot recommend it highly enough. From the moment you set foot on the grounds, you are transported to another time and place, surrounded by stunning Gothic architecture and steeped in the rich cultural and religious history of England. Every detail of the cathedral is breathtaking, from the intricate carvings and stained glass windows to the soaring vaulted ceilings and meticulously maintained gardens. The sense of peace and serenity that permeates the cathedral is truly awe-inspiring, and I found myself completely absorbed in the beauty and history of the place. The knowledgeable and friendly staff are a testament to the cathedral's commitment to hospitality, and their willingness to share their expertise and passion for the cathedral's history and significance only adds to the overall experience. Whether you are a history buff, a religious pilgrim, or simply a lover of architecture and beauty, Canterbury Cathedral is an absolute must-see destination. I cannot imagine a more perfect way to spend a day than exploring this magnificent cathedral and all that it has to offer.

Beautiful and ancient cathedral. Stunning stained glass windows.. the cathedral is easily accessible from London and a high speed train takes you to Canterbury in about an hour. The cathedral is easy walking distance from the train station and an easy day trip to cover most of the town. Right now there is a quaint little Christmas market in the city Centre that’s fun to visit.

We were a bit unsure about buying tickets to enter, but trust me, it's totally worth it! 😊 It's not just the church you get to see; it's the entire surrounding area, including beautiful gardens. Inside, you'll find unique pieces of history displayed in the crypt and picturesque ruins of the former monastery. It took us about an hour and a half to explore everything fully. Plus, it's a UNESCO World Heritage site! 🌟🏛️

Lucky to have visited during a concert rehearsal and viewed the Cathedral with an epic orchestra & choir backing. Such a treat! Absolutely massive Cathedral full of history even for a non religious person as myself the architecture & stained glass are particular highlights. Tickets with gift aid donations are valid for a year of return visits.

Enjoyed the day roaming around Canterbury city center and Canterbury Cathedral. Although we had visited before, this time we went for our 1st boat trip around the canals. Really enjoyed the canal trip. Also enjoyed walking through the Free Libary and Art Gallery in the Oldest building. Enjoyed the Pubs and had a fab meal. Most people & staff were very friendly.

I beautiful old cathedral built in the Romanesque style. It is 1000 years old and absolutely amazing. The acoustics are incredible. A choir was singing and we could hear the songs even in the crypt. The don’t build them like this any more. The cathedral has great history (even a grisly murder) and famous people buried within. You approach the castle through the town of Canterbury, which has lots of shopping and food options. The town and cathedral draw a lot of traffic, so be prepared to wait in the weekends. We rented a car and made the drive ourselves and it wasn’t bad but if the thought of driving on the wrong side of the road isn’t appealing, there are many tour groups who go to Canterbury. The trip was fun and I would recommend a visit.
Shane Giddings — Google review
A very grand cathedral and easy access for anyone, dog friendly and you pay once and can go free for an entire year. You can buy tickets on entry. Under 18s are free to enter. There's grounds around the cathedral which are nice to have a walk around with it usually being fairly quiet. The streets around the cathedral are slightly busier but filled with cute shops and independent restaurants.

Canterbury Cathedral is an awe-inspiring historic masterpiece that truly takes your breath away with its remarkable architecture and profound sense of history. Stepping inside its ancient walls is an experience that transcends time, leaving you with an overwhelming sense of wonder. The cathedral's architecture is nothing short of amazing. Its soaring spires, intricate stained glass windows, and meticulously carved stone details are a testament to the skill and craftsmanship of the builders who created this sacred marvel. Every corner of the cathedral holds a piece of history, and the Gothic and Romanesque elements blend seamlessly to create a visually stunning masterpiece. Walking through the cathedral's hallowed halls and cloisters is an experience that words can hardly describe. The weight of centuries of history presses down on you, and you can't help but be moved by the sense of reverence and spirituality that permeates the air. It's a place where time seems to stand still, and you can't help but feel a profound connection to the past. I wholeheartedly recommend visiting Canterbury Cathedral to anyone who has the opportunity. It's not just a place of worship; it's a living testament to human achievement and spiritual devotion. Whether you're a history enthusiast, an architecture lover, or simply seeking a moment of reflection, Canterbury Cathedral is an absolute must-see. The feeling you experience when you walk through its old walls is truly unbelievable, and it's an experience that will stay with you long after you've left.

An absolutely beautiful cathedral riddled in such significant history! The staffers at the visitor center are so helpful and kind. Purchase a ticket there (you have to top up £5 for an audio guide) before you head in to the cathedral. The cathedral itself has plentiful stain glass windows and a direct link to how the England church was born. Do note that while strollers/buggies are allowed inside, there are still quite a number of stairs around which require you to carry your stroller/buggy up/down. The crypt was closed in the morning so we went for lunch nearby and came back just in time for it to be open. Photography isn’t allowed in the crypt.

Visited Canterbury Cathedral on a sunny day, January 16, 2024. Paid £17 for an adult ticket, opted for the full experience. Noticed ongoing restoration work, a testament to preservation efforts. The cathedral boasts extensive history; dedicated a few hours to explore, amidst the grey surroundings. The sound of someone playing the organs added a sublime touch, enhancing the overall experience.

Beautiful cathedral. It’s undergoing a lot of renovation work currently and there are some interesting updates on this around the building. It’s not a very serene space as there are lots of tourists around and about but it is still a vast and impressive space. Be warned lots of steps, it’s quite cold even in the summer and it is very expensive to get in
Jo Simpson — Google review
It was chilly but sunny weather. Beautiful cathedral, incredibly built and decorated. We had a great historical time and enjoyed. If you do gift aid when you buy the ticket, you can have 1year anytime visiting ticket. Inside out side it took around 2hours for us. It’s worth to pay and visit. Great 👍

Entry fee is £14 for an adult. Absolutely stunning Cathedral. You can almost feel the history! You can have a guided tour or an audio/ media tour. The guides really know their stuff! Or you can just wander on your own. Thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon here. Would highly recommend a visit.

Beautiful Cathedral! I was here for a ceremony so didn't get a chance to explore the building but the main sanctuary is beautiful. Quick note, there are no toilets in the Cathedral but they have a very clean washroom in separate building just 3 minutes from the entrance.
Lucy Todd — Google review
Such a stunning Cathedral. We spent around 3 hours inside, there is so much to see and admire. In the Crypt no photos or videos are allowed, and it's a silent prayerful space. One can take photos in the rest of the massive cathedral. There is only a small kiosk for coffee and tea on the property, but so many restaurants and Coffee shops are very close. The Cathedral is undergoing constant restoration and maintenance, parts of it outside were covered by scaffolding. There are some beautifully restored, clean walls where the workmen have already done their magic. The cathedral requires £18,000 per DAY to run, so donations are welcome.
Liesel Teversham — Google review
The cathedral is nice looking and the grounds are well maintained. Inside the cathedral the guides are not proactive and don't share information on the site unless prompted (a lot). The day of our visit we saw students graduating, surrounded by their very proud parents. The atmosphere was a little chaotic and but I am sure that this is not usually the case. Whilst viewing an exhibit, there was a fire alarm, I asked the guide if we should leave and where the muster point was. She didn't have an answer. I made the call to evacuate. The fire alarm stopped sounding, so we went back to touring the cathedral. About five minutes later, the alarm sounded again. At this point another of the cathedral's guides came running in and shouting "get out, get out!". The tourists began running. My children were very scared. We CALMLY walked out and when we (again) asked where the muster point was, was told to follow the crowd (!) Unbelievable. We waited until the alarm went off and then when the crowds started piling back in, we asked a guide if we could return. She looked around and said: "I guess so". Upon entering the cathedral, we saw the guide who incited the panic and reminded him that panic causes more accidents. He informed us that the way he behaved this was company protocol! The rest of the visit was spent viewing the cathedral and using Google as my guide. Definitely not worth the money. Particularly, as the staff are not trained in what to do and how to behave in emergencies.

