Dundee

Dundee is a coastal city on the Firth of Tay estuary in eastern Scotland. Its regenerated waterfront has 2 nautical museums: RRS Discovery, Captain Scott’s Antarctic expedition ship, and 19th-century warship, HM Frigate Unicorn. North of the water, Verdant Works is a museum celebrating the city’s jute-manufacturing heritage. The McManus: Dundee’s Art Gallery & Museum displays art and archaeological finds.

The V&A Dundee is an award-winning new museum in Dundee, Scotland, dedicated to design. The museum has permanent displays of Scottish and international designs as well as exhibitions that change frequently. The architecture by internationally acclaimed Japanese architect Kengo Kuma is an amazing feat to behold.
We spent a wonderful few hours enjoying the tartan exhibition and the other displays. The cafe was very nice. We parked in the disabled section of Discovery parking , which is only 5 minutes walk away. My only criticism is the disabled toilet was not very clean.
Paul McCullock — Google review
Very impressive building and setting. Disappointed with exhibitions- huge internal space with only one corner upstairs designated for a design exhibition. Additional museum exhibitions by payment only. Lots of cafe and shop space though. Was really looking forward to something special, ended up leaving after 30 minutes. Come on V&A arts panel, should be doing better than this
Terence Devanney — Google review
I like museums and galleries but this one was a little disappointing. The building design is fantastic from the outside. Interior was very open and enormous. Almost too much. The interior seemed to be taken over by gift shops, children’s work areas and cafes. Only one small exhibit on the first level. There was a dancing exhibition on the top level that took up a lot of area also. The best area was the Scottish Design Gallery which was full of different Scottish designs. Parking was a chore. Street parking was for one hour max and cod over £3 and the machine wouldn’t hake my card after downloading the app. We went by some shops and got 2 hours for €2.60. Spent so much time driving around and trying to park that we didn’t get to see the ship Discovery.
Simon Robson — Google review
We went to an excellent exhibition on tartan. They had a great selection of exhibits, all informative and interesting labels. It wasn’t too crowded either. The temporary exhibition space is much larger than the permanent exhibition, so I wouldn’t recommend visiting unless the temporary exhibition is something you really want to see (though the permanent is still very interesting). The shop is also quite small. The restaurant is a canteen style service, with similar food to other museums/galleries (rolls, soups, baked goods, etc.). The gallery is a <5 mins walk from Dundee train station.
L C — Google review
Went to see the Tartan exhibition, the building is very easy to find from the station. The tartan exhibition itself is really brilliant, loads to discover and so much to see. There was no wait to get in. We easily spent well over two hours there. The cafe is very nice and serves some really nice food and snacks
Ricky hughes — Google review
Such an iconic landmark in the beautiful city of Dundee. The architecture is stunning and the setting on the banks of the river Tay perfect. The interior is cavernous and spectacular and the exhibits well worth a visit. So pleased I took the time to explore this attraction.
Mark Dyke — Google review
There is no doubt this is a unique building outside and inside. For all the space inside I just didn't think it offered much. Entrance is free and I would say it is just as well. Once inside there is only a shop on the ground floor and upstairs there is a cafe which was very busy. I did enjoy the tapestry exhibition which was on at the time of visit. That really is it, the McManus Art Gallery/Museum is far superior.
Allan MacIver — Google review
V&A itself is the living room of Dundee city. It's really beautiful and one of the landmark for the entire city. The inside structure is magnificent as well. Do spend some time in the cafe and grab a coffee. You will love it.
Jalal Ahmed — Google review
An amazing building in terms of architecture located in Dundee but I was very disappointed by the lack of exhibitions inside. Lots of free space inside the building. There was a museum upstairs which was fine but apart from that couldn't find anything interesting. V & A was not at all crowded when I visited and there is no need to book a ticket in advance. Thanks
Nikhil Reji Mathew — Google review
Fantastic building both inside and out. Not a lot of exhibits but well worth it. Make sure you go on the balcony outside for views of the Tay and Bridge. Follow up with a walk along the fabulous waterfront towards the port. While in Dundee, try to get hold of the Walking Trails of Public Art in Dundee. I've posted a couple of snaps of exhibits on the City Centre Trail.

Amazing day out at the V&A Dundee. What an experience. Spent five hours here. Started with coffee in the spotless restaurant. Spent over an hour in The Tartan exhibition which was brilliant. Lovely to see the original Doddie Weir portrait. Back to the restaurant for lunch then had a walk around the rest of the museum. It’s truly an amazing place. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Really great place, so many interesting installations. I was impressed with the design of this building - so much light and space. Just a shame we didn't have time to try coffee at the café with the lovely view.

