Luxembourg City

The capital of Luxembourg is a compact, walkable city with plenty to see and do. It has a world-famous grand ducal palace, a medieval fortress, a gothic cathedral, a stunning historic quarter, and dozens of tiny cafes, bars, and restaurants all within walking distance of the main train station. The city also offers excellent museums and cultural attractions, including the Luxembourg City History Museum, the Grand Duke Jean Museum of Modern Art and the National Museum of History and Art.

The Bock Casemates are an extensive network of underground tunnels and galleries that were constructed in 1644 as a part of the Fortress of Luxembourg. The fortress was built on the Bock promontory, which was chosen for its strategic location offering natural protection. Over the centuries, it was reinforced and attacked multiple times, and at its peak time showcased numerous forts across three fortified rings.
really cool and beautiful historic sight! i’m not big into walking but i really loved climbing and seeing everything. unfortunately the tours are closed unless you visit in the summer but i would absolutely come back to see inside. highly recommend and a must see even if you’re spending a short time in luxembourg! 🏰
Regan Williams — Google review
It is a neat place to explore. If you have children, they will really enjoy the tunnels and it is pretty safe as well. The entrance says 45 minute time limit, but not sure how it is enforced. However, that much time is enough to see it all though. You don’t really need to buy tickets in advance if you go midweek.
Mike B — Google review
A great place to explore and lovely views. Would have liked some more information on certain parts but the leaflet was adequate. Nice to freely walk around at your leisure.
Rachael Flood — Google review
The Mother Nature give them advantages to have such a rocky place and situated exactly in the Center of the city. If you are a tourist and do not have a guide and plus you don’t speak French then it will be difficult to room around and find the spots you are looking for. The city doesn’t offer free internet or there are some spots but very low signal so you have to have your own internet. There are less signs showing ways how to access the Touristik spots , so make sure to really pre plan all the steps of your trip on your own
Ruzanna Konjoryan — Google review
Cool historic place to discover and stroll through on your own. Great views over Grund. Price seems very fair (8€). A few more signs and informative texts would have helped.
Mimo F. — Google review
Fun stop with lots of history! Sold out online for days, but tickets were available for an entrance in an hour. Busy, but they do a good job of keeping the casements not overly busy. Don't miss the side route near the exit that goes under the road. Spiral stairs carved into the rock to the left of the steps up to the exit. It is a lot of steps...you've been warned! Down and then back up.
Jeff — Google review
Very lovely and impressive views of the valley from the walls at the top and from the lookout points throughout. There is fascinating and multi layered history in the landmark, having served as a fortress for hundreds of years
Katherine Kelly — Google review
Very beautiful and unusual. Be sure to visit the casemates, but do not go down the spiral stone staircase if you have poor physical fitness 😁. When you joyfully reach its end deep below, you will understand that the way out goes along the same steep endless steps, only up 😄. It was a great adventure
Oksana Gresko — Google review
This is a World Heritage Site. Luxembourg's old quarters and fortifications. The city itself was founded in 963 and has played a significant role in European history throughout the centuries. We came during winter so weren't able to visit the tunnels but we were able to walk around the top parts and get some amazing views of the city. This is a must if you are in Luxembourg.
1girl 1passport — Google review
The view is indeed beautiful and also a good place to get your excellent photos as well. The paid city tour bus starts from this point. Also this will be always quite crowded as it is a famous place to get that balcony view.
Aparna K — Google review
Great to see such a cool piece of history and imagine the soldiers and others scurrying through the tunnels when there was activity to defend.
Jered Stills — Google review
Loved it, such a great view from there in all directions. Interesting to see what people did back then building the cellar of the castle in the mountain stone.
Steven VanSkyler — Google review
What an incredible site to see. The views from every spot were great. The history was awesome. It was a complete step back in time and I can't wait to go back again.
Jeff MIlls — Google review
The place can be reached easily from Luxembourg station, it will drop you to the exact location, where you can easily roam around by foot & explore, click pictures etc. It has an ancient setup with information which you can read and understand. I believe you will need approx 2 to 3 hours to cover upstairs, downstairs and around if you want to cover completely and not rush but relax. When we went there the weather was a bit foggy and cold plus we had to catch our bus for Saarland within 2 hours so we rushed and did not cover full location. But I still enjoyed. Since it was November month, there were Christmas market also which all families were enjoying. Overall beautiful place with no public transport cost so worth visiting.
Meera Upadhyay — Google review
It was very interesting, we spent maybe 1 hr visiting it. Highly recommended.
Matai-Kiss Ildiko — Google review
If you love to learn history and don’t like sunlight that much, this is the place for you. Pros: Great Views, and the permanent exhibition at the end of the walk is well-designed and quite enjoyable. Cons: frankly speaking, the walk itself is long and …not as interesting as I thought.
Pag C. — Google review
We really enjoyed it. Nice views. If you are in Luxembourg, you need to visit this place. I bought tickets online at a specific time.
Emilija Berlafa — Google review
I want to say that I live for 3 years in Luxembourg and only by mistake I discovered that we can visit the galleries.❤️🥰👏 The entrance is actually hidden underneath the little tower from Montee du Clausen (Casemates Memorial Point). The experience was quite unique. The galeries are layered (I think) on two levels. The views over the city are special and magnificent (although in my case it was raining 🌧), because the viewpoints are unique🏞🏤. I loved also the light 💡efects inside the casemates. They give a special (modern and old) touch to the visit. You can also see these light efects 🪩 from Grund during the night 🌌. The only thing that confused me a little bit was the fact that there were no signs ↗️(or a map) 🗺 to show the direction ➡️ of the visit, so I got a little bit lost 😆😁. There were galleries that i've seen twice. I estimate that, the duration of the visit 🕑 can vary between 30-45 minutes. For me, the casemates are special and unique. I would love to see them again without any hesitation. ❤️🥰🤩
Roxana to you — Google review
Very beautiful but quite slippery. There were a very long line but we didn’t queue at all as we bought tickets in advance, so I highly recommend to do so
Samira MAOILI — Google review
Great historical place. It's a must visit in Luxembourg. It is a huge underground complex built in 1644 and was used as a bomb shelter during WWII. It's huge and amazing. Lots of beautiful viewpoints. You need a minimum of an hour to explore the place. There is one section that is not mentioned in the booklet, it can be accessed through the stairs from the iron gate room. This section was really impressive and showed the depth of it. Going through each section and understanding the history behind it was fascinating. I recommend buying tickets in advance. Tickets can be bought at the ticket counter as well but they either sell out soon or you have to wait for your time slot. Another thing is it's a bit difficult to locate the entrance/ticket counter. Do carry a water bottle.