Canterbury is a place where history and modern life coexist harmoniously. It’s a journey through time and a delightful destination for anyone seeking a taste of old-world charm in the UK. Beyond the cathedral, the city’s cobbled streets and medieval buildings create an enchanting atmosphere. The Canterbury Tales attraction brings Chaucer’s tales to life, and you can explore the medieval architecture of Westgate Towers. Finally, Canterbury’s friendly and welcoming atmosphere makes it an ideal destination for travelers seeking both history and contemporary experiences. Whether you’re wandering its ancient streets or enjoying a meal in one of its charming restaurants, Canterbury invites you to savor the best of the past and present. Punting tours in Canterbury often take you past several iconic landmarks, including the stunning Canterbury Cathedral, historic buildings, and beautiful gardens. Highly recommended place to visit!

Unmissable experience for first time visitors, it's no coincidence that this has been a site of pilgrimage for over a millennium. The cathedral with it's iconic mixture of centuries of building styles is worth the price of admission on its own, and the daily services, performances and special events make return trips well worth it. Note that an admission ticket is good for a full year.

Amazing Cathedral; spare minimum 2 hours to enjoy . It’s the second time We visited; both times We were accompanied by our dog. Yes; this is a Dog Friendly attraction just for that 5 Stars . We wanted to take the tours they have available but unfortunately they don’t allow dogs on the guided tours . We payed for the audio tour and it was really good and easy to navigate ; they have it available in few languages ( No Spanish ) . All in all very happy with the service and be able to visit an architectural wonder; while visiting Canterbury.

So much to see! The precincts and gardens should not be missed either. So much history to catch up with around the cathedral. Pride of place the story of Thomas Beckett. Also a must see is the Anthony Gormley in the crypt.

Really nice day out in Canterbury. The cathedral is not the most beautiful in the UK but very impressive with its Romanesque architecture. Plenty to see - took 1.5 hours without audio guide. £17 to get in and that’s an annual ticket which is good value. Kitch will worth a visit too for something for eat.

Our visit to Canterbury Cathedral was nothing short of glorious; every step within its hallowed halls felt like a blessing. Canterbury Cathedral is not just a building; it's a living testament to over 1,400 years of history, faith, and artistry. Stepping through its grand entrance is akin to stepping into a time machine, transporting you from the modern world to a realm steeped in medieval grandeur and spiritual significance. The sheer scale and intricate details of the cathedral are awe-inspiring. From the soaring Gothic arches and stained glass windows that shimmer with vibrant colors to the Romanesque crypt with its echoing silence, every corner whispers stories of the past. Wandering through the cloisters, with their tranquil gardens and peaceful atmosphere, provides a moment of respite and reflection. Canterbury Cathedral is a must-visit for anyone interested in history, architecture, or simply seeking a unique and uplifting experience. It's a place that resonates with the soul, leaving you with a sense of awe and wonder long after you leave its hallowed halls.

Canterbury Cathedral is a magnificent example of medieval architecture and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visitors are consistently impressed by its grandeur, intricate details, and spiritual ambiance. The cathedral's historical significance as the seat of the Archbishop of Canterbury and its connection to the Canterbury Tales add depth to the visitor experience. Whether you're interested in religious history, architecture, or simply appreciating awe-inspiring beauty, Canterbury Cathedral is a must-visit destination.

Historical cathedral with some good activities inside. Once you get inside you can see the herb garden, dark room, tombs of ancient people and so on. You also have a prayer room inside. You can spend some time peacefully.

An amazing piece of history and well worth a visit. It costs £17 to get in but this is valid for a whole year. I paid £5 to go on a guided tour which was 1.5 hours. Worth every penny. Our guide was Kirsten, a very knowledgeable and good humoured lady. I felt very engaged and learned a great deal. The cathedral is enormous and I could easily of spent the whole day there as there is so much to see. Thomas Becket,The Black Prince and the influence of William of Normandy and many others give this cathedral a long and very rich history. It is a working cathedral and its open for various services and also for private reflection and prayers.

Fabulous historic cathedral (see Thomas Becket) plus plenty of interesting memorials to curious people. Monument to Becket is striking. Stained glass and cloisters beautiful. Tea shop was closed by 4pm (so no comment and no comment-err? Such a British tradition to close doors to cafés when visitors are in greatest need) but the visitors’ shop was open and had good stuff.

I think the entrance fee can be off-putting to a few people. However, you can go back as many times as you like for a year, so it evens out. We live near Canterbury, so now have the year's pass. How many times do you want to visit the same place? I thought that, but each time we go, you see something different. Also, there are a number of very knowledgeable guides there. One of these, Michael, gave us a real insight of a specific time/part of the Cathedral. Very interesting.

Art gallery
This museum has a variety of different exhibitions, as well as library and workshop space. It is located in a renovated 19th-century building, and is popular with visitors in Canterbury.
We enjoyed waking around and seeing the different articles. The team were lovely and very helpful, plenty of things to see and read inside. If you’re in Canterbury then certainly do visit here as something to do. I look forward for the future of this museum.

Amazing layout, intertwining aspects of both museum and art galleries! I went with the family and there was a lot to enjoy, with activities for smaller children to partake in too. The 'Mirror Mirror' exhibition was great, and the staff scattered around places knew a lot about the pieces and items! First time visiting, but would definitely visit again some time when in Canterbury!

Fantastic place to visit if you're in the area! So good regardless of age I think - something for everyone. We visited as two adults for the gallery and history and had a great time. Entry was free, which is incredible for what you can do and see here. It was clear there were tons of activities for kids. There were lots of information points, a library and shop too. There was a lift inside. We particularly enjoyed the art gallery side of it, staff all friendly and approachable.

We loved it! It’s not too big - just tight for us. Lots of variation and interactive bits for kids. Great rainy day or indoor activity in Canterbury city centre. Pram friendly.

As with many local museums, this has an eclectic mixture of items including art and historical artifacts. It includes a room dedicated to local BAFTA award winners Peter Firmin and Oliver Postgate whose stop-motion TV creations include Bagpussnd the Clangers.

It's absolutely fabulous!!! Not even inside the museum, and you are struck by the gorgeous facade that reminds me of Shakespeare and that era. But once entered, you will discover a totally different word from what you've seen in Canterbury. The multitude and the variety of artefacts and exhibits will definitely amaze you. It's a place where the whole family can enjoy a great time and learn new information about gems, wildlife, paintings, etc. Definitely, it's worth visiting!

We visited this museum as a group of adults and a six year old child. We all enjoyed the experience including the child, she found something interesting and playful in every room. The building itself is worth admiring, the collection and displays are engaging. I highly recommend this museum to everyone but especially to families.

The pieces are very nice, but the colonialism on display can’t be overlooked. It is the only lens on display. Despite the variety, there is no additional perspective provided.