This place is very beautiful. It is near 5 min walking distance from Primark in Dundee. The view is so cool. It is covered totally with the water and a beautiful river is also present . And inside this, it covers a lot of old things of king and queens and also lot of creative activities you can do.the entry cost is free here. And you can enjoy a lot. You can go any day.
jagrati Garg — Google review
Though modern architecture is not my cup of tea, this building seems to have checked all the right boxes for me. A stunning rock-like exterior reveals a cavern like interior with friendly wooden panels. The museum presents art and design in and from Scotland, while the “Dundee Tapestry” presents the city and its people in all their colourful glory. My personal favourite is Rennie Mackintosh’s Oak Tea-Room, a perfectly preserved space that immerses you to this artist’s visionary work. The cafe is great with friendly staff and a good choice of sweet and savoury treats. This museum is a good reason to visit Dundee.
Nikos Parastatidis — Google review
We enjoyed our visit at the V&A Dundee. We were really surprised that we stayed there for three hours. But there were very interesting presentations of ideas/products, history and a wide range of information about Scotland and Dundee. We also enjoyed the exhibition "design for our times" a lot. The different products and ideas behind it were smart and creative. We loved the whole experience.
Laura Bliss — Google review
First time visit. I thought this place was really cosy. It’s somewhere I would take a friend to just hang out and chat for the day. Micheal Clark exhibit was on. Lots of comments about too much space but I thought it was fine. I got here about 11am on a very wet Sunday and stayed to about 2hrs. I would definitely go back here. I’ve been to many places like this and the space is not that big in comparison. Loved the feel of the building and all the little gaps to see Dundee within. Terrace to go outside. Will be coming back here. Great place to visit and take children if you have any. Free entry. Pay only for the Micheal Clark exhibit. V&A was across from train station so that was very handy.
People KnowHow — Google review
Wonderful building and great atmosphere, Scottish design exhibitions are fascinating but wished there was more to see, the cafe is highly recommended with excellent food, great choice, fine views and pretty reasonable prices. Definitely worth a visit, free entry to the standard exhibits.
Nizam Hamid — Google review
Was a bit disappointed with this museum. Not enough to see & you had to pay for 2 of the displays inside. Didn’t take long to walk around at all. The art rooms for kids looks pretty good tho. The building itself is stunning.
Susanna A — Google review
Great museum well worth a visit. It's an amazing design structure to look at from all angles. Dundee is a beautiful city with lots of attractions to keep you entertained.

Great architecture outstanding outside and inside. Displays Great exhibitions outstanding. Great for artists 🎨 Designers. And a great cafe/restaurant, with good food. And views.
Ronald Penman — Google review
An iconic piece of 21C architecture nestling on the edge of the Tay and a very short walk from Dundee station. I thought the building was beautiful. There are free architectural tours every day (book online) which are well worth doing. I was a little disappointed by the interior and content. An awful lot of space is taken up by the shop restaurant and we'll just emptiness. If you didn't visit the large exhibition with an entrance fee (Tartan when I visited) I think you'd feel disappointed by the 2 free spaces and their contents. My 5 stars are for the building.
Angus Hamilton — Google review
Looks a bit like a lot of empty space when you first walk in but had some great exhibits. The Tartan exhibition was very well laid out and engaging. I recommend scanning the QR code which gives an audio guide to follow while looking around.
Luke Harding-White — Google review
Our greeter was absolutely fantastic with my 5yo daughter, and the Selkie trail is lots of fun for little kids. Didn't take the tour but looked really good. Cool building, especially loved the floor. Lots of art students poncing about. Recommend a visit for sure!

V&A Dundee, located in Dundee, Scotland, is a design museum that officially opened its doors on 15 September 2018. It holds the distinction of being Scotland’s first dedicated design museum and is also the first Victoria and Albert museum outside London. The architectural marvel, designed by the renowned Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, stands as a testament to creativity and innovation. Entry is totally free. Whether you’re an architecture enthusiast, design lover, or simply curious, V&A Dundee offers a captivating experience that celebrates the brilliance of Scottish creativity and global design achievements. Don’t miss the chance to explore this cultural gem!
Saurav Bandyopadhyay — Google review
I love the building! Absolute work of art!! And the water view, oh my God, breathe taking! But..I feel the museum needs more work of art inside of it, it felt like a biggggg space with few stuffs inside. I had fun regardless!
Olasubomi Akanni — Google review
First time here and impressed. Beautiful building, interesting exhibitions especially the photography exhibition and free admission. Well worth a visit
Marc Dobson — Google review
Great visit to Tartan Exhibition. Very impressive building, with long standing Scottish Design updated since my last visit. Tartan Exhibition was very informative about history and many instances in fashion. Fantastic facilities and even have hourly tours for free that start at 12.30.

Enjoyed our quick free visit. (We only had a short time in Dundee s didn't pay for the full museum experience). Situated on the waterfront. Surrounding area beautiful and quirky. There was a fashion show event on which was really interesting. Cafe and gifts shops.