Catholic cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
The Notre Dame Cathedral in Luxembourg is a beautiful Gothic cathedral that was built between 1613 and 1621. It features ornate columns and stained glass from the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as Neo-Gothic confessionals. This cathedral is a must-see for visitors to Luxembourg City.
Very beautiful cathedral, we were there in Easter Sunday it was not crowded, unfortunately we didn’t manage to see any ceremony, but still very impressed by the art and sculptures and architecture. You can feel the positive energy and definitely the best place to pray, meditate and light a candle
Ruzanna Konjoryan — Google review
To begin with, the current Google map location is *wrong*.. The cathedral is really beautiful. We visited Luxembourg during New Year's and we were able to visit the mass as well. The gothic architecture and pretty indoors are just something to look at over and over. They also decorated the church for the occasion.
Piuli Basu Roy Chowdhury — Google review
This Gothic Style Cathedral is beautiful and one of the must visit destination in Luxembourg. It is known as one of the beautiful Buildings. It is free to enter and visit. It looks really nice and quiet in the inside . You can sense peace inside. The cathedral is best seen in the early morning hours, when the sun shines through the stained glass windows!
Simran Munot — Google review
The cathedral is just absolutely breathtaking and truest stunning. We took a walk around the grass and there was a lady playing the violin which was just beautiful. There are some statues and round the back are toilets which is 2 euros. Highly recommend to go and see.
Kathryn Mogan — Google review
What an absolutely gorgeous cathedral! It was calm and peaceful inside, the stained windows are beautiful. There is also a small staircase that leads to the crypt, wwhich is also worth visiting.
Awani Rawat — Google review
A free place to visit, a nice quite church with no queues and a nice gothic interior, very similar to the ones you can find around paris. I liked the art inside and the organ. It is a bit dark inside though.
Mike Aoun — Google review
A must visit because is one of the most beautiful buildings in Luxemburg. Gothic style cathedral , it is free to enter and visit … it looks really nice and quiet in the inside . You can feel a sense peace inside. The cathedral is best seen in the early morning hours, when the sun shines through the stained glass windows 🤍
Livia liv — Google review
Beautiful cathedral! An interesting mix between 17th century architecture and early 20th century architecture.
Aly Hassan — Google review
The position on Google seems wrong as the Cathedral is right behind "Le Ministère de la digitalisation" Follow the signage on the street instead of Google and you will find it. Opening schedule seems also wrong on Google as it's open on Sunday (from 10am to 7pm if I am correct) while Google mentioned otherwise. If you aim to visit the Crypt, please note that schedules are slightly different than the cathedral. Aim for mid day and you should be fine
Claire Duchenee — Google review
I cannot remember this church ever closing. Well, maybe when someone important gets married, baptized, or dies. I make it a point to stop by to light a candle for loved ones when I’m in the city. It’s certainly a place to visit if you want to cool down from the heat and don’t want to sit at a cafe feeling more warm and several euros poorer. The cathedral is clean, quiet, free, and beautiful IMO even though I do not know a lot about architecture medieval, modern, or what have you.
M B — Google review
Beautiful and no doubt worth visiting! This cathedral is beautiful and breathtaking! The beautiful stained glass windows are so pretty! The art paintings are phenomenal and the architecture is amazing!!
Bon Bon’s Beauty — Google review
A very beautiful and peaceful place. The tainted glass windows are wonderful, and the overall architecture is well worth the visit. A small detail: they have chairs instead of benches. The organ looks amazing, it must be awesome to hear it play.
Ana Vica — Google review
A peaceful and beautiful structure with many stained glass windows and large and tall inside. Take note that the location is different to where Google Maps is pointing this. It is near the City Museum up the hill. A good place to take a break whilst exploring and free entry too!
Vin Chenzo — Google review
The cathedral is big but not decorated as much as similar ones in other cities. The altar is simple and the glazed painted windows attracts your eye. You cannot tour yourself when worship takes place and even when it doesn't, you should be extra careful not to disturb prayers. Do not forget to check the crypt.