I went to this Museum & Library by chance and was amazed to see the collection. Don't know why its not famous. Located at a 2min distance from the Westgate Tower when you walk towards the High Street and Cathedral. The entry was free. A good library, couple of fantastic galleries, Museum rooms were there. Various paintings, swords, weapons, doll rooms, cute cartoon characters, animal and birds made of different stuff were really adorable. This place is very well maintained and staff is also nice. Must visit for kids and family too.

Brilliant museum, lots of exhibitions, I enjoyed the Smallfilms gallery that housed the actual puppets for Bagpuss, The Clangers, Noggin the Nog. It had all the drawings to make the shows and Ivor the Engine, and lots of other artifacts from Rupert and Basil Brush. As Bagpuss was filmed in a barn in Blean. It's a great museum for children lots of interactive things to do. Nice display of paintings, a few with the Cathedral in them. Free to enter and also houses the public library and tourist information centre. It also has a shop so you can own your own Clanger or Bagpuss. Accessible toilets are also available. It's situated right in the high street, near the cathedral and bus station, the Marlowe Theatre and shops and restaurants. Staff are very helpful and friendly. Would definitely visit again and would recommend it to anyone. Have visited before the pandemic and used to have a cafe, it would be nice to see that back again.

Wow what a fantastic building from the outside, and very interesting inside with lots of exhibits to look at we lucky enough to see a whole collection of children's tv from the late 60s and 70s from the original bagpuss and friends to the clangers, brilliant took us right back to our childhood.

Sights & Landmarks
St Augustine's Abbey was founded by St Augustine in 598 and is a historical landmark that is now ruins. The abbey once housed Anglo-Saxon kings and was later replaced with a Romanesque monastery. It was abandoned in the 16th century but can still be found as ruins outside of the city walls.
The ruins are really nice with the descriptions posted throughout the abby grounds. It is a lovely location for a picnic The inside tour/displays were very informative.

Another English Heritage site visited. This happens to be a world heritage site too. The audio guided tour is excellent.. it takes you thru the history of the place quite interestingly, even kids would luv listening to it like a story. Staff were very friendly and the place wasn’t crowded, so it was quite relaxing. Make sure to wear a cap and sunglasses on a sunny day.
Sheril Lathief — Google review
This is where the Christianity in England started! During King Ethelbert's time, in AD 597 Pope Gregory I, sent St Augustine to spread Christianity in England. His French Queen, who was already a Christian influenced the king to covert into Christianity. He gave a piece of land to St Augustine to build a monetary. There were monks copying manuscripts and learning and meditating and growing their own food. This is where many important people at the time were buried too. This includes some kings and bishops too. The church built here was originally dedicated to saints Peter and Paul. Only after many years it was dedicated to St Augustine. After Henry VIII destroyed Christian places of worship St Augustine's abbey was almost flattened to the ground. It's one entrance is still part of a private college. A small museum at the entrance displays many artifacts that spreads over centuries. A skeleton found In a led coffin is very interesting.
Kumudu Studds — Google review
The grounds are quite nice with lots of flat space for a picnic or to let the kids play. The ruins are a really cool piece of history and nice to walk around and explore as much as is allowed. Heritage does need to do a bit of upkeep as several spots on the wooden walkway were very soft and likely rotting to the point they will soon present a safety hazard to a guest.
Richard Terrio — Google review
This UNESCO world heritage site is mostly in ruins. It has a rich history that is brought to life with the audio tour. Entrance is £10 which includes the audio tour.
Cajetan Barretto — Google review
While this obviously cannot compare with the nearby cathedral, the abbey is steeped in history. I highly recommend taking the free audio guide as it provides a lot of insight into what once stood on these grounds. Do also take the short walk up the road to St Martin’s church while you are there - while only small, it is the oldest church in the U.K.
NSLondon — Google review
Part of a World Heritage site, consisting of three sites, including St Martin's Church and Canterbury Cathedral. Check the relevant websites for opening times. For the Abbey, only the weekends are open during February and March, for example. English Heritage members can get in free. Students can get a discount. The ruins are fairly extensive, but they are surrounded by grassy areas, slopes and low walls, with some large drops for the unwary. However, the ruins are picturesque and guided audio tours are available.
David Young — Google review
The visitor centre is really informative and there's information boards all around the site. A nice way to spend time away from Canterbury city centre. Plenty of open space, benches and areas to picnic.

St. Augustine's Abbey in Canterbury is a captivating historical site. The ticket price is slightly higher on peak days, but it's worth it for the enriching experience. Conveniently, you can purchase tickets on-site. Explore the majestic ruins, immerse yourself in history, and appreciate the awe-inspiring architecture of this must-visit attraction in Canterbury.

It's an impressive site part of the English Heritage that will show the visitors the vast history England has. The place is absolutely clean and very well maintained. It's not very far away from the Canterbury Cathedral, only about 15 minutes walking. Even though you can only see parts of the walls, you can easily determine the enormousness size of this old abbey. Audio guides are a useful tool and can provide great support. Staff is very polite and will give valuable information and support. Toilets are available too. Definitely worth visiting.

With the Canterbury Cathedral being such a large landmark, I dont think monuments like this Abbey get enough credit or attention. A massive part of the history of the town, it offers an insight to life after the Romans. Walking around the ruins is lovely and provides for an amazing day out. I recommend buying your tickets in advance to make use of the online discount. Don't forget students and over 65s can get a cheaper price too. Overall a lovely landmark with stunning views. A must visit if you are ever in the area. An amazing spot for a picnic.

Super little site tucked away from the city centre but worth seeking out. Little remains of the Abbey, which once held a key role. Its historical significance is explained well in the small exhibition centre supported also by a short videopresentation. The story of the decline of the monastic system is fascinating, and the range of artefacts on display well chosen.
Michael Lees — Google review
Under the care of English Heritage, this is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It's where English Christianity started as a result of the success of St. Augustine's mission. The ruins are at ground level for much of the site, after Henry VIII's dissolution of the monasteries. English Heritage has done a good job in unobtrusive interpretation of the buildings and there's an informative display of artifacts in the visitor centre.

Well done and thoroughly explained. Loads of research is available. . I find it absolutely crazy this Abbey was created in 587 AD. The stories this place tells Very quiet on the Thursday I went. A volunteer on the site who was cleaning asked me if I had any questions. I did and not only did this gentleman answer them it was almost like my own personal tour experience. He knew so much.

Definitely one of the best abbeys I've been to. The little museum is brilliant with loads of information and interesting things to look at. The ruins themselves are quite substantial and there are plenty of information boards and the site is well marked out making it easy to identify what part of the abbey you are in.

EH have presented this site really well with plenty of free information on site and an interesting inside display with something for everyone. Good clean facilities without too much tourist 'junk' A lovely visit despite the weather! The volunteer was good to chat to.

St Augustine's Abbey is one of many ruins of abbeys within England with much of this one being erased from time. However, with guided information and an impression of how it might have looked, you can imagine the structure that once stood on the grounds in the past.

The Canterbury Roman Museum is an archaeological attraction in the city of Canterbury in southeast England. It is home to a wide range of artifacts from the history of Roman Britain, including rare objects and the marketplace. The museum also features interactive exhibits and regularly hosts special events.
We only found this museum by the off chance of walking past it today while shopping around Canterbury! It's great. My 7 year old thoroughly enjoyed it. There was a dressing up section where you could wear costumes and helmets. They also had a coin making event on where you could stamp your own coin. Very educational. We spent about an hour here and will definitely be going to back again to have a proper read of things when we have more time.