This is a beautiful, Gothic-Revivalist style building housing a large art and local history collection. It organise events and activities on a regular basis, such as creative fun activities and informative behind-the-scenes tours of the Collections Unit.
I came across this amazing structure while I was going through the history of the Royal Family. This was initially a memorial dedicated to Prince Albert and was completed in the year 1867. The gallery is well maintained by the authorities and the toilet was super clean. You can see some very famous portraits of St Peter and paintings like Lamentation over Christ on the first floor. But my favourite section is 'the love letters to Dundee section', I loved that section. If you are in Dundee never forget to visit this gallery. The Royal History is amazing so is the old Albert memorial. You can also buy some classy souvenirs from the ground floor. Thanks
Nikhil Reji Mathew — Google review
This is an excellent and informative museum, detailing the history and lives of Dundee. The art gallery and and exhibits were really good and we spent a good few hours here. I would highly recommend it instead of the V&A, which is for some reason more high profile.
Stu Drake — Google review
Easily the best historical attraction in Dundee! (Infinitely better than V&A for sure). Kudos to the genious curator! It's a shame the review photos don't cover the many, many interesting pieces inside – a boat carved out of a single tree, a metal mask used to shame slanderers publicly, harpoons & bombs used to hunt whales, uretheral bougies, islamic prayer mats, reproduced old streets & shops, and paintings with mesmerising light & shade representation!! I've been to many museums around the world. This one is a hidden gem for sure. Oh, and it has a kids area too 😊
Muhammad Askar — Google review
Visited on a weekday and was relatively quiet. The reception staff were very helpful in telling us information on what can be found in the eight galleries and on what floor. It’s a beautiful building inside and out and contains some very interesting works of art and history of Tayside. Contains a cafeteria and small souvenir shop and entry is free.

Absolutely fabulous Museum so much to see and Free too, lovely cafe inside just had coffee but food coming out looked great. Well worth another visit

Free entry museum with wide range of permanent exhibitions and many temporary or touring exhibitions on show. From young to old, visitors or locals alike there is something for everyone to marvel at and enjoy. Wheelchair accessible ramps, with lifts to all floors and toilets. A stunning Gothic building, with fabulous range of items on show, right in the heart of Dundee.

McManus Galleries in the centre of Dundee is literally a hidden gem 💎 in Dundee. Two floors of display space inside a beautiful building. A fully accessible building giving access to the upper floors with a lift. Specialist exhibitions are presented throughout the year. The core display gives a fantastic insight into the early years and development of the people and the city of Dundee. The staff are welcoming and knowledgeable. There is a well stocked gift shop and a good cafe on site. If you visit Dundee or live in Dundee this really is a gem worth visiting.
Angus Spence — Google review
You could spend twenty minutes here or 5 hours. So much wonderful stuff here about Dundee. We stayed an hour and only managed downstairs and 2 art galleries. Really enjoyed it - the only thing I'd have liked more on is the weaving history. It is referenced a few times but I'd have liked more. Has a cafe and a small but really excellent shop.
Victoria Goody — Google review
Very impressed. First time back in over 50 years. For anyone visiting Dundee, this is an excellent way to learn and understand the history of Dundee and Tayside. And it's free!

Beautiful building surrounded by fantastic sculpture and statues, inside the facilities we're fantastic and clean and there is a nice little cafe and gift shop There is a selection of art and artifacts as well as interective sections and historical infomation, definately something for everyone here Thankyou for a wonderful day of learning

I didn't get a long walk around it, but what I did see was magnificent. The rooms flowed together, and there's something for everyone. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, and the admission is completely free (with optional donation points around the building) I'll definitely be going back soon for a proper wander 😊

An absolute treasure, how lucky Dundee is to have this museum, fascinating & beautiful exhibits. I was so thrilled to see this Rosetti painting, I've admired his art for many years but have never seen an original. Super helpful staff too. I wish I lived nearer.
Ann Roberts — Google review
Honestly, this is a brilliant gallery/museum there is so much to see. I spent the best part of three hours and I probably didn't do it justice. Whether it is the history of Dundee or Art you can take your pick. I visited on a Monday, I was on holiday and this was a great choice. The building itself is so impressive. Entrance is free but you can leave a donation. There is also a very good cafe and souvenir shop. It really is all you need in one.
Allan MacIver — Google review
A beautiful gothic building originally opened in 1867 as the Albert Institute as a memorial to Prince Albert. Eight galleries with collections of art and history. There's a fantastic collection of Neolithic, Bronze Age and Pictish items. Fortunately Dundee now seems to be proud of its past which clearly wasn't always the case after reading about the shocking destruction of the Royal Arch in the 1960's.
Nuts — Google review
Fantastic gallery and museum. Warm, friendly, informative welcome. The exhibits are beautifully displayed in a stunning building.
Carole Reed — Google review
What a beautiful building. Great range of exhibitions inside and a much better use of time than the V&A.

I have been here many times, and will be back many times in future as the McManus Galleries is a jewel in Dundee's crown and is an absolute credit to our city. I always make a point of taking friends who are visiting and havnt been here before as it gives real insight into Dundee's past and present. Free entry, lovely cafe and fantastic displays, a place that Dundee is rightly proud of.