The Grand Ducal Palace is a large and beautiful building located in the city of Luxembourg. The palace was built in the 16th century and currently serves as the official residence of the Grand Duke of Luxembourg. In addition to its beauty, the palace is also important because it is where the Grand Duke holds his official meetings.
Grand ducal tourists attraction in city center of Luxembourg. Good place to sit for a coffee nearby and observe change of guards.
Bilal Mirza — Google review
Restored during the years, can be visited during summer but tickets sale really fast.
Nikos Gkekas — Google review
We were in Luxembourg during New Year's Day and the palace was closed hence we couldn't go inside but from the outside, the palace looked fantastic and well maintained. Right in the heart of Luxembourg City, this place reeks of history and tradition. We would love to go back in summer and visit.
Piuli Basu Roy Chowdhury — Google review
Amazing place to visit. I would personally prefer the summer time.
Arghya Basak — Google review
Amaizing castle located in the city centre, near other toursit attractions. Easily accessible with plenty of shops all around for an enjoyable walk. The palace itself is very big and it was guarded. The biggest downside is that you cannot get a fine picture of the entire castle because of the buildings surrounding it. There are not enough space around it to catch a picture from a distance. Overall this is still a must if you’re visiting luxembourg.
Jad Badran — Google review
Beautiful and informative walking tour. Very elegantly built and maintained, it was a glimpse in to the history of Luxembourg and the way they lived. (Not anymore, they live in a bigger castle now). The art, relics and grand interiors are fascinating. Enjoyed the tour completely with a wonderful tour guide. No cameras allowed inside.
Anjana Menon — Google review
Nice big building in the center of Luxembourg's old quarter. If you are lucky or you want to wait, u can see the ceremony of guards changing shift from time to time. Other than that im not sure theres o lot of thing to do there..
Reyner Gunawan — Google review
My boyfriend and I came to Luxembourg on a day trip, on a random Wednesday in June. We were just walking past the palace, observing the marching guards (which was cool in itself), when all of a sudden, they opened the doors and we were able to see the Duke (?) arrive and leave the palace in his car. Talk about being in the right place at the right time! Loved being able to witness something like this! Note: we did not visit the palace, as it was not open to visitors this time of year; we only walked in front of it

I enjoyed watching the change of the guards 💂‍♂️ Tour groups nearby

It's a very nice building with specific architecture. There are guided tours that last 1.15h.

The palace is open for visiting only for a few weeks during the summer. Since I went during winter we could not enter inside. It's architecturally stunning. Picturesque. The chocolate house nearby serves amazing desserts!

Amazing city, fantastic history, friendly people and amazing architecture. Very clean and extremely beautiful. So much to see and the beauty of the place left me speechless.

Beautiful building. The place can be visited until September. Unfortunately we were there in October.

Beautiful place, very nice but closes too early. Right in the centre of the city. The old town is in walking distance. There aren't many places to visit in Luxembourg but this place and area around it is something you don't want to miss. The paid parking is just 2 mins away. There is a high street in about 5 mins walk which is decorated beautifully.
Faisal Imdad — Google review
About 750 mts from the Hamilius Tram stop, you will find Palais Grand Ducal. It is the official residence and office of the Grand Duke of Luxembourg. We walked by and admired its lovely architecture. But one can explore the palace from the inside or even go for a guided tour. Check out their official website for tour schedules, opening times etc.
Padmini M S — Google review
Very beautiful city. Most of the tourist spots could b reached by foot.