Lovely place to visit where you can learn about the roman influences in Britain. Many vivid images and many reproductions will spark your imagination. You can dress up like a roman soldier and feel how heavy their equipment was. What's left from a roman bath is very well preserved and can be admired behind a thick glass. It's definitely worth visiting!

Tucked away in a side street, this is a must visit if you're in the area! We went as two adults (about £10pp). There were lots of different sections with information, and lots of bits that were interactive. Would be a great place for primary school aged kids I think! Super interesting & staff were delightful.

How had we not been here before? Lovely little museum, fun for kids, interactive, and right under your feet in the centre of Canterbury. Pram friendly and small gift shop.

It is an important museum for the history of Canterbury and the United Kingdom. It is not very big, but the sections showing the living spaces of the period are beautifully prepared. In the center of the city.

In the heart of historic Canterbury, the Canterbury Roman Museum is an unexpected treasure trove waiting to be discovered. Stepping into the museum feels like stepping back in time, as you enter the remains of a grand Roman townhouse, complete with its dazzling mosaic floor, one of the UK's only remaining in situ examples. The museum is intimately sized, allowing for a personalized exploration of Roman life in Britain. The exhibits are engaging and informative, bringing the past to life with artifacts, interactive displays, and even the preserved remains of a Roman under-floor heating system. Whether you're a history buff or simply curious about a bygone era, the Canterbury Roman Museum offers something for everyone. It's a perfect place for families, with child-friendly activities and a hands-on area where children can get up close to Roman objects. The museum's friendly staff are knowledgeable and passionate, always happy to answer questions and share their enthusiasm for Roman history. In short, the Canterbury Roman Museum is a delightful and educational experience. It's a must-visit for anyone interested in Roman Britain, offering a glimpse into the lives of the people who once walked these very streets.

Small but very informative and interesting museum. It was fascinating to see what Roman Canterbury was like and some remains still around. Found the mosaics and remains a bit hard to see though due to lighting and my height. Nice little gift shop too and bought a few bits.
Jo — Google review
The Mosaic Roman floor aside the museum was clearly aimed at the younger audience as witnessed by the school visit while we were there. As such it was a little pricey at £10 each.
Richard Porteous — Google review
Excellent narrations of the Roman settlement in Canterbury and archaeological explorations thereof, well-adapted for young guests, with both artifacts and a glimpse at uncovered ruins.
Jeanette Barott — Google review
A small museum that has lots of history in the basement including the main attraction a beautiful flower mosaic. Activities for children and lots of things for adults to look at too - Outfits to try on, shields and swords to brandish. Feel how heavy helmets were and try yourhand at magnetic mosaic designs. My 2nd visit last came in 2016 and more to see now.

Gardens
Westgate Gardens is an excellent place for a peaceful afternoon outing in Canterbury with beautiful views of the River Stour. The park offers a variety of recreational areas including riverside walks, scenic gardens, a play area for children and a picnic spot, so there's something for everyone to enjoy. Additionally, Westgate Gardens is home to a 200 year-old plane tree and a Victorian Tower House, both of which are interesting attractions in their own right.
I love this little gem in Canterbury. If you are visiting and come from the bus station head down towards Westgate towers at the very bottom of the high street, you can’t miss Westgate towers! It looks like a little castle at the end of Canterbury! From there cross the road and you will see the river in front of you, head left following the path through the gardens to see beautiful scenery, a special 200 year old Plane tree, the oldest in the country! And a beautiful riverside walk that takes you for miles (if my you want to go that far!) In spring/summer you can take a gondola ride along the river stour, this is a nice way of seeing the river, learning some history and an opportunity to take some lovely photos. For a nice little rest stop as you enter the park and turn left there is a lovely little tea shop that serves a range of drinks and snacks. I like coming here on my work breaks to just sit among the flowers and watch the river and wildlife in the sunshine.

These Gardens are located at a 5min walking distance from the Cantebury West Railway station, right next to the West Gate. Punting is also available there. Some birds, lovely houses around and option to do cycling. I can say its a nice Garden but not very special for which you one has to specially plan and go. If you have good time then definitely visit it.

The garden was absolutely stunning! When the spring arrives, the magnolias will bloom even better and enhance the atmosphere of the garden. There are beautiful ruins decorating the garden that enhanced the aesthetics for the place. And swans! How beautiful they were! It was so relaxing to sit on the bench and just observe the surroundings. Definitely the best place to unwind and relax!

It's beautiful garden with one small clean river aside with very clean water. Garden has amazing different colorful flowers, which are maintained very well. Best place for any kind of photoshoot as well. Must visit place if you haven't visited yet.

Stunning gardens and a lovely walk along the River Stour. The water is crystal clear. You can be taken on a punting trip along part of the river. There is also a tearoom that serves refreshments but not always open. Even during the hosepipe ban the gardens were so pretty.

Very pretty gardens and easy to find. The river scape and punting makes it even more beautiful. Perfectly walkable distance from the city centre. Perfect spots for walking, picnics and nice play area for the kids. Definitely a touristic spot!

Cute little garden on the banks of canal. You could relax here and also play with your friends and family. Look around for various species of trees from different countries. Many locations for group photos and selfies!! Please make sure you keep this garden clean and be respectful to nature around you!! It’s a beautiful garden worth a visit!

Such a beautiful and peaceful garden. Picture postcard perfect. It features a Baobabs (oriental) Plane tree that is thought to be the oldest in UK at 200 years old, with a trunk girth of nearly 9 metres. From this species the london planes were hybridised. Part of the Queens green canopy initiative, one of 70 ancient woodlands and trees as part of her Platinum Jubilee.

This beautiful garden near the city centre and fort is a true haven for nature lovers and families seeking a tranquil outing. With its lush greenery, family-friendly atmosphere, and the added bonus of being the best punting place, it offers an idyllic escape from the urban landscape. This place always have beautiful surprises especially when you come during summer months. Flowers ate grown along the bank and inside their gardens, making it a fairytale scene. You can join some boat tour so you can see the garden from another angle. But just walking along the river is such a joyful sight.

One of the most beautiful spots in all of canterbury. The perfect spot for a picnic or walking around. It is absolutely gorgeous all year round and has many photo spots. A great place for a morning run or just a casual day out, there are many beautiful historic scenes to see. There are several activities to be done ranging from tours to river punting on a small row boat like you're in Venice. A FREE must visit garden if you're ever in the area.

A charming haven that allows guests to straddle time and the embrace of nature, Westgate Gardens is tucked away in Canterbury's historic center. The calm and charming tapestry that the River Stour weaves as it meanders through abundant vegetation whispers stories from millennia ago. Everywhere you look, you can hear the symphony of nature's sounds, which inspires wandering minds and comforts tired souls. Westgate Gardens is a celebration of beauty and tranquility, whether you choose to wander along the meandering pathways or stop by the water's side. This beautiful retreat is a haven of calm and wonder for people seeking escape from the busy world outside, and it is proof of the timeless appeal of nature's magnificent embrace.

A historical place with a stream of water flowing between and flowers on the sides. There is a big park where we can sit and enjoy the view. If you are travelling from a far place, please keep in mind that this place is suitable for a day trip. Once you go around the westgate gardens, you can explore the city for the rest of the day.