Delightful visit, this beautiful museum has got to be a must see on any visit to Dundee. Super friendly informative and helpful staff are on hand to help in anyway they can. The cafe is a real treat too, the delicious fruit scone and Latte to be had in the cafe set us up for tackling the upper floors of what is a gem in Dundees crown. Thank you for a wonderful visit. The picture is our grandson tuckered out with all the pointing and Wowing.

Such a lovely relaxed museum that is a credit to Dundee. Our children love the exhibits (well, all except the scary gargoyle - if you can find it!) And the children's room is always a great way to spend a little extra time.

Dundee Law, located in the center of Dundee, is a well-known landmark with panoramic views of the city and River Tay. The peak can be climbed for wonderful views of surrounding areas. In windy conditions, it is best to hike up from lower levels.
It's unreal beautiful place and you can see most of Dundee from the top and Tay Bridge. Night time is fabulous with the lights of the city.

Beautiful area great for walking, running or cycling. Views are supreme. Quite steep in places would be awkward for pushchairs etc. Small amount of parking at the top. The Broughty Castle Museum is a historical and geographical museum located in Broughty Ferry, Scotland that tells the story of the area around it. It has exhibits on local history, wildlife, and art. The castle was built in 1490 to help defend Scotland's shores against the English navy and now functions as a museum about the surrounding area.
So this place was just amazing. The waters surrounding the area were swirling in all different directions making the most amazing patterns of water I have ever seen. It was one of those things you had to see in order to appreciate. It was amazing. Anyhoo the castle has no wheel chair user access. It does have an entrance uphill to it which is all cobbled and potentially dangerous for wheel chair users. The castle it's self is all tight spiral staircase that takes you to all of the interesting floors each with their own views. The top has a viewing area which is lovely.
William William — Google review
Great castle to visit with plenty of history and in great condition. Views are fantastic and the parking was adequate, although I went on a particularly quiet day in January.
Jay McGregor — Google review
Very beautiful castle, well kept with interesting exhibitions. The best is that it's FREE and only a donation is requested. Well worth a visit.
Paula Joubert — Google review
Called in after a walk along the front . The two girls who were on the desk were lovely and really knowledgeable about the area, and what they weren't sure about, they found out. The views from the top are amazing (once you've scaled the spiral staircase), and there's a few displays in the rooms on the other floors. Worth popping in.

What a combination. A castle with a beach. It's beautiful. The castle is not too big but its a nice place to visit. There is a museum as well. You can visit the castle and then pass a little time in the beach.

Broughty Castle Museum is inside the Broughty Castle. This place is quite near from Dundee City Centre. You can come here by 5 or 5a bus, also you can take a two way ticket which will cost you cheaper (one side is £2.35; both side is 4£) The beach is lovely joined at the corner with the Broughty Castle which also amazing. A very nice spot for a one day tour. Broughty Castle & Museum both are a great place to visit when in Dundee. Students coming from abroad must visit this place.

Small but very interesting and free castle. Beautiful views of the Tay estuary and beyond to the North sea. Inside the tower the museum has lots of items on display to do with the history of the castle over numerous levels.

Fascinating history going back to the 1400's. On a rocky outcrop at the mouth of the Tay so was an important fortress in its day. Acquired by the War Office in 1855 who intended to use it as a defence against possible attack from the Russians. Due to the threat from possible French invasion it was re-fortified in 1860 and then further altered due to the German threat in later years. Now a museum with many interesting artefacts on display manned by friendly, helpful staff. Worth climbing the spiral staircase in the tower for the fantastic views across the Tay.

The place to checkout metal detecting beach after a storm has moved the sand Old coins & musket balls Still searching for the lost gold treasure fleet that sunk in 1651 about a mile from the castle. Dog walkers have been picking up gold coins from the beach after storms. I have picked up handfuls of coins before switching on detector in a storm as the dry sand blows away leaving coins sitting on little pyramids of sand.

My wife and I visited this castle and museum on a Sunday. The castle and walls themselves are interesting and nice to look at. They offer great views over the firth of Tay and Brought Ferry beach. The cannons outside are pretty big and very cool The museum inside is not too bad. It is fairly small bit has some nice pieces with interesting history briefly explained. And of course it is free, which is fantastic. The only thing negative to say, the spiral staircase you have to use to get upstairs is narrow and very steep. It proved too much for my wife!! Would recommend, visit here and the beach together for an interesting and relaxing afternoon.

Been a few times here and my kids just love it. We visit nearly every year, loved the addition of the Easter egg hunt that was on when we went. just the right amount of things to see and do. We took our great neice who is 1 and she loved investigating everything. Would definitely recommend. Great cafe for a quick cuppy and snack after.