Pretty palace in the center of town, the official residence of the Grand Duke and family. Nice architecture and also the opportunity to watch the marching guard outside. Every half an hour to so they change the guard in a simple ceremony which is nice to watch. The palace is in the center of town so definitely worth a stop by when exploring Luxembourg…

Museums
The Luxembourg City History Museum is a cultural center located in the heart of Luxembourg City, telling the history of the city through permanent and temporary exhibitions. The museum also has an enormous glass elevator that takes visitors on a 6-story vertical tour of the city's history.
Great historical overview of the city, was not expecting to be in as long as we were! Just the right level of information without making it too dull. Really liked the temporary exhibition on the 5th floor (100 best posters). It's a great insight into the past (and not too distant past). The huge lift is also cool! Well worth the visit.
Chris Naylor — Google review
Interesting historical museum of the city of Luxembourg with a free entrance. Much more interesting to visit than Musee Drai Eechelen (a museum dedicated purely to the history of the fortress, located on the other side of the river). Also it's very convenient that it's usually open till 8pm. On the content: I loved the multiple models of the city at different moments in history. However, as a big fan of history, I wish there was more of a historical narrative presented here. Also the navigation around the museum could have been marked a bit better.
Marcin Tatjewski — Google review
Very nicely designed museum. With every step, you can find something surprising there. You can learn about Luxembourg-ville itself, European union and see some art as well. There are descriptions of almost everything in French, German and English! ♡ It's easily accessible for people with disabilities, there are toilets and lockers.
Reosia Nakatsumi — Google review
I went here because the tour guide said this was his favorite museum in Luxembourg, but in my personal opinion the Museum of History and Art is much better. The layout is a bit confusing and I didn't find the exhibits to be particularly inspiring. Still giving it 4 stars because the staff was very friendly, and it's not a bad way to spend a rainy afternoon in Luxembourg.
M.M Marie — Google review
I highly recommend visiting the museum. It has multiple expositions, some of them are permanent, some other are temporary. The one about the history of Luxembourg is fairly interesting and shows the country 's heritage in an original and colourful manner. The museum is located in a beautiful spot in the city center, with a breath-taking view on the valley. Worth visiting for tourists, but also just for common Luxembourgish or expatriés🇱🇺🦊
Beatrice Senese — Google review
Multi level museum with each floor covering a different part of Luxemburg's history or culture. Extremely well designed, the interior is as interesting as its content, not that the content should be ignored! Well designed exhibits pull you round easily, with plenty of information and context. Didn't really know what to expect, but was very pleased to have visited. Highly recommended.
William Moffatt — Google review
Beautiful museum. The exhibition is larger than what I expected. It was very interesting to learn more about Luxembourg city. We spent about 3 hours in total and could have spent more time there.
Caro SD — Google review
Very pleasantly surprised by this museum 🏤 that has permanent exhibitions 🖌📽 but also temporary ones. The visit costs 5 euros for Adults and is free for children and students. When i've been there, the temporary exhibitions included the history of food 🥣🍜🍽🧃 and posters exhibition advertising events ✈️🚲🗼🎭💃from the current and last century. The exhibitions are mostly related to Luxembourg history or specifics, which is very nice thing to see.🏡 The huge elevator (the size of a room) and the panoramic terrace are two extra points to this museum, next to the VR room where you can virtually see parts of the old Luxembourg. 🥰👏👍😊 The exhibitions are exposed on 5 floors, but the time required ⏳️ to complete them is not too long (I estimate maximum 1h30m).
Roxana to you — Google review
Amazingly organized museum: you go to the lowest floor where the history of Luxembourg starts (around 15th century) and as you come up - you see the development. Real time machine 😅
Tamara Prysykar — Google review
Wonderful museum. Top recommendation if you're looking for somewhere to start in understanding the history of this tiny country. The curation is interactive with a great mix of material heritage, art, technology and clever use of the architecture itself. The views from the museum are great too.
Amano Miura — Google review
Luxembourg is a tiny country but its has a definite strength for growth. I didn’t plan to visit the museum, just walked by and got in but it kept me around 2 hours going around. It’s so good to know Luxembourg from a little village gradually growing up in the central Europe yet still managed to keep it its independence and glamour. The museum has cool touches of technology, history, design and souvenirs that you will definitely love it. I got free admission to the museum as I am a student in EU. However, if I have to pay for it, I think it’s still worth the price. This is one of my favorite museum on earth. An additional point is that on the 5th (?) floor, there is a gallery of posters through the year and you can vote for the one you prefer when I came there last January, which is really awesome. Maybe when you come, there will be something interesting to see.
Nhung Chu — Google review
I've visited this museum several times over the years. It's a modern museum about the history of the city and gives a good snapshot for someone who hasn't visited before. There's a lot to read, which I like, but it might not be suitable for visitors with small children for this reason. It's close to the centre of town and there are lots of cafés and bars nearby, which is convenient. There are lockers inside to store coats and bags, which the staff do make you use- they won't allow you to take in any handbags or even small backpacks. There are a lot of places within the exhibitions to sit if you need to rest, the lighting isn't too bright and the temperature is cool.
Leah O'Cuinneagain — Google review
Way bigger than in looks in the pictures, schedule your time appropriately (i failed in doing so 😅 ) Lots of artifacts and a great presentation of the history of Luxembourg. I knew nothing about the city (or the country to be honest) and after the visit i feel like a scholar 🧐 And as a bonus they have a HUGE elevator that you should absolutely ride and a really nice terrace with a great view! Free lockers available (required for your backpack) and nice staff. Almost every text also in english.
Angel — Google review
Don't let the understated exterior and entrance put you off, this is an excellent museum, and great place to spend a couple of hours. Whilst the space is not huge, it is arranged over a number of floors, with all of the exhibit areas very carefully and tastefully put together. The entrance fee is only 5 euros. The three lower levels consist of a permanent History of Luxembourg exhibition, showing the evolution of the city through the ages, and the numerous complex factors that have played a part in shaping the Luxembourg of the day. The upper three levels house a temporary exhibition, with a captivating look at "associations" (guilds, clubs, other tribes of people) on our visit.
Gary Collier — Google review
Well organised and informative museum. It covers all the aspects (economical, political, demographic etc) of the history of this fortress from the start until nowadays. You need more than 2 hours to tour yourself around in a comfortable pace and reading the information. The is also a panoramic terrace, which provides nice views.
Nikos Gkekas — Google review
I really enjoyed my visit at the Luxembourg City Museum, which is free for students under 26 and includes another local gallery also. The main exhibit offers a comprehensive history of Luxembourg and spans multiple floors, all accessible by both lifts and stairs. The centrepiece of the Museum is a gorgeous panoramic lift, and the terrace offers a lovely view out over the city.