We were not able to visit all the areas of the gardens but we had a wonderful time. It is Autumn and the colours of the trees were beautiful. It was so special to see the Baobabs Plane Tree which is approximately 200 years old. We will visit this garden over the various seasons to experience the changes.

Being a resident and tour guide it's the perfect place to sit and while away an hour or two, watching the punts on the river and people taking selfies in the Garden. All year the seasons create a different ambience! The flowers in the beds are refreshed on a monthly basis by the City Council and so often look very beautiful. In the snow it takes on a special charm.

Definitely worth a visit!!! Peaceful place for a walk and lovely flowers.. just sit and relax and enjoy the view and sound of the stream.

Smashing little gardens that are lovely in any season right next to the River Stour. Some incredible trees and pleasant walks. The lawns are nice but can get waterlogged if the river gets too high. A nice escape from the busy High Street which is only minutes away, and a stone's throw from the West Gate.

Market
The Goods Shed is a superb all-day restaurant that overlooks the daily market in Canterbury, Kent. The menu always changes to reflect what the local producers have to offer, ranging from fresh meats and cheeses to delicious pastries and breads baked in the restaurant’s own bakery. Whether you choose to dine inside or outside in the charming garden setting, you’ll be sure to enjoy an excellent meal at this wonderful eatery!
Had the best meal for my husbands birthday! Beautiful produce, loved having a seasonal menu and cocktails to go with too. Everything was so delicious and the staff were really friendly. Will definitely be returning!

Former goods shed now packed full of good produce. As well as fresh food (including greengrocers, butcher, fishmonger) there are some cafes, a bar and a restaurant. I ate at Gill's cafe which was fantastic. I had the salad, and it was so good, I came back the next day for another one. They have a choice of interesting salads and you get a big bowl for £8. Highly recommended!

Highly recommended! Combining ‘Farmers market’ and restaurant in one great building (repurposed railway shed) is a great idea! We had a fabulous lunch in the restaurant (perfectly cooked, good size portions, well presented and knowledgeable and attentive service) and then browsed the fresh food stalls on the way out (excellent fishmonger amongst others). Great atmosphere and setting.

A previous goods shed for Canterbury West station, which has been converted into a very interesting space: farmer's market, several small restaurants, wine shops, butcher, etc. We had a wonderful time there, great atmosphere and pretty well served in terms of public transport and parking. My new favourite spot in Canterbury.
Renato Santos — Google review
We went to this restaurant on a day trip to Canterbury. I had no idea where to go in town, but I was recommended the Goods Shed by an internet guide (I think it was TimeOut, but not 100% sure). I’m usually really suspicious about these recommendations, but decided to book it anyway. The thing is I had one of the best meals I’ve ever had in England. My partner and I were simply mesmerised. We weren’t that hungry, so we decided to share two starters and one main dish. The starters were delicious (pork terrine and kedgeree - kedgeree was better in my opinion, but my partner thought it was the pork terrine) and had a distinctive taste. The spices were simple, but tasteful. It felt homely, but also sophisticated at the same time. The highlight was the main dish we shared, we got the lamb leg. It was juicy, tender and I felt it was just melting in my mouth. The side was great too, it had an onion punch that increased the flavour of the vegetables. Finally, we decided to get a dessert as well. The hot chocolate pudding was intense in flavour, it had a bold taste of proper chocolate. Although it wasn’t too sweet, it’s best if shared with someone else. Finally, the service was great, I have no complaints. But the experience was enhanced by the atmosphere. Many restaurants these days have this tendency to put costumers too close to each other in cramped and overcrowded restaurants. At Goods Shed, we got a big table for two and we could have enough privacy not to hear other costumers conversations. The candle-lit environment was also super cosy and romantic. The restaurant is located inside a small market with fresh produce and good quality groceries. If I had more time, I would have definitely browsed more. Great experience!

Name a better foodie spot in Kent than Canterbury, and I’ll show you to its many creative, unique eateries. As a Canterbury local, I am indeed a little biased, but even as someone who regularly waxes lyrical about the many restaurants on my doorstep, I’ve raved a little more than usual when it comes to The Goods Shed. Footsteps from Canterbury West station, the restaurant now reopened and is already made a mark, be sure to ring ahead and book a table in this amazing space, The Goods Shed

The Goods Shed ois a great concept. Farmers market and restaurant in one building. A very nice building too. The food was good fare. We had the snacks, starter, main course and desert/cheese. All were tasty and well made. The service was a bit slow at times but they were busy with only 2 waiters. The atmosphere at lunchtime was bright and busy, surrounded by artisan food from the market it is all 'good food' orientated. I would go again.

Great and Independents Mini Shops...! Beautiful and fresh vegetables 🍎🍇🍊🥕🥔🍅🥦🥬 The superb quality of meat and fish. The fish and seafood 🦞🦐🦀 were surprisingly fresh!! Amazing choice of wines🍾 and cheeses 🧀 European deli. Fantastic Oliver oils. If you feel hungry😋 there's a restaurant and café inside the market. I would shop regularly in The Goods Shed if I was living in the area!! I love the people from Canterbury, they are amazingly friendly, helpful and polite🤗

Value for money is not great. Food quality is decent but over the top expensive. The waiting staff is not attentive, no check back. Wine list isdecnet yet a bit over the top on prices. Lamp leg was £26. A bit oily, and blunt. Thought it was well cooked. Portion was reasonably smaller than expected. As mentioned earlier; after snacks, starters and main the waiter never checked back throughout out 1:25min lunch meal. Have a snack and glass of wine and head elsewhere for food.

My favourite place to get fabulous fresh food. The butcher counter is absolutely amazing with extremely friendly and helpful staff. The fish counter is awesome. And all the way at the back, you can get some French cheese and charcuterie, and it's right next to Canterbury West Station

We had a wonderful lunch/afternoon at the Goods Shed. Ate a four course meal at the restaurant. Super fresh and locally sourced ingredients, lovely combinations, attentive service, wonderful atmosphere! Well worth the money and not overpriced at all for what you get. We will be back!

We made a trip to this farmers market not for the restaurant but more for the specialized sellers. It was smaller than expected but a good size nonetheless. There are cheese, butcher, wine, pastry and fresh food sellers. They also have 2 cafes should you need a coffee fix.

Our new favourite place for many reasons. Great food at Wild Goose, plus awesome beers and bread at Docker and a whole host of delicious produce from Murray Stores and other stalls.
Ade Rowswell — Google review
We love this place so much! We’re lucky to have live not too far from here so this is a real staple for a morning treat. We always pop to Gill’s for a coffee and grab a pastry from the bakery in the corner. Seriously their sausage rolls and CROISSANTS are next level. Personally we opt for the outdoor seats, partly so we can fuss over the dogs (this place is very dog friendly) and it can get very busy here especially on weekends so if you want a calmer sit down and chill then that’s for you. There’s always a real community and hustle feel to this place, full of friendly, passionate, hard working people.

Interesting concept of farm to plate and featuring a direct connection with local producers. These types of small boutique farmers markets are interesting and even make for a nice visit when you're waiting for your train in Canterbury West, but high price points make a lot of these fancy wrapped items somewhat less accesible.