Really enjoyed this gem of an attraction. Interactive for kids of all ages and knowledgeable staff willing to help. A great way to spend a morning. Some fantastic live experiments, including a fire tornado. Didn't get to try the cage, but looked great. Will definitely visit again
Symon Lockhart — Google review
Great Science Centre, changed alot since last visit, as always there was many interactive activities for the kids and adults to join in with. There is something to see or do everywhere, there is limited numbers per slot so book before you go we turned up at 12:30 and had to go back at 3pm, wasn't a massive problem as we were also going to the Discovery point ship aswell. So just switch it around. If you are going to both there a car park at the science centre it's cheap about £5 for 5h this done us, you can walk to the ship and the town easy enough from here, as the parking for the ship isn't easy to get to is futher away from both. I would recommend anyone with kids up till 12y would enjoy the science centre altho younger is who it's been set up for between 4 and 10 I would say.

We had the BEST time visiting last week. It was so much fun and all 3 of my kids loved it. Even my daughter who is nearly 14 had a fantastic time. I would 100% recommend a visit, even if you've been before. I particularly enjoyed the section upstairs on surgery and body parts. The lady explaining about the xrays was very knowledgeable.

This has to be the best introduction to science you could give any kids. Incredibly well thought out interactive activities. A perfect place to take young children. Wonderful.
Michael Hood-Leeder — Google review
Great value for money experience for kids from 3-10. Great welcoming staff, big enough to keep them amused with plenty of variety with a focus on interactive education. This place is far better value than somewhere like the deep sea centre close to Edinburgh - it's half the price! I recommend to arrive at the allotted start time to maximize the use of your kids time

The most amazing place for a fun, learning experience. 3 adults and 1x 2yr old absolutely loved it. So much effort put in. Thank you!
jane taylor — Google review
Excellent time killer for the little ones. This place is not overly big but they pack enough in that little space so even after an hour it didn't feel like that for us. They literally open the doors at the time, so booking is preferred and I'd say essential. My 5yr old loved playing with most of downstairs which is hands on, the upstairs is all about medicine and instruments and he did like it, but not as much as downstairs. There's no price list AT ALL for the cafe, but reasonable, a coffee, flavoured water and a small packet of biscuits was just over £5, perfectly fine for a city spot I thought. I always ask myself, would I return soon? For me the answer would be no, maybe in another year when he's older, he did want to return the next day so the 5yr old gives it a thumbs up, I just wish there was more to do, another floor with hands on possibly
Scott Gilchrist — Google review
Better for little kids than teenagers, but still lots of interesting stuff. Friendly staff and events make the visit enjoyable. The cafe is small and has a limited menu, but the food and drinks we had were nice.

we went as a group of French exchange students and our Scottish hosts. It was a great venue where the language barrier was forgotten and the kids were able to interact easily among the science activities. It was great fun. I enjoyed a lovely americano coffee in the sunny cafe area, and we were all able to walk there from our parking spaces in the town. I would recommend it as an economical afternoon for all ages. Had we brought very young children there was plenty of safe play areas for them to enjoy.

Outstanding. Loads to do, staff are brilliant and very knowledgeable. The cafe is a 10/10 - lots to keep kids busy and can buy or bring food. Session tickets are reasonably priced too. Will definitely be back 👏🏼

We were stranded by cancelled trains and delayed buses to get home to inverness so we decided we might as well try to make some extra memories to kill time..... and what an absolutely incredible experience!! From the super helpful staff, right down to the very last details of bins in various sections as well as hand dryers and towels for the water play area! Everything has been thought of and even the accessibility is second to none! As a disabled mother with a 4 year old, we are so excited to come back all the way from inverness just to have more experience of this place! Top marks

The Science Centre is a fabulous place to visit. It is packed with stimulating hands- on activities to make kids ( and adults) wonder and think and learn whilst having fun. It is well- run, staffed by cheerful helpful people, and everywhere is very clean.

Absolutely amazing place to visit. The exhibits are all super interactive, work brilliantly and are well maintained. Stand out experience in Dundee. 10/10 no notes.

My son had a great time. The staff are all very friendly and more than willing to interact with the children. There’s lots to do and see. I would definitely recommend a visit.
Michelle Jamangile — Google review
Now you have to remember it's mainly for children. Grownups can take a part in some activities but you will get bored. Clean fun place. Toilets very clean. Food not too bad but very expensive. I'm suggesting to go and eat somewhere else. Parking not too expensive and it's close to the museum. Overall it's a fun place for children, only children.

Collinsons is a restaurant in the Broughty Ferry area that offers amazing seasonal food. The menu has been specially created to reflect the region's unique culinary traditions, and it is perfect for a intimate gathering with friends or family.
Always good food. We were greeted by welcoming staff. They attended to quickly and regularly. We chose the 3 course menu. I had pork belly to start, conditions duck for main and white chocolate croissant pudding for sweet. My friend had chicken, chorizo ballotine, then fillet of trout and joined me with the same sweet. It was all brilliant. Its one of the best restaurants in this area.
Vanessa Adams — Google review
We specified it was our anniversary and loved that they decorated the plate. All food hot, delicious and very pretty. The only alcohol offered was wine, no cocktails or spirits and the restaurant was full and with a buzzing atmosphere but it became quite warm inside.