Excellent museum experience. I've been to a handful of museums over the years, but this by far surpasses all. This establishment has a story to tell about the city, and it tells it very well, without boring audience with irrelevant minutiae. Level five where posters are exhibited is an added bonus!

A truly beautiful dinner. I had the pasta sampler menu. Amazing service and excellent food. Here are just a few of the dishes.
Polly Schulz — Google review
We were there on a busy Saturday night and went for the tasting menu. The ambience is nice, very elegant but it doesn't feel overly formal. We were welcomed by a young member of staff and brought to the main dining room upstairs. The menu has some a la carte proposals and two tasting menu (a pasta-based one, and a more "generic" set menu) and it was very difficult for us to pick one of the two. Everything sounded delicious. We went for the set menu and enjoyed every little bit of it, but the highlight was definitely the open ravioli with scallop. Unfortunately we did not get to taste the main and the dessert, as we had a little emergency and needed to leave earlier than expected. The staff were very nice, helpful and understanding and even called us a cab to go home. Final touch: they did not bill the whole price of the menu, but a "pro-rata" version of it. They didn't have to, but they did, and we left with a good feeling, knowing that people at Mosconi care about their customers. We will definitely be back, but this time we'll try to savour the whole meal :-)
Aniello Falco — Google review
One of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had, if not the best. Had a fantastic full sensory experience with my team over what seemed like 4 main courses and an additional 5+ smaller courses interspersed in between. The dishes all offered unique flavors and sensations that left us satisfied. For what we experienced it was also a great value for the price. Be sure to set aside 4 hours though for the full experience.

Luxembourg s top restaurant on ratings and reviews and has held a Michelin star rating for many years. Chef Mosconi has created an absolute wonderful menu using some truly sensational flavours using the freshest ingredients. It is very popular and advance booking is highly recommended. The service staff were attentive but respectful and had great knowledge of the menu. Lots of vegetarian options too. Do not be put off by the small portion sizes as the quality is A1. Entrance is on the ground floor and restaurant is on the first floor which is accessible by lift or stairs. When we left, each one of us were given a small bag of Cantucci biscuits made on site, unexpected and a nice touch. Will return again.

