Loquat, or "biwa" in Japanese, is a small, orange fruit known for its thick flesh. While it's delicious right off the branch, it can also be made into juice and soap. The "Biwa Biwa Club" hosts a tie-dyeing event close to the highway in Minami-Boso. Large amounts of loquat leaves are boiled to make an orange dye. Visitors can make their own custom handkerchiefs by wrapping them in rubber bands and dipping them in the dye! A twist here or there can make some pretty cool patterns. I figured out how to make them my first time doing tie-dye and I want to go back and try some more.