Enjoyed a lovely meal and evening at Collinsons. The food was excellent and well presented. Staff were friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. Thank you for a great evening

This is a gem of a restaurant. It has appeared in the Michelin Guide several times, with good reason. We arrived almost 30 minutes early on a Friday evening, but were warmly welcomed and given a choice of tables. The staff are warm, friendly and welcoming. The tables are a good size, the chairs comfortable and the decor modern, warm and inviting. We both had the Scallops for starter. These were huge, well-presented and extremely tasty. I had the Red Deer, which was juicy and tender. My wife had the beef, which was wonderful. We finished with the Apricot Frangipani Tart & Chocolate Couldn't- both were wonderful. We had a fantastic meal, at a fair price. If there was one thing that could be improved, it would be the choice and quality of wines by the glass. If you are anywhere near Dundee, book here and treat yourselves to a wonderful meal!

3 course lunch is great value and it’s possibly the best meal I have had in the Tayside area. Wine list compact but definitely something for everyone. Well worth a visit.
Garry McComsky — Google review
Excellent tasting, well cooked and presented food in clean modern, comfortable surroundings. All our dishes were delicious so I'm not sure you can go wrong with your choices. Some excellent wines available at fair prices and served in appropriate stemware. Staff were friendly, efficient and eager to please. Truly enjoyed our meal there and will definitely return next time I'm in the Ferry.

Rather fine food, just as advertised ,in a stylish modern setting. The chief is producing some very tasty dishes. The Shetland scallops not to be missed. Wine selection good and not over priced. Service was efficient and friendly. I would certainly eat there again

Restaurant
Sol y Sombra is a Spanish-themed tapas bar that serves up some of the best food in Dundee. The menu has a heavy Spanish influence, and there are always different specials to try so you're never bored. The restaurant also has outdoor seating, free wifi, and reservations available. The waitstaff are attentive and happy to help with any questions you may have about the food or the restaurant itself.
Food was lovely, and the server was really nice as well. We had a female waitress (forgot to ask her name) who was really bubbly and (presumably) Spanish because she prounouced everything so authentically when she introduced our cold tapas. Had a good experience, but might ask for a vegetarian version next time as it was really a lot of meat!
Alice Summers — Google review
Nice authentic style tapas restaurant. No food menus were given, instead only asked if we have any dietary requirements. We were served 6 cold starters and 6 hot main dishes all of which were amazing. We shared some sangria which was amazing and got a dessert each. We will definitely come back here !
Joseph — Google review
Hadn't been for a while totally forgot how much food there is. Thoroughly enjoyed the food and wine. Great service as usual. Definitely recommend it.
Audrey Cant — Google review
Food was cooked well and the service was first class. Decor, music and seating arrangement created a nice relaxed atmosphere for a night out. Other two members of our party loved their evening, I did feel that the set menu only format took something away from the tapas experience. For me tapas is all about picking several small dishes of food from the menu and mixing and matching your favourites, enjoying a drink and then ordering some more if you still have room! The set menu format was almost like a tasting menu where you have little control over what food will be served that evening. Cant fault anything, service and food/drink was great and evening was thoroughly enjoyed. Just not convinced by set menu.

The Foodieboy — Google review
What an amazing experience! I've been meaning to go here for a while and finally I did yesterday and I was not disappointed at all. Both the food and service was excellent and the ambience was cute showing some pictures of Spanish culture (I was sat downstairs, not sure about upstairs). Since it was our first time, our server (an absolute star) explained the practice of tapas in the restaurant. We were completely open-minded and requested to surprise us. The starters (some roasted nuts and smashing olives) and the sangria we ordered kicked up our appetite. Both the cold and hot tapas were unmistakably delicious and the quantity, to my surprise (I am a foodie), was very much ample. My favourite in the cold tapas was the premium chorizo and coleslaw they served, and of course I can't praise the garlic bread enough coz it was just perfect (note: the basket they serve is meant to be for both hot and cold tapas, but we got excited and finished the bread in the first course itself. Unfortunately, they didn't have enough bread to serve us for the second time, so be mindful of this if you're a bread lover). The hot tapas when they served, my eyes were stuck on the sizzling prawns which was served in a claypot and it tasted out of the world. The only small thing I found quite faulty was the chicken in the skewer, they were dry and overcooked, so it was hard to eat. But the stew helped me to gobble them up. They had different desserts, but we were so stuffed, so didn't get the chance to taste them. But I will have this as an excuse to visit again. Overall, highly recommended in dundee and its not pricey at all.