A high-end French and Luxembourg-style restaurant that allows diners to enjoy elegant panoramas of the city from its ground-level Restaurant, or dine in the more spacious upstairs terrace. The menu is relatively compact, but every dish is exquisitely prepared with attention to detail.
Wonderful experience! Every single bite was an explosion of flavors in your mouth! We cannot recommend this restaurant enough. We had a great time and will definitely return. You will not be disappointed! We dressed up because it was our anniversary but casual attire was the norm!Amazing place !

I never go this restaurant. The desert was served over 1 hour later after I ate main dish. Mini pastries were supposed to be offered after desert however I did not eat it because I could not wait another 1 hour! I asked several times about my desert but server looked so busy and my desert served too late. I think the restaurant had better not accept many reservation that is beyond their capacity. I was disappointing I could not receive appropriate service and I could not eat all even though I spent a lot of money. Anyway, I never go this restaurant I do not recommend.
K Ma. — Google review
Consider carefully on this one. Food is interesting and well-prepared but perhaps not up to the level of the price. I'd consider 4 stars if the service was more consistent - there should not be hour+ gaps in the service at this tier of restaurant. And their refusal to give us bottles of water larger than 50cl just because we were a party of 2 seems like pure profiteering (indeed, we paid over 30€ for water alone).

Atmosphere was really nice when we visited this place, the service was so and so, the food taste and plating was good. 4/5, overall experience was good, the atmosphere was really nice and it was sunny that day. Check the menu and prices before, it is bit high.

I am writing this review while i am waiting for the last dish. In 10 minutes, we will hit the 4 hour mark. For a 5(ish) course meal, for 2 people. Gotta find something to do or i will fall asleep. The staff was quite friendly and the meal was good, not great. I would have happily paid for this 40 euros less per person. Apart from all this, the cocktail we took before diner was very nice, so was the view. I'm not quite sure i understand why this restaurant is so well-known in Luxembourg, though.

Great great location in Clausen, with a superb view from the bar's terrace. Classy ambience, great service and delicious food. Tip: go there during the "Resto Days" campaign, for the same food quality with discounted prices.

We were invited here for dinner by a colleague of my husband's. We arrived at the opening hour and departed later than the closing hour. Don't go here expecting fast food. It's a multi course experience with plenty of time between each to reflect upon what you just ate and what's coming next. We had the discovery menu, with three of us getting the veal, three the squab and one vegetarian dinner. Everything was artfully arranged and presented and it was almost a shame to mess it up with silverware (even though it's real silver).

This afternoon I went to lunch at my husband's invitation at Le Sud Restaurant. A very refined atmosphere, with a very generous lunch menu, for the price they charge and the attention they give us. A lover of gastronomic photography, I always wanted to know what, it was like behind the scenes. Suddenly I left Le Sud for a Netflix series. I was lucky enough to see the new menus in person and to see how everything was processed until it ended up on social media. Thank you Le Sud for two exceptional experiences

Outstanding restaurant. Went for lunch, all the food was very fresh and of the highest quality. The dishes had different textures, and got free homemade bread for starters and dessert bites at the end. The wine was also exceptional. Did not have to wait long at all for food, which is impressive considering how labour intensive the dishes are. Waiters are very professional, and explained the dishes in English (it's not the native language, and the fancy french names are hard to translate, so this was pretty cool) Really worth the price, and will be back if I'm in the area.

Upmarket venue, suited for functions such as weddings and the like, but small enough for two. Set menu is the order of the day. Licensed and situated next to the old brewery. It is situated on the 3rd floor with great views. The decor is trendy and elegant. Thd staff was very helpful. It's wheelchair friendly with a lift access to all floors.

Fantastic service and amazing food. Couldn't of asked for a better way to finish our trip
Sunil Mistry — Google review
I dined here 8 years ago, and was so disappointed this time. The food was variable, a terrible amuse bouche which was so salty, to a fabulous risotto. There were only 2 other tables with diners, so the atmosphere was awful, but the main reason for marking a 2 was the service: I asked for table water and was made to feel very uncomfortable by the waiter (environment grounds), and was provided a tiny jug which had to refilled 4 times during the dinner. The first 'jug' of water contained 2 flies, no apology offered. When presented with 2 dishes, no explanation of what the dishes were (I am an English speaker, but can understand some French). This place really needs to stop being so pretentious, and focus on the customer.