Was visiting Canterbury for a weekend. This place looked interesting so decided to try it out. I think you are definitely better off booking as this was the first question we were asked. It was certainly had a good portion of tables taken. Our servers were very attentive and came to check on us throughout the meal. The food when it came tasted lovely and had good portion size. I do think price wise if you're a family with kids your bill would be significant. I did think they were more London like prices but to be fair everything everywhere has gone up so not surprising. I enjoyed my lunch and my desert and would recommend it

I’m still puzzled with the French name, Mexican food and Brazilian music some and menu items, but nonetheless, excellent experience! The lady who served us was really lovely. The decor and atmosphere of the restaurant is quirky and cozy. I ordered the beef burrito and it was delicious and filling. I also got the pecan, orange, chocolate cake for desert which was also really good. They did 25% off for students which is a great offer and also half price on frozen cocktails and beer when it was happy hour. The frozen pina colada was incredibly refreshing.

Consistent excellent food full of flavor, high quality ingredients in a super cosy setting with attentive service. It’s our favorite restaurant since moving to Canterbury 4 years ago. The happy hour from 5-6pm is excellent too. We had two courses (vegans catered for very nicely) frozen margaritas, wine by the glass and a lovely tequila for £70!

This is the best meal I’ve had in Canterbury and I understand why this restaurant has lasted so long. It’s one of the busiest restaurants too so you do have to book (it was packed even on a dreary February weekday ). The decor is colourful and wonderfully eccentric. Every member of the staff was warm and friendly despite the fact that they were very busy. I ordered a chicken fajita which came with generous, fresh portions of everything and deliciously cooked chicken. It’s worth noting that although the menu shows fajita for two that can also do single portions on request (I nearly didn’t have one at all because I don’t know this). Other members in the party all complemented the food. Overall it was excellent and I strongly recommend it.

If you're in Canterbury and want great food, go here! The staff were very friendly, the food was unbelievable, good size portions and well presented! I had one of the best burritos I've ever had there, try the spicy beef burrito! Not too spicy and the flavour was incredible! They also do great cocktails and the decor/vibe of the restaurant is brilliant!

One of my top two favorite restaurants in Canterbury. They give a great student discount so I figured that’s why it’s always full. Until I tried it for myself… a couple times 😁 and I’ll be back! Very focussed menu which I like - although how a Mexican restaurant got its French name remains a wonderful mystery! The salsas are varied and fresh though a bit too mild for my taste but easy enough to layer in with some hotter sauce. The meats come sizzling and the chips and tortillas perfectly fresh. Truly, taste wins here. The portions are generous so order slowly and I don’t think they really pack left overs nor do they do take aways. So this is a must dine-in option and really, if you’re in the city, a must do some times!
J J — Google review
Passed by this restaurant a few times, finally gave it a try. In fact every time i passed by, it was full of people. It kind of gave me confidence about the quality. Indeed they offer a wide variety of food, including vegetarian. However, a slight disappointment is that the food is in general too salty. I like their combination of fresh fruits in the dishes but if it was less salty (both ceviche and duck confit in my case), it'd be perfect. And i like the warm decor of the restaurant, it's very welcoming and good for both groups and quiet diners.

Fantastic as always, have been coming here since my 6th birthday realistically 2/3 times a year until covid. Food was better then ever, the lady that served us was delightful, smiling and a consistent balance of checking in on us and leaving us to our own devices. We started with the Large Nachos and Tacos. All wrapped up with chicken and steak sizzling fajitas with top ups a plenty. We will be back and thank you so much again 💙

Came in for dinner on Saturday night so it was busy but the service was still great, food arrived super quickly and everything was delicious. The pork belly fajitas to share were our favourite, the pork was sizzling hot and super tender. Would also recommend the pork belly enchiladas.

Amazing food, friendly staff and lovely atmosphere. Shared the chicken fajitas for main which come out sizzling and you are given the option to refill fillings and wraps, although we didn’t need to. Also, shared the chocolate fondue for dessert which came with churros, a variety of fruit and cream. My kind of food, would definitely come back!

Really good food and pleasant atmosphere. Delicious beef nachos and enchiladas. Not at all spicy so if you’re looking for that I’d ask for a spicy salsa. We asked for hot sauce and the server didn’t know what that meant. Despite not being spicy it was still really good for being this far from Mexico! Loved the homemade guacamole too.

For once I cant fault this place. Service, food and drinks all fantastic. Staff accommodating. Toilets clean. The prawn in garlic butter were perfection as was the pork belly tacos Amazing range of tequilas we opted for the £12 shot and it was worth it too. But i do have a couple of tweaks, give customers a finger bowl with the garlic prawns. Some spilt water on the table wasn't cleaned up also. I'd love to see crispy fish taco on the menu too but now I'm nit picking. All in all, amazing and will be back soon.

This restaurant is my favorite in Canterbury. As a Mexican living in UK This is the best authentic Latin food in Kent. I wish the ceviche came with a corn tostada (like the picture) I ask for the tostadas and filled it with ceviche guacamole 😋. The food is exquisite and the drinks are tasty. Must go restaurant.

Lovely restaurant with a great vibe. Food is mostly delicious and very well presented. My pulled pork enchiladas were very tasty, but the pork belly tacos were a little disappointing due to having an overpowering odd aftertaste. My main gripe with this place is that the price charged for what you get is extortionate. I’ve had as good or better Mexican food London for less than this place charges. Nice place, good food overall, but not worth 40 quid for some tacos and beer.

Some of the best Mexican food I’ve experienced. Went here after high recommendations and was not disappointed! Amazing variation on the type of fajita and brilliantly cooked meat! Can’t rate the Yucatan pork belly enough! Wow!

Lovely restaurant right next to Canterbury's Westgate. Lots of Mexican themed dishes to tantalise your palate, which are beautifully presented and delicious. We booked Marlowe’s before a night at the Marlowe theatre. When we walked in I was a little concerned as we were the only people in the restaurant however, it filled up quite quickly! We ordered the sirloin steak and oh my goodness!!!! It was the best steak we had tasted for a LONG time!!!! Was an incredible meal!! We only had a meal, potato gratin on the side (which my partner confirmed was the best one he had tried!) and a drink each (Stella and large white wine) but it came to £60 which we thought was very fair! We came from Maidstone area but have said we will make the return to Canterbury to bring family up as we enjoyed our meal that much! Our server was so polite, I didn’t catch her name but she was a young girl with mid length brown hair. Owner (I’m guessing) was very welcoming. We were so impressed!! My partner is still raving about his steak!

We popped into Marlowes today and managed to get a table for 2. We picked the breast of duck in a rich alcoholic cherry sauce as we gad seen it on someone's review. Oh my god, you normally have to go to the depths of the Dordogne in France to get a decent duck dish. But here in Marlowes Canterbury, the chef has perfected the dish to equal any French restaurant. Hats off to you sir, it was a great meal.

Has a dessert and a coffee (I Love a Dessert and a coffee off high street in the city) - and was welcomed with good spirit, as though I was spending on the full hog. I always appreciate when a sit down restaurant welcomes a pop in without prejudice. Loved the ambience and the menu looks good, so I’ll be back for sure!

Cute little place in the heart of very old city. Was very busy on a Thursday night, which I think is a good sign if you are not familiar with the place. As we wanted a light meal, unfortunately we didn't try anu of the main dishes but everything that came out to our fellow dinners looked great. We had tomato and basil soup with bread, garlic mushrooms and calamari. Everything was very tasty and served fairly quick, considering that place was full. Certainly recommend to try them out and I would come back next time I visit Canterbury.