Everything about this lovely tapas bar is charming and authentic. Every dish comes fresh to the table and there are plenty of variety whatever your tastes. We had vegetarians, pescatarians and meat eaters on our table yet I was impressed at the ease in which all were easily catered for with the tapas. The wines are an absolute joy! The red Rioja was particularly good and better than you will find elsewhere.

This is the second time we've been here and it absolutely lived up to expectations once more! If you like a set menu, love Spanish food, and enjoy quirky decor this is the place for you! It's reasonably priced too considering the quality of the ingredients! And I can totally recommend the Sangria! Highly recommend!

The restaurant Bridgeview Station boasts sumptuous modern European cuisine in a charming, old railway station. The views of the Tay estuary are simply stunning, and make this a great place to eat whether you're looking for fine dining or something more casual.
Gorgeous cake! Lovely setting and view. Friendly staff and great (and very reasonably priced) drinks and cakes. Confusion over the bill as we were told to pay at the till but the server didn't know which table we had sat at! Would recommend.

Restaurant is much bigger than it looks from the outside, and was very busy when we visited just after 10am. Bookings taken, so would probably be advisable to do so. Restaurant is really nice inside and has quite a relaxing feel to it. Staff are very smart, polite and efficient. Food tasted good, and was clearly good quality, but was also quite expensive, and for the price paid I was expecting to be wowed - but was not… it was good though. Coffee was really good here too. Will visit again one afternoon to try out the cakes which looked really tempting.

Amazing views, great food - I had the soup of the day which was cauliflower which was amazing which I had with some toasties… perfect. Will love to come again

Clean, tidy, good service, food looked and tasted great. One diner had a problem with the description vs the actual dish and the restaurant swapped the meal and apologised.

The cauliflower dish in a peanut sauce - best ever cauliflower dish I have had from a restaurant. The broccoli and chilli soup was delish 😋 😋 😋 😋 too.
Kris MacGregor — Google review
Great breakfast and some of the best scrambled eggs for a long time. I needed some water to clear my windscreen and they were happy to help. The view of the railway viaduct over the Tay is fantastic.
Chris Rush — Google review
The sandwiches are ENORMOUS!!! This is their mainstay. Yet to try the rest of the menu but looking forward to it. The prices at firs glance are expensive, £8 for a sandwich, but what a sandwich!!! Get a side of parmesan fries for £3.50 and you'll not need feeding for the rest of the day. The staff are some of the friendliest I have ever encountered and are so attentive if you have a question. I'd happily give Bridgeview 10 stars if I could.

Didn't eat a proper meal at this place however had coffee and a cake. Stunning little place, lovely view, service was decent and the staff friendly. If I stayed locally, it certainly would be on my radar as a regular spot to grab a lunch/coffee catch up with family and friends.

If you are in search of a delightful dining experience, look no further than the Bridgeview Station Restaurant. A charming haven that has consistently served up excellent cuisine, it has stolen my heart and won my palate on multiple visits. The food at Bridgeview Station Restaurant is nothing short of spectacular. Each dish is a testament to the meticulous attention to detail and the pursuit of culinary perfection. The club sandwich, an often-underrated staple, is elevated to a gastronomic delight here. Layered with the freshest ingredients and bursting with a symphony of flavours, it leaves you craving more. The soup is yet another standout dish. Rich, warming and wonderfully balanced, it's the kind of comfort food that soothes your soul on a chilly day. The chefs at Bridgeview Station Restaurant have truly mastered the art of crafting a memorable soup, and it's a must-try on every visit. As for beverages, the lager is light, refreshing, and the perfect companion to the delightful dishes. It's the kind of beer that you can savour on a sunny day on the patio, enjoying the beautiful views as you sip. What makes this restaurant even more special for me, is the memories it has helped create. My mother and I have been frequent patrons, and each visit to Bridgeview Station Restaurant is a cherished experience. From the warm welcome we receive, to the last satisfying bite, it's a restaurant that has earned a special place in our hearts. The ambience, the views, the friendly staff, the impeccable service, and most importantly, the exquisite food - all come together to create a dining experience that's truly unparalleled. Whether you're a local or just passing through, Bridgeview Station Restaurant is a destination not to be missed. In conclusion, if you're looking for a restaurant that combines an inviting atmosphere with delicious food and drink, then Bridgeview Station Restaurant should be your top choice. From personal experience, I wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant - it's a culinary journey that you won't regret embarking on.

The Gulistan House is Dundees oldest Indian restaurant and holds a record for being the first Indian restaurant to open in Dundee. As well as catering for curry fans, the venue offers more mild dishes made to order in their clay tandoori oven. With modern interior design combined with traditional Indian traditions, this wedding venue would be perfect for your big day.
Lovely large venue for your wedding, birthday, christening, Agata is lovely and will do her best to accommodate what you need....

Absolutely would not recommend. Worst meal we've ever had. After researching it had good reviews. Absolutely empty at 8.30 on a Saturday night. After speaking to locals they’ve said it’s gone downhill. The garlic nann they have been serving since 1947 is bright green and food not of decent quality.