Located in the upper part of Luxembourg City, Restaurant Clairefontaine is a highly acclaimed French dining establishment that offers an elegant, gourmet four-course lunch menu for just 57 euros. Special occasions and celebratory dinners are the perfect choice here, as the restaurant has a range of fresh and locally sourced dishes, such as its signature chicken baked with truffle under the skin.
If you pay a restaurant a visit on a Monday evening and it is full of customers, that stands for quality. Here it is excellence in service, wine and food, the latter for the eye and for the belly. We had a perfect - starry - experience.

A sleek operation from the moment we walked through the doors. The service was exceptional and the waiters tended to our every need. The lunch tasting menu was excellent value at €65 each. Each dish was a work of art, the chef and team were phenomenal. I loved every mouthful. My favourite was the pate/terrine.

Absolutely delicious dining experience! All the dishes are unique and really imaginative on decoration and textures. The scallops, prawns and foie gras on the starters are amazing. We had the monk fish and hen for main course which were equally superb. The wine expert picked up some superb pairings for the dishes. Highly recommend

Best service restaurant and best quality in, dare I say, Europe. We ordered set lunch at €59 each. They have 2 options for lunch, €59 and €110. The €59 one consists of 4 course, entree, starter, main course and dessert. We were quite full, and left very happy.

For me Clairefontaine is always something new.🤩 It is made to pamper the taste senses and to offer an exquisite experience every time. 👏👍We prefer this restaurant as a gift for our birthday, when we want to be alone and try sophisticated experiences. About the experience: if you are not used to this kind of cuisine and you expect to eat a lot and to have ordinary menus, this place is not for you. 😁 It's specifics in french cuisine and fine dining makes the restaurant more like a Pearl of the restaurants.💎 Here you can taste foods that are not served everyday and everywhere, with preparation techniques that showcase the mastery of cooking. Foods like soufle, foiegras, lobster, deer, saint jacques, quails, ricotta fumee, etc different gells, purees, sauces, caviar like textures this is what you should expect from this restaurant.🍽 For dinner, the entire experience took everytime around 3-4 hours. 🕚 We always had an a mouse bouche at the begining, and the desserts tree at the end. The waiters are always very kind, polite and very attentive to our needs. The sommelier was always carefull about wine choices🍷 (I like sweet wines). His recommendations were a perfect match for my plates. Every time we left the restaurant feeling full, because the purpose of the 4 hours experience is to enjoy and taste the food entirely and slowly. 👏🥰❤️ It will always be a pleasure to come back. The menu is changed once per season, and you can find It online on their website. It's good to have a look before going, to know what to expect or what to order. 😊

Nice central location for a restaurant that is well known in Luxembourg. The staff is excellent and very nice. The food is good but to my taste nothing more than this. It was a set menu for 36 dinner participants so that perhaps the menu a la carte may evolve differently 😀. Again, the staff is top! 🙌

As expected, the quality and the service were outstanding. They have an impressive wine list which features local wines that you cannot find in stores as well as international classics. Fine dining restaurant
La Cristallerie Restaurant Gastronomique is a Michelin-starred address in Luxembourg City that offers a beautiful path of upcoming news and still future projects to be unveiled. The restaurant has three restaurants with three atmospheres: one with original art nouveau stained glass, gilded timbers, chandeliers and snow-white tablecloths; another with contemporary steel and glass design; and the last with traditional grandeur set within richly carved woodwork.
If there was an unusual concept, this is it! The menu has just three options: 4, 6, or 8 courses. Then the chef whips up an amazing dinner just for you. You can give ideas and inform of any dietary restrictions of course. but one thing for sure: you will be surprised. The sommelier takes the same approach, and he serves wine that he thinks would be best suited to your dinner. The wine changes every course. Truly an amazing experience, deserving of a Michelin star!
Maxim Kalyuzhny — Google review
Is this still a Michelin-star restaurant? While service was good, food quality was not and more importantly, execution was flawed. I even had to send back my grilled octopus, because it was too hard. How can such a restaurantake such a mistake? More importantly, 2h after we returned home, my wife started to feel sick. She got food poisoning! Forget the price tag, but how embarrassing is that? … and how embarrassing is the lack of attention. I called the day after to flag what happened and I was told the restaurant manager or the chef would call back. Guess what, after more than 1 week nobody reached out. 1 star is generous!