Came down to celebrate our anniversary and walking through the town, this place looked really cozy and welcoming. We had a selection of starters between us and they were absolutely spot on. The warm beetroot salad was particularly gorgeous and the garlic bread was the softest bread I've ever eaten. My husband had the steak and he said it was cooked to perfection, although a little tough. I had the seabass and it melted in my mouth. Service was exceptional and attentive, not too slow and we weren't pestered throughout our meal. We sat outside and really enjoyed people watching and soaking up the atmosphere around us. Really reasonably priced. For 4 starters, 2 mains a cocktail and 2 drinks we spent £70

We recently visited Marlowe's during our recent stay in Canterbury. The food and service were exceptional at Marlowe's. We opted for the 3 course set menu which I would highly recommend. Nice to eat somewhere that's not a big chain. Highly recommended 😊

Popped in for lunch today. Had the sea bass and my husband had the chicken supreme. I would always choose sea bass and was not disappointed. It was cooked perfectly. The skin was lovely and crispy and veg was was just right. In the words of Arnie ' I'll be back'.

Pub
The Drapers Arms is a charming, traditional pub located in the heart of medieval Canterbury. It offers a variety of dishes including bottomless brunch and Sunday roasts which are sure to please the whole family. The pub also has a secret upstairs terrace perfect for enjoying the local scenes and atmosphere.
Really tasty food, thoroughly enjoyed it all! I had the sticky pig bao bun and egg fried rice, followed by the loaded cookie dough. Waiters were friendly too.

Really overpriced for what it is. I had a fried chicken bao bun (pictured) which was £8 for a single bun with one small piece of chicken, that was smothered in a sauce that tasted suspiciously similar to sriracha. The fries were £4 and were essentially just oven chips with a bit of seasoning on top. I had some chicken gyoza on the side which were nice but seemed like they were straight out of a packet. The staff were efficient but didn't even crack a smile. After paying £19 plus service charge, I left still hungry. I get that prices are rising everywhere at the moment, but this was really not up to scratch.

They do not specialize in coffee but you can get the best latte with a shot of baileys for more than €1 less than any of the coffee shops and they don’t serve theirs with Bailey’s 😮😎💕 served by the most handsome and accommodating Matt and Shea . Matt actually went next door to get me an extra large mug. Now that is service Check it out!!!! ••••such a great deal for a latte; went back again a second day. Izzy took great care of me. Made a wonderful latte and of course accompanied it with a shot of Baileys PRICE €2.70. Everywhere else without the Baileys €4. SERIOUSLY!

Must have picked a bad Wednesday afternoon at 5.30pm. Waited over 10 minutes to get served although the bar was quiet. Seems they enjoy watching people waiting to be served while sitting on a bar stool using a computer. Eventually came to serve me at £29.50 for 4 drinks. Think you need to up your game a bit. We do have a choice in Canterbury and those that live here deserve better. Sorry but we won't be back in a hurry.

Overall a decent bar! Their drinks menu isn’t very extensive but it does the job if you’re after a few causal drinks. Would recommend the bottomless brunch - food is ok - but great value for money!

Came to the drapers arms for my birthday in august for cocktails and I was AMAZED. Tried ordering a strawberry daiquiri however they had run out of strawberries so the lovely Izzy asked if I liked blackcurrant. Izzy made me the best drink I’ve ever had in my LIFE! Came back tonight and asked for the same and this time she put cherry and blackcurrant. Izzy, you are the best. I have never had anything remotely as amazing as what she makes!

Attended a Christmas quiz. The quiz master was comical and got the crowd involved. Hard questions but great fun. The food is lovely but pricey. Food came out fairly quick but dishes weren't cleared for a while.

I was pleasantly surprised how much I loved my lunch here. It’s really more of a pub-eatery: drinks with “ cutters”, than it is a restaurant. My Buddha Bowl and PBJ Bao, followed by a syringe shot ( seriously cute) of dark chocolate, made up a vegetarian lunch stop in the city we’ll return for again and again. Love how spacious and well spaced the seating is here too! Even though coffees aren’t on the menu ( drinks first here) they graciously severed me a cappuccino without a fuss.

Nice place with a good kids menu option. And they also give us an extra scoop to kids ice cream 🍨. I like the food and the price is good.

We had our works Xmas party in the top room last night. A sharing buffet for 40 people. The food was really tasty and the staff, including the managers were so helpful throughout the booking process and on the night. Will definitely be going back!

European restaurant
The Corner House is a popular restaurant in the city according to TripAdvisor, with82% of reviewers rating it as excellent and 13% as very good. The restaurant has an interesting interior sympathetically restored to provide relaxed and characterful surroundings, inspired by traditional Italian trattorias. The specials menu changes every month, but always offers pizza and pasta dishes.
This being my first time in Canterbury (and the UK in general), my friends and I wanted to get some authentic British food. This place was only a 5-minute walk from our hotel (Hilton) and so we gave it a try. The ambiance is amazing: they have lit candles all the way down, and a big, antique mirror in the back of the room that opens up the space while cleverly making the door to the bathroom entries more subtle. We did not see the rooms at all, but we can safely assume more of the same decor! Anyway, on to the food. They gave us some rich, brown bread with butter to share (only problem is that there wasn't enough!), and the Elderflower Spritzer was very delicious. The main courses were more expensive than we were expecting with a $$ rating on Maps, but we just ordered one plate for each pair of us, and our waitress took it all in very gracious stride. I forgot to take pictures because it smelled so good and I hadn't had a full meal in several hours but my friends got two Venison dishes and I shared a Pork Belly dish with my other friend. The pork belly came with mashed potatoes, warm cabbage salad, gravy, a kind of jam, and a meat fritter. The belly itself was extremely tender, and the extras were delicious. My friends testify that the Venison Suet Pudding was really good as well (as long as you don't hate mushrooms), and it also came with mash and cabbage, and probably additional components. Overall, I highly recommend. The waitress (I think her name was Clare) was very friendly, and dealt very kindly with the issue of a bill being split 3 ways with 2 of them being paid with cash! A varied menu, perfect for foodies, quality ingredients, and moody ambiance all added to an overall amazing experience. P.S. the attached photo shows a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence, a Good Food Guide recommendation, a 9.2/10 for Guest Review Awards by Booking.com, a Michelin Recommendation, and a 5-star AA award for a restaurant with rooms.

I booked the restaurant for 17 people and we all had a wonderful evening. Our guests were delighted. The food was exceptional, and the service was brilliant. Thanks must be given to Ops Manager Emma, she made the whole process pain free and easy. Often organising trips can be hard work - you made it a pleasure and were so flexible and amenable - Thank you. Please do pass on my thanks to the waiting staff and the chefs. I really highly recommend this restaurant.

We loved this restaurant with rooms above in a 500 year old Inn. Room was charming, staff super attentive and lovely people, the meal we ordered was one of the best I've had this year. You must try the haddock Scotch Egg!!! Only downside is a bit of traffic noise and low ceilings if you're tall.

Made a reservation for two for our anniversary and didn't regret it. We sat in a very nice corner, quiet and romantic and they even had flowers and cards for us (first time an establishment gave us cards!) We had the chicken supreme and the pork belly and it was very delicious! I don't usually finish my plate but this deserved it. We were quite full after, as the portion was quite big. The staff was very courteous, helpful and attentive. If you're looking for a romantic dinner, I would definitely recommend this place.