Food was so good. Our server (the Irish girl) was friendly and polite. There wasn't lots to choose from but for us that's a bonus. No sitting for ages trying to choose simething. The pepper corn sauce was amazing!

Set in a small retail park this is a really nice place to have something to eat and drink. Couldn't fault any of the food served to our table. The servers were polite, prompt and well presented. The toilets were really clean and smelled great (top marks for the cleaner). Only one small niggle was you had to pay to park outside. Would of been better if this was refunded when you ordered something.

Came here for my friends 18th birthday meal and we were all not impressed. The food was lovely i’ll give them that but the service was appalling. One waitress even had the cheek to roll our eyes at us when we asked for tomato sauce. Whenever we asked for another drink it took about ten minutes to appear even if it was just a tap water. Over all the food was lovely but the service and the rude staff were horrible. Definitely will not be coming back!

We had the best steaks we have had for many years, and we have steak reasonably regularly in Australia and whenever we travel! The quality of the meat was good and they were cooked to perfection. I had mine blue, and my wife had hers medium rare, so the chef certainly knows what he is doing. The rest of the food was also great, good chips and onion rings. Service was prompt and friendly. We will be back for Steak Night!

Went today for a work lunch it was hands down the best chicken Caesar salad and side of chips ever. I have tried loads of places for this dish and was very happy. Others had Mac and cheese, prawn cocktail, hot salmon baguette etc.. brownies for dessert which they assured me was delish. Will be back.

Have eaten here on a few occasions since being in Dundee. The food is absolutely excellent and the atmosphere is nice too. The staff are very friendly, though some often look a little unapproachable, maybe due to being so busy. Would highly recommend them and fully intend to visit them again when I'm next in the city.

Booked a table for 6 for Xmas night out. Was told the table would only be available from 16.00 to 18.00 due to a party night after it. Company from various locations across scotland, arrived just after 16.00 to be told they may not be able to fulfill the booking due to staff breaks. Eventually managed to secure a main meal with the possibility of perhaps if we were lucky a quick pudding!!! Finishes our meal before 17.30 and were told that we could not get a desert. The brussel sprouts were as hard as the waitresses heart. Terrible experience and will not be back. This review only has one star as I had to press that to access the review process. Bah humbug to Porters

Service was really good, unfortunately didn't get server's name but he was fab. Food was very fairly priced. Would definitely return!

Went for the first time with a friend for lunch. I got the steak and chips and for dessert I had the sticky toffee and ginger pudding, I don't like ginger normally but thought I'd give it a go and I'm happy it wasn't overpowering with ginger and was just a hint of it. My friend got the the macaroni and chips and vanilla cheesecake and she liked them as well. The staff were very professional and friendly and very attentive. The price was on the higher end however the food matched the price. Will definitely be back

We went for a family birthday meal as a party of 13. They asked for a £10 deposit per person and asked for our orders before hand. This allowed them to provide excellent service and they even accommodated those that wanted a last minute pudding on the night! Super friendly staff, really approachable and attentive. Every single person was delighted with their meals and we all said it was the tastiest meals we’ve had. Don’t feel like you need to go with your “safe” meal choice because they’re amazing at absolutely everything on their menu! We all had an amazing night and will defo be back. Thank you!!
Shannon Murray — Google review
This is a lovely setting and staff are very friendly. Unfortunately our meal wasn't so good. The steak was overcooked and the mushrooms which were served with it were raw, the waitress agreed. The macaroni cheese was average but the kids chicken goujons went down very well. The cheesecake portion was huge and very tasty. Unfortunately the service was slow and another table who ordered after us were served well before us and the waitress was surprised we hadn't had our food so had to chase it up. Its a shame, reviews seemed positive and its a lovely looking place but we would not return.

Sunday afternoon for lunch. No reservation but table available for 5. Nothing wrong with service today, nothing wrong with food. All mains enjoyed and side's. Generous portions including children's meal. A Sunday carvary was on offer which other tables had however we went for the main menu happy to come back again. Signs say menu change of 12th April. Will be interested to see changes.

Nice, cosy, upbeat bar/restaurant down at The Quay. The staff are really nice and friendly here too. 2nd time coming here for food. This time it was for the boyfs birthday. I had the sea bass, boiled baby potatoes, Mediterranean veg and a tomato and chorizo sauce. Oh ya dancer!! The sauce is tasty, tasty. It's too bad they don't do that sauce as a wee side portion cause I'd dip my chips in it aaaaaaall day! Could not fault my meal. Could've eaten it again, actually. The boyf had the chilli burger, which came with chips and coleslaw. The burger looked really meaty. I was getting meat sweats looking at it! Chips were thick cut and cooked to perfection. Lovely and fluffy inside. Got a couple side portions of beer battered onion rings and a side portion of mac cheese just to taste. The onion rings were really crispy and the mac cheese, cheesy.