We had our wedding luncheon at la cristallerie - absolutely top notch service! From the food, wine, dessert, professional staff, ambiance, and general service from sales and all --- we absolutely love this place and we can't wait to celebrate our anniversary there next year :D
Ramee Deeb — Google review
Regrettably, one of the most forgettable "Michelin Star" meals I've ever had. Food was okay, but not noteworthy or unique. The sommelier was abrupt and rude, by any standard, pouring average glasses of wine without presentation or explanation. This shortfall was made even more absurd by the outrageous pricing for the wine, charging 25-30euros per glass (when each bottle could have easily been purchased for this price). All told, far too expensive for what it is, and honestly probably not worthy of a star. There are certainly better options in this city; just go somewhere else.
Steve Boyd — Google review
We had an excellent time last evening at La Cristallerie. We were the first guests to arrive at the restaurant and we greet with the sweetest smiles and an offer to rake our coats. We were shown immediately to our tables. In fact, through out the evening, we enjoyed impeccable service from the team. Better in fact than some of the Michelin star restaurants that my friends and I visited over the years. Yes, even one of the 3 starred restaurants in France. Service was attentive throughout whilst not being intrusive whilst the pace between courses was perfect. We never had to wait long and we never felt rushed. Even as the restaurant filled, I noticed that the staff kept up the service. In fact, there was even time for a little light banter with each guest without being loud. We enjoyed the meal tremendously. From the amuse bouche to the desserts. It is always risky when chefs attempt an East-meets-West fusion cuisine. But in this case, the chef pulled it off masterfully. Clear there was a playful medley of Japanese, French influence that blended in complete, exquisite harmony. Every dish was artfully assembled, showing the attention to details. We had the wine pairing, and were not disappointed. The sommelier who chose the wines also did a fabulous job. Great job to the team at La Cristallerie. I had an amazing time.

Excellent food served here, getting inspiration from different cuisines (French cuisine as a base and some Southeast Asia/Japan subtle touches in the menu we got) and very well executed. The place is beautiful, and the staff very kind and helpful.

In the heart of the city, what Luxembourgers call the "salon" of the capital, this star-restaurant offers attentive service and refinement on the plates. It is expensive, but worth it, and if you choose the wine-marriage with the menu, you are well served. We will be back.
Christian Kmiotek — Google review
Excellent dinner. Very creative and tasty. Obviously expensive but expected from this caliber of restaurant.
Sage Naka — Google review
We have visited several Michelin-star restaurants worldwide, some of them with 3 Michelin stars and we had never paid 25€ before for one small cup of wine. We asked for the options available for one cup of wine. The waiter brings just one bottle "I have this", he does not suggests other options, he doesn't explain anything about the wine and then serves it and leaves. He never mentioned its price. The cup was really small, it was more a tasting-cup than a standard cup of wine. We consider it a way to take advantage at the expense of the customer. We took the most expensive tasting menu: the food was fine, but not amazing. The service was correct and nice but not knowledgeable enough about their products or to answer our questions. It was a nice experience, in a beautiful place, but not memorable and definitely not worth repeating. For a Michelin star restaurant we expected better.

Really nice restaurant! We have been pretty nice treated for the staff, and the food was excellent! They also did a great birthday surprise with birthday song and candle 😍 We’ve ordered pitta with olives and chicken salad for starter, lamb chops and seafood variety (delicious!) for main course and churros (amazing) and bougatsa and tiramissu Oreo for dessert. They also have alcohol free drinks 👏🏻🤰🏻 Amazing experience, we do recommend!

Good food, great cocktails, amazing service and dog friendly restaurant! Trio dip, halloumi and spinach feta pastries were out of the world! They also gave a bowl of water for our dog. There was some confusion in our order which they more than compensated us for by giving us full discount on the drinks.

Amazing staff. Great service. Better and more choices for vegetarians. The ambience of this restaurant can serve a person with any need be it a couple's date, a catch up with friends, literally anything. Also, the food... Delicious... I strongly do not recommend this restaurant. I had the most ridiculous Greek moussaka in my life at this restaurant. The idea when one goes to a restaurant is to feel full, not to pay for something and then leave hungry. The weight of the moussaka was no more than 250 g, as I slightly exaggerate the weight. Unbelievable fraud and disrespect to customers. I warmly invite the owner to go to work all morning and come for lunch for a funny moussaka of the mini-tuna type to see if he will be able to get enough!!!! The size of the moussaka bowl was about 10-12 cm long, 6-7 cm wide, 3-4 cm deep! You can imagine the amount of food that can be collected in such a vessel. Given the price of the products, there were probably no products for more than 2-3 euros, for restaurant delivery prices. At a price of 22 euros for a single meal, which is typical for a family meal in Greece, I think there should be some sense in the desire to make money off the client's back. Extremely disappointed, will never recommend it to my friends.

I visit this place every now and then, and had an amazing experience as always today too. Special props to Xavier C who was extremely kind and thoughtful regarding my son. He immediately spotted his soother on the ground, and washed it with hot water. He also improved an extremely comfortable area for a diaper change, and we are touched by this thoughtfulness. Also the food as always was absolutely delicious. Definitely coming back.