Great food! We came to the restaurant only and were very pleased that we did. A variety of options for starters, mains and dessert and we were not disappointed with our choices. Staff were friendly and made you feel at home.

Excellent service, fantastic quality food. Definitely one to look out for. We spent more than normal, not because it was expensive, but we wanted to try more dishes than normal. I personally had probably the best mojito I've had.

We wanted to get a good steak for lunch and on our first visit to Canterbury discovered the corner house. What a place, the staff were lovely and we enjoyed the best meal we’ve had in a long time. Hats off to the chef - the food was wonderful. Home made mushroom and tomato ketchup was a nice addition. The restaurant itself was lovely, quaint and well presented. An amazing experience overall, glad to have been and would most certainly go again. Excellent.

This restaurant needs to have 5 stars! All 3 courses were absolutely fantastic. We ate meat and fish, which were all cooked to perfection. For dessert I had an orange and almond sponge with honeycomb on top served with a blood orange sorbet, best thing I have ever tasted. The cocktails was delicious. Fantastic service with a chilled atmosphere. Cosy and romantic. The staff were really friendly and welcoming.

Wow what a 5 star experience we had here! Visited for the first time for a Valentine’s Day dinner and was not disappointed. Good service, really lovely interior, and food was perfect. We had the steak to share and it came perfectly medium rare with plenty of sides and sauce. Drinks were nice and everything is worth the prices. Will be coming back for any special occasion!

Excellent service, food and atmosphere. I do however not like candles (as they are incredibly bad for indoor air quality) they give off lots of cancer-causing chemicals into the air that enter the blood when breathed in. After my visit I suffered severe headaches and nausea for 2 days, may have been the wine or candles. I advise electric candles to improve customer safety and general comfort in the venue.

We dined here last night and this was an absolutely perfect meal from start to finish. We arrived on time for our reservation, when I had booked online I made a request for a corner table and was given a few different options. We settled on a table to the left of the bar at the front of the building away from the kitchen. The touch of the treacle bread and water as we sat was appreciated. It is hard to pick an outstanding dish from what we ordered as everything over delivered. Every element, of every dish was executed with skill. A couple of standout items would be - the Mushroom Ketchup, this was heaven. Please bottle and sell this, we would buy by the bucket load. The Duck main also deserves a mention as it was exceptional, beautifully cooked, well balanced dish. The service was friendly & efficient. They were always there when you needed them and left you to enjoy your meal when appropriate. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

We only came for dinner and didn’t stay but the food was out of this world. Staff were very helpful and attentive. We ordered an oyster each to start and they gave us recommendations on how to eat them. They were amazing and very fresh. Then we had the beef wellington for main (shared between 2 people). Run, don’t walk, to this restaurant for this dish! It’s the best wellington I’ve ever eaten. Absolutely fabulous food and service. Whole heartedly recommend.

First visit and definitely won't be the last!! Excellent food and first rate service from the wonderful Clare!! Both my wife and I had the flat iron steak which was cooked exactly to our requirements and was so flavoursome .... and the sticky date & ale pudding was worth the visit alone .... deeeeelishous!! Highly recommended!!

This restaurant was amazing from the moment you walked through the door. The decor was simplistic, which allowed the highlight, the food to do the talking!! Every course we had was incredible, and it was clear to see the passion the Chef had for his menu. The staff were polite, friendly, and very attentive. It's the first time my partner and i have dined here, but it most certainly won't be the last! Thank you for kicking out New Years Eve off to a fantastic start 😀.

Although The Corner House is on a main road, once you are inside, it is hardly noticeable. We were greeted by courteous staff who directed us to our table. The dining room was warm, considering the weather outside and the decor was neutral. The food was cooked perfectly for me, not too well done, generous portions and nicely presented. I will be coming back.

Excellent food, great service. Pulled pork croquette to start were fantastic. Monkfish main and cheeseplate to finish... wonderful. Accompanying wines were very good too. The location just off a roundabout is nothing to shout about, but once inside, you'd never know !

What an amazing meal! We had 18 people in our group and they took great care of us. The meal was perfect for each person and the talent of the chef of the team was displayed on each plate. We had a great service as well for our orders and drinks. We loved our roast dinner and would recommend this place to everyone! Thank you for a great experience.

A lovely place just outside the city walls. Food was lovely - venison suet pudding was exceptional as was the home made ice cream. We had an issue which was dealt with quickly and efficiently. Lovely wine and espresso martini. We will return again. Service was a touch stretched in places but very professional.

Amazing place... love the different spaces with different ambients from the open front of main restaurant to the more secluded garden room... they also. have beautiful outside area.... Compliments to the chef for an amazing new Venison starter they offered which wasn't on menu yet. And my flat iron steak cooked to absolute perfection as medium rare... really lovely place from a business lunch to meeting friends or that special romantic meal. Staff amazing too.. Loved this place and can't wait to go again.

Literally all the food was delicious! We had scotch egg, sea bass, pork belly, honey cake, and blood orange sorbet - and loved all of them! Highly recommend to anyone looking for a good meal in Canterbury

Great food. 3 course menu. Chicken liver parfait to start, then sea bass with orzo and a crab bisque, followed by lemon meringue posset. All delicious. Only criticism was that apart from soup there weren't any hot choices of starters which was fine for us but maybe wouldn't suit everyone. Great attentive (but not over attentive) service. We didn't stay overnight so can't comment on the rooms - we just went for lunch

Great dining experience! The ambiance was inviting, service prompt and friendly. The menu offered a variety of delicious dishes, and the flavours were outstanding. Portion sizes were just right, and the presentation was impressive. Overall, a delightful meal that left us satisfied. Will definitely be returning! Thanks to Matt and the team!

Came here for a family meal on Good Friday. The gentleman behind the bar was quite stony faced and not particularly warm and welcoming or attentive with service but we were late for our table so I wondered if this was why. Our waiter, however, more than made up for this with a very warm demeanor and prompt service. The gluten free menu was extensive. Children's menu was a little lacking in inspiration. Food was absolutely fabulous. We had cauliflower soup, harissa carrots and lamb shoulder with daphinoise potatoes to share. Just couldn't fault it at all. We eat out a lot and it is the first time in a really long time that we have genuinely enjoyed the quality of food on offer. Our waiter was fab from start to finish and very attentive. All other staff we encountered were warm and smiley. We don't live in the area but are really glad we were able to eat here and we would definitely come back and highly recommend.

Arrived for lunch just before opening time but were warmly welcomed. Set lunch menu is excellent - a great range to choose from and good value for money. Flat iron steak, pork belly and the marathon tart with brown bread ice cream are a must-try! Thank you for the best lunch we have had in a long time!

Only went here for lunch so can't speak for the rooms, but the food was absolutely stunning. The chicken suet was mind bendingly good, did not think kale could taste this good. Also love the historical timeline of the locations origins. Definitely worth the dent in my wallet.

Excellent food ,4 people had lamb and couldn't fault it, I myself had the beef and it was cooked perfectly to my request. All the sides were hot and flavoursome

We had a wonderful set lunch at the Cornerhouse. £33 for three courses of what I would suggest is near to one star Michelin quality food. It was my wife's birthday l, and were met with a card and a rendition of Happy birthday later in the meal. Usually, I find this gesture as being a bot over the top but it was performed by two waiters who served us impeccably throughout the meal. Reasonably priced wine that paired well with the dishes on offer. Highly recommended.
